Connecting iBook's internet to Xbox 360?

I know this may be a long shot, but is there any way for me to use my iBook's wireless internet connection to set up live on xbox 360? thanks

Actually yes. That's what I do when I go to my friend's house and his router isn't anywhere near his TV. I understand not wanting to drop $100 bucks on a wireless adapter.
First you need to enable internet connection sharing for the ethernet card. Go into System Preferences then Sharing. Go to Internet tab and select to share your Airport connection. Make sure you have Built-In Ethernet selected below and click Start.
Then you need to setup the ethernet card that you will use to plug your xbox 360 into and i always opt for manual setup rather than DHCP for internet connection sharing. Go into System Preferences and then "Network." Click on the "Built-In Ethernet." Click "Configure" at the bottom. Where it says "Configure IPv4" select "Manually."
Set the network cards ip address to 192.168.2.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Set your xbox 360 to the following
Go into your System Settings blade and select Network Settings. Edit, then make sure you select manual. After you enter the IP, Subnet, and Gateway. Just test it to make sure those clear. Your DNS won't pass right away. Then go back to the settings and select to edit your Primary DNS to the address below.
IP address 192.168.2.2, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Default gateway 192.168.2.1, DNS 192.168.2.1
I usually don't get as fast a connection as I do any other way but it works. If it works, hit me up on Live with FR at SG Big Pun.

  • Sharing Internet with xbox 360

Hi, I have my Powerbook sharing internet with my Xbox 360. The connection works well and I am able to play games, but the NAT is listed as Moderate, with a Moderate NAT I am not able to do private voice chats with people. Does anyone know how I can get my NAT to Open? Also, I would like to share my media with my Xbox that is stored on a Windows XP computer. I followed all the steps given at www.xbox.com/pcsetup, but the Xbox still does not see the computer.
Any help would be appreciated, Thnx

If you are using Internet Sharing on your PowerBook you can forget trying to modify NAT settings or make nearly any other adjustments. There are very, very, very few options.
If you want to make adjustments like that you need to get a real base station.

I have a 30GB video iPod that I purchased in April of 2006. After downloading the AAC upgrade on X-Box live, my iPod is not recognized by the Xbox360. The odd thing is, the Xbox will recharge the iPod, and the Xbox will recognize an iPod Shuffle purchased in April of 2006, and an iPod Nano purchased last Christmas. Any ideas on why the older iPod Video doesn't work?

  • Connecting iBook to internet via Airport

I just bought a used 14" G3 iBook 700MHz w/ Airport card and can't get it to the internet via my home wireless network. The home network has no problems connecting w/ our MacBook, 12" PowerBook and 13" G3 iBook via Airport. My wireless router is a D-Link DI-624M. The new (used) iBook had no problems connecting to the wireless network at our nearby Apple Store and connects to the internet correctly when I plug the ethernet cable directly out of the cable modem into the computer. The iBook apparently has no problem connecting to the wireless network in our house (full bars shown in the menu bar and, when doing the Network Diagnostic process, it shows that the Airport connection is good). But it is not connected to the internet. Any suggestions?

ooops, I just realized this is the G4 forum. I'm moving this post to the G3 forum. Sorry

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions
Does it have this problem at exactly the same time your other computers are connected?
The only time I get that message is when our ISP is having problems or the modem needs to be reset.

  • Trying to Connect iBook to Internet Via Windows PC Verizon Wireless Card

I have a Windows PC laptop (IBM Thinkpad) that has a built-in Verizon wireless broadband card, which allows me to connect to the Internet from any location. I'm trying to find a way to share this connection with a Mac iBook. I can hook the two computers to each other with an ethernet cable, but then I can't figure out what to do to allow the iBook to access the PC's internet connection?
BTW - the PC is running XP, the iBook OS 10.4 (and Airport, although this doesn't seem like an Airport-related issue).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do I need an Air Port Base station or a router? After I set up everything on my mac mini, what steps do I need to follow on the iBook to get Internet access?
The AirPort base station is a router. You are not limited to AirPort base stations as non-Apple 802.11g routers (like those from Belkin, D-Link, or Linksys) will work just as well. Using a router, your network configuration would be something like the following:
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] router > (wireless) > wireless computers.
The set up for both computers, to access the router, would basically be the same.
To setup AirPort for High-Speed Cable Internet connectivity:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create an AirPort configuration, the AirPort card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
    - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
    - Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)

This is my first use of Airport other than using the iBook at Wi-Fi spots.

  • Sharing Internet with Xbox 360 *DNS* -- Previous Posts Didn't Help!

    I am running OSX 10.5.1
I want to share my laptop's wireless connection with my xbox via the ethernet port.
My router's IP address is: 192.168.1.1
My PowerBook's airport IP address is: 192.168.1.3
Under Sharing, I have set it to share my Airport with Ethernet.
*In the ethernet network panel of my PowerBook, my settings are:*
    Configure: Manual
    IP Address: 192.168.2.1
    Subnet Masks: 255.255.255.0
Router: 192.168.1.1 (if this is left blank, the xbox can't correctly obtain an IP address, don't ask me why, and occasionally, it stops my laptop from getting internet... weird)
    DNS Server: BLANK
    Search Domain: BLANK
*On my xbox, I have set it to:*
    IP Settings: Manual
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.2.1
    DNS Settings: Manual
    Primary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1
    Secondary DNS Server: 192.168.2.1
it gets as far as obtaining an IP address, but it fails the DNS check!!!
I am at my wit's end!!!
What can I do!?!?!?! I have tried everything.

I'm not sure I can help troubleshoot your issue specifically, but I just went through the same process it sounds like you're trying to do and I found the following link to be very helpful:

  • WRVS4400n slowly blocks/drops internet games (xbox 360)

As you read from the subject title. my WRVS4400n plays different online games with no problem for about 1 minute. after that the connection slowly get worse to the point where it seems to just stop responding. its almost like it does it slowly to torture you. my connection is 7.1ADSL so it is not lag. i haven't tried downloading large files but laptops seem to be able to browse the internet at lightning speeds.
It is located behind a wrt150n which i converted to a wireless switch. i turned off its SPI firewall to be safe.
    firmware: 1.1.08 (beta)
    UPnP: enabled
    encryption: WPA Personal
    channel: 3
    QoS: no
IPS: enabled, blocking p2p filesharing and bittorrents
i tried turning off all the firewall settings. it didn't change anything. i read that this router is a peice of junk but i was hoping that this sounded like a classic case of something that could be tweaked.
there are going to be 23 people in my house in the fall, there are currently 6. so i cant make myself the DMZ host or port forward all xbox ports to me, that would be selfish.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. If you need more info on my settings, let me know.

  • Internet Sharing and Xbox 360

I want to share my Airport connection via ethernet to my Xbox 360. When I go to the internet sharing pane in system preferences, Ethernet does not show up as an option to share over. Any suggestions as to how to get it to show up? I have a late 2006 macbook.

I also recently got an Xbox and have been researching this same topic. This has been the most consistent solution to the problem that I've found:
you can share your internet connection through your Mac using a wireless network, but you have to connect your Mac to the Xbox via ethernet:
modem > wireless router > (via wireless) mac > (via ethernet cable) xbox (equipped with the Xbox wireless adaptor)
most people advising this solution were using a portable mac so it was easy for them to move it around.
The question that I still have not found an answer to is this: can I connect my Xbox WIRELESSLY to the internet via my iMac's airport connection? i.e.:
modem > (via ethernet cable) iMac > (via WIRELESS shared internet connection) > Xbox
I'm going to try the first solution for my 1-month free membership, but would rather not have to use my macbook as a wireless bridge if I can keep everything wireless by getting the Xbox wireless adapter.

    Hi guys,
I have an xbox 360 and a new macbook. I want to connect my macbook to the xbox 360 to view itunes library and photos etc. How do I go about this, ie what cables etc do I need? Can I connect now using the stuff I have?

    BT HomeHub
    Ethernet Cable

    Help much appreciated,

I use a program called Connect 360 from Nullriver Software which is free, just have a look on Google for it. It connects to your macbook via your wireless connection. You can watch .wmv and play music from your itunes. Just put the program on your macbook and it is very easy to set up.
