Connecting iPhone to Mac auto opens iTunes?
I have an iPhone 3GS running under OS 3.0.1. I have iTunes 9.0. my question is:
Assume iTunes is not open. When I connect my iPhone via USB2 to the Mac, shouldn't iTunes, when the iPhone is plugged in, open automatically?
Previously iTunes opened when I plugged in the iPhone.
Thanks,
Tom
I just had a situation where it failed to launch iTunes, iPhoto etc. when I plugged in. The battery would not charge, either. However the battery charged fine from the little power brick.
Well, I tried entering DFU mode to do a restore. The restoration failed, and it is now officially dead, and I'm off to the Apple Store.
Here's the takeaway: prepare yourself for total phone failure. Notably, grab any key data off yur phone, and don't "try to troubleshoot the phone" in any way until you have a window of time where services you need will be available. In other words, mess with it at 9am Monday morning, not 9pm Friday night.

When i login to my mac, it opens iTunes, Skype and AIM. I've tried deleting these from the login items, but they are not on the list. Can anyone help?

If you do not lock that folder immediately after deleting all the contents, it will simply populate again (Resume - a "feature" in Lion). You do that by doing a Get Info (highlight folder and press Command + I keys), unlock the lock at the bottom, enter your admin password, then check the box to lock the folder. lock the lock and you're done.
Yes, that is correct. The alternative is to quit all applications prior to logging out. Lion will then have a chance to remove the saved states.

And, for the OP:
It has also been a regular feature of Mac OS to automatically open any window that was open at shutdown. To avoit that behavior, simply close any Finder windows and properly quit applications by closing their window and using Command + Q (or File >Quit).
This was true only for the Finder. Prior to Lion, no other apps would launch unless they were included in the Login Items for the account. And the OS would not restore windows for other apps.
A very small number of apps (TextWrangler is an example) implemented this capability prior to Lion. They could restore previously opened windows. But that is an application feature, and can be controlled by the application's preferences. Lion implements it at the system level, and users have virtually no control on a per application basis. -

Connecting iPod to PC, won't auto-open iTunes.
I've checked the "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected" (or something like it) box inside of my iTunes, when my iPod is connected. However, everytime I connect my iPod to my computer, it doesn't open iTunes. It opens the box as an external hard drive/flash drive, showing a few folders, but never opens iTunes.
Could someone please tell me how I can fix this problem?
Thanks!Try this. Go to start, click Run, and type
"msconfig" without the quotes. If the dot on the
first screen is set to "Normal startup", then
nevermind, but if it is set on "Selective startup",
then go the the "Startup" tab and make sure that
"iTunes Helper" is checked. iTunes helper is the
component that actually launches iTunes when an iPod
with the appropriate preference settings is connected.
That did it! Thank you so much, I really appreciate your help! I hope anyone else who has had this issue see this thread. Thanks again! -
I have some past purchases that show up on my "Purchased" list when I am on my computer (Windows Vista machine), but they do not appear in my Library - so I cannot simply drag the songs from Library to the iPhone when it is connected to the computer. Elsewhere on this site (specifically here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 ) I am told I can just open iTunes on my iPhone, click on the "Purchases" tab, tap the artist name, etc. to download to the iPhone. But without a "Purchase" tab (and I have checked in the "More" area to see if it is there), this is a pretty difficult task. (Also just as additional info, I am running iTunes 10.4.1.10 and have recently synced the iPhone.) Also my computer is the only "device" associated with the iTunes Cloud beta and, as an alternative (?), maybe I could figure out a way to "associate" the iPhone as well?

Connect iPhone to Mac via Bluetooth
It's taken me a while, but I would like to link my iPhone 5 to my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth. I've paired the devices (supposedly - selecting the Mac in iPhone's Bluetooth list only offers "forget this device" - no settings shown), but when on the Mac I click Bluetooth Browse Devices it shows the iPhone in the list, but then reports "no device found". And if I click "iPhone > connect to network" it reports an error connecting, and "make sure network access is enabled and available on your device."
So where do I enable network access on the iPhone? It's probably very simple, but I've hunted through Settings and can't find anything.
Thanks!
IanWell, I consider myself a rather advanced user and I gave up on this problem as soon as I encountered it. My iPhone is becoming more and more bothersome. Apple's instructions asking to refer to the phone manual, as if it was unaccessible to them, are a pain as well.
The thing is that Android, with all the variety of phones it handles, got this straight time ago. As a number of other things in which Apple is lagging behind more and more -among the important ones, conection to a folder structure, not to apps' folders.
I don't care about Apple's marketing strategies. The only thing that made me get an iPhone was to use apps (none of them made by Apple, by the way) in connection to my Mac. Now I am ready to move back to Android as soon as a few of those apps make Android versions. And I may as well even if not. I know both systems and, in my opinion, not only the OS but some terminals have been better than Apple's for a while.
The only thing that hooks me to Apple for the time being is OS X, but to be happy with the price of its hardware I want spotless performance. Not public performances of their top executives nor economic performance of their stocks in the stockmarket, but spotless performance of my tools, in case this is not clear, as it seems not to be! -
My iphone 5 can not be connected with my Mac Pro with bluetooth.
