Connecting iPod to Windows freezes computer

I have the newest version of iTunes installed on my computer. When the program is running and I try to connect my iPod, iTunes freezes and I have to force quit the program. iTunes does however, recognize my iPod right before it freezes.
How can I keep iTunes from freezing on me?

Let's try it this way....
1) Was it ever working before?
2) Between the time it was working and the time it stopped working, what changed, either on your computer or on the iPod? Did you update any software (including iTunes)? Did you install any new USB devices?
It is starting to sound like the problem is an iPod that got corrupted during a sync due to communication timing problems with iTunes 10.5, but I won't know until I learn whether it was working before and what started the problems was an upgrade to 10.5. If that is the problem, then there are a series of suggestions in the summary post that I linked that should help you figure things out.
This is why I need you to carefully think about what changed between the last time it was working and now. It could be as little as the iPod being assigned a different drive letter.

  • Connecting iPod to USB2 freezes computer

I'm running Windows XP Service Pack 2 with iTunes 7.1.1. Whenever I connect my gen 5 black 30gb iPod to my computer using USB2, the computer freezes as iTunes starts up. This problem does not occur when using USB1. I have attempted using a different port and this does not solve the problem. Any ideas?

  • I get a "Connection Failed" message when I try to connect to a Windows 7 computer that I was able to connect to before.

I was able to connect to this Windows 7 computer before, I don't think anything happened, and then suddenly I couldn't.  I turned the firewall off and enabled everything that I could for sharing on the PC.  I can connect to the other PC on the network fine.  I have tried using the connect to server and all of the different ways to enter the address in.  When I ping the PC all of the responses are completely normal.  I'm on OS X 10.8.3 and the PC I'm connecting to is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.  If you need any more details I'll try to provide them, that's all I can think of right now.

I called Apple today... It turned out to be my modem/router.

  • IPod video 30gb Freezing COMPUTER?

Everytime I plug my ipod video in the computer recognizes it like its connected and then just freezes up my whole computer. I don't get what is going on. I have all the new itunes and everything and am connecting ipod through USB port. Someone help me please.

I was having the same problem with my 60GB Video iPod. Are you plugging in your iPod before you open iTunes? I know plugging in your iPod is supposed to automatically open iTunes for you, but that seemed to be what was causing the problem for me. If I open iTunes first then plug in my iPod it doesn't crash my computer. I also make sure my iPod is "ejected" and turned off before I unplug it. That seems to save me from crashing my system when I unplug the iPod.
    Hope this helps you.

  • FYI - all of us with problems connecting ipod to windows

A bit of information for all of us that their ipods have stopped being recognised by windows!
I have done the 5 r's 4 times, reinstalled all drivers on windows etc etc ... still not being recognised!!
I have just called Apple Tech support and when I told them the date it stopped working and all the steps Ihave carried out, guess what .. they said send it back as there may be a technical problem with the hard drive on the ipod!!
Thought i'd let you all know!!

    Hey everyone
I have been fighting with this problem all night and have eventually solved the problem. The 5 R's sort of works but here is the solution. The problem rests with the latest version of the iPod updater software AND Microsoft's new Windows Defender as well which seem to have had an adverse effect on the software and iPod and how it behaves.
If you are having problems getting the iPod to be recognised on Windows follow the following guidance to uninstall iTunes completely
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
You need to start with a blank sheet and get rid of iTunes and clean up all previous installs of it. Make sure you also remove the iPod for Windows software too. Download the LATEST version of iTunes from the Apple web site (I think its 6.0.3) and install it on your machine.
Then, with the CD that came with your 5th Gen iPod install the iPod for Windows software that came on it. Don't worry about what version of iPod software you have on the iPod - it is fine - you can have up to 26-01-06 version which is what I have.
Connect up your iPod - Windows probably still wont recognise it. Don't worry here is the added solution and what the problem is.
The iPod has somehow become disabled in the Hardware profiles on Windows by the recent updates. Let the iPod be connected to your PC for at least 15 secs.
    1. Go to My Computer icon on the desktop and right mouse click - go to Properties.
    2. On the System Properties window that comes up click on the Hardward Tab.
    3. Go to the Device Manager button and click it.
    4. Under the listing that comes up do to Disk Drives. Click on the + icon to expand the list. You will now see Apple iPod listed (NB If you have any other external hard drives normally connected to your PC disconnect them beforehand so the drive letter that will be assigned to the iPod is E: - after this problem is fixed you can reattach any external drives fine)
    5. You should find that the Apple iPod drive is disabled (has a red cross over it)
    6. To enable it, right mouse click on its icon and select, enable.
    7. This will cause the iPod to be recognised by Windows and then iTunes should start up as normal.
FOR THOSE WHO DONT SEE THE IPOD IN THE HARD DRIVE LIST:
    1. Go to Add New Hardware and the plug and play properties should find the iPod and add it with the relevant hard drive drivers.
    Hope this helps everyone!

  • My keyboard doesn't work when I connect to a Windows 7 computer with Remote Desktop.

I got a new computer at work that has Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on it.  I set up a Remote Desktop connection from my iMac at home and connected.  However, when I tried to use the keyboard, nothing happened.  After a little pecking I found that the DELETE key worked.  Also, I found that the keyboard would work correctly if I held down the FUNCTION key.  Very weird.
My old Windows XP computer was still connected so I connected to it via Remote Desktop.  The keyboard works normally there.  It has always worked in Windows XP so I was surprised when it didn't work in Windows 7.
I've been searching but haven't found anyone with this same issue.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Can't connect to my Windows XP computer

Everything worked flawlessly with the MacBook, but of course now that I bought the MacBook Pro and reformatted my MacBook, I can't get into my Windows XP computer. I turned off the Windows firewall to help in troubeshooting.
I get the message: "The alias __ could not be opened, because the original file cannot be found." I can either hit delete alias, fix alias, or OK.
It tells me I don't have sufficient privileges for deleting the alias, fix alias ask for me to choose which document I would like the alias to open (which is irrelevant because I want to connect to the Windows shared printer), and OK doesn't do anything.
Please help, I'm pulling my hair out over this issue.

If we could get some more information on the following:
    Windows XP ??(pro or home?)
Anti Virus or Firewall applications installed (McAfee, Zone alarm, Norton, etc?)
Your goal: File and printer sharing? Having the new Macbook Pro access the Windows XP computers files and printer.
With Windows you have to setup the file and printer sharing wizard, so that it opens the ports on the computer to accept incoming commands from other computers.
To accomplish that, you do the following:
*Open up My Networking Places (by going to Start, then clicking My Networking Places)
*On the left hand panel (Network Tasks), click where it says "Set up a home or small office network"
    *Follow the steps, hitting next
For the first option, you could select Other, then....
Select the option at the top "this computer connects thru network port, hub..."
    *click next
*now, for the Workgroup name, you could put what you want for this. I'd prefer to have it named WORKGROUP, then click next
*then choose the option to turn on file and printer sharing, click next, and let it do its thing
*You might have to reboot after its done.
    <====>
After doing that, now, on your Macbook:
*Open up Your Hard Drive -> Applications -> Utilities -> and open Directory Access
*Make sure the Lock is unlocked
    *Double Click on SMB/CIFS
*In the Workgroup: type in the name of the workgroup you choose. In this case it was WORKGROUP
*Hit okay, and close out the program.
Now you should be able to click on your Network Icon, and you will see the windows xp computer name, and you will be able to click on it do what you wish.
As far as the printing, I am going to look into it. I know that the printer requires some drivers to print thru the different operating system.
What type of printer is it?

  • Connecting a new Windows 7 computer to Verizon internet

Hello - I will be adding a brand new computer with Windows 7 to my friend's current Verizon internet service, High Speed Internet (DSL). Do I need to know any username/password or other configuration information to establish the internet connection or will Windows 7 be able to detect, configure and connect by itself once we plug in the ethernet cable?
    Thanks!

As far as the Internet is concerned, No, you won't need a username and password just to access the web. However, you will need this information for acess to Verizon's Web based email or if you are using an external email program.
The Username and Password for the DSL account is stored in the DSL modem. As long as you don't do a factory reset on the modem you should be fine.
For the configuration, as long as the Ethernet is enabled on the new pc and TCP/IP is installed you should be good to go. (usually this is by default).

  • Oracle Database XE - apex on Windows 7 - Problem with Connection from another Windows 7 Computer

    Hello,
I started with Oracle Database XE 11g, with apex, did the upgrade to Apex 4.2.6 and started in developing a small Application.
I wanted to Connect to my Computer A (with Database runing on it) from another Windows 7 Computer B.
So I put in in Firefox: //A:8080/apex but I only received a timeout.
Of course on both Computers there is a windows-Firewall running, so I stopped on both Systems the Firewall, but its the same still.
In the windows explorer running on Computer B , I can see the data of Computer A and both Computers are in the same home-net-group. (sorry for my poor english).
Is there anyone who cann tell me how to get the Connection running ?
Maybe I didn't see the info about this in the manuals, if it is there, please give me a hint.

  • Printing to a printer connected to a Windows XP computer

    Hello
I have a MacBook, a Powerbook, and a Windows XP computer.
I currently have the printer connected to the XP computer using USB.
I am thinking of buying an Airport Express, but I don't want to connect the printer to the Airport Express as it also functions as a scanner, and I do not want to lose this function.
I understand that I can 'share' my printer, so that my Macs can 'see' it and print to it. I also understand that in order for this to work, the XP computer must be switched on and logged in.
My question is: is it an easy process to allow my printer to be shared by the MacBook and Powerbook? (for instance, will I need to install the printer driver's for Mac on each of these machines)
The printer is an HP all-in-one 2110
    Thank you in advance

Have a look at the Keyspan USB Server this may allow you to share the full functionality of your multi-function device.
Personally if I was going to spend money I would purchase an AIO printer with an integrated print server.

You may need to use a third-party driver such as the HPIJS drivers or the Gimp-Print drivers, but this is not the case with all printers.
