Connecting iBook harddrive to IDE box

Hi,
A couple of weeks ago my iBaby died... as a couple of people on here suggested, it was the logic board and the engineer said the repairs would cost as much as a new one, so reluctantly - and somewhat in shock - i bought a MacBook.
The harddrive on the iBook is believed to be fine (i didn't back-up... believe me, I will now) so I have bought a 2.5" IDE box to put it in and just spent the last hour removing the harddrive from the iBaby (breaks my heart to see her in pieces), following instructions found on here (thanks to those kind people).
So I have the harddrive out and I have the IDE box but I'm a bit concerned about the connection. The harddrive as a long bank of 'holes' and then a small gap and then four 'holes' on the end to connect... the IDE box has the long bank of 'prongs' to go into those, but nothing to plug into the four (two and two on top of each other)...
Is that correct or have I been sent an IDE box with a bit of socket missing???
I'm reluctant to plug it in and try
Thanks in anticipation
Charley xx

The "four (two and two on top of each other)" pins are for the . For example, if you have two hard drives installed, one will need to be configured as the "master" device and the other will have to be configured as the "slave" device. You would use a jumper to cover two of the four pins to tell the hard drive it should be a "slave" device.
Different configurations may vary between hard drive manufacturers, so without knowing exactly which model hard drive was in your iBook, we might not be able to answer your question without a doubt, but since your hard drive should have been "master" inside the iBook and will need to be "master" in your box, you shouldn't need to worry about that configuration. Usually the "master" configuration means there are no pins covered by a jumper.

My TV is mounted on a wall so I can't connect the Apple TV device. Is it possible to connect to an HD Cable Box and send signal to TV that way? Other problem is that Box only has one HDMI socket so would also have to use a splitter. Tried Apple Support but couldn't offer a solution. I can't be the only person with this issue surely?
    Help!

No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.

  • Removing the ibooks harddrive to make it an external harddrive

Hi there, recently my ibook died (the motherbaord went on it and its too expensive to fix) and I was thinking of removing the ibooks harddrive to make it into an external harddrive, as the hardrive in question has somethings that I need and also it would be usefull to have. Is this possible to do?
    Thanks.
    K.

    A few more details:
It died quite suddenly. I was using it as I usually do, when the ibook crashed (which hardly ever happens) so I restarted it only for it to crash as the apple sign appeared. The screen then started to turn a bright white after which it started to darken. I tried once or twice after that and generally it would start up and then crash after a minute or two. I then sent it off to get fixed and the company informed me that the motherboard was gone (Later I read on the slip of paper that I got back with the ibook that it was the Logic board)and that it would cost 893 Euro's to fix (including labour & tax), which would be about a thousand US dollars.

  • I was taking pictures on my iPad and all of a sudden these single verticle and horizonital white line showed up on my pictures that connected in a little white box.  How did it get there and how do I get rid of it?

I was taking pictures on my iPad and all of a sudden these single white horizonital and vertical lines appeared on my photo off center connected to a little white box.  How did they get there and how do I get rid of them.
    Thanks,

Sounds like you have the Grid turned on. Tap Options and turn off Grid.
The grid is used to assist in composing a photo using "the rule of thirds". Rather than centering your subject line the subject up on a line or intersection of the line for a more pleasing photo. Landscape photos can also look better by aligning the horizon with one of the horizontal lines

  • My IMac just stopped recognizing my Iphone and Itouch when I connect them?  Any idea why?

My IMac just stopped recognizing my Iphone and Itouch when I connect them?  Any idea why or how to fix this?

Did You upgrade iOS on the iPhone and ITouch?
It might be that you now need a new version of iTunes for the new version of iOS.
I am guessing here because you did tell us very much to go on.

    PS4 - wired or wireless?

  • Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Plz advise.

Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.

If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.
    Post back on your results.

  • Before I had Mavericks I was able to print over the network to a Windows PC. Now I receive the message, "connection refused." Any ideas?

Before I upgraded to Mavericks, I was able to print over the network to a printer attached to a Windows PC. Now, I receive the message, "connection refused." any ideas as to why this may be and what I can do about it would be appreciated.

I had reconfigured all of the settings the same as in the previous OS X. The only thing I can think of that may be causing this is that the printer is an older Canon Pixma iP4300 and the Canon site doesn't have a driver for the new OS X. The Canon site said that the new OS X may supply the driver. Is there any one with the same experience as mine?

  • My brand new IPad won't connect to my wi-fi box.

My brand new IPad won't connect to my wi-fi box. I have been entering the required 26-character code (this is in France) over and over, phoning my supplier but to no avail. I have also checked bluetooth connection as some-one suggested in a discussion and its ok. I'm at a loss ! Can anyone help ? Thanks !

Turn Bluetooth off in Settings > General > Bluetooth
Having Bluetooth enabled while using Wi-Fi can cause interference.
Now tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Restart the iPad. Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi. Make sure Wi-Fi is switched on.
If it still won't connect, try here >  iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

How i connect iBooks with itunes on my nas?

I have been suckered by this problem too. I had all my e-books, mostly PDFs, saved on my NAS and available in iTunes. I wanted to access them from my old iMac with OS X 10.6.8 and my new iMac with OS X 10.9. But when the files were moved to iBooks, they disappeared from the NAS and now I'm in a mess. Thanks, Apple :-(

A box saying iCloud Backup 'This iPad hasn't been backed up in 2 weeks.Backups happen when this iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to wi-fi' - this box will not go away and so I can't use the iPad at all?

press and hold top power button and home button in front for 6-8 seconds until you see an apple, for it to reset.
and make sure your initiating an icloud backup or it will come up again.
    1. be connected to wi fi
    2. be plugged in to power source
    3. turn screen off
go to settings>icloud>storage and backup>backup now.
