Connecting iPhone 3G to Macbook with dead battery

Battery died. Using Magcord for now. iPhone won't connect to download music.
Is a new battery necessary to do that??

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I doubt that's the problem. The 3G has these requirements:
◦iTunes 7.7 or later
10.4.11 should work with it as long as you have a current iTunes supported by 10.4.11.

Whenever I connect iPhone 3GS to sync with Mac sync fails to open. Brand new are there any upates I am unaware of?

"sync" fails to open?  Do you mean, iTunes?
If you manually open iTunes, does your iPhone show up in the left column?
    If so...
Click on your iPhone in the left column of iTunes.
Click on the "Summary" tab in the right colum of iTunes.
    Scroll down to "Options"
Select "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected"
    Apply
My apologies if I misunderstood the question.

  • Recently when I connect Iphone 4s and MacBook Pro my computer stopped see new photos on Dropbox.

Recently when I connect Iphone 4s and MacBook Pro my computer stopped see new photos on Dropbox.  I have changed iCloud password on Mac and Iphone, nothing.  Deleted some pictures of iPhone, didn't help.  Any ideas what I did to mess this up?

I cannot deleted.  Computer keep telling that my dropbox is open.  Don't see how to shot it off.  Do I need to delete all pictures from dropbox first and delete application after.  Will I loose all these pictures? Usually, I copy all photos to iphoto app.

  • Have you exchanged a MacBook with dead pixels?

Everything was going smooth with my MacBook - too smooth...
My MacBook is developing dead pixels. I've had it for about 18 days and initially the display was perfect but now it seems that fabled mythical beast, the dead pixel monster, is eating my pixels.
Does anyone know what the official policy is for dead bright pixels? Has anyone actually exchanged a MacBook with dead pixels? If you did get yours exchanged how many dead pixels did it have?
Do you think I am better off to keep the MacBook for a while (wait untill the supply catches up a bit) and then return it - or do I need to deal with the issue within the first 30 days?

things were going smooth with my machine until the screen went black. not a doubt in my mind that the inverter was faulty. so that's a mfg. defect right.
the problem is that apple (like so many companies these days) does not want you bringing a dead/faulty product into their store to just "swap it out."
they're going to want you to send it in and all that fun stuff. normally i wouldn't care so much, but i'm now waiting on a technician to call me back and tell me what to do with the machine - and i'm traveling on friday. mbpro was supposed to be coming with me as it's loaded with all my work for a project. grrrrrr.

  • Macbook (A1185), with dead battery. Worth upgrading?

I have a white Macbook, from 2008 I believe. The model number is A1185. It is running 10.5.8. It has been extremely sluggish the last year or two and it gets very hot. It also would not power itself down and was stuck on the white screen with the spinning wheel. I'd always have to give it a hard shutdown. I cannot run the CS3 programs without pulling my hair out. I have 10.6, but haven't been able to upgrade it since it wont turn on. My goal is to upgrade the Macbook's RAM and get more HD space so I can eventually update to Lion and run CC. The battery stopped charging a long time ago, but it would stay powered if it was always plugged in. Then it started randomly turning itself off after 10 minutes or so. Now, it will not turn on at all with or without the power supply.
I really only need the Macbook a few Adobe CC programs, and of course a little bit of music, photos, and surfing the web. I don't hardly do anything with videos. The majority of my large design files and heavy use with Adobe programs will be on my iMac.
My question is, would it be worth buying a new battery so I can turn it on and upgrade the Macbook? If a new battery would even fix the issue, I am not sure it could handle any kind OS upgrade. Is it even possible, and less expensive than a new Macbook, to improve the Macbook's performance? Or am I better off, with less headache, retiring this laptop and getting a newer Macbook?
Sorry for sounding like such a newb. I am proficient with software, I just don't understand the hardware side...

+The light on the adapter cord was green when I attached it, but then went to orange.+
    that's ok/normal
+After about 10 minutes of charging, it would power up.+
i don't know. but it is normal if it follows my first theory; you tried to turn on the computer while it was dead so you pressed the power button to turn it on. it did not turn on so you checked battery and then plugged it in. light turned orange and charged the battery for a bit.
the computer was trying to turn on the whole time because you pressed the power button before but did not turn on yet because it did not have enough charge. when it had enough charge while it was charging it continued through its booting up process and powered up after 10 minutes of charging, give or take.
+Will a Macbook not power on with a just the ac hooked up?+
this is the part where I'm a little confused because it should. your macbook should turn on even with the battery gone. according to you the battery charged for a while meaning that the battery is still alive and not corrupt. this is not normal.
but there is a very rare occassion that I think occured to me. I was in a situation where the battery was COMPLETELY dried out and dead to the point where even the flashing light on the battery(indicating your battery needs charging) did not turn on. in this situation my battery took less than 1 or 2 minutes to start up, i don't know why it takes longer. as far as I know it should not take 10 minutes.
as long as the battery works its ok but you may want to check the battery health. you can do this by downloading coconutbattery or iStat(for your dashboard). the battery health indicates how much does your battery use the battery's full capability/capacity. if your battery health is low, you may want to buy a new battery.
    p.s. Merry Christmas!!!

  • Connect/backup Macbook with Dead Screen

    Hello,
My old 17" 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo has lost the connection to the screen (hardware is really shot, and top is separating from bottom). It could be a black screen of death, but I don't think so. I'be been on the road, and so my last backup was five months ago. There are files I'd like to backup from the old machine, and/or transfer to the new one.  The old macbook starts up fine, but no screen.
Is there anyway to have the new machine talk to the old one with a wired or wireless connection?  Running Yosemite on both.
    Thanks!

    Greetings tallhandsmstranger,
It sounds as though you would like to access files on your Macbook with a damaged display. If the computer is still functioning, you can connect it to an external display to use it. This would allow you to transfer your files to another Mac.

  • Connecting iPhone 4S to Macbook Pro via Wifi

I used to be able to connect my iPhone to my macbook over wifi allowing me to sync with itunes and use the 'Remote' app to control itunes. Now my iphone does not appear in itunes over wifi.
I have tried creating a network on my mac which allows me to connect over wifi but then I cannot connect to the internet.
So the question is how can I set up my iPhone to connect to my mac over wifi?
    Cheers

You can stop looking. That's not a Bluetooth profile that's available on iPhones.
Airdrop may do what you need.

  • Connecting iPhone 4 to MacBook Pro

I was trying to connect my iPhone to my macbook via bluetooth and I went through the bluetooth setup which was successful. Afterwards it does not connect and when i try connecting to my laptop through my phone it says my macbook is not supported. I was wondering if it has anything to do with my macbook being a older generation (not quite sure i bought it secondhand and can't find which generation it is) and not having the support with the new iPhone 4 or what. Any help is great!

The only thing you can do connecting any iPhone to any computer by bluetooth is tether. File transfer by bluetooth has never been supported. So, unless you're trying to tether, you can quit trying as your phone & computer won't pair.

  • IPhone 6 shuts down with 40% battery life

    Hello,
I have an iPhone 6 (64 GB) on T-Mobile running iOS 8.0.2 that shuts off when the battery indicator says about 40%.  I could be using it like normal, then it just shuts down and flashes the red battery logo and tells me to plug it in.  It comes right back on when connected to power and then it is good to go.  I haven't tried to run it back past 40%, again, but the phone consistently powers down around the 40% mark.
I set up the phone with an import from my iPhone 5S and I got into the "death spiral", where the phone was stuck in a constant reboot unless I did the hard restart (power and home button until the phone restarted).  I think I fixed that by deleting the apps that were loaded from my 5S backup and installing them fresh from the app store.
I am restoring the phone right now and will load the backup from the iPhone 6.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Thanks,
    Matt

It could be an issue with the battery calibration. I would go threw with the restore, set the device up as new, then restore from the backup. If that does not work then it is hardware related and most likely a battery issue. If you have an Apple Retail Store near you could take it in there for battery replacement, or you could call Apple Care and they have mail in options. You will want to make an appointment for the Apple Retail Store if you choose to go that route.

  • IPhone 5 shutting down with 20% battery life left

My iphone 5 is turning off with 20% battery life showing. I've done all the updates. When I plug it in, battery life immediately jumps to 30% left. Any clues? It's not overheating and usually I'm just typing a text message. It's shut down twice now as I try to send a picture with the message. Thanks in advance for any help.

This usually means that your battery gauge needs to be calibrated. Apple actually recommends doing this on a monthly basis, but the advice is buried in the battery info tiphttp://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html.
What you need to do given your current problem: When the phone shuts off and it isn't down around 1%, connect to a charger for just a minute or 2, or wait 15 minutes, then reboot the phone (hold HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears). Continue running the battery down until it shuts off around 1%. If it goes off above that value repeat the above process until you really do get to 1% (this will rarely take more than 2 tries).
Once it has turned off and won't restart or reboot charge it with the wall charger for 4 hours without using the phone. This should fix the problem for the moment. Going forward, about once a month run the battery all the way down and charge for 4 hours. This should prevent the problem from recurring.
If this does not work your battery may be failing. As it's still in warrantly take it to an Apple store for repair."
I am having the same problems with my phone and found this discussion last night and tried to follow this procedure but I could not get my phone to turn on and run down to 1%. It shut itself off from 15%-7% almost instantly. I rebooted it as recommended by others and turned it on and let it shut off until it got down to 7% then it would no longer turn on. even after sitting for a little while. I have charged my phone to full overnight with the charger that it came with and will wait to see if the problem persists. I am very frustrated with this and found out that my phone is a few days outside the 1 year warranty. If anyone has had this situation and found a fix without getting a new phone, please let me know.

  • Connecting Z-5500 to MacBook with Optical Cable?

How's it going, first post here just need one question answered. I just got Logitech's Z-5500 for Christmas, and everything is set-up working great with just using the headphone jack. All speakers are working when in Stereo (x2) mode, but I would like to connect the system to my Macbook using the an optical cable since you get a cleaner, better quality of sound.
I don't know anything about optical cables or how to connect it to my Macbook. I know the optical side of the cord goes in the back of the control panel for the Z-5500's but where does the other side go into the Macbook? Do I just need one cable? Any detailed help with links will help. Thanks a lot.

    Picked this up.

  • IPhone 5 shuts down with the battery at 40%

I'm having issues with my iPhone 5. It regularly shuts down with the battery being far from 0%. When I took it to the apple store, a "genius" said that the battery is fine and restored the phone to the factory settings. I set it up as new without touching the backup (with iOS 8), but the iPhone keeps shutting down with a half charged battery. If anythings, the problem only became worse with iOS 8.1. I would appreciate any suggestions on how to fix it.
The iPhone is out of the warranty and is not eligible for battery replacement. Another issue I have is that the home button often responds with a delay, but I don't know if it's related to the main problem.
    Thanks

Here's the battery info from iBackupBot:
    CycleCount: 368
    DesignCapacity: 1430
    FullChargeCapacity: 1200

  • I want to sync my iphone, ipad, and macbook with the same username and password, is this possible

i want to sync my ipad, iphone, and macbook with the same username and password.  is this possible and if so, how do i do it?

You mean with the same iCloud account?
If so, yes this is possible by accessing the iCloud account with the Mail.app on your Mac and with the iPad and iPhone Mail app. This allows for keeping server stored email account mailboxes synced between all three, syncing contacts, calendar events, notes, and Reminders synced between all three, and the same with the iCloud Photo Stream. In addition, you can have music, books, and apps purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store with one device automatically downloaded on the other devices.

  • IPhone 5 shuts down with 20% battery remaining

I apologize if this issue has been discussed already. It's a hard topic to find because I do not have an issue with my battery draining fast (it's what mostly come up when I try the search) but it's just that, as of late, my phone shuts down when I have about 20% of the battery remaining. I am out of warranty by only a month, this seems to have started with iOS 7.

I wonder if the issue was the cold weather. I was trying to get the phone to discharge per your suggestion and it lasted for an entire day! I am now starting to think that maybe while the phone sat in my car the cold would make the battery discharge faster and kill it. Anyway, I charged it to a full charge without disconnecting just to make sure. Seems to be working fine now.
