Connecting iBook G3 with repeater (WPA

For some time we've been using a conventional router over WLAN access and partly with a repeater (range extender) with various macs/PC without any problems. Now, with WPA Personal protection the repeater didn't work (not supported) and we got a new one.
Since then only the newer Macs can log in using the repeater. The G3 cannot. All cumputers (including the old iBook G3) can still log in directly on the router. WPA Personal isn't a problem here. Is there any setting (G3/900) or do we have to get a new repeater? Which one?

Since you already have a wireless network at your home, you will NOT need any other hardware (as long as your ibbok already has an airport card). You might want to double check to make sure you do have an airport card and it is firmly seated in the slot. Is the iBok running OS X or OS 9? If it is OS X, what version is it (10.2, 10.3, 10.4)? The newer versions anything 10.2 and above should automatically detect any open wireless networks.
So since it isn't detecting the network, you can try a couple of things. First off is your network open, you is it encrytped with a password or something? So, go to the network settings in the system prefs (In OS X). When you open the network tab there should be a list of all available network routes (Airport, modem, bluetooth, ethernet, etc....) If the iBook is detecting the wireless, there should be a green light next to the airport setting. Double click on the Airport text and this will allow you to type in any custom settings you have for your wireless network.

Connecting ibook g4 with third-party wireless network

i've got a ibook g4 with an airport extreme card that i'm trying to connect to a third-party wireless network. When i am right beside the router, it works at about 75%, but I walk 15 feet away and the signal is totally gone. the computer the router is hooked up to is a PC, and so are the other three computers in the house that access the wireless network. The PC's are all further away from the router, yet they can still get a basic signal. Why is my mac not working with this and what can i do about it?

You can verify that the antenna wire is properly attached to the AirPort Extreme card. See the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card.

Printer can't connect to WIFI with an WPA

Hello , I have an Officejet 6700 Premium.
until last week the printer connected perfectly to the WIFI without any problems.
Today, when im trying to connect the printer through my WIFI that conatins a WPA password, the printer says that the password is illegal ( not correct).
there is no doubt that the password that i entered is correct.
When i turn off the WPA, and i deactivating the WIFI security, the printer connects to my WIFI and i can print again.
I have changed the password of the wifi ( the WPA ) many times, and still could'nt connect.
I dont want to leave my WIFI without a password.
What can i do ??

I understand that you are having a problem with your printer accepting your wireless password.
I would like to help.
Sometimes 'old' information gets stuck in the printer.
Go into the Settings/Setup menu.
Then go into the Network sub menu.
Choose Restore Network Defaults.
Once this is done, try the wireless setup wizard again.

I've confirmed the mac address is included on that list and that the password is correct. Under choses netwrok I select the network and it just goes into a spin. I have tried removing the password and the access list settings and it still will not complete the connection to the router thus no internet access. The routers firmware is also up to date. This thing worked fine before this update and I've already tried to restore from backup. Any ideas or is the wifi nic bad in this thing with the new apple firmware update? Any fix?

I have been suckered by this problem too. I had all my e-books, mostly PDFs, saved on my NAS and available in iTunes. I wanted to access them from my old iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and my new iMac with OS X 10.9. But when the files were moved to iBooks, they disappeared from the NAS and now I'm in a mess. I have a NetGear WGT624 Super G router connected to a Wild Blue modem (1 Mbs). My daughter has an iBook G4 Airport Extreme Ready, but no wireless card. If I order the Airport Extreme card and install it for her will it connect and work with my wireless router? If so, are there and special setup actions?

Yes, it will work. The only special set up that you'll need to do is enter the WEP /WPA password assuming that you've got security turned on. I hope that this helps.

Connecting MBA to domain using WPA Enterprise

Hi guys!
I'm having "the usual" new MBA WiFi-problems, meaning my MBA keeps dropping the WiFi connection occasionally, but that's going on in another thread.
I don't know whether this is a related problem, but I can't seem to connect the MBA to the WiFi network at the office at all. The network connection dialog tells me my connection needs WPA Enterprise credentials, but no matter what I write, I won't get connected.
So I'll start with the basics. This works for every other device I have (PC laptop, iPhone, iPads and so on):
Username: \\MyDomain\MyUserName
Password: MyPassword
But not for the MBA. For the domain/username, I've tried single \´s and /´s and just about any combination just in case this is a "Mac syntax thing" (this is my first Mac laptop), with and without the MyDomain part, lowercase, uppercase, quotation marks around the password (as I saw mentioned in some thread in the case of alphanumeric WEP, or some such), but nothing works. I don't remember the exact error message, but it has to do with the authentication server perhaps not being available.
Apparently others have had problems with the WPA Enterprise connections as well, but could somebody just confirm that the \\MyDomain\MyUsename -syntax I'm using is indeed correct.

I'm suprised that WPA works over WDS. I had thought that because WPA cycles the encryption key with each message transmission that the two Airport devices would quickly get out of sync.
But I do respect Alan's opinion, so I'd give in to his statement that it does work, I'll be searching through the update readme's to see when it started working.
You could always drop back to WEP encryption. Unless you have the FBI next door listening in and analysing all your network traffic, it's not going to be broken.
WPA changes the encryption key with each wireless message, WEP doesn't. So in theory, with WEP, someone could analyse all your network traffic, looking for patterns. You can work out just how hard that is.
If you choose an obvious password (like from a dictionary) it won't matter if you're on WPA instead of WEP, the Feds / hackers will be in in a short time.

T41 23739FU - wireless card connects to WEP, but not WPA

I have a T41 that has, according to Device Manager, a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI card. The system's product id is 23739FU. The problem I have is the system will not connect to a router using WPA encryption, but will connect to an open network or one using WEP encryption. Is this card only capable of connecting to WEP or an open network? Thanks in advance!

Your T41 has a non-genuine wireless card, and a rare one at that.
Spend $10 or thereabouts on an Intel 2200BG and you'll be able to use WPA encryption with no issues.

Connecting ibook and Power Mac via Ethernet

Is it possible to connect my ibook g4, with my Power Mac G4 via ethernet? I simply want to make it so I can swap files between the two. They're both running Tiger, 10.4.11, if that means anything at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mac OS X file sharing ( hope you know another language than english ). You need to go into sharing & turn on file sharing. It will share your public folder.

The Mac OS client shares the the public folder. You may try putting an alias in your public folder to the flash drive. To share the flash drive directly, you need SharePoints.
The Mac OS X client version contains most of the sharing software. It doesn't contain an extensive GUI for manipulating the software configuration.

Mac OS includes support for NFS, the native Unix network file sharing system. You may share files between Mac OS X systems with NFS as well as other Unix Systems. However, the documentation on how you make the shares is rather limited. Once you learn how to configure the net info database with the netinfo command, the shares are not too hard to make.

IBook G4 with OSX10.5.8 suddenly won't access Facebook.

In the past several days, my ability to access Facebook has failed. The response is always to the effect that FB unexpectedly dropped the connection while trying to connect. I normally go to FB from messages received in my Yahoo mailbox. I have even tried accessing FB by typing their URL directly.
I used a Microsoft computer today and FB loaded just right, no change in operation.
I see others have had problems with FB using Apple computers. Mine is an iBook G4 with OSX 10.5.8, totally up to date.
My ISP is Qwest.
Several people have mentioned some kind of app available from the store? That seems to relate to iPads and iPhones.
Can anyone help? I have been assisted wonderfully in the past on here and hope so again.

v10.3. The max a PowerPC Mac can use is v10.1.
v10.2 and v10.3 require an intel Mac.

Your hotspot will be billed by AT&T or Verizon based on your iPhone's model. Only the iPhone 4 from Verizon would allow a Verizon hotspot. Others have posted information revealing that the Verizon 3G connection is somewhat slower than the AT&T service. Also, the Verizon service suspends the use of hotspot when you take a phone call. The AT&T service continues during calling.
Selecting the hotspot feature under General> Settings> Personal Hotspot will change your data plan from your previous 250MB, 2GB, or unlimited amount to a new 4GB plan that includes tethering. AT&T charges me $45 instead of my Unlimited, but No Tethering Allowed, $30.
You can connect three devices that have WiFi. Verizon hotspots can connect five. Your speed should be about the same as the iPhone 4 browsing speed on 3G. If your phone is on WiFi, the devices need to connect separately to that WiFi, not to your hotspot. I would love to see a software update that allows my WiFi connection to be shared, so I don't have to manually connect the iPods that my boys use one at a time.

Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

Has ANYONE successfully connected a printer with Bluetooth?

I recently purchased a D-Link 120 and was unsuccessful connecting it to my printer with D-Link's 320. I was told by D-Link the -320 will not work with a multifunction printer.
I am set to purchase a new printer with a printer adapter from the same manufacturer....ie Canon MP500 and Canon bluetooth BU-20.
Perusing this discussion forum reveals many unanswered questions relating to connecting a printer with bluetooth. Before I purchase another printer, can anyone offer some assurances that this is, in fact, possible with OSX? TIA.

i did for about 6 weeks. i have the ambicom bluetooth printer adapter from comp usa. its on an epson rx500 photo printer. it's made for pcs, BUT it worked on the mac since the mac already had bluetooth capabilities...when i got my harddrive upgraded and osx had to be reinstalled, it no longer worked. i updated osx to the latest version, just like before the harddrive upgrade. my computer still scans for and finds the printer, but says that a necessary driver cannot be found. there was no additional driver ever installed by me, since the adapter only came with pc software in the first place. i just plugged it in and it worked. now no one can figure out what happened.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
