Connecting HH4 to DD-WRT router
Hello everyone,
I have just got my broadband nice and stable after many months of fighting and now looking to optimise it further by using my own router powered by dd-wrt.
I would like to disable everything on the HH4 such as wifi, dhcp, firewall, upnp etc so essentially disabling all its routing features and turning it into a modem only. I would then have my dd-wrt router manage the routing side and dhcp. I have managed to do all of this but disable the dhcp server on the hh4 as when i do so the internet stops working.
As of writing this i have the HH4 set up as above but with DCHP left on- as the internet stops working otherwise. I then have a cat5 cable going from the HH4 (not the WAN port) to my dd-wrt router which is set to forward the dhcp server of the HH4.
This setup works but devices cant see one another on the network, presumably because the dhcp server is before the router.
Can anyone tell me is it possible to completely disable the router side features of the HH4? All the options to do so appear to be there but as mentioned above when i disable the DHCP side i lose internet connectivity- and yes i do have my dd-wrt router set to manage dhcp when i try this.

Can anyone tell me if the open reach fibre modems will work on standard copper adsl. I'm seeing loads of those particular modems on ebay but i'm just not sure if they'll work. Also is there any specific version i should be looking out for or are they all pretty much the same?
Do a search for "openreach modem" on that famous auction site and you'll see there are loads to choose from, either unlocked or not, depending on whether you're interested in viewing your line stats.
Make sure that your router allows PPPoE connections and has a WAN port on the back, then it's just plug and play, once you've configured the router with your username and password credentials.

Hi, I am newbie. I am trying to build network system in Packet Tracer.
Now I have such network layout.
I have different VLAN's Accounting and Sales. I have configured this using subinterface in router to allow computers from different vlan's communicate with each other. Everything works.

I don't know hot to correctly configure router to make it possible for computers to connect to this server. I have connected switch to the another router interface. And than connected server to the switch and specified ip 192.168.20.13/24. Than I tried to set ip to the router interface from the same subnet like 192.168.20.22/24. So now router can communicate with server.
But how to allow computers to communicate with the server. Please help. I am newbie.

One question for you..How does the sales VLAN computers communicate with the accounting VLAN machines? It's through the inter-VLAN routing that you have already setup.
Communicating to the external server is also similar to this.
The computer's in the VLAN should be configured with the default gateway IP which is the the L3 sub-interface IP for that subnet.
Also, the external server needs to have a default gateway to communicate with other remote subnet. The default gateway of that server would be 192.168.20.22 which is the L3 interface for your external subnet.

I have a 3rd generation iPod Touch and just did the update to IOS 5. Now I can't connect to my Netgear wifi router. My iPhone connects fine along with all of my other laptops etc. I have the router set with WPA-PSK [TKIP] security and an access list. I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?
Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

I have an iPad (the earliest version) that used to connect to my Linksys wireless router with no difficulty. One night recently I could not get on the internet through my iPad. I checked the Wi-Fi information, which said it was not connected.When I go through the process of choosing a network, on which my home system is clearly listed along with a very strong signal strength, I am told that my iPad is unable to join my own network. All the other electronic devices in our house are connected and functioning fine. Can anyone walk me through the steps to correct this problem?
I need to add that I took my iPad to the Appple store, and the clerk there reset something--I don't know what--and my iPad was able to connect to their network. When I came home, though, I was not able to connect to my home network.If everything else is connecting with no issues, I would go into the wifi setting on the iPad and redo the info there, user, password and anything else related to your wifi at your house.
It is possible whatever he reset may have reset something to default setting which will not allow it to connect. If you need too then verify the wifi setting by comparing it with another device setting that works on your home network.

Connect 6800 printer to new router
I have searched all the HP pages and this forum and haven't found an answer that works. I have a Deskjet 6840 printer and just had to buy a new router (linksys N750) and cannot connect the printer via wireless.
With this model I cannot use the setup disk because it is 2 or 3 Windows OS systems old. I am able to connect the printer to the router via ethernet cable, and can get to the printer app screen on my PC via the IP address the printer gives me. When I try to set up the wireless that way, it allows me through all the steps. But it still won't connect.
Also, yes to the following: Drivers are up to date, router is working with every other device, the SSID and key I'm using are correct.
Can someone please tell me the steps to do this correctly? If my printer has now become obsolete, please break it to me gently.

You might try assigning a static IP address for the printer at the router.
If you are using MAC filtering on the router to protect your network, make sure the printer's MAC address is added to the "allow" list in the Wireless setup.
Try moving the router - as little as a few inches may help; remember that Wireless "g" is susceptible to interference.
Make sure the router is set to respond to 801.11g -- as far as I know, all routers do this by default; it does not hurt to check the setup.
There is such a thing as "too close": make sure the router and the printer are at least 1.5 meters apart (about three feet).
Make sure you install the Update for the network reliability (from Category "Update"):

Cannot connect IBM Thinkpad to Linksys Router Wirelessly
I recently moved in with a friend, and my IBM Thinkpad T42, with Windows XP, cannot connect to her Linksys WRT120N router wirelessly. I am able to connect to the internet using an Ethernet cable, and I am able to connect to other public wireless networks.
I have been told by Cisco helpdesk people that it is because Windows XP does not support WPA2 security, and/or that because they don't know much about IBM computers, I should get rid of the third party internet connection software, IBM Access Connections, that came with my computer.
I have been having this problem for a week, and I did not even know I had IBM Access Connections until today, so I don't think that's the problem. Also, my friend has been using that application successfully on her computer, Thinkpad T61, Windows XP, to connect to this router, which she has been using for 2 years. So with two almost identical computers, does anybody know why my wireless connection isn't working?Answer these questions, I may be able to give you the right solution to your issue:
1. Go to your Network Connections folder on your wired computer and check which one is connected:
a. Local Area Connection
b. Broadband Connection
c. 1394 Connection
2. What is the IP address of your computer?
3. Who is your internet service provider?

Hi.. My internet and wifi are working on samsung phone and hp laptop but its not getting connected to iphone ipad, only skype is coming online rest all apps and safari show no internet connection. Have you tried a simple reset of your iPod to see if that helps? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, have you tried any of the troubleshooting mentioned in this Apple support document?

How to use time capsule as hard drive and connect with existing net gear router
I have a netgear D6300 router, which i use to connect to internet - which is excellent so far for my downloads and games etc for my PS4 and hence am keen to continue using it. I bought the Airport time capsule for wireless storage, and when i set it up, I was advised on setup to connect the TC to my router, and it did what it needed to do.
Now, in order to connect to internet, i need to connect wifi to net gear router, but to access time capsule, i need to change wifi connection to my newly created wifi network with TC.
I want to use TC as a backup storage for my mac (its a 3TB TC), but also, my laptop has only 500gb hard drive which is now half full from downloads, so i want to transfer all my downloads to my TC and use it as an external hard drive, and future downloads to TC - but when i connect to wifi of TC, i can copy my folder on my mac, but not paste it to TC in finder. (the only thing in TC is an image of tmg of my macbook from first backup.).
How do i use TC as an external HD - there wasn't much difference in price of external wifi/wireless HD between non-TC and TC at 3gb, so i just thought i'd go for the airport TC option.
And is it possible to keep connected to wifi internet via net gear router, AND wifi TC - the whole point i bought it (from US shipped to australia on eBay, therefore not able to send back) was to use TC as external large HD via wifi, but keep my net gear router going.
Surely there is a way to not having to flick between wifi connections of TC and net gear internet.
When i'm connected to TC, i can't access internet, only TC.
And I don't really want to connect TC to my router via ethernet cable, as too many cables.
This can't be a difficult situation to manage, but i'm not sure how to do it.

Sorry but you have very little choice.
The TC can join to a wireless network.. but it is flakey, poor, slow and highly NOT recommended way to do things.
Nevertheless if you want to give it a try .. here is the method.
How do I setup my time capsule with wireless internet?
You SHOULD, plug the TC into the Netgear and run it in bridge mode.. you set the wireless to create a wireless network.. then when you connect to the TC it will be also connected to the internet and fast.
(if you don't do that you may as well have used a USB drive plugged into the Netgear, as it would be just as good).
TC is not actually designed for mixing Time Machine backups and files.. but if you are just storing downloads that is ok.. but I strongly recommend you use a DMG or sparsebundle to prevent the TM and the data from messing each other.

Trouble connecting wirelessly via Verizon FiOS router
I am using a Titanium G4 Powerbook, OS 10.4.11.
I have an Airport Extreme connected to a Verizon FiOS router. These are set to broadcast on different channels.
Our iMac is connected to the FiOS via Ethernet: no problem getting online.
Other Mac notebooks can connect wirelessly using either the Airport or the FiOS.
This notebook can connect via Airport; however when logged into the FiOS wirelessly, and getting a strong signal, I cannot connect. Diagnostics tells me "ISP failed"; Airport tells me I have a self-assigned IP address.
It seems I have some setting wrong somewhere?Why 2 routers?
-- only the AE can broadcast Airtunes
-- but the AE only has one hard-wired ethernet port (I need one for my imac and one for my ethernet printer)
-- and the FiOS router's wireless signal is stronger, I can get it in more parts of the house.
Thus the imac can be on via FiOS while the laptops are on via either FiOS or AE.
As long as both routers aren't distributing IP addresses on the same schema, should it matter?
I'll admit it would be easier to use only the FiOS router, but then no Airtunes. And I can't log onto the FiOS wirelessly, as I explained in my original post. -
Unablr to connect when using the Linksys router
I'm using the WRT54Gx2, version 2 router and have configured it per the directions and with a computer directly connected and logged into the router it connects to SBCglobal just fine. When I try to connect to the internet with the computer (not a wireless connection) it will not connect. I'm using a new computer running vista - if that makes a difference. I also tried connecting using another computer running xp and it will not connect.
Any suggestions?If it's a speedstream or westell modem, you'll need to change the router's address. Do you need to click an SBC icon or enter a username/password to get online on the modem or is it automatic?

Apple TV 2 all of a sudden has trouble streaming. I stream from my desktop computer's iTunes for movies, and tonight it started stopping randomly mid movie and saying it wasn't connected. Any ideas? Router? ATV dying?
It just says not connected, and as soon as it bails to menu, it connects again and will play for another minute before doing the same thing all over again.Hello David,

My internet 3rd party access point in in the basement and the speakers I want to stream music to wirelessly are upstairs. Does Airport Express need to be connected to my 3rd party router via ethernet cable or will it stream music wirelessly?

I bought a new Time Capsule 2Tb. I connected it to my internet router. I manage to set it up as base station but when i try to use it with time machine I always get the message "Check your IP addres"? What am I doing wrong? On my computer I have OSX 10.7.5
What IP address does the TC have and what IP does the computer have?
We need more info as we really have no idea what your network looks like.
Modem router, model, type of broadband?
TC setup as bridge or router?
Is the computer getting internet via the TC?
Are you using wireless or ethernet?
Have you set IPv6 correctly to local link in the computer on whichever network client is doing the connection?
Did this work the first time for backup and has now failed? If so simply reboot the TC. It is a constant bug that the TC is lost to the network. -
Wireless connection between D-Link WiFi router and Time capsule stopped working
We have an ISP provided D-Link wireless router (DIR-615) to which we wirelessly connected our 2Tb Time Capsule for back up and to connect a USB printer to out network. This worked perfectly for 3 1/2 years, until about a month ago, when the time capsule suddenly decided to go "off line". ie we could no longer access it or the printer via our wireless network. We had changed nothing - just one day it stopped working.
We tried to get it back online with no success. As the 2Tb Time Capsule was almost 7 years old and had had some HDD issues in the passed, we figured it had got old and died and that it was time to replace it; so we bought a new 3Tb Time Capsule, thinking this would get everything back to normal.
However much as we tried, we were also unable to get the new 3Tb Time Capsule to connect wirelessly to the D-Link wireless router. The Airport Utility did not show the D-Link wireless router or its wireless network, although we were (and are) able to see it in Systems Preferences>Networks from all our multiple devises. This in itself seemed odd. No matter what we tried, the Airport Utility would not find the D-Link wireless router and hence we could not add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the existing wireless network.
At the end of the day we got fed up with trying to add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the D-Link wireless network, and connected it via a LAN cable to the D-Link router instead. We then set it up as its own network. Worked gerat. Having done that we thought maybe the old 2Tb Time Capsule might not have been the problem after all, so we tried extending our new 3Tb Time Capsule wireless network using the 2Tb Time Capsule wirelessly. This worked perfectly! And we are now almost back to what we wanted.
So although we have a work around, this means now have 2 separate wireless networks as opposed to the original single wireless network where everything talked to everything else.
Can anyone shed any light on any of the following:-
1. Why the original wireless network connection between the D-Link router and the 2Tb Time Capsule just stopped working? Was there some software change from Apple that "decided" D-Link wireless routers were no longer secure; and therefore the TCs could no longer connect to them?
2. Why it was not possible to extend the existing D-Link wireless network using the the new 3Tb Time Capsule?
3. Is there is anyway that we can get back to a single wireless network based around the D-Link wireless router as the primary router connecting to the modem, where the 2 Time Capsules connect as "wireless satellite base stations"?1. Why the original wireless network connection between the D-Link router and the 2Tb Time Capsule just stopped working? Was there some software change from Apple that "decided" D-Link wireless routers were no longer secure; and therefore the TCs could no longer connect to them?
A firmware update to the TC came along and you agreed to it without perhaps even noticing.. it then smashed your setup because Apple do not recommend the setup you were using and it is very poor.

Because it is such a poor setup that Apple have taken away your ability to choose it unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Yes, this I can help you with.
I have several ways around the problem.. but the first one is.. why use the DIR-615 at all.. it is not a modem.. it is a very ordinary bottom end, poor single band slow wireless router.
Why don't you simply remove the DIR-615 from the network completely.. plug whatever it is the ISP supplies you.. an ethernet connection from whatever that modem is you mentioned into the WAN port of the Time Capsule. And use the TC in some router mode.. same as the DIR-615 was setup.. dhcp or pppoe or whatever.. I doubt the TC cannot match it.
If you have issues please post a few screenshots from the DIR-615 to show how it is setup from the WAN side.. and as long as you are given the username and password or whatever the ISP uses to authenticate then chuck out the DIR-615.
Tell me if that is a goer.. if not we can work out a few other methods..
eg. Simply turn off the wireless in the DIR-615. It is poor cf the TC and there is no need for it.. with the TC in bridge only use the TC for wireless as well as wireless extend with your old TC.
Or setup roaming network where everything uses the same SSID.
Then you will have one wireless network. And it won't matter what as long as it connects.. although IMHO this is not right as the TC is such a superior router now you are wasting your new TC.
