Connecting ipod to mac after using windows

I had a windows xp computer that crashed and lost everything on hard drive. I was using an Ipod (serial # YM619Q49TJT) with the windows xp computer that is now dead, but my ipod still has all of audio music saved on it. I just purchased a Macbook laptop (Leopard 10.5.5 operating system). Is it possible to transfer audio files from my ipod to the new mac without losing all my files on my ipod. I found many articles that show you how to use ipod as a hard drive to transfer audio files from one hard drive to another, but the original computer is existing and in my case I don't have the original computer. I am also not sure if there will be an issue with my ipod first being formatted with a windows xp operating system and now moving the files to a Leopard Operating system?
Daphne

Daphne,
Quite alright, as for the music transfer you can still use said way as before.
Using your ipod as a disk to move music is really only good if you have the original hard drive to use. You must copy the files onto your ipod in a different manner then that of iTunes. Example You would open my computer drag the files 'including music' to your ipod. You would then plug your ipod to your mac, it will mount a little ipod icon on your desktop, you would then drag the files off of your ipod either into the correct music folder or (if you have it setup in itunes to copy to itunes music folder) right to itunes.
As for formated correctly Macs are more then capable of reading and writing to an ipod formated on Windows. However you will have a much smoother experience if you formate it to work with your mac.
Hope that helps,

  • Plugged Ipod into Mac after using Windows--Now Corrupted Please Help

    Ipod 1.2.1
My friend plugged it into his Mac, Ive been using it on my PC. It says its corrupted now when I plug it into the PC. I restore it and it says its restored but then the "do not disconnect" mac screen comes up (looks different than the do not disconnect pc screen), and when I try to restore it again, it wont recognize it. How can I fix this problem??

Sorry, it is a bit confused
Your iPod is a 3rd Generation (clickwheel) or (touch wheel),
    is it a dock connector?
You need to do the Reset:-
For clickwheel - Press select+menu keys
For touch wheel - Press Play/Pause+Meny buttons
until you see the apple logo
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer

  • [Forum FAQ] "Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell Remoting" error while installing RDS roles on Server 2012 R2

When you try to install RDS role on server 2012 R2 using standard deployment, this issue may occur (Figure 1).
“Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting”.
Figure 1: Unable to connect to the server by using Windows PowerShell remoting
First of all, we need to verify the configurations as it suggested:
    1. The server must be available by using Windows PowerShell remotely.
    2. The server must be joined to a domain.
    3. The server must be running at least Windows Server 2012 R2.
    4. The currently logged on user must be a member of the local Administrators group on the server.
    5. Remote Desktop Services connections must be enabled by using Group Policy.
In addition, we need to check if the “Windows Remote Management “service is running and related firewall exceptions have been created for WinRM listener.
To enabling PowerShell remoting, we can run this PowerShell command as administrator (Figure 2).
    Enable-PSRemoting -Force
    Figure 2: Enable PowerShell Remoting
However, if issue persists, we need to check whether it has enough memory to work.
By default, remote shell allots only 150 MB of memory. If we have IIS or SharePoint App pool, 150 MB of memory is not sufficient to perform the remoting task. Therefore, we need to increase
the memory via the PowerShell command below:
    Set-Item WSMan:\localhost\Shell\MaxMemoryPerShellMB 1000
Then, you need to restart the server and the issue should be resolved.
You can get more information regarding Remote Troubleshooting by below link:

i found another possible reason, this solution worked for me:
    http://oyvindnilsen.com/solution-for-powershell-remoting-error-it-cannot-determine-the-content-type-of-the-http-response-from-the-destination-computer/
I tried to set up powershell remoting on a server and kept getting this error:
Enter-PSSession : Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The WinRM client cann

er. The content type is absent or invalid. For more information, see the about_Remote_Troubleshooting Help to
    pic.
After a bit of troubleshooting I discovered that the problem was that the authentication packets was to big (over 16k), this will cause WinRM to reject the request. The reason for authentication packets getting too big can be because the user is member of very
many security groups or in my case because of the SidHistory attribute.
The solution was to increase the MaxFieldLength and MaxRequestBytes keys in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\HTTP\Parameters
If the keys does not exists you can create them, be sure to use the DWORD type.
I sat MaxFieldLength to DEC value 40000 and MaxRequestBytes to DEC value 32768 and rebooted the server. Problem solved.

    Is that possible ?

Strictly speaking using a Windows formatted iPod on a Mac isn't supported however many people use one without any issue. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac but Apple currently only supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac. This means you will have to make sure that any time there is a software update available you do this on a PC. If you updated the software while the iPod was connected to the Mac you would end up erasing and formatting the iPod for Mac.
If you only intend using the iPod on the Mac from now on, you could transfer your songs to the computer and then Restore the iPod on your Mac. Restoring will erase and reformat the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7
If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7 A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • How do I use my iPod on Mac after it was used on a PC?

For Christmas I received a MacBook Pro and I have an iPod that I have been using for the past 2 years with on my PC. Do I need to reset my iPod now that I will be using it on my mac? I want to avoid problems with the different configurations and such. thank you!

Macs can access and use Windows formatted iPods just fine. So if you prefer to use the iPod as is on the new Mac, you can plug it in and use it Windows formatted if you like. You will get a message about the iPod being synced to a different computer though, and do you want to erase the iPod and sync it with the Mac's iTunes library.

    Hi there:
You may be able to start up the Mac in such a way as to look
for an OS X volume at the same time using a keyboard comb-
ination at startup... Press key(s) immediately after start tone.
Press Option (opt) key during startup will start in Startup Manager
where you can select an OS X volume or network volume to run.
{There is also a way to choose a hardware test for diagnostic
purposes on startup, too. Some macs have features in the OS
    to include a 'recovery' mode on later models.}

PS: if you decide to remove Windows, you should also
consider Boot Camp to remove the partition it made.

I'm just trying to revive my old PowerPC G4/ dual 867MHz 512MB.  Unfortunately I am unable to install from disc since my optical drive, although still working, is somehow not able to read the leopard installer.  I wanted to try the remote install option but have limited resources and don't have a network where I can have both the Mac desktop and windows laptop communicate.  I read somewhere that I can use a crossover cable to connect the two directly.  I'm still trying to see if I can get an external DVD-ROM as another option.  Any suggestions?

Your Mac doesn't need a crossover cable, it auto-switches...

  • ITunes freezes when connecting iPod Touch - even after restored

    Hi,
I have an iPod Touch 32GB 4th generation, I have never had any problems with it until now.
Today I tried to connect it to my iTunes (on my MacBook Pro - late 2011 model) in order to sync it so that I could transfer some of my new music and iTunes would freeze. The mouse would pinwheel and I would have to force quit (it would not respond for over 30mins if left unattended). I created a new admin user and the itunes on the other user recognised the iPod just fine. I used the other user to restore my iPod in the hopes that when connected to my library again, it would be a 'new' ipod and so it would no longer freeze. Unfortunately this was not the case, despite my library recognising an ipod in recovery mode and being able to restore it (so that I can now at least use it in its most basic form). It has subsequently frozen each time I connect my iPod. How can I fix this? Should I just wait for the next iTunes upgrade?
    Thank you
    Frances

    Hi Frances,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The sugestions in the article below should help. They will resolve most issues that cause iTunes to stop responding when an iOS device is connected to the computer.
iTunes: May become unresponsive when connecting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3219
    Symptoms
In rare instances, iTunes may become unresponsive when connecting an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to your computer. iTunes may become responsive again after you disconnect the device from the computer.
    Resolution
Expand All Sections | Collapse All Sections
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:
Install any available software updates for your computer.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions.
For Windows: Refer to the documentation for your computer for instructions on using Windows Update to update your computer.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
For Mac OS X: Click the Apple () menu, choose Software Update, and follow the on-screen instructions. You can also download iTunes from the Apple website.
For Windows: Use Apple Software Update, or download iTunes from the Apple website.
Test with automatic syncing disabled.Reconnect your device and test to see if the issue still occurs. If your device is recognized successfully, you may be able to isolate which type of data is causing the issue. Do this by deselecting all syncing options under each of the syncing tabs and then sync. After that, re-enable your sync options one at a time until the issue returns.
Note: If the issue only occurs when syncing data from the Info tab is enabled (For example: Contact, Calendar, Mail account or Bookmark syncing), reset the Sync History (for Mac OS X instructions see this article, for Windows see this article).
For Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
For Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences. Click the Devices tab and place a check next to option to "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically." Click OK.
Check your device for podcasts. If there are any podcasts, manually delete all podcast episodes from the device by sliding your finger across the podcast episode's name and tapping Delete. Once all podcasts are removed from your device, reconnect it to the computer, open iTunes, and test.
If possible, test to see if connecting your device to a different computer with the latest version of iTunes installed resolves the issue.
    Test with iTunes plug-ins removed.
    Quit iTunes.
Navigate to the following folder, based on your operating system:
    Windows XP:  C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Windows Vista or Windows 7:  C:\Users\[username]\App Data\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes Plug-ins
    Mac OS X:
~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins   (The "~" represents your Home folder)
    /Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
If any files are in this folder, move them to the Desktop temporarily.
Open iTunes and test to see if the issue is resolved. If so, you may leave these iTunes plug-ins removed. If you wish to re-use these iTunes plug-ins, consult the vendor for the iTunes plug-ins to see if any updates are available.
If the issue also occurs on a different computer:
If the issue does not occur on a different computer, or no other computer is available to try:

  • Difficulties connecting iPod to Mac

I have not transferred music from iTunes to my iPod for over a year now, because I had run out of storage space on both my Mac and the iPod (though I continued to use the iPod to play the music already on it). Now I have bought a bigger iPod (160GB), transferred my library to it and used it successfully. I also transferred my iTunes library to a NAS (QNAP TS-209II) which I recently added to my system. Everything seemed at first to work fine. I could access the NAS from iTunes on the Mac (and also from a Windows PC).
However, now having free storage space again, I decided it was time to add some new music to the iTunes library, which I did. But, when I came to transfer the new music from the library to the iPod (something which was never any trouble in the past), I had great difficulty in getting the system to recognise the iPod at all and, even when it did, it always then immediately disconnected it again.
The iPod would appear briefly in the Finder, then in iTunes. As it appeared in iTunes it disappeared from the Finder (is this normal?) and then it would display 'disconnecting' and return to offline mode.
In iTunes the library would be displayed (including folders which weren't shown by my previous 80GB iPod and even after the iPod had disconnected itself) but all the songs were greyed out and not accessible. I also couldn't copy new music to the iPod.
Any suggestions about what is wrong? Must I register the iPod anew somehow? The NAS is shown as SHARED->QNAP - does this have some effect?
    Thanks for any help.

Here some more technical details that maybe someone can interpret:
When I put my iPod into the dock it connects, then after a short while (apparently immediately after the iPod is displayed in iTunes) it "self-disconnects".

Googling "DigiHub" I found this link, which seems to indicate that DigiHub is related to iPod insertion. That all sounds as though it could be normal, as does "found device". Whether "Found a transaction past the completion deadline ... , timing out!" is normal, I wouldn't like to say.
Does the argument 'supportNewPowerCalls: 0' in the DigIhub command have any significance? Could it be that my Mac still expects my old 80GB iPod without 'NewPowerCalls' but the newer 160GB iPod does need them? Pure speculation.
In a later test this ("timing out") message was repeated 59 times in 6min 44secs (no other messages in between) and only when I pulled the iPod out of the dock came "found device" (twice). During all this time the iPod display shows "Connected" (and the iPod doesn't appear either in Finder or iTunes).
I haven't seen any messages appearing just as the iPod "self-disconnects".
Without really understanding any of this, I feel it seems to confirm my suspicion that the problem is USB related. Can anyone say any more about this? Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Airport settings lost in osx after using windows 7 in bootcamp??

Hi forum members, I thought I'd ask this question as I have been noticing this in the last few days.
    First things first, my kit:
    13 inch MBP with 2.3GHz i5 processor. 4GB RAM running OSX 10.7.1
    My problem:
I recently set up a bootcamp partition runnning windows 7 upgraded from windows XP sp2. This install went well (considering the number of threads to the contrary!) and I now happily run windows 7 pro in a partition on my mac.
The problem arises when I return to OSX having just been on the windows 7 partition. I can't connect to the internet with airport. I can make a connection to the router but it cannot actually make a connection to the internet itself.
I have found one solution which requires me to repair the permissions in the disk utility after I first log back in to Lion but I'm a bit worried about continually doing this as I don't know what the long term effects will be if done frequently.
Can anyone suggest a) what might be happening, and b) a better solution to the problem than to have to head into disk utility after every windows use?
Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Dan Drysdale

An update/follow up for anyone else who had seen this thread:
What appears to have happened is that the DHCP lease has been getting reset so going into
    system preference - network - airport - advance - tcp/ip
and renewing dhcp lease seems to bring the internet back.
I dunno, if that's the ultimate solution but it appears to be what is happening at least as far as I can see.
    Smarter people may know better.
    Cheers,
    Dan Drysdale.
