Connecting ipod touch to talktalk wifi connection

I know there's lots of questions around connection to wifi but I still can't get my ipod touch connected. I tried several times and typed in the password for the network when asked but keep getting an unable to join message. I am typing in the correct password so don't know what to do next! Please help.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Some thoughts/things to try:
If using WEP encryption key put a $ in front of the key
If using WEP encryption with an ASCII password ensure it's 5 or 13 characters long (40 or 128bit encryption respectively).
(Switching to the more secure WPA encryption will avoid these issues)
Check that you have the case correct when entering the password.
Ensure that MAC address filtering is disabled on the router.
Ensure that the DHCP server is on on the router and IP address pool is sufficiently large
Restart the router
Reset the iPod (press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" buttons until the Apple logo appears.

Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static IP, Subnet, Router and DNS manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.  Using Airport for router, latest firmware, no problems with Iphone 4 or Macbook Pro or any other internet devices.  After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected.  Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP.  Any solutions other than turning it on and off again?  Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things:  Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod.  Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel.  Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem.  Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet.  Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.
Thanks again for all your help, hopefully I can get a solution in place soon,

Do other devices connect to your router?
What do you mean by distant IP address?

If you are sure that your password is correct try restarting your router by removing power to it for 30 seconds and restarting. On your iPod go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings. Now try to connect.

I bought a new ipod touch for my wife, I put my Apple Id in to activate it, b/c we were not home, now that we are home I would like to set up a account (apple) of her own, so that it won't be interfering with my account. thanks for your help.

Why not just erase the iPod and start over, using her Apple ID. Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, then you can start over with the initial setup of the device.
Alternatively, your Apple ID may have been entered in:
    Settings > iCloud
    Settings > Messages > Send & Receive
    Settings > FaceTime
Settings > iTunes & App Stores
Sign out of your ID in these menus and sign in with your wife's Apple ID.

  • Problems Connecting iPod Touch 32GB to WiFi

    Hi,
I have just purchased an iPod Touch 32GB and am having problems connecting to a server. I am using a Netgear DG834 router to connect to Orange. Netgear is now showing as checked on the Wi-Fi Networks page on the iPod with strong signal strength but I keep cannoy getting the message "could not connect to server" whenever I try any of the applications. Needless to say, the internet connections on my laptop and desktop are working perfectly. Thanks. Grant

Have you tried resetting your router? sometimes this is all you need to do to get the IPT to work properly. If you are using any type of security such as WEP or WPA2 then you are going to need to enter your password. Try a reset and then go to your wifi settings in the IPT and select your router and then click on the little blue arrow and check under DHCP and make sure you have an IP along with a router Ip and DNS entries. If you don't have a router IP or DNS entries try and renew the lease.
If you can't get it to work then reset the router again but this time try it without any security and do the same procedure as above. If that still doesn't work then the only other thing I can suggest is to look on Netgears website and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router and to give that a try.

  • IPod Touch 2G loses WiFi WEP connection, have to re-enter SID and password

We bought a new iPod Touch this week, and it keeps dropping/forgetting the WiFi connection settings. My network consists of a Netgear N router set to mixed mode (B/G/N), WPA, MAC filtering, SSID is not broadcast. I have added the new iPod Touch's MAC address to the routers filter list. On the new iPod I choose Other at the choose a network setting, entered the router information and password, and it connected fine. For a short time it continues to connect fine, but after a few hours or the next day it won't connect (and in network settings it no longer lists my router to connect to). I have to go through the process of choosing other, re-entering the network settings password, and it repeats again...works for awhile, then forgets the setting. We've restored the iPod...same problem
I have 2 iPhones and 2 Gen 1 iPod Touches that we are currently using that have never shown this behavior. The Gen 1 iPod Touches are upgraded to SW version 2.2.1 (5H11).
There are so many postings on the net about the 2nd gen iPod touch having wifi problems that I'm suspicious there's a hardware or software bug that remains unsolved, and am ready to return this unit to BestBuy while I still can unless I can find a solution on this forum.

First of all, turning off SSID was a work around for the issue. Am now consistently connecting to the network. Thank you!!
But in response to luvlab's last response -- how could an issue supporting a common feature of every wireless router ever made not be considered a bug? That would be just plain silly. Given how long the iPod Touch 2G has been out, I fear you're right -- it's a bug in the design that can't be patched with software and is too costly to fix (or it would have been fixed by now), so SSID is just a "feature" that isn't supported.
But still -- I thought apple was better than that (tech marketing, design, software, validation, test), so I hope you're wrong.

  • "cannot connect to itunes store" from my ipod touch 4thgen over wifi

I have tried setting my restrictions to allow, making sure my wifi connection is solid. I can access every other app that uses the internet except the itunes & app store apps on my ipod touch. I looked in settings and it has my login information from my last sync on windows. My wifi settings; ip address starts 10.0.xxx.x. Has anyone else encountered this and how to fix this connection issue? Thank You.

Two things to try.  Please reply with what works.
1: Turn on Airplane mode, then turn it off again.  This resets internet related settings.
    Does it work?
2:  Changing the DNS in Setting, Wi-Fi, DHCP tab, DNS , replace with 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 8.8.4.4 (Google)
    Does it work?

  • Does the iPod Touch Bluetooth require wifi connection?

I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation and plan to upgrade to the 4 this winter but if the Bluetooth does require wifi I'll probably choose the iPhone. The reason I ask is because I want to get these Bluetooth earbuds since I'm sick of the wire. But, if the iPod Touch BlueTooth can't work while I'm out then what's the point in staying with just the iPod? I prefer having just the iPod but I am seriously that sick of the wire that I'd get the iPhone.

BT will work fine without wifi.

  • My Iphone/ Ipod touch 4th gen WiFi problems and solution

Just wanted to let people know the problems that I had with my 4th gen Ipod touch and Iphone 4 WiFi connections (and my solution).
I was having consistent problems with my WiFi connection at home - my devices were connecting fine to the router and apparently the signal was full strength; however, nothing was working properly (internet, itunes, app store). To be specific the devices would work for 5-10 minutes but then the connection would start to falter. My other wireless devices were working fine (HTC Hero, laptops etc.) - just the ipod and iphone seemed to suffer from this signal problem (although the router was always apparently connected).
Obviously, I read countless forums to try and diagnose the problem. There seemed to be a litany of possible causes and I tried the following to resolve the issue:
    - updated router (Netgear WGR614 v6) firmware
    - rotated wireless encryption (WEP/WAP/nothing)
    - changed router channel
    - reset router power
    - reset network settings on Apple devices
    - changed g and b settings on router
Nothing seemed to work so I began to question the hardware i.e. the router (which I knew was working from my other devices) and the iphone/ipod.
I tested my iphone and ipod on other wireless networks (McDonalds in the UK has free WiFi) and found that, in contrast, they worked fine on other networks. I had read a few posts from people saying that my router was perhaps too old. So as a last resort I bought myself a new router (Netgear WNR2000 v2). I was loathe to do this earlier in case it didn't work, since reasonable spec routers are £50
Anyway it worked ... straight away. I have tested the new connection at home using this SpeedTest app. D/load = 9.01 Mbps, U/load = 0.46 Mbps, Ping 65ms. The router is using the full encryption (WAP2 something ...) and N connection.
As you can probably tell I'm no WiFi expert - I just wanted to post this in case people are having similar issues with older routers. I wasn't able to find any definitive advice and solutions from other users so I though I'd contribute here, which I guess is the first port of call for new Apple users, like me
I bought the new router 10 days ago and have been enjoying my full speed connection ever since - touch wood. Hope this helps.

Sounds like an intermittent contact problem some where eon the logic board. Hard to trace down and fix
