Connecting ipod via a/v cable to projector...

I was just wondering if anyone has tried connecting their ipod to a TV or a projector and seen if the quality is reduced because the screen is so much bigger. Can you only watch video in good quality on the ipod itself at 320X240, or can it expand clearly to bigger screen sizes. How can I get the ipod to play clearly on my TV and/or projector?
Would appreciate anyone's input.
Thanks

That cable is five years old. well before the iPod Touch was available.  One site I found said:
Compatibility: 1st and 2nd generation iPod nano, 4th generation iPod with click wheel, iPod Video and 2nd generation iPod shuffle
Only Apple knows whay they do what they do and we know only if Apple tells us.

  • I cannot sync my ipod via a usb cable

I have bought cheap sync cables in the past that have only worked for bit. So I bought an iWant USB sync and charge cable today and I cannot get my ipod to sync to transfer music across to my ipod touch. The cable seems to be recognised as there is a cable symbol in the battery left meter in the top right of the ipod screen. The sync option is greyed out though in itunes, I'm so frustrated as I have loads of new music in itunes that I now can't listen to. Do I just need a new cable? Is there something wrong with my USB ports? I have restarted my pc/ipod/itunes to no avail. Any advice please>
    Thanks

In iTunes dod you have sync with this iPod over WiFi unchecked?
Try resetting the iPOd, Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Connecting iPod via HRT-iStreamer to HiFi system

I have read several articles about audio streamer that are supposed to improve the quality of sound of an iPod, iPad etc.,when playing on a HiFi-system.
I am talking about the "High Resolution Technologies iStreamer" which is, so I have read, approved by Apple.
I have two question on this topic:
    1. Does it actually improve the quality of sound? (my iPod is connected via the official Apple docking station. The MP3 files used are mostly 192kBit or higher)
    2. Does the apple remote control still work when connected via the HRT-iStreamer?
Would appreciate any info on the above.
    Thanks - Fritz

Not sure about the "approved by Apple", usually all you get is the "Works with iPhone", or iPod compatibility sticker.
If it reduces jitter it will improve the quality of sound if the source material is at high resolution, say WAV, or AIFF, or perhaps Apple Lossless. For MP3 files at 192 I doubt you would be able to tell any difference at all. It should not interfere at all with your remote.
If you want to put high resolution material on your iPod and get the highest level of sound you can, I would recommend this: http://www.wadia.com/products/transports/171i/design.php

  • Connecting iPod via Firewire

    Hey guys,
i'm sorry if this topic already exists but i didn't find anything.
By now it isn't possible to connect the iPod Video to a normal
    PC via Firewire, right?
Does anybody know, if Apple has announced somekind of Upgrade
or stuff? Or will there always be just USB 2.0 because it's "the technology of the future"?
    Post your answers, please!

That's correct. The 5th Gen iPod does not have a firewire controller in it.

No, Apple has not made any indications that firewire will return to the iPod.
For now, USB is your only syncing option.

  • Everything freezes immediately when connecting iPod

When I connect my ipod via the usb cable to my laptop basically everything freezes, including itunes and even the ipod updater. IMMEDIATELY, im talking exactly when i unplug it (even though it says do not disconnect) the computer unfreezes. I am not able to update any of my songs or the software or anything. Any suggestions?

You need to uninstall the itunes and ipod update and go back to itunes 4 that came with your ipod. I was having the same problem and sent my 40G back to apple. I got a replacement and still was having the problem. After I performed the above procedure, the problems went away. Good Luck

  • Computer restarts when connecting ipod - please help!

Hey, I've recently bought a usb 2.0 card so i can connect my ipod via usb 2.0 as it will be faster than usb 1.1.
There is a slight problem however, almost every time i connect my ipod via the usb cable to this new usb 2.0 port, the computer restarts.
On the odd few occasions the computer hasn't restarted, my ipod has not been recognised in itunes or my computer.
I have tried connecting other things such as my phone and my old mp3 player to the new usb card and they work fine.
Is this a problem with my ipod or just the usb card?
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks alot.

I've had this problem and given the advice to others and it has worked for some. This isn't mentioned in any other advice that I can see but it is a simple check that you should do, not very technical either!
With your iPod plugged in to the computer, first go through the 5R's and other help topics to check the basics (new cable, different computer, different USB port etc.)
If no luck, check to see if your iPod exists in Device Manager as follows: right-click on My Computer, then click on Manage, then Device Manager, then expand the section called Disk Drives on the right hand side and see if the iPod is shown there, if it is, go on to the next stage.
In the same Computer Management box, click on Disk Management on the left hand side, after a few seconds a new box opens on the right and should show all of the disks on your computer including the iPod. Then right-click on the iPod information and it will give you an option to Change the drive letter or path....click on that and then select Change; select a new drive letter which is not already assigned to any other disc (I picked Z down the bottom), save that then exit and see if it works. Good luck!

320x240 stuff looks better than you might think on a TV. I guess TVs often 'soften' the image slightly, which helps.
The low resolution will be a lot more noticable with detailed scenes, and with on-screen titles and graphics. It will probably show up even more on a projector, though you could just put it out of focus very slightly to mask the effect.
Now you can actually use video larger than 320x240 on the ipod. If you use h264, you will see less compression artifacts, but you are limited to a lower bitrate and 320x240. If you use the older type of mpeg4, you can use a higher bitrate and a higher resolution (up to 230400 pixels or something, so resolutions like 640x320 but not 640x480). But the older mpeg4 has more noticable compression artifacts, though this can somewhat be compensated for by using a bitrate of 2500kbits/sec rather than 768kbits/sec that h264 is limited to on the ipod.
I guess its worth experimenting before settling on whatever compromise of the above factors works best for you.

Many programs will allow you to get your music off your ipod/ipad and onto a computer so it can be resynced. Phoneview (Mac) and transpod (PC) are two examples.
    This program

claims to be able to do what you want on the PC.

  • MacBook Pro can't connect to iPod via wireless

    Hi,
I have a fresh installed Mac OS X 10.5.5 on my new MacBook Pro.
Nothing was installed on it! no firewall, nothing! But i can't get connection to my iPod touch 2g.
I can see my iPod via bonjour, it has an IP, but i can't successful ping it. When i start the application "Remote" on my iPod, i can see it in iTunes, can't connect to itunes either.
What's wrong? On my other macbook i have no problem at all.
    Thank you very much

I am having the same issue. If I plug an Ethernet cable into my Late 2008 MBP, I can connect to my iPod touch using any of the several apps, like Remote, AirSharing, 1Password, etc.
However, I cannot connect to the ipod using the MPB's airport. Like the peter2k, I can't even ping the iPod. Other laptops on the same network can wireless connect and ping my ipod just fine.
This is driving me nuts! Btw, prior to getting this laptop, I had an Early 2008 MBP that I used to connect to my ipod touch. I did a migration to this new MBP, but it has never been able to connect.

  • Problem with playing video via composite av cable on iPod classic 2009 model 160gb

Things went well, after  purchasing the new Ipod classic 160 gb i tryied to watch movies on my LED TV via Composite AV Cable.  I did it once. Everything worked correctly & I was able to see my photoes, watch movies.  Today i tryied to connect it again to the TV via av composite cable. The TV Out was switched on. But i could hear only audio. No video. I tryied all possible configs for Ipod an for tv set & no result. If i choose on my Ipod to ask me  first if i want to switch on the AV out, the Ipod shows me a message that i should connect the video accessory (but it  is already connected!). If i choose simply to switch on the TV Out without asking  me it will play either sound only on the TV, either the playback on the Ipod is ending after 20 seconds of show time.
Without AV Cable connected Ipod is working normaly in terms of video playback. Also the device is working normally with the ITunes.
Please help. Where is the problem. The AV composite cable? TV set? Or iPod itself?

    Hi Rusbug,
I am having the same issue with my iPod Classic 160gb not playing video on the TV via Composite cable as you posted in march!
did you get a solution for the issue??
desperate to know what to do next.
    thanks

  • Connecting my Touch via the USB cable

I am connecting the Touch to my car via the usb cable as it has a built in ipod app. The car recognises the Touch and I can access all the menus and songs, select what I want to play and play the song, all from the car controls. The only problem is that the music plays from the Touch instead of through the car. Any ideas? It is a 32Gb Ipod Touch running 3.1.3. Any help appreciated.

What Carolyn says is correct. You can, however, share an Internet connection with your iPhone wirelessly by turning in Internet sharing (found in System Preferences > Sharing.) If your MacBook Pro is already using a wireless connection, you can just connect to the same wireless network it is using.
    Best of luck.

  • Cable to ((Digitally)) connect iPod to Hi-Fi?

Here's the problem: Our back deck is rather old and tends to move abit as people walk across it. When the iPod is in it's cradle in the Hi-Fi, it tends to wiggle quite a bit. So, I'm wondering if I can ((Digitally)) connect the iPod - via a Dock connector - to the the toslink input jack on the back of the Hi-Fi. This would allow me to simply lie the iPod down on top of the Hi-Fi so that I don't have to worry about it toppling off. I'd prefer doing this digitally via the dock connector rather than simply using headphone jack as the output. Why? I'm a bit of an audiophile-neurotic and want to preserve the signal as much as possible. I guess what I'd need is a Dock connector - to - toslink connector cable, but I my Apple Store search turned up nothing.

    Hello Syd,
As far as I know, the iPod does not carry any digital signal output with both the headphone jack and dock connector.
Therefore, at the moment you cannot find any iPod dock connector with a digital optical output.
Hope the next generation of iPod will include the digital output as well.
However, you can buy a Airport Express, links it with your computer via WiFi, then you can use a digital cable with both ends of mini-jack digital to connect AirPort express with your iPod HiFi. But it will loss all the remote function.
I have not tried it myself, therefore I am not sure about the sound quality in this way.
By the way, I have bought a GriffinXpressCable (for Airport Express to HiFi), and I will try to have a test later on.

  • Hi, I want to use my Capsule just as a back up via wireless. How do I set this up without connecting it with an ethernet cable to either a router or the iMac??

Hi, I want to use my Capsule just as a back up via wireless. How do I set this up without connecting it with an ethernet cable to either a router or the iMac??

I misunderstood what Time Capsule is and had hoped for a wireless backup device that didn't have to be connected to the router.
The TC is a wireless backup device.. it does not need to be connected to the main router..
The problem is the computer.. not the TC.. the computer has only one wireless card.. if your current internet is by wireless.. then you must choose.. internet or backup.
But my other suggestion will work.. get a wireless USB stick compatible with Mac OS.. there are plenty and cheap.. since you are in the same room as the TC they will work fine.. plug it in and load the driver.. taint hard.
You should do the first backup by ethernet though.. wireless is too slow.. once you have that, you will do fine.
Search ebay for wireless n usb.. Mac compatible..
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-EDUP-Mini-Wireless-11N-300M-USB-LAN-Card-WiFi-Adapte r-Nano-Card-Soft-AP-/150864362939?pt=US_USB_Wi_Fi_Adapters_Dongles&hash=item2320 377dbb#ht_3553wt_1165
As you can see.. they are getting smaller and neater.
I have no idea if it works .. haven't tried one.. but I have used USB wireless stick on the Mac to overcome this issue.
You will need to set static IP .. not hard but you need to set specifics if you do buy one post again for the setup.
