Connecting iPod "What if...?" Curiosity
Hi,
I was asked by a friend today if he could leave his iPod video with me for a while so that I could plug it into my iBook and charge it up for him until he came back to get it. I was very hesitant on doing so because:
a) The settings for my own personal iPod mini include automatic update. I feared that any songs that his ipod and my ibook did not have in common would be erased from his iPod until he automatically updated when got home to restore his music, photos, videos, etc.
b) He uses his iPod video with Windows XP and under iPod>Settings>About it said "Format: WINDOWS". If I plugged in his iPod to my Mac, wouldn't it reformat and optimize the file system and drive on the iPod to comply with Macintosh and no longer windows?
So, did I have anything to worry about this morning? Would my fears of messing up his iPod video have become realities? Thanks. I have been asked this question (to steal my battery life to charge a friend's iPod) many times and I'm very curious even myself.

It wouldn't just start updating. You'd get a message indicating that his iPod was linked to another library, and it would ask you if you wanted to replace the contents of his iPod with your iTunes library. When you get that message... make sure you answer NO.

No. Nothing would happen automatically. A Mac can read a Windows formatted iPod.
> So, did I have anything to worry about this morning?
Not really.
> Would my fears of messing up his iPod video have
become realities?
Depends on how you answered that message which pops up in your first question

My ipod 5th gen ios 7.0.6 crashed and keeps going from the apple logo, going to a black screen, back to the apple logo, then back to the black screen and so on. Furthermore, my laptop doesn't recognise that the iPod is connected. What do I do?
Please help me out as this is very irritating. This has been happening for the last 20-30 minutes. It had roughly half battery left.Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have an ipod touch first generation and it is telling me to connect to itunes but it isn't recognized by itunes when i try to connect it. what do i do?
Try disabling your security software and turning off the Firewall on your PC.
Disable antivirus software
Turn Windows Firewall on or off
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows <--- definitely try the instructions for resetting the AMDS. -

In the process of turing it on it froze with the apple screen and now wont turn back on. I plugged it into the computer but it wont connect. What should i do?
Hold the home button and sleep button down together for 16 second when device is on. This will reset it in DPU mode which completely shuts of device. Once it has loaded it should be fixed

I tried to connect ipod tocuh to windows xp laptop but cant get it to be recognized by itunes and it has problems connecting to the computer itself.it can connect to the other laptop though.
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
Are these requirements met ?
Is the PC virus-free ?
is XP at SP3 ?
Has it any other issues with USB hardware in general ? -
Hi! I sold my Iphone on ebay. The seller wants to connect the Iphone with his Apple ID, but it did not work because it says that the Iphone is already connected with another Apple ID. How can I get rid of this old connection? What do I have to do?

I bought an ipod 4g at a pawn shop, it was locked and disabled but the guy said I could restore it by connecting it to my computer and pressing the home and sleep buttons at the same time, it didn't work and he won't take back the ipod what do i do?
When I try connecting it to my computer itunes opens and says I cannot connect to the ipod because it is disabled, enter passcode on ipod. The ipod is locked and disabled and will not allow me to try and put in a passcode, which I wouldn't be able to do because I have no idea what it might have been.
I downloaded the newest version of Itunes, restarted computer, connected ipod, nothing, held every button down for what seems like forever, nothing. I think I have been screwed by the pawnshop. Is there anyway of restoring this thing or is now just a $60.00 paperweight?torreto44. that does not work with a Disabled iPod. Jim's gave the correct answer for a Disabled iPod

I am trying to update my iPod touch to the new iOS, but the error message "An error has occurred while backing up this iPod (0xE800067)" and asks me if I want to continue (which will "result in the loss of all contents on this iPod"); what is the problem?

After 2.0 Update "iTunes could not connect iPod error (0xE8000001)?
I've downloaded the 2.0 update for my iTouch... after the installer had finished its work it alerted me that the iTouch was rebooting and would appear in iTunes. However, I got this error message instead:
"iTunes could not connect iPod unknown error occured (0xE8000001)". I'm not sure if I should disconnect the USB or not.. or what is going on. Any suggestions?
Thanks!Sweet! The power of the collective on the web...
Jeff - try this, worked great -
unfortunately i lost all my info on my touch when doing this, but I can dedicate some time tonight to resetting my wallpaper, my mail settings, etc.
i think the 'DFU' in these instructions means device firmware upgrade...found this on another forum where people complaining of same problem...
1. Hold both the home and power buttons until the device turns off
2. EXACTLY one second after the iPod turns off, release the sleep/wake button, holding the home button still ( the apple logo SHOULD NOT BE ON ).
3. In about 20 seconds, you will see your iPod appear in iTunes, but the screen on your iPod will still be off. You are now in DFU mode.
4. RELEASE the home button as soon as your iPod appears iTunes. If you fail to do so, your iPod will simply go back into recovery mode.
yo Apple - please roll out some info on this 'known issue'; While $9.95 isn't a budget-breaker, if you have to figure out how to make that $9.95 work on your Apple device like it appears some of us are, it speaks to posting something in Support about it - thanks! -

how to connect iPod Classic to bluetooth dongle?
You would need to make sure the dongle supports the same Bluetooth profiles that are supported by your car's stereo system which is commonly the A2DP profile. So first figure out what profiles are supported by the car's stereo system.
