Connecting ipod touch 3rd to my itunes

i just brought an ipod touch 3rd generation but when i plug it inyo my macbook it uploads photos etc but a window pops up and says i need the latest software to connect my ipod to my itunes but i have the latest software 10.7? everytime i download the software its asking me too then it tells me its not compatable as i need another software like 10.6.8?? can anyone help before i take this back?

Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.

Please Help! Ipod touch 3rd generation battery & itunes problem

Please Help! My ipod touch 3rd generation has the battery sign come up when it is charging, however after several hours when its suppose to be charging I take out the USB and plug but it says its low battery and how it was when I connected the charger. I dont understand whats happening and why i wont charge up. It was working perfectly fine the other day.
Another thing i have is itunes. My ipod touch wont show up on the itunes, it comes and goes in a flash then it say something about an unknown error and it cannot connect. It feels like nothing is working and this ipod isnt even mine

I just tried resetting the ipod but sadly it still doesnt work. Will it try when its off? Because the USB is not letting the ipod charge.
I do have the plug to go with the USB but it wont work with either the netbook or the wall charger. I was thinking of trying another USB wire and hopfully it would work. What do you think?

I have dowloaded the last version of iTunes and I've iOS 4.2.1 on my iPod, but iTunes says it's the current version.
I know the last one is 4.3.3.

You have a 2G iPod. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPods. When the 3G iPods were introduced, the 8GB 2G iPods were continued to be sold with the same updated iOS as the 3G ipods. It is a common error to think that users purchased a 8GB 3G ipod. Sorry.

It would appear that your iPod is a 2nd Gen... If so the highest iOS you can go to is 4.2.1

Can I get iTunes to open automatically when I connect to my iMac with the USB connector? I upgraded my OS today to 10.6.8, and now it doesn't happen. (It's a 2nd generation iPod Touch.)

Problem solved thanks to another post here on the same topic.
1-Opened i Tunes & Connected iPod Touch
2- Unchecked "Open iTunes when connected"
3 - Synched iPod
4- Hit "Apply"
5- Checked "Open iTunes when connected"
6- Synched iPod
7 - Hit "Apply"
8- Ejected iPod and closed iTunes
9- Re-connected iPod Touch
10- iTunes opened automatically!

TS1538 iPod touch not recognized by iTunes, Windows only recognizes it as a camera.

So I've been having trouble with my iPod Touch and iTunes lately. First, the registry settings for the iTunes drivers message kept popping up whenever I opened my iTunes, prompting me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes at least a dozen times. After solving that problem, Windows has been able to recognize my iPod, but only as a camera and not as an iPod, preventing me from updating my music. I've tried different USB cords in different ports, but to no avail. My iPod is recognized on other computers as an iPod. I've followed the Apple resolutions but it still hasn't fixed my problem.

I've removed and reinstalled it many times and each time I do it, I always get the registry errors and the failure to download the driver, but I resolved those. Here are the diagnostic test results:
