Connecting ipod to TV/projector via av cable

Question

I was just wondering if anyone has tried connecting their ipod to a TV or a projector and seen if the quality is reduced because the screen is so much bigger. Can you only watch video in good quality on the ipod itself at 320X240, or can it expand clearly to bigger screen sizes. How can I get the ipod to play clearly on my TV and/or projector?

320x240 stuff looks better than you might think on a TV. I guess TVs often 'soften' the image slightly, which helps.
The low resolution will be a lot more noticable with detailed scenes,and with on-screen titles and graphics. It will probably show up even more on a projector, though you could just put it out of focus very slightly to mask the effect.
Now you can actually use video larger than 320x240 on the ipod. If you use h264, you will see less compression artifacts, but you are limited to a lower bitrate and 320x240. If you use the older type of mpeg4, you can use a higher bitrate and a higher resolution (up to 230400 pixels or something, so resolutions like 640x320 but not 640x480). But the older mpeg4 has more noticable compression artifacts, though this can somewhat be compensated for by using a bitrate of 2500kbits/sec rather than 768kbits/sec that h264 is limited to on the ipod.
I guess its worth experimenting before settling on whatever compromise of the above factors works best for you.
