Connecting iphone to home wireless

hello! ^_^
I've been searching for an answer to my question before posting, but i'm getting a little desperate so i thought i'd try here..There was a post about something similar to this but i wasn't sure if this was exactly what he ment and the answer was only "no" so i wasn't 100% sure >_<
Anywho, i wanted to get an iphone on the cheapest plan with optus which currently for the 3gs has only like 100mb data allowance, which i KNOW i will go over since i download alot of stuff, but my home broadband data plan with TPG is 50gig/month.
- Am i able to connect my iphone to my home network and not use ANY of the 100mb on the phone plan?so it uses up my 50gig instead..
So i can just download all the music/games/apps (Bigger files) at home and never go over the 100mb, cept maybe facebook and checking a few other things that don't use much when i'm not at home?
-Also will being with TPG at home and optus on my iphone make a difference or prevent me from being able to do it like this?
Thank you for your time! If this is possible then i will definately get an iphone, whether it's the 3Gs or iphone 4. Would definately prefer the 4 but going to have to wait and see the price/plans first ^_^

You're welcome.
With cellular data or internet access turned off and wi-fi access turned on, the only internet connection your iPhone can have is via an available wi-fi network only.
The option to turn cellular data or internet access off will be available with firmware update 4.0 to be released for the iPhone 3G and 3GS on 6/21.
The option to turn cellular data or internet access off is not available at this time. This will be a new feature included with firmware update 4.0. Firmware version 4.0 will be pre-installed on the iPhone 4. If you purchase a 3GS instead that shipped with the current firmware version pre-installed, you can install firmware update 4.0 on the 3GS, which will be released on 6/21.

  • TS1398 I can no longer connect to my home wireless on my ipad2, have done all the suggested fixes, still cannot connect.  Daughter cannot connect her iPod, but husbands laptop is connected to wireless.

All of a sudden my ipad will not connect to our home wireless.  I have reset the wireless settings, turned my ipad off and back on, turned off wireless and back on, basically have done all of the fixes suggested and still I cannot connect.  My daughter cannot connect her iPod either, but my husbands laptop can and is connected to our wireless.  The wireless is working and until two days ago I had no problems connecting.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

I have an eMac which I want to connect to my home wireless network. My router is D-Link - 601 tech. 802.11n. My eMac is wireless ready but does not contain an airport card. Do I need a card and an airport station? What else?

You need the Airport card OR Airport Express but not both.  Considering the age of your machine, I recommend Airport Express as you will find other uses for it whenever you replace the eMac.
To set up the AE, you do need OSX 10.4 or higher.

  • This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of server

This past month I have been having problems connecting to my home wireless connection. I have a MacBook Pro OSX Version 10.6.8. Previously I had no problems whatsoever. I have tried unplugging the wireless router, turning off the wirless airport, deleting the network name from my list of servers and trying to reconnect this way. These methods have worked temporarily, but the same problem keeps coming back. Most of the time my personal wireless connection does not even come up among the list of available networks. My fellow flatmates have PCs and both of them are able to connect to the network without problem.
The router is a d-link model DIR-615. I am not tech savy, so if any other information need to be provided in order to better understand my situation, please let me know.
    Please help me!

If I open the list of networks in a window it says "connection timeout," but if I just select it from the drop down it tries for awhile and then stops with no prompt. When I try to run network diagnostics it says "sorry, we can't connect to the internet" (or some solution-free variation of that)

  • Trouble connecting IPhone to my wireless network

I have recently experienced problems connecting my Iphone to my wireless network. I have had the phone for 3 months and this problem has only come up recently. Previously I had no problems connecting, and my girlfriend's Iphone can still get onto my network. I searched everywhere for an answer but most of them involved altering the router settings and since my gf's Iphone still connects, I don't believe it has anything to do with my router and or it's settings. I have reset my Iphone network settings before to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hello jesse_222,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards.
Since your girlfriend's iPhone connects to the network OK, then it's probably not a configuration or security settings issue with your wireless network.
You mentioned you've reset network settings on the iPhone, have you also updated the iPhone to the current 2.2.1 software?
Have you actually powered the iPhone off (not just putting it to sleep) since this issue began?
Are you using any type of carrying case on the iPhone? One with a magnetic component?
Intermittent connectivity can be caused by cached data on your WiFi router or modem.
Try power cycling both your WiFi router and modem by actually removing the main power cord from both for several minutes (5 minutes will successfully reset all but the most stubborn device). Power up the modem first and wait until the LEDs are done with their startup dance. Power up the WiFi router.
If you have a VoIP modem from your cable company, it may have a backup battery inside that will prevent the modem from resetting even with main power removed. That battery is generally installed under a cover on the modem. Check with your ISP for information on removing the battery if that is the case.
Out-of-date firmware on your WiFi router can cause similar behavior. If you have a combination modem/WiFi router from your ISP, check with them for any firmware updates.
If all of the above do not resolve the issue, you may need to restore your iPhone:

  • HT1695 I have owner my iPad for approx six months. I have been connected to the Internet from my home thru my Wifi with no problems. Suddenly four days ago I have not been able to get my IPad to connect to my home wireless. All other computers in my home

To follow up on my question. Only because this is the first time I am using this forum.
I have owned the iPad for approximately six months.
I have been using the iPad at home thru my wireless network, no problems.
In addition to my IPad I connect to the intent with my laptop, and my cell phone. No problem.
Suddenly approximately five days ago I have not been able to connect my IPad to the Internet. Laptop and cell phone still connect.
However when I leave my home I am able to connect my IPad from the Public Library and from Starbucks.
Can anyone give me some advice on how to get connected from my home.
Not sure how or when I can expect a response to this problem.
    Thanks
    Bill
    <Email Edited by Host>

Thanks, however I am not familiar with the Sleep and Homekey buttons on my IPad.
What I plan to do when I get home from Starbucks is, Settings/general/Reset/reset network
I have rebooted my router no luck.
Am I missing something on not knowing about the Sleep and Homekey?
    Thanks,
    Bill

  • Need help connecting to my home Wireless Network

I need help connecting my LaserJer M1212nf MFP to my home wirless network. I would like to use Apple's AirPrint, and be able to print from my iPad.
I've spent a few hours following the directions I found on the manuals through hp.com and I've had no luck. I've already unistalled and reinstalled the printer. I've also updated the firmware. If anyone can provide assistance I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

This is NOT a wireless printer (see product spec: http://www.shopping.hp.com/shopping/pdf/ce841a.pdf), you can NOT add the printer to the wireless network. This printer do support LAN connection, so if your wireless router has LAN ports, you can added it to your home network by connecting a network cable from the printer to a LAN port on the router. You need then reinstall the printer as a network printer, to use airprint.

  • IPhone 4 with IOS 6 did not detecting the public wi-fi network but able to connect with my home wireless

iphone 4 after install the iOS 6 wi-fi networks are not detecting on public spot but working on home network. What is the reason for this/ any settings?

Is the firmware in the router up to date?
See here for the latest for v2.2: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT54G
Note: All these ideas are a bit lame since you say that some iPhone 5s are connecting OK and they running the same iOS level 6.1 and, i think, have the same Broadcom WiFi chip BCM4334.
All devices are running iOS 6.1 right not 6.0.1, or 6.0.2?
You might want to try your iPad mini on some other WiFi networks to see how it fares there.

  • HT1695 My iPhone 5 will not connect to my home wireless connection.  My ipad works fine.  Now the forget this network and renew lease buttons are gone.  I have several things.  Now it won't even sync to iTunes.  Do I need to go to the apple store?

Phone will not connect to wireless.  It's been giving me no service this week too.  The apple store is 45 minutes away and I really don't want to go.  Do I need to go there?

Have you reset the phone by holding the home and off button down until the apple symbol comes up? Then if that doesnt work, you need to restore your phone in itunes first from your backup, then if still not, then fron as new.

  • HT4199 Can no longer connect to my home wireless network

I've had my iphone over a month now with no problems.  All of a sudden, it cannot connect to my wireless network at home.  I have tried everything recommended from shutting down and restarting my phone to resetting my network connections.  Nothing is working.  There really is no troubleshooter that I can find so what do I do now??

You are officially my new hero!!  It worked, thank you so much.  There seems to be many people here with the same problem but this is the first time I have seen your suggestion.  It would be nice if Apple had it somewhere in with all of their suggestions that DON'T work....
    Thanks again!

  • Connecting iPhone to home network?

I was wondering whether using the internet on the iphone through my home network will be shown in my phone bill? Cause I heard it doesn't cost for the phone if I'm using wireless connection on the iPhone or wifi.
But I just wanted to make sure before I connect my phone to my home network that my mum doesn't freak out when she sees the phone bill.
And what if I'm connecting to networks in cafes like Starbucks, maccas, the local library or my school, will it be costing me or the network provider?

In the wifi settings of the iPhone, you should be able to choose your network. It should then ask for the password to your network. Enter your password and it should join it. Additionally, software updates actually need to be done by connecting your iPhone to your computer and iTunes. Have you connected your iPhone to your computer yet?

  • Imac download (affecting ipad and iphone in home wireless)

I bought an imac 21.5 inch desktop yesterday and hooked it up to my bigpond 7.2 home network gateway wireless with ethernet. downloads are slow, internet pages are slow and some downloads just time out. the ipad and iphone downloads in the house are also affected by this since the imac was bought. very frustrated. any HELP appreciated

I don't use iTunes for audiobooks, I prefer Audible. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, I don't beleive AuidoBooks can be re-downloaded or appear in the iTunes Store Purchased list. You will have to connect the iPad to iTunes on a computer where you can "Transfer Purchase" to the computer's iTunes Library then sync it to the iPhone.
I'm not sure I know what you mean by iTunes on the iPhone. The iTunes Store is labeled the same "iTunes" name in iOS 6 on both the iPhone and the iPad. Similarly audiobooks will appear in the Music app on both devices once an audiobook is synced to it.

  • X230 connecting to my home wireless network

I recently purchased a x230.  I am unable to connect to the internet at home.  I can connect at work using WPA2.  I can also connect at my local coffee bean but at home I'm unable to connect.  I'm using a netgear wireless router if that helps.

  • I am new to IPod touch and really enjoying it.  BUT.  All of a sudden I am unable to connect to my home wireless network nor any hot spots.  Did not have any trouble in 1st month and yet something seems to have changed.  Any suggestions as to what ?

I am new to IPod Touch and enjoying but all of a sudden (after about a month of connection) I am unable to connect to either my home wirless or hotspots outside of home.  It would appear that a setting has changed but have no idea how to determine.  Any suggestions ?

NO I did not and thank you very much for the advice.  My problem was stated incorrectly in that while I am able to connect to the wireless from that point on I am unable to connect to the internet.  I will check the article referred to.
