Connecting iPod to USB2 freezes computer

I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2 with iTunes 7.1.1. Whenever I connect my gen 5 black 30gb iPod to my computer using USB2, the computer freezes as iTunes starts up. This problem does not occur when using USB1. I have attempted using a different port and this does not solve the problem. Any ideas?

  • Connecting iPod to Windows freezes computer

I have the newest version of iTunes installed on my computer. When the program is running and I try to connect my iPod, iTunes freezes and I have to force quit the program. iTunes does however, recognize my iPod right before it freezes.
How can I keep iTunes from freezing on me?

    Let's try it this way....
    1) Was it ever working before?
    2) Between the time it was working and the time it stopped working, what changed, either on your computer or on the iPod? Did you update any software (including iTunes)? Did you install any new USB devices?
It is starting to sound like the problem is an iPod that got corrupted during a sync due to communication timing problems with iTunes 10.5, but I won't know until I learn whether it was working before and what started the problems was an upgrade to 10.5. If that is the problem, then there are a series of suggestions in the summary post that I linked that should help you figure things out.
This is why I need you to carefully think about what changed between the last time it was working and now. It could be as little as the iPod being assigned a different drive letter.

  • IPod video 30gb Freezing COMPUTER?

Everytime I plug my ipod video in the computer recognizes it like its connected and then just freezes up my whole computer. I don't get what is going on. I have all the new itunes and everything and am connecting ipod through USB port. Someone help me please.

I was having the same problem with my 60GB Video iPod. Are you plugging in your iPod before you open iTunes? I know plugging in your iPod is supposed to automatically open iTunes for you, but that seemed to be what was causing the problem for me. If I open iTunes first then plug in my iPod it doesn't crash my computer. I also make sure my iPod is "ejected" and turned off before I unplug it. That seems to save me from crashing my system when I unplug the iPod.
    Hope this helps you.

I'm trying to connect my daughters ipod touch to the computer it makes all the beeping noises and is charging but isn't found on iTunes so I can't add anything to it or sync it. It was last synced in January this year. My other daughters iPod touch connects fine.
What has happened and how can I connect it???????

    See

    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:

paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

I recently changed computers and want to set up my iPod on the new one. The last time I changed computers, I lost all of my iPod contents. Is there a secret to setting up a new computer and being able to sync my iPod to that new computer without a loss of contents?

  • Cannot Connect iPod to Itunes or Computer

When i connect my ipod through the usb port, nothing comes up on itunes or my computer to say it is connected and i can begin synching my music. Any help?

    Hey there,
Have you attempted Apple's 5 Rs? If not, go through each one of the those and see if that helps. If not, try putting your iPod into Disk Mode. More information on the 5 Rs and putting your iPod into Disk Mode can be found with the links below. Hope this helps.

  • When connecting ipod to PC USB, computer restarts

When I connect my ipod to USB immediately following taking it off my AC adapter, it causes my computer (PC, XP) to restart. Today I updated to Itunes 5. What's up with that?

When I connect my ipod to USB immediately following taking it off my AC adapter, it causes my computer (PC, XP) to restart.
Reinstall Windows. This has nothing to do with iTunes or any other Apple software, because that functionality is entirely Windows based.
If reinstalling windows fresh (and doing all the updates) doesn't fix it, then you have a hardware problem on the PC.

  • Can I connect iPod touch 4 to computer without iTunes or software?

I need to back up a couple videos that are nearly 6 mins and over 6 mins. My own comp needs to be fixed, in the meantime I've tried looking into an online storage solution, but none will let me upload the videos. I was wondering if I could connect my iPod touch 4g to any computer, like I would a digital camera or my Kindle, and be able to access the camera roll for backup purposes, without iTunes or any special software being installed. If not, any suggestions on a website that will allow me to upload the videos (not You Tube) from mobile safari?

Thanks for the link, it enabled me to view the camera roll and copy over some things.
But now I have another problem, the computer I was using froze up and the program was ended. Then the computer was detecting the iPod but said there was no pictures??!!
But on my iPod itself, I have the camera roll opened and am able to play the videos and view pics. I'm now afraid to close the photos app because my vids and pics will be gone! I don't know what to do and am feeling sick to my stomach because the vids that I really wanted were not copied over yet, as that's when the computer froze.
Do you know if that means they're gone from my iPod with no way to get them (as I haven't been able to do a proper backup since my laptop needs fixed)??

  • Connecting ipod with songs to computer with no songs in itunes library

My computer recently went bad(hard drive)and my itunes was not saved.Enter new hard drive with itunes and empty library. If I hook up my ipod to the computer, will the songs be erased? Is there a way to get the songs from the ipod to the computer?

If you sync with the empty iTunes on the new computer/Hard Drive then you will lose everything on your iPod. What you will need to do is what you stated and that is get the music out of your iPod and into your iTunes. Then you can sync.
Check out [*This Thread*|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10570955#10570955] and focus on the post by Zevoneer. You will find several software that is availabel on the internet which will help you move your music, videos and photos etc out of your current ipod and into your iTunes.
One thing to note and that is if everything on your iPod is purchased via iTunes store then you can transfer that to your empty iTunes by going to File and then choosing *Transfer all Purchases* option. Do this before you sync. If this is not the case then go with the option recommended above.

  • For Anyone Having Problems Connecting Ipod to Itunes/My Computer

I have just spent all day trying to get my new Ipod Nano sync'd.
Just attempted unplugging my Printer and other devices so that only my mouse was left. I plugged my Ipod in and it worked. So basically I don't think it likes my printer being plugged in at the same time as it.
Worth a go for anyone pulling their hair out like I was.

"She also told me that if that didn't work, that I should get a PCI card with USB 2.0. They have a list of recommended brands (tend to work with iPods?) here, so I ran to a local store and picked up a SIIG brand card (this exact model), and it works great."
So, because of a fault of Apple, YOU had to buy more stuff for your computer to make THEIR product work? Id see about trying to get Apple to foot the bill of that. I would have told the tech support gal, to tell her superiors to stick their Nano where it wont play again. Why is Apple not aknowledging this problem? Ive been loyal to Ipods since the old shuffle hit the shelves. It served me well until this year when it fell outta my pocket and sat through a weekend of ice and snow on our driveway. I have half a mind to return this bugged up mess and ebay me a new (well old) shuffle. This is rediculas! At least I got some songs on it once, its not completely useless...yet... I am NOT buying new USB ports for my computer when every single USB device I have works just darn fine in the ones I have on my computer now.

  • Connecting ipod causes computer to freeze

Hello, I'm not sure which ipod I have (a 20 gig purchased around Dec. 2004). I just got a new computer with Windows Vista because my old one (which my ipod was configured to) died. That computer had Windows XP. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer and tried to connect my iPod to the new computer and it causes iTunes as well as my entire computer to freeze when the iPod is connected via USB. However, when I disconnect the iPod the computer unfreezes. I would like to synch my ipod with the new computer so I can add everything from the ipod onto the new computer. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I am having a similar problem. My whole computer doesn't freeze just "my computer" and itunes. But both windows and itunes don't recognize my ipod. I restored my ipod using a mac (erasing all my songs) and re-restored it on my pc. (It did recognize my ipod once I had formatted it on a mac first and asked for a reformat to windows) But it would not sync once I had finished with the restore. Please help?
