Connecting HDMI Cable to HD BOX

I am connecting the HDMI Cable to the HD Box and it does not provide a picture.  I does flash a DUI code when it tries to connect via the cable.  Does this mean I have to upgrade my service to HDTV for the box to work as an HDTV Box and the HDMI cable will then produce the signal I need for the rest of the devices?

No. It means that your TV and the STB have a failure ot communicate.  Search for "HDMI Handshake" and you will find multiple posts regarding this problem with the Motorola boxes.  The boxes (HD or SD) always have all the video / audio outputs enabled at all times.  Also, ALL of Verizon's tiers include some HD.  Supposedly there will be a firmware update at some time in the future to fix this known isuue (it is less prevelent than it was on the previous firmware version).
The only solution (really a band aid) is to use component cables (red / gree / blue) for video and red / white for audio.  This will still give a full 1080i HD signal.

    Hello sohagshahin,
It appears that your HDMI port is not working on the notebook. I will try to assist with this.
Have you verified that the port indeed does not work by trying other tv's or monitors? (try one of each if possible).
Have you tried other HDMI cables?

  • Connecting a HDMI cable to my D20

    Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has had problems connecting HDMI cables to their D20 via an ATI FirePro 5700 cards.
I seem to not be able to get the cable to fit allthey way, and they keep popping out.  It appears that the rails on either side of the video card back (i.e. where you connect DVI/HDMI cables to the back) seem to keep the cables fom going in all the way.  I've been looking on the Inernet for HDMI connectors that might have longer connectors or thinner plugs, but have not been successful.  I was thinking about using my Dremel to cut/sand  the rails to create more room for the entire plug, or to sant some of teh casing of the plug to make it thinner, but both seem to be bad ideas, especially with regard to voiding warrenties.
    Does anyone have any ideas.
    Kind Regards,
    AP

Is your ATI FirePro 5700 from Lenovo, namely the option number 51J0510? If this is the case it has two Display Ports and one DVI, it doesn't have HDMI. Using the Lenovo Display Port to DVI adapter cable would be one option for you, another would be a Display Port to HDMI adapter.

  • Have Sony HDTV bought in 2003;the video in/out thingy doesn't fit the apple tv prong.  What can I buy and where to modify so I can plug in Apple HDMI cable?

I have a 2002 Sony HDTV "ready" tv and am trying to hook up Apple TV2.  On the back of the tv, the connection point where the HDMI cable goes in does not match the Apple connection HDMI cable.  I'm guessing that I need some sort of connector that goes into the tv at one end and that will accept the Apple tv 30-pin HDMI cable  Is there such a thing?  What's it called and where can I buy it?  Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV specifications state clearly that a TV with HDMI connection is required. DVI is not necessarily going to work as a number of people have found out, although many others have been able to get it to work.
A DVI cable may perform the same function as an HDMI cable for passing video signals but the hardware cards that it plugs into at each end may not.

  • HDMI cable

can anyone tell me if there should be a HDMI cable in the box which comes with the bb tablet because i am missing it

The HDMI cable is separately sold. It's not included. Most places that sell the Play Book and accessories should be able to order this cable for you if they do not have it in stock.
The HDMI video and audio quality from the Play Book is impressive. I have been feeding the HD from the Play Book to a 46 inch Sony LCD HDTV and Sony sound system.
I bought the HDMI cable, and the fast charger at Future Shop.

  • Solution how to deal with cheap HDMI cables and some VGA adapters.

I've purchased cheap HDMI cable which I couldn't force to work. Basically after plugging in the screen on my mac blink blue for a second, but then everything is going back to normal, and screen seems to be not recognized. I checked the cable with my friend's mac, and it was working just fine, so I thought hey something is wrong with my mac, either the MiniDisplay Port or Lion (10.7) has some bug (friend is working on (10.6).
I was experimenting with VGA adapter and it showed that MiniDisplay Port is fine, unfortunatelly it is painfull because quality is lower, and audio has to be plugged in separately. Accidently I've plugged in HDMI while audio was connected regular way and it started. So I figured out that probably grounding in those cheap cable is not sufficient for some macs. So step, by step solution:
    1. Plug in HDMI cable to your TV
    2. Switch TV to the right setting (display given HDMI port)
    3. Connect audio cable to your TV
    4. Connect audio cable to your MAC
    5. Connect HDMI cable to your mac.
    6. Image should appear on your TV, you can change resolution if you like
    7. To enable sound on TV go to System Preferences, choose Sound, Output tab, and choose your HDMI connected TV.
While testing my VGA adapter which was working fine but I never could make it work with my Panasonic TV, I found a way around. First you have to connect to regular monitor, or TV which is working, and then switch to TV. The reason why it is not working straight is probably to high resolution that mac is trying with this TV. In points:
    1. Plug VGA adapter to monitor or TV that you know it is working.
    2. Plug adapter to your mac
    3. With adapter connected to mac switch VGA cable to your panasonic plasma tv.
I hope this soultions will help some of you.
    Enjoy!

  • I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect an Apple TV box and a Comcast cable TV box to my TV. My TV has only one HDMI port.
To do this I will need a 2x1 HDMI splitter or a 2x1 HDMI auto switch (preferred).
?Is there any Apple TV HDMI port voltage?
When using a HDMI auto switch to connect two devices to a HDMI TV, the
Auto switch cable box only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.
Do you know of any other solutions? Componets? Actual expierances?
    Full text below.
Cable : HDMI switches expand the number of available HDMI ports on a high definition television allowing connection of cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and game consoles. A side benefit is that cable clutter is also eliminated by running a single HDMI cable to your HDTV from a switch and relocating the HDMI ports to a concealed location. The problem with most HDMI switches is that you have to either get up to push a button, or hunt for the remote control, to switch sources. The true mark of any great switching component is an ability to perform its function and remain transparent in its operation. This automatic HDMI switch is a plug-and-play away from offering everything you are looking for in an HDMI switch. Select a single output from up to three devices for signal delivery to your HDTV. Smart operation provides complete control for connect-and-forget operation. Powering on a device gives it output priority over the other devices. By powering down the device in use, output priority is returned to the last powered on device. Note: Auto switch function only works for components that do not output continuous voltage over HDMI port when turned off.

I have reached the same conclusion in the mean time. I have done a bit of investgation in to other grahics cards and am seeing some that show SPDIF connections from the card to the mother board. I was not familar with SPDIF but it did a little bit of sluething. It is of course a digitally enconded voice. I am guessing that in that case the mother board ( assuming it supports this hardware option) would use this output and be able to translate that digital audio to its other audio outputs. That is a lot of guessing of course. I think my "solution" might  be a whole new desktop - a rather drastic course of action! I was in the proceess of getting ready to upgrade this machine anyway with a new graphics card (which I will now return), go to Win 7, and maybe even a new digital TV reciever,  and I don't want to throw good money after bad anyway.
    Thanks for your comments

how do I connect my new (purchased last week) macbook air to my samsung smart tv? I purchased the adapter at the apple store and connected to the TV via HDMI cable.  The TV says "no signal.  I do not see TV as an option in the display tab of system preferences.  what else do I need to do?

First, make sure your TV is tuned to display the correct input signal. Most TVs have several inputs (multiple HDMIs, cable connections, RCA etc) so double-check that you're using the correct one - HDMI1, HDMI2 or whatever is written next to the port.
I assume that you have a mini-Displayport to HDMI adaptor? If you open displays preferences, first tick the box that says "show display preferences in menu bar" then locate the menu and click Detect Displays. See if that helps.

Cannot display the screen of my macbook on TV. OS is Lion 10.7.2. The Macbook is connected to the TV is over HDMI cable.  TV shows only the backgroud picture of the Lion OS and reacts even to mission control. Do you have any suggestions for help ?

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.

  • Apple TV won't connect properly to Sony home theatre system using hdmi cable.

Using an HDMI cable to the port on the home theatre system I can get sound, but the picture is intermittent. It Comes on for 1second, goes of for 10 seconds.
If I connect directly to the TV using the HDMI to DVI-D cable it works, but because I am using a Fujitsu plasmavision it is a monitor only with no speakers.
Would really like to get this to work and don't understand why the video signal is intermittent from the blueray player. Other inputs into the player through the HDMI port work OK (such as a set top box).

Just installed my Vizio SoundBar with my new LG TV & Apple TV 2... The trick to get the Apple TV 2 to send audio to the Soundbar is on the Apple TV Menu under audio change it to 16 bit. Boom it works.

HDMI cable connected from TV to Mac, what do I click on to get the movie on my laptop screen to show on my TV screen?

When you first hook it up it will probably have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
The TV will now have the Dock and Menu Bar and windows will open on it. But you can move the cursor to the MacBook screen and move windows from the TV over to the MacBook screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to use the MacBook’s keyboard and trackpad to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

  • Box needs reset occasionally because of hdmi cable?

Hello, Our box needs reset occasionally after trying to watch something on dvr or on demand.  Sometimes it will be a couple times a week, others times it will be several weeks in between.  I called fios support and they told me that it was because we use an hdmi cable instead of a component cable to connect the box to our receiver.
Do the set top boxes really not fully support hdmi?  And if not, why do they even have an Hdmi out and why did the Verizon installer connect it with a hdmi cable?
Could it be anything else?  Unfortunately, using a component cable really isn't an option with our receiver.  And resetting is a pain to do on a semi regular basis.

there's a possiblity that your problem is related to a video setting in the set top box.
give it a shot and let us know if it works,
go to menu > settings > video settings > SDOVERRIDE = make sure the checkmark is next to 'OFF'
    and then try it again.
