Connecting iPod touch to home wireless internet

I've had my iPod since April, and when I got to "settings", "wi-fi", it shows my home network but when I put in the password (I've tried both the router and the network password), a message pops ups that says, "Unable to join the network."
The iPod works in public places such as Starbucks and Barnes and Noble, but I want the wi fi at home as well.
Ideas?
Thanks much!

Most routers may have a password in ALL CAPS and numbers, so you will have to type the password EXACTLY how it is. no extra spaces, no extra letters, nothing. make sure you are looking at the WEP Key, WPA key [ For airport extreme and time capsule ], etc... And if you DO have MAC Address filtering on, you will have to add your device manually. if you have no idea what it is, or the person who set up the router doesnt know what it is, then its probably not on.

  • Trouble connecting Ipod touch to home stereo.

Hello, I have an Ipod Touch 3rd gen.  I currently use it mostly in my car and I use a simple aux 3.5 mm jack from the itouch to my aux input on my car stereo to listen to music.  Works great.  Now, I have been trying to get my ipod to connect to either of my home stereo receivers without any luck.  I have a 3.5mm jack from the itouch going to 2 rca inputs on the back of the stereo.  When I try to get it to play, it sometimes will play but it is not loud at all and sounds very distorted.  I can sort of hear the music but the vocals are very quiet.   This happens on both of my home stereos.  I was thinking of getting another cable that goes from the 30 pin connector on the bottom to the 2 rca inputs.  Do you think this would be better?  Or do I not have something configured right with the itouch?  Its just weird that it works fine in my car but not with the home stereo.  Thanks for the input.

This may work since it includesd an audio out\http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748ZM/A/apple-composite-av-cable?fnode=72
This may also work since it included :

  • Connecting Ipod Touch to Home Network via Linksys Router

After hours of frustrating attempts and able assistance from Apple product specialists and Linksys agents the issue was finally resolved inadvertently. Here's the solution for anyone having trouble:
    1. Perform a hard reset on the router - holding tiny red button next to the power cable in for 30 seconds.
    2. Perform a soft reset on the router - unplug the power cable for 30 seconds.
    3. Reset your cable modem.
    4. After rebooting everything, go to your router pages on the web. Re-establish your network settings. Make sure the Wireless Mac Filter setting is disabled. That worked for us. Hope it will save others the time and trouble we experienced.

    Thanks for posting your resolution.
I would also like to mention that Linksys router owners should always update their router firmware to the latest version when encountering connection issues.

  • Yesterday my iPod touch's home button would not work and to day it is completely turned off and wont turn back on and it is fully charged and when i connect it to itoons it dosent reckinise it

yesterday my iPod touch's home button would not work and to day it is completely turned off and wont turn back on and it is fully charged and when i connect it to itoons it dosent reckinise it

Given the information supplied, it sounds very similar to what happened to my wife's 4.  Locked up...came back on with a blank (bluish) screen...could here emails and text coming through.  It would get very hot as well.  Our local apple store tried two times to rescue it, ultimately rendering it complete inoperable.  I'm sorry to say in our case we had to buy a refurb and trade in the phone for $150, which actually wasn't a bad deal.
There could be other information I'm missing, but I would start with seeing if apple can restore your phone.  If they can't, then I'm pretty sure it's dead.

  • Connect iPod touch 2G to Reciever using RCA's? It cannot be this difficult?

    Hello!
Need to connect iPod touch 2G to my reciever using RCA's?
But +I do not want to use the headphone jack....+ (I heard I will get higher sound quality using the bottom multi-pin connector on the bottom of the touch going to a left and right RCA's) +I have uncompressed (AIFF) files on my iPod touch and want the best sound quality possible.+
I found a couple companies that make these cables with one being the Cables To Go 4-Feet RCA Stereo to Dock Connector Cable for iPod and also the Nyko Stereo Link for iPod, but from reading the reviews on Amazon neither of them will work with the Touch 2g (or the iPhone for that matter).
I am also open to a simple dock of some sort that would provide me RCA outputs. Seems as if Apples universal dock would be great but it seems to have NO RCA outputs on the back of it.
If anyone has a solution to this I would be very very happy!
+I have looked high and low for a solution for this seemingly simple task.+
All I want is a connector that goes from the bottom of the touch to 2 RCA's so I can input this into
my home stereo so I can listen to my ripped CD's in high quality. A dock would also work too! I do not need charging or anything fancy....
(already have try the Tekkeon NavDock for iPod which was cool because I could watch my videos on tv from my touch but i dont need that)
+*just looking for something simple that works with the iPod Touch 2G.*+
    *It cannot be this difficult?*
    thanks, techo

As I stated above, the docking connector is not a "true" line-out, it does have a volume-tap so the volume control will work. It probably is somewhat cleaner than the headphone out (haven't measured it), but it is not going to be a significant difference as any improvement you get from the connector is severely limited by the DAC in the iPod.
You get no improvement in sound from using the pins on the 30 pin connector versus a 3.5 mm jack. If you buy a Universal Dock it is passing the signal from the 30 pin dock to a 3.5mm female jack, then you use the 3.5mm to RCA. Going directly from the dock connector to RCA will not improve the sound, the 3.5mm connector is not inferior in itself to the RCA connectors.
The A/V kit will get you the ability to watch your videos on your TV and output the stereo signal to your receiver. If you want even better sound for your music, get an Apple TV and use the HDMI cable to transfer the video and sound:

  • Unexpected "Connect iPod touch to iTunes" screen

I powered off my 2G Touch before flying to Argentina; then powering up again on arrival brought up a new-to-me "Connect iPod touch to iTunes screen", which no amount of button presses would get past.
Luckily there was a PC where we were staying, and with iTunes installed, and with USB, so I was able to get going again, esp. since I'd disabled automatic syncing, though now everything was in Spanish. But,
Q1: does anyone know what this screen really means?, and why it might have come up? [a wifi router was nearby]
Q2: would a hard reset [hold sleep/wake and home buttons for 10 sec] worked to get past this screen?

I have the same problem, getting the 'connect' symbol or icon while travelling. I just got off the phone and an unsatisfying conversation with Apple support. Apparently, this is a "rare?" problem that is caused when there is some kind of software failure on the iPod Touch, and that there is no way to get around it except connecting to iTunes on some pc somewhere, ideally your own PC and iTunes. This happened once before for me but I was home and just plugged it in. The iPod recovered, connected and synced with no error message at all. The rep at Apple support said there is no log or trace that can be retrieved, so the mysterious iPod Touch software failure will remain unknown. He said I could take it in for warranty service, but who knows if they could reproduce the problem. Maybe the new iPhone/iPod Touch software version will run better (or worse). ps, I tried all possible combinations of hard reset on the unit, but nothing else works to recover.

  • I have an apple id for my ipod touch at home. My company is planning to issuing Ipads. Should I use the same apple id on the ipad for those apps I purchase and would like to purchase and use on my work ipad?

I have an apple id for my ipod touch at home. My company is planning to issuing Ipads. Should I use the same apple id on the ipad for those apps I purchase and would like to use on my work ipad?

Yes, otherwise you will have to pay for those apps again. If an app is purchased by one Apple ID, he/she will be able to redownload it again for no cost (note: this does apply to songs, but NOT to movies).

2 ipod touches sharing home pc. The 2nd ipod is not being recognised by itunes. Do you need to set up another itunes account?

I wish I could help you. I am experiencing the same problem. There is a problem with the mini and the new updates. Some more paranoid folks are thinking its a scam to get us to buy the new nano. I hope itunes and ipod fix this problem soon!

  • IPOD TOUCH AND HOME STEREO

    All,
New to the board. I have an Ipod Touch, and wanted to play it through my home stereo which is a Denon, and has the Aux outputs in the front. There is a Video - aux, and 2 slots for audio. I went and bought the cable that indicated for IPOD (Touch) to Home stereo. But when I plugged it into the stereo, no sound came out.
i made sure the selection was on Aux, but still not sound? Am I missing something? Is there any outputs on the back of the receiver I could use?
    HELP???

You need to plug it into an input, not an output.
