Connecting iPad to computer for the first time

Thanks to community members who have helped me by answering my queries... when I connect my new iPad Air for the first time to my computer...as I want to copy some apps from my iPad 2,... Do I click 'new' or 'restore'.. Bit confused as what to do, as I particularly want to download the Mystery Manor app and content from my iPad 2 as I do not want to have to start at level 1 because I am now on level 225 thank you.

Backup your iPad 2 to either iTunes or iCloud and restore that backup to your iPad Air.

My Iphone 4 just updated to the iOS6.  I've connected it to my computer for the first time since then, and wanted to back up my photos in iPhoto.  However, although Iphoto recognized my phone, it shows no photos to upload or backup.  It lists my phone in the "devices" category on the left bar, but no longer shows any of my photos.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box?  If so, do:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings

Is there a way i can get them back as i did not want it to restore my old phone anyway! i also had my hone set up to the cloud and it didnt work! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME

Can you try to use another computer?
If this does not work, visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place, and show them the phone, maybe they can restore it before you'll have to get it serviced.
Did you try to put it in recovery mode?

Try restoring from the backup created at the beginning of the sync process:
Without connecting your phone, open iTunes, go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from syncing automatically"
Connect your phone, right-click on the name of your phone when it appears on the left sidebar in iTunes
Select Restore from backup, choosing your most recent backup to restore from
Disconnect your phone and confirm that your photos are back
Go back to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and re-enable automatic syncing.

  • When I plugged my iphone into the computer for the first time I lost all of my music and my ringtones. Is there a way to get them back without buying them back?

When I plugged my iphone into the computer for the first time i lost all my music and ringtones. Is there a way to get them back without buying them again, or will I have to buy them again.

Download the free app My Contacts Backup and use it to back up the contacts on your device now (it will back them up as an attachment to an email that you send to yourself).  Then restore your device to your most recent backup to see if it will recover your contacts.  If not, if necessary you can open the email and tap the attachment to re-import the contacts you have now back to your device.
If you need to restore to an iCloud backup this has to be done in the initial setup process, which requires you to first erase your device.  If you have any more recent data on your device now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens on your device, and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

Try to connect in recovery mode, explained in this article:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
Before that, back up your device, explained here:

  • ...here goes...i plugged my iphone into my computer for the first time to charge it, and walked away....when i returned it showed i had to open an account, ... my phone was charged, but the problem is it deleted all my pics and my contacts.....  is there

i plugged my iphone into my computer for the first time to charge it and was in a hurry and walked away, when i returned the add apple i tunes account information screen was up.....
my problem is, all my pictures got deleted from my phone, all my contacts got deleted also......weird thing is it put pictures on my phone from another phone and also txt msg from another phone......  has this ever happened to anyone else? if so,....do you know how, or where the pictures got moved to? and if they were deleted, is there a way to pull deleted pictures form a phones memory??   thank you any body that can give me any assistance....i really need it...

It can't do that by itself. You had to click through several prompts telling it to restore it from a backup of an old phone for that to happen.
If the phone was not backed up to iCloud before this happened, or to another computer, then the data is gone. There is no way to recover it.

  • I updated to ios 7 2 days ago and I synced with my computer for the first time yesterday. Most of my calendar appts and events were wiped off my phone but are still on the computer. I use outlook 2010 and a pc running windows 7.

I updated my iphone 5 to  ios 7 two days ago and I synced with my computer for the first time yesterday. Most of my calendar appointments and events were wiped off my phone but are still on the computer. I use outlook 2010 and a pc running windows 7. Rebooting the phone and the computer failed to remedy the calendar sync problem.

Easy solution for restoring lost calendar informaiton, thank goodness.  On your iPhone, go to settings, then to iCloud.  If your Calendar selection is turned off,  turn it on.  Your info should restore.  If your Calendar selection is turned on, then turn it off.  Choose to save calendars when asked.  After it shuts the Calendar off, turn it back on.  Your info should be restored.
Thank you to Apple support for walking me through this.  Shame on you Apple for not just telling people about this easy fix rather than making us go through all of this pain and worry.

  • IPad 2 starting for the first time without itunes ?

    Hello everyone,
I just bought an iPad 2  for my brother in India. :-).  A brand new iPad 2 in a white box from best buy. I have couple of questions and hope the forum members would help. Thank you.
    1. As i unboxed , i pressed the Home button, and the iPad screen didn't show the connect to itunes logo, instead led me thru' a series of steps like registering for itunes/apple password and it just started on its own. It works fine though ,however i found this to be weird to start without connecting to itunes. Is this considered "normal" for recent iPad 2's to start without itunes ?.
    2. What kind of travel adapter would you suggest for use in India /240V ?. I was suggested to purchase  a world adapter kit from apple store for $39.00 ,but i would use only one adapter and the rest wouldn't be of any use ? Could you suggest an adapter to use in India ?

Thank you. My question is about starting iPad 2 for the first time without connecting to iTunes ?
As of iOS 5, it is quite feasible to start up, configure and use an iPad without connecting to iTunes. My New IPad has NEVER been synched to a computer.

  • Hooking up my iphone to a new computer for the first time....

My computer broke and isn't worth fixing so I can't access it again. My mom just bought her a new laptop so I just inherited the one she had been using (actually ended up working out great for me cause it's only a year old and nicer than mine that broke).  My new computer didn't have iTunes on it until I just installed it a few moments ago.
My question is whether or not I need to be concerned that my iPhone is gonna be erased the first time I plug it into this new computer?  I'm concerned I'll lose all my contacts, apps, photos, settings etc.  Just last week I backed up all my music and movies to my external drive, luckily I happened to do that right before the computer died so I'm not worried about that.
If it is a problem how do I stop it from erasing all that when it syncs?

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced or manually managed with music and videos with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only.
When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
Photos transferred from your computer are optimized for viewing on your iPhone as part of the iTunes sync/transfer process. The original resolution of these photos is reduced on your iPhone. All photos on your computer and all photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data, which should include your iTunes library as well.
Backing up your iTunes library per the instructions included with this link and transferring the backup to a new or different computer will prevent any iTunes content from being erased from your iPhone first when transferring iTunes content from a new or different computer.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iDevice but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize the new or different computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so. With your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
You can use a 3rd party paid utility such as this one to transfer photos from your iPhone that were transferred from your former computer, but the original resolution of these photos will be lost, and such utilities are not supported by Apple.

Contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer. If you aren't doing so, contacts on your iPhone are not touched when syncing your iPhone with iTunes on a new or different computer. If you are syncing contacts with a supported address book application on your computer and the supported address book application on the computer is empty, before the first sync for this data enter one contact in the supported address book application on your computer. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.
