Connecting ipad2 to viera TV without HDMI cable

Is it possible to use viera Panasonic tv as iPad 2 second monitor without using HDMI cable.

Only by using an AppleTV attached to the TV, and using the Airplay mirroring feature. It doesn't extend the iPad, it mirrors it.

For the "Arangements" option to appear, the external display must be turned on with the correct input selected and connected to the computer.  Then close system prefs, reopen, go to "Display" and "Arrangement" will be along the top.

Cannot display the screen of my macbook on TV. OS is Lion 10.7.2. The Macbook is connected to the TV is over HDMI cable.  TV shows only the backgroud picture of the Lion OS and reacts even to mission control. Do you have any suggestions for help ?

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box.

My apple TV is connected to a DTV with an HDMI cable and to my Yamaha receiver via optic cable. We rented a movie on Apple TV and.found that the movie played, but we only got audio for music tracks. Voice tracks were silent using both TV and receiver.  This only occurred on the rented video and on recorded shows on my cable DVR. previews and other content on Apple TV are fine. Any ideas??

Previews and trailers do not contain 5.1 audio.
If you have recently moved your setup, you may have inadvertently changed some of the settings on your receiver. It certainly sounds as though it is unable to play the 5.1 audio from the Apple TV.

Does your Macbook support Airplay?    What year is it?  Typically mid 2011 and newer Macbooks offer Airplay capability.

  • How to connect iPad to the tv via HDMI cable

we have a HDMI cable and an adapter for the iPad but it still won't connect, it isn't the cable or the tv as it works with other devices

I myself made the experience that the adapter set-up causes a lot of trouble. After the last iOS update it stopped working for me and could not be reactivated. I almost tried everything but I couldn't make it work again. I bet that in some years the video-out option over lightning will be cut-off completely. My solution: I got an Apple TV and am now streaming all my content via wifi (found  a good tutorial here). Sold my Lightning adapter on ebay. The Apple TV isn't actually that much more expensive but got some nice features. Works great with my iPad and I should have bought it right away But please, Apple, if you don't want us to use the Lightning adapter then just don't offer it at all...

  • Screen turns black after connecting TV via DVI adaptor  and HDMI cable

I've just got the brand new MacBook Pro from the Apple Store. It is sensational.
    But one thing doesn't work!
I used my old "*DVI - HDMI cable*" and the new "*Mini DisplayPort - DVI adaptor*" to connect my new MacBook with my SHARP Aquos LCD TV. But the screen of the MacBook just turned black and nothing else happened, even if I removed the plugs. The only thing I was able to do was a reboot.
The HDMI cable worked very well until today with my old PowerBook G4 (I just didn't need the adaptor).
Do I need another adaptor? What is wrong? Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Did you ever resolve this problem? I want to hook up my MBP to my Aquos TV and wondered what cable to get.
    Regards,
    Kent Larsson

  • IMac won't offer display mirroring option when connecting to HDTV with Thunderbolt to HDMI cable

I have an iMac, and am trying to connect to my HDTV to use as a second display (mirror). I am using a cable with a Thunderbolt connector at one end, and an HDMI on the other. I know the cable works because I have used it with my MacBook on other TVs. When I use this on my MacBook, I simply open displays, and between the tabs marked "Display" and "Color" there is always an "Arrangement" tab to select. When I try this same setup on my iMac, the only two tabs I can see are "Display" and "Color" - the option to mirror disdplay (or recognize the HDTV in any way) simply doesn't exist.
I would welcome any help. Thanks much, Doug.

OK, yes your Mid 2011 has a Thunderbolt port.
Reset > the System Management Controller
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
and the > NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
Then try connecting the TV to the iMac.

  • Connecting to home theater receiver without hdmi

I have a sony hdtv and a yamaha receiver which work great but don't have hdmi ports.  I connected apple tv through hdmi to component video converter and then to dvd inputs on yamaha receiver.  When i turn everything on and select dvd on yamaha receiver i see the apple symbol on sony hdtv for a few seconds but then nothing but a black screen.  Can I use this converter?  Is there a way to make this work?  Thanks

There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2).

  • Connecting HDTV with mini displayport with HDMI cable dos'nt work

MacBook pro 15" mid 2010 when connected is nothing to see on HDTV. Could you give me some advice? thank you

Did you look at System Preferences>Displays?  Does the category 'Arrangement' appear?  Did you click on 'Detect Displays'?
Have you examined the instructions that came with your TV?  There should be settings for  an external PC/computer.
    Ciao.

  • Can i set up apple tv without hdmi cables

can i set up apple tv to a tv that does not have HDMI

HDMI is the only supported method. Even if it did work you would have issues with HDCP content (i.e. iTunes, Netflix etc) and if it's an older TV, issues with resolution, aspect ratio.

  • I have a Macbook Pro 13.3 i5 w/ no hdmi port. How can I connect my Mac to TV to watch video, photo ?  Is the Thunderbolt port a mini display port where I can use a mini display port to HDMI cable? If not, what are my options??

I have a Macbook pro 13.3 w/ i5 that has no hdmi port. I want to be able to connect the Mac to my TV set to watch Video, Photos and files from Mac to TV.
Is the Thunderbolt port similar to a display port or mini display port? Can I use thunderbolt port to connect thru a mini displayport to HDMI cable or converter?
Been trying to locate a USB to HDMI cable or converter (at a reasonable price) but all I found is a displayport or mini displayport to HDMI cable/converter.
What other options are available ?
Thanks a lot for your assistance.

Thunderbolt uses a Mini DisplayPort adapter to send video and audio to HDMI. Here's some on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_2_8?url=search-alias%3Dcomputers&field-ke   ywords=mini+displayport+to+hdmi&sprefix=mini+dis%2Caps%2C249#/ref=nb_sb_noss?ur l  =search-alias%3Dcomputers&field-keywords=mini+displayport+to+hdmi+with+audio&rh =  n%3A172282%2Cn%3A!493964%2Cn%3A541966%2Ck%3Amini+displayport+to+hdmi+with+audio

  • Cannot Connect Pavilion dv6 2020sa laptop to HDTV using HDMI cable

    Hi
I have tried to connect my laptop to HDTV using HDMI cable but it just comes up with a 'No Signal' message on TV, any ideas?  I have done a search on internet with no joy.
    Operating system is Windows 7
TV is 32" LG LCD HDTV

I have been having the same issues trying to connect my Laptop to my TV to use as a DVD player. A normal HDTV cable would not work. I went to Best buy, and found a HDMI cable that said "Laptop to HDMI cable" It was the only HDMI cable out of all of the HDMI that said "Laptop to HDMI". It was also twice the cost, $50.00 for a 10 foot cable. It seems a little to high in price so I am looking for a cheaper one on the web. If I find one, I will post to let you know.

  • Which kind of HDMI-cable do I have to use to connect the mini to my HD-TV

After I connected the mini with an ordinary HDMI-cable to my tv, I only see the notes to start the mighty an the keybord, this Screen disappears after few seconds. I don't really got no startscreen. Do I have to use special HDMI-cables to connect it to my tv?

Not really. The cheap cables usually work just as good as the most expensive brands. Wire is wire, no matter what anyone else tells you. Sure, the most expensive cables are fancier; but they're going to be hidden from sight when you install them behind the equipment.
If you're having problems seeing your Mini on your big screen, there's the possability that you have a bad cable. Swap it with a known good cable and see what happens.
BTW: I picked up a package of three 6 foot HDMI cables at the local Big Lots for under $20; and my Mini looks great on my big screen.
