Connecting IPhone 3G to Computer

In most cases, hardware that you connect to your computer is supposed to be in the off position, then you plug the USB into the computer, then the hardware, and THEN you turn it on after connected with the computer.
For instance: My cameras must be off; my Garmin must be off, etc..
So, should the iPhone be turned off or on when you connect it to the computer via the USB cable, and then be turned on? Or does it matter whether it is off or on? The instruction book does not answer this question.

I bought an iPhone 3GS six days ago and synced it with my computer immediately, everything worked fine until today. I connected the iPhone and my computer flashed a blue screen with writing on it and then restarted. I did not see what was written on the blue screen because it was only visible for a moment. Thinking it may have been a problem with itunes i have removed itunes and any apple software on my computer (except safari). I then reconnected my iPhone and nothing happened. I then went to proceeded to download itunes again, halfway through the install the blue screen flashed and the computer restarted. I then re-removed itunes etc and tried connecting again only to find the computer restarts even though itunes isnt installed.
So in sumary; when I connect iPhone to the computer, it restarts. What should i do?

Have any photos in the camera roll on your phone?
Running any logitech camera software, i.e. a webcam?
If so, that's most likely your problem. There is a know conflict between logitech's software and the iphone. You can see if there are updated drivers available or try & disable the logitech cam(if you have one), & see if that fixes the problem.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

Connecting Iphone 5 to computer and Iphone

Recently upgraded to Iphone 5. Computer (HP Windows 7-64bit) does not even recognize as portable device and is not recognized by Itunes.
Have litterally done everything listed on support: Deleted I tunes and all software and re installed, went under services to make sure softwared was running, have restarted phone and computer multiple times. I have a new I pad that uses same cord and is working just fine and is recognized instantly. Even triged daughters I phone 4 and works fine. Tried different cord and still nothing!

Anyone! Please, anyone! I just got an iPhone and plugged it in to my existing iTunes and it required for me to update to a new version of iTunes in which I did, which is now 7.4.3.1. It isn't compatible with the 64 bit version of vista. If you search the threads you might find some workarounds that might work. I believe the installer doesn't put the files in the correct directory.

When syncing your device for the first time, iTunes will prompt you to either setup as a new device. Make sure to select the option to setup as new otherwise your data will be overridden. You will also need to transfer purchases as outlined in the second article below. To import your photos to your computer, see the last article. I would recommend following the steps for importing photos first.

Connecting Iphone crashes my computer, any help?

Every time I connect my Iphone it crashes my laptop and forces a restart through the blue error screen, the computer loads the immediatly crashes again.
Its only recently started doing this, any help?

Did you take some photos with your iPhone?
Does your PC use a Logitech Camera or Logitech Camera Software?

When there are photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll, your iPhone is also detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer. Although photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process, photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. Not a good idea to depend on your iPhone's backup alone for these photos, and deleting the photos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete will improve your iPhone's backup time. If you want any of the imported photos available on your iPhone for viewing, you can add the photos to an existing iPhoto album already selected to be transferred to your iPhone followed by a sync, or create a new iPhone album for the recently imported photos, select the new iPhoto album under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.

iTunes automatically syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPhone to your computer. This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a backup if you delete them from iPhone.
Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos application until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPhone, it isn’t deleted from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from iTunes, it is deleted from iPhone the next time you sync with iTunes.
You can sync the iTunes Voice Memos playlist to the iPod application on iPhone using the Music pane in iTunes.
Sync the Voice Memos playlist to iPhone:
1. Connect iPhone to your computer.
2. In iTunes, select iPhone in the sidebar.
3. Select the Music tab.
4. Select the “Include voice memos” checkbox and click Apply.

I've reread your question several times and am not sure I understand it.
Are you trying to basically start over, as if you just took your iPhone out of the box? If so, do:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
