Connecting ipod nano after you "restore" your computer

I had to do a restoration on my computer after I was hit with some virus. Unfortunately I forgot to externally save my music files. Therefore, after the restoration on my computer was complete, all my music files were erased. My questions is this…..If I were to now connect my ipod nano to my computer, would it erased all the files I have on my ipod nano since they were erased on the computer during the restoration? What are my options? Any and all help is appreciated.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

If you are having any problems with your PC, or even problems with your browsers, you can always choose to restore your system to an earlier date. Please read this thread for further details.

If you are having problems with Firefox only but not your PC, you can just follow cor-el's instruction to do a clean reinstall instead. If you decide to do a System Restore, and having problems with Firefox afterward, follow cor-el's instructions also to fix the problem.

I restored my iPod Touch and I didn't realize I would lose all my photos. I thought they would be on iTunes..... Is there any way of getting them back?? I had some pretty special pictures on there.

Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and see if you have a backup . Look at the date to see if it would have the photos.

I restored my iphone because I have hundreds of apps and wouldn't want to delete them. Well I don't want to exactly permanently delete them. I just want them off my iphone as it makes it laggy and kills the battery. So I backed it up. However, I am wondering if I can restore them after settting the iphone as a new iphone. Just use Itunes to mark which apps you want on the phone and which you don't. No need to wipe the phone as Itunes is an wasy way to manage your apps.

          and Home buttons.
     3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device.
         The device should turn on. Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device
         charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then
         start with step 2 again.
     4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
         When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
     5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:

1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
3. Check the USB cable
4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.

Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.

Yes, do not set it to automatic sync, and if these albums are purchases in iTunes, then you need to transfer them to your iTunes library. If you attempt to sync the device the music sync is one way, only from the library to the device. If this is music you did not purchase, but is on the iPod, you will need to get some 3rd party software to extract it from the iPod to put in the library. Touchcopy from Wide Angle Software is one choice. I have used it before and it does a lot more than music, and it works on both the Windows and Mac platforms.
