Connecting iPod to hifi system

I have a hifi dock but the iPod is in a leather case. I can't plug it in to the dock without taking it out of the case because the whole package is too thick, but the case is a very tight fit which makes removing the iPod from the case quite difficult.
So what I would like to find is a connector with a male iPod plug at one end and a female one at the other so I can just plug the thing into the dock without taking it out of the case - but I can't track one down anywhere. Does anyone know where I could get one?
Thanks, Richard

Yes, brilliant! That's the very thing I was looking for, thank you!
Oddly, it doesn't seem to be available in the UK - in practice, because in theory (according to SoundStation's website), there are two UK resellers. And, although it shows up on their site, Amazon UK says it's "not available." Very odd, but I've ordered one in from the USA.

  • Connecting Ipod to PA System Amp

I am a bit new to PA systems and amps, so I was wondering if the following setups would work
    a. Using a 1/4in to 1/4 in. MONO cable, connect one end into a channel on the amp and another end into the ipod using a 1/4 to 1/8 adaptor.
    b. Using a 1/8 to 1/8 in. STEREO cable, connect one end into the headphone output of the ipod and the other end into the amp using a 1/8 to 1/4 adaptor.
In both situations, the output on the ipod is stereo and the input on the amp is mono.
    Thanks.

I am having the same problem and yes, my instruction booklet states that my automobile is capable of this. When I connect, nothing happens.

  • Connecting iPod to audio system on new Honda Accord

I tried to connect my eight-year-old iPod to the audio system on a new Honda Accord and got the message "Unsupported."  The instructions on how to do this are not complex.  Any idea why my iPod shows up as unsupported, other than its age?  Any solutions?

Possibly age.  I just looked up "A1136" and that seems to be a 5th gen iPod (the "iPod video").  It's old, but that model was often the cut-off for support (for being supported).  The only way to find out what your car's audio system officially supports is to find the specificaltions.
If the car audio system has a mini-stereo jack as an aux. audio input, you can connect your iPod from the headphones jack to the aux. input using something like this
    http://www.amazon.com/Monster-iCable-Player-Auxiliary-Input/dp/B002AR5XIK
For an older iPod, that may be a better way to connect it, because it is simple.  There is no interaction between car system and iPod taking place.  The iPod just needs to play music like always, except it is playing through the car system instead of through your headphones.

  • Connecting Ipod to mono system

Has anyone tried connecting their Ipod to an mono amplifier? Specifically, I'm looking to make a connection from a 1/8" stereo male to a mono 1/4" male. The right & left speaker leads would be connected (shorted) at the 1/4" jack.
I've read the user manuals regarding connecting to stereos, and it says nothing about connections to mono systems.
Does anyone know if this will damage the Ipod's amplifier?

I am having the same problem and yes, my instruction booklet states that my automobile is capable of this. When I connect, nothing happens.

  • Connecting iPod causes major system slowdown

I bought the iPod a week ago, and this behaviour has been consistent from the first time I plugged it into the Windows XP SP2 computer. When the iPod is plugged in, the service "iPodService.exe" starts up and then the entire computer grinds to a halt. I've looked at the Task Manager and noticed that both "iPodService.exe" and "Services.exe" are tying up all available resources. If I choose "iPodService.exe" and end the process, "Services.exe" immediately drops to 0% and the system goes back to a normal level of functioning and responsivness. Ending iTunes doesn't seem to cause "iPodService.exe" to release, which is why I had to force the ending of that process.
Any suggestions are really welcome. I don't think that I should be having to go through this everytime I want to update/charge the iPod.

    Hi,
Try to restore your iPod to the factory setting with iTunes 7, if does not work, likely there may be some problems on your OS. And you may need to reinstall the XP on your PC again.
But before doing these, please try to connect your iPod with other PC, see if it causes the same problem

  • Tried to connect ipod to sound system via USB and asked to format. Pls Help

I have tried to connect my ipod to the dvd system via USB port. It asked me to format the ipod and i pressed yes and than instantly plugged the ipod out [realized what i did]. anyway the meessage on the scereen was that I had to connect it to the pc and itunes to resolve the problem. When i connected Itunes asked me to restore it. I know that if i restore than i will lose all my music. Is there is any other way to fix it?
Thank you very much I really appreciate your help.

Restoration is relatively simplistic. Here's whatcha do. Plug your ipad in, open itunes, now if itunes doesn't recognize it then you may have a problem, anywho, click on the ipad in the devices interface and go to the info tab, click restore, and it'll be just like it was when it left the factory. To get you data back, it should ask if you would like to use a backup, just select the backup you want and you'll be good to go. That is if you regularly backed up your iPad.

  • Playing iPod through hifi system

I have a mini stereo jack connected from the auxiliary output of my stereo system which I plug into the iPod to play through the amp and big speakers. This worked fine when I was synced via my PC but now that I have changed it to Mac the sound is massively distorted. What gives?
    Terry

OK, sorted it myself. I remembered that to play it previously I had to use the phono out jacks, which I thought odd at the time. Changed the leads over to the DAT out and it works fine. I don't know if this represents a difference between the two systems, or whether it's just one of those little mysteries peculiar to my case.

  • Connecting iPod via HRT-iStreamer to HiFi system

I have read several articles about audio streamer that are supposed to improve the quality of sound of an iPod, iPad etc.,when playing on a HiFi-system.
I am talking about the "High Resolution Technologies iStreamer" which is, so I have read, approved by Apple.
I have two question on this topic:
    1. Does it actually improve the quality of sound? (my iPod is connected via the official Apple docking station. The MP3 files used are mostly 192kBit or higher)
    2. Does the apple remote control still work when connected via the HRT-iStreamer?
Would appreciate any info on the above.
    Thanks - Fritz

Not sure about the "approved by Apple", usually all you get is the "Works with iPhone", or iPod compatibility sticker.
If it reduces jitter it will improve the quality of sound if the source material is at high resolution, say WAV, or AIFF, or perhaps Apple Lossless. For MP3 files at 192 I doubt you would be able to tell any difference at all. It should not interfere at all with your remote.
If you want to put high resolution material on your iPod and get the highest level of sound you can, I would recommend this: http://www.wadia.com/products/transports/171i/design.php

  • What is the best way to connect a MacBook Pro to my HiFi system ?

    Hi,
I'm new to Apple support communities having just bought my first Macbook Pro (a 17" 2.5GHz i7 model) and this is my very first community post.
Im a bit of a Hi-Fi enthusiast, so, with my new MacBook Pro I've taken the opportunity of completely reloading my iTunes library in high quality Apple Lossless format. Took a while but now I've completed the task Im pleased I've done it.
My question is, what is the best way to connect a Macbook Pro to a high quality Hi-Fi preamp - my Hi-fi system is musical Fidelity, and the pre amp (an A5  CR Pre amp) and this pre amp, which has superb audio quality, only has analogue phono inputs ?
I'm interested to understand what both the wired and wireless connection options are. I'm guessing one option must be to use the headphone output, but I have no idea if the output from the headphone socket on my new macbook (which is presumably designed to drive headphones) would be at a suitable level for a phono line level input ?
Ive also read a few comments about using digital connection - and my second question would be - what is the audio digital connection on my macbook ?
Aplogies if this question has been asked lots of times before but I've looked through some previous posts and can't find any answers in simple and straightforward language concentrating on the issue of connecting a MacBook Pro to an analogue phono pre amp input ?
Thanks in anticipation of some advice.

What is the best way to connect a MacBook Pro to my HiFi system?
Look at the back of the reciever and see what your connection options are, the front headphone jack is output usually.
The Mac's  analog audio in/out ports doubles as a optical in/out ports.
The analog won't over power your amp, it's just a headphonejack, like a powered mic, just enough power to get the signal to the destination in one piece.
Since you have a analog amp, your stuck with inferior analog connections, however you mentioned you wish to listen to the best sound quality of your lossless music.
To do that your going to need a decent surround sound system with Toslink optical import jacks, a Toslink stereo jack to regular Toslink adapter, Toslink cable and enable the optical output in your System Preferences >Sound
Another method is to use a Airport Express, it also has duo analog/opical out port. Then set up the Airport Express for iTunes streaming using the Airport Utility, then in iTunes setup the lower right corner one can set the connection.
I recommned a Harmon Kardon surround sound system, with their 100 watt satelight speakers and the 200 watt subwoofer. Enable the "concert hall" and other neat effects which will turn your 2.0 (stereo) iTunes music into 4 channel speaker sound filling the room with music and sending the lower channels to the subwoofer.
It will likely bring tears to your eyes that you can actually hear the full quality of your music as intended, I almost quarranty you will never want listen to music on a crappy iPhone or iPod again.
If a surround sound system is out of your budget, you can get by using the Harmon Kardon "Go Play" portable stereo and a analog stereo cable.
If your going to use your analog amp to power reference speakers, then there are various analog adapters of all sorts to make the appropriate connections once you know what they are, check out Radio Shack online for them.

  • Using iPod with HiFi mini system

    I own a 60G iPod Photo.
I purchased a Hitachi DAB Hifi Mini System today with a USB port, believing that I would be able to play my choice of music from my iPod via the unit.
However when I connect my to the HiFi's USB port, the iPod displays the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen, and my HiFi plays songs from my iPod apparently at random. I can skip through tracks using the remote, but again the HiFi skips through artists/ albums/ tracks at random, so I have very little control over what I am listening too.
Do you think this is just a limitation to the HiFi system, or is there something I can do to my iPod/ HiFi so that I might choose what I listen to?
    Many thanks,
    RM

Most of Yamaha's A/V receivers can be accessorized with an adapter dock (YDS-10) that makes your iPod fully capable through the receiver. Music sounds great, and an iPod video allows you to watch movies on yout TV with decent quality. I have the lowe-end HTR-5960 with 7.1 and an 80GB iPod Video and I'm not at all disappointed.

  • How to connect my apple TV to an analogue ampli / hifi system

Hello, i have been looking for an answer to this question for quite some time.
I would like to stream my music on my hifi system using apple TV as an airport express.
I found out that this was possible by connecting the apple TV through the optical port to my hifi system.
My ampli has only analague RCA ports. Is there a way to link these two with a good quality? I found "Digital to analogue converter" on the web but will it work? which brand should i choose to get a good quality?
    thank you very much

You can use the remote app on iPhone but that would require home sharing to be setup and both on the same network. If that's not the case you will need a new remote.

  • How can you connect Ipod to a linux system?

Bought our study abroad student an Eee PC computer that will work well in his home country of Africa. My boys got Ipods for Christmas and I gave him one too. We are unable to find a way to get it to connect to his linux system. Is is possible?? It is an Ipod Nano 4th generation. Thanks!

The iPod is designed to work with iTunes however is no version of iTunes for Linux so there's no simple answer to your question. You'd be much more likely to find a possible solution by posting in one of the many Linux discussion websites. Linux Questions would be a good place to start, you'll find the forum at this link: LinuxQuestions.org

DId it happen after you did anything to the iPod or car system like updateing the iPod's iOS?
    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • 10GB iPod w. Firewire and connecting to iVoice sound system

I have a relatively old iPod with row of four touch button controls above the track wheel. It was purchased in Dec 04 and I believe it's a third generation iPod. It connects to my iMac via a Firewire connection.
When I dock it into the iVoice speaker system the controls freeze and the battery doesn't charge. I first tried a Magnavox system and returned it after experiencing the same problem.
Is it possible that all of the speaker systems available today are only compatible with the newer iPods with USB connection
Or, is there a solution to this problem besides upgrading to a newer generation iPod?

Found out that my iPod was the last version with a firewire connection and the sound systems on the market today only support iPods with the USB 2.0 connection
