Connecting ipod quits itunes.
I just switched from pc to mac and was just switching my ipod doing a full restore. after the ipod restored and itunes reopened it automatically quit itunes. Itunes works fine when my ipod is disconnected. but itunes doesn't even stay open long enough for me to click on update or restore it force quits immediately. any ideas????
Just like in the separate thread I started earlier this morning: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1072304&tstart=0
Short version, when I connect the iPod, iTunes sits there a moment then it crashes with a message saying "iTunes has unexpectedly quit, you can restart the application, if the issue persists, please report this issue to apple." With the buttons “Report this to apple” and “reopen application”. If you choose “reopen application” the same error message prompts on the screen, only the buttons have changed to say “try again” and “report this to apple” with the message “if you choose try again, the application will be temporarily restarted with the default settings to see if the problem is resolved.” If you choose “Try again” the application closes again and you get the original error message again, stuck in a loop.
Though if you run iTunes without connecting the iPod, it runs with no issues. And the iPod also runs with no issues when not connected. (I also ran the basic diagnostics using the select + “previous” at restart of the iPod, passed with no issues.) I installed 7.3.2 when it was released (which I believe was Monday) and the iPod connected just fine 2-3 times until last night.

Connect Ipod to Itunes Message
My ipod's battery died on me while I was on vacation about 3 days ago. At the time I had no means of charging it, but when I returned home I attempted to charge it on my PS3 (I have done this many times and it usually works fine). When I turned my ipod on it displayed the 'connect ipod to itunes' message (a usb plug with an arrow pointing at the itunes symbol). However, I can't connect my ipod to itunes because it is locked. I can't enter my passcode on my ipod because it is frozen on the 'connect ipod to itunes' screen. This has happened to me once before but I didn't have a passcode for my ipod at the time, so I was able to access it on itunes and fix whatever was wrong. Any suggestions?
you need to force recovery mode on the ipod and then restore it.
that screen means the ipod found something wrong with itself and you need to restore anyways
when the ipod is not connected to the computer, hold down the sleep/wake button and slide to power off.
once the ipod is off, hold down the home button and do not let it go!
plug the ipod into the computer and open itunes. you should get a message stating itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode.
once you see that let go of the home button, click ok on the message then click restore in itunes. -
i forgot my passode to my ipod and im trying to restore it. i went through some steps. says connect ipod to itunes then when i connect box comes up n says i have to unlock my passcode to my ipod which i dont know. i thknk its lock now. want come back up to the passcode screen

My screen had a black out and since then, my ipod touch is not getting started. it just shows ' connect ipod to itunes'. Even after doing that, my Itouch doesn't appear anywhere in Itunes. Help !! ??
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

My computure krashed and all music is gone. Now when i reinstalled iTunes and are connecting my iPod it says that the iPod are connected to another library, and that i can chose between write over all songs in my iPod with the song in my new library (which is zero) or dont connect to iTunes at all. Is there any way that i can transfer all songs in my iPod to the new library? or just transfer them to the computure?
Windows XPDO NOT attach & sync your full iPod to an empty iTunes!!!
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
PodPlus Software (Windows)
TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
1 - Open iTunes
2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to ‘Manually manage songs & playlists’ – click ‘OK’
6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough and frequent backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

Connecting ipod through itunes deletes my new playlists
Occasionally when I connect my ipod to my computer my new playlists, created through on the go, get deleted. This happens probably 2/3 times I connect my ipod to itunes. I have my music checked as manually managed so I don’t know why it’s messing why my lists. It is the most frustrating thing, as about half my playlists have been deleted. Itunes also likes to delete my playlists and make random new ones called ‘on the go’. It recently deleted my 6 new playlists of probably 200 tracks. Itunes, why are you such a piece of crap?
I’m not finding any other posts on this, and I don’t know what to do at all. Should I get another program to manage my ipod music? I never use itunes except for my ipod.
ehhhhh???You'll find instructions in this article "Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod" http://playlistmag.com/help/2005/01/2waystreet/

Looong pause when connecting ipod and itunes,,,
Made a mistake last night, and reinstalled XP. I had to in order to fix system problems. Both ipod and itunes both were working fine, After reinstall and fresh install of 7.5 itunes, now when I open itunes and connect the ipod there is a looooong pause before it is seen and I can use itunes, or even XP. I may try to uninstall 7.5 and reinstall 7.4.3 and cross my fingers. Seriously tempted to get a 5.5g to skip all these pita bugs.

Connecting iPod freezes iTunes
When I connect my iPod, first the computer has the camera/data thing pop-up, but after, iTunes doesn't reconize there is an iPod and then when I manually click "sync (iPod name)" iTunes freezes up. What is wrong? I've ran the diagnostic tests and it says everything is working. What can be done?

Connecting iPod freezes iTunes + Firefox
Problem started this morning. every time i connect my ipod, my itunes freezes immediately as does my firefox. if i leave my ipod plugged in for more than a minute, my computer crashes and restarts.
I've tried reformatting my ipod, uninstalling itunes, reinstalling itunes, restarting my ipod; just about everything i can think of. i plugged in my newer ipod shuffle and my computer recognizes it immediately and i'm able to sync music.
I would appreciate any help, so that i might use my ipod instead of wanting to throw it in the oven.Welcome to the discussions,

I tried to connect ipod tocuh to windows xp laptop but cant get it to be recognized by itunes and it has problems connecting to the computer itself.it can connect to the other laptop though.
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
Are these requirements met ?
Is the PC virus-free ?
is XP at SP3 ?
Has it any other issues with USB hardware in general ? -
