Connecting HP Envy to HDTV

I am trying to hook up my HP Envy 23-ic159 all in one desktop to a 55" LG HDTV.
I am using an HDMI cable from the computer to the tv.
The computer tells me "Your pc can't project to another screen. Try reinstalling the driver or using a different video card".
This should be a simple hook up via the HDMI cable, right? Someone please help.

Probs connecting 13"MBP to HDTV via Receiver

Hi guys,
I tried to hook up my MBP to my HDTV via my Onkyo receiver using the Mini Displyport-HDMI cable.I got a weird colour screen on my MBP and then it went blank,with no picture on either the HDTV or the MBP.
I then tried connecting directly to the HDTV using the same cable and it worked fine.
Has anyone any ideas as to why i'm having problems connecting through the receiver?

The receiver isn't a monitor, so it doesn't look like a monitor to the computer, and apparently it isn't "transparent" enough to let the computer see through it to your monitor or TV set.
You may want to connect the computer's video signal directly to the TV and use the receiver only for the audio, via a separate audio cable from the computer's headphone port.

My new Macbook air won't connect to my Vizio HDTV.

My new Macbook Air won't connect to my Vizio VO32LF HDTV. I bought a mini-displayport to HDMI cable to connect the two. When I connect the cable, and switch to the appropriate HDMI input on the TV, my Macbook Air screen will flash blue for a second, and then return to normal. The TV reports it's unable to find a signal. I use the HDTV as my primary monitor, so I'd really appreciate some help on getting the two to place nicely together!

Thanks for the reply. However, it appears that the issue is not with the hotspot, but with the network settings in the MacBook Air as every other device I have (including non-Apple devices) will connect to the iPhone hotspot. Another symptom is that my MacBook Air can find my iMac (and other network devices) on my wireless network, but the iMac can't find the MacBook Air.

Trouble Connecting Macbook Pro to HDTV

So I just bought a new LG TV and have been trying to connect my MBP to it but to no avail.
I used a Mini Display Port-to-HDMI adapter and then a HDMI-to-HDMI cable to connect to the TV. However, the tv screen says no signal and it just displays the LG sign.
On the other hand, my mac does not recognize the display when the TV is on. Once I turn off the TV, the MBP's screen flashes blue and then it recognizes the TV so I can change settings and stuff in the System Preferences. But as soon as I turn on the TV, the MBP's screen flashes again and then the display does not show up on my MBP at all. When I click "Detect Displays", nothing happens.
I read other posts about connecting a MBP to a HDTV but I didn't find any other post that had the same problem as I do.

"Mode not supported" when connecting MacBook Pro to HDTV

When I connect my MacBook Pro to the SAMSUNG widescreen HDTV and hit "Detect Displays", it does detect it as VGA Display and it gives me a bunch of options for resolutions and refresh rates, but there was no "Options" tab where I could check or uncheck "Overscan" and even keeping the refresh rate at 60 Hz, and even trying mirrored and non-mirrored screens, nothing worked. It still said "Mode not supported". I used a dual-link DVI to YPbPr cable which I just bought and my friend can connect his MacBook Pro to his HDTV with the same cable, but it doesn't seem to work for me. What's wrong?

Most HDTV's I've seen do not have a DVI port, usually they have VGA and HDMI though. Your best bet would be to get a Mini Displayport to HDMI or VGA adapter from your local Apple store or online.
If your are fine with 3rd party cables/adapters then I would suggest monoprice.com where I got a 10ft MiniDisplayport to HDMI cable (no cluncky adapter) for about $12. Just remember that the Macbooks do not support audio over HDMI so you will also need to run an audio cable if you want to use something other then the built in speakers.

Connecting 2011 MBP to HDTV (Samsung)

Hi all.
New to the Apple community and Apple computers, but I just recently bought a 2011 13.3" MBP. Since we are a cable-less household, we watch lots of programs through the XBox 360 (Netflix, Hulu) and through our computers. Today, my order from Monoprice.com arrived including a display port to HDMI adapter and a new 1.4 HDMI cable.
I was able to get video out of my MBP to my Samsung PN43D450, but no audio. I've read that in the past, you've had to use 2 cables to get audio from the MBP to an HDTV, but this has supposedly changed. Additionally, the only way I could get the HDTV to act as a display was to mirror my display to the second monitor (HDTV) and play with the resolution settings. Is there an easier way to set this up so that I don't have to mess with any setting when I connect my MBP to my TV? Also, can anyone confirm that I should be able to transmit audio through the display port to HDMI connection?

The new MacBook Pros supports Audio via MiniDisplay Port to HDMI. Be sure the adapter you're using is supporting the audio. Have a look in System Preferences -> Sound -> Output if it show's the HDMI connection as an output device.

Issues when connecting my MBP to HDTV...

I'm trying to connect my MBP to my LG HDTV.
My MBP is older...late 2007 or early 2008. The tv is around 3 - 3.5 years old.
I'm connecting using a DVI - HDMI adapter plug, then a HDMI cable. Not sure if this is possibly the issue, but...the TV shows some of what's on my MBP screen, but not all. It shows the original snow leopard desktop background, rather than my current background. I cannot see any of my desktop icons, nor my dock or the bar at the top w/ time etc. Also, when I open a movie file on my desktop, it does play on the TV but I have to drag it to the far right until unviewable on my MBP & only then is it viewable/does it show on my TV. But the quality of the video is pretty bad.
I've tried all of the resolutions on my MBP as well as on the TV & have tried to match them up, but it hasn't helped.
Any suggestions?

The LG TV model is 32LC7D.

Connecting to an LCD HDTV: DVI to HDMI male or female?

Unwilling to plunk down $40 at Best Buy I bought a cable advertised on eBay for $2 described as HDMI male to DVI male. However, when I got it, it turned out to be DVI male to HDMI FEMALE.
I want to be able to use my LCD HDTV (46" Sharp Aquos, 1080p, if it matters) as a monitor, hopefully to even and edit text using my wireless keyboard and mouse.
Do I have the right cable?

you'll need a male DVI to male HDMI To connect to your HDTV. You'll find good cable prices at monoprice.com , only place I buy cables. My mini is hooked up to my Aquos too and it looks great.

Connect iMac to an HDTV??

Does anyone know if an HDTV will work when hooked up to the new iMac? I can't seem to find anything on the topic. I have a Toshiba 30HF85 TV with HDMI and I have a DVI-to-HDMI cable.
I'll obviously need to get the mini-dvi adapter. I'm going to order the iMac soon and am just curious if I'll be able to mirror and use Front row on the TV...

Just last weekend I connected my Intel iMac to my Sony HDTV with the mini-DVI to DVI connector. My TV has a DVI input. It automatically showed up on the iMac as a Sony TV (in the display preferences). I wanted to try playing a HD movie trailer on it. In some ways it worked better than I was expecting (when opening an app such as iPhoto or Safari, it automatically enlarges and takes up about the same real estate as it does on your monitor. Very easy to read). But there is a problem with overscan. When I set it to mirrored mode, the image is cut-off on all four sides. There is an option to turn off overscan, but this then makes about an inch of black around the (full) image displayed. I only played with this for about five minutes and then put my iMac back in my office. When the MacBook Pro arrives (next week), then I will play around with this a little more. On a seperate occasion, I attached another LCD monitor to use in extended desktop. This setup is extremely useful for dragging and dropping from one app to another (such as iPhoto to iDVD or iMovie).

Connect imac 2011 to hdtv

Hi,
I am trying to connect my mid-2011 iMac to my HDTV but can't find any useful information on the Internet. The iMac lacks a display port thus I am not sure what connector I need to purchase to have a dual screen setup.
Is there any adapter in the market which allows me to have dual screens via the Thunderbolt ports?

You should be able to use existing mini display port to HDMI adapters -- Thunderbolt ports also provide display port signals.

If you have a display adapter with a DVI output, that can be adapted to the Video of HDMI with an adapter. The sound will have to be connected separately, from the Mac's Stereo line out jack (labeled headphones).
