Can I use airport express in a wired network to play music through my stereo?

I originally used my 1st gen AE to wirelessly stream music from iTunes on my MacPro to my home theater. This works, but there are some good days and some bad days where there are dropouts in the music. I have recently run Cat6 cable to my HT from my router next to my MacPro. This feeds a Gigabit switch that feeds the ATV, receiver, bluray, HD DVD, etc. I plugged in the AE to the switch but it still defaults to the wifi network rather than taking a feed from the ethernet switch. I know i can (and do) use the ATV (gen 1) to steam music, but sometimes it more convenient to use the AE. Is there a way to force the wifi on the AE off and just have it for streaming from iTunes? Yes, you can configure an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a standalone wireless router without Internet access for the purposes of providing a Wi-Fi network for streaming. Note that any computers that will be the host of that stream would need to connect to this AX's wireless network while doing so. They would not be able to be connected to two wireless networks simultaneously for both streaming AND Internet access.

Automatically connects to sync and will start playing music all the time even when not using sync

Try resetting it if you can: hold the on/off and home buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the off slider that appears first), then release. If you can't, try to connect it to iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your sync settings and click Restore to restore it. If that doesn't work you'll have to force it into recovery mode to restore it as outlined here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.
You can check in iTune to see if you have a backup. They are listed in iTunes>Preferences>Devices. However, the backup may not bring your contacts back as contacts are only backed up as necessary to preserve the recent call and call favorites lists.

Itouch randomly unpauses and starts playing music.

Hopefully someone can help with this one, I've done a bit of googling and havent found anything yet so fingers crossed.
I generally listen to my Itouch at night when im in bed ready to go to sleep, press pause button and then press the button to turn the screen off.
so far so good,
at some point the next day (havent been able to nail down an exact time yet) the itouch will suddenly start playing music randomly ie not the tune or even album i was listening to the night before. although that might be because ive only noticed it playing a good while after it started.
only way i've found to fix it is to turn it off completely, which is obviously a pain in the bum and would like to know why it does it.
anyone got any ideas?

I just got my iPod touch 32GB 3rd gen for graduation, an mine is doing the exact same thing. I'll pause it to go bed or watch a movie, and suddenly it will start playing music. The only way I've found that it will not do this is to just unplug your headphones before going to sleep. That somehow works. And exit out of your music app to just the regular home page. That's just a home remedy. I really want to find out what's up as well.

Is it possible to wirelessly connect iphone 4 to an audio device such as PC or speakers to play music.
I'd like to be able to be in a room where I can use my iphone to wirelessly change the song, volume etc of my PC and or stereo.

It is possible to stream audio via Bluetooth to devices that support A2DP streaming. Your computer or stereo would have to have Bluetooth and support this feature.
There is also an iTunes Remote app available in the App store that allows you to control your iTunes library on your computer from your iDevice.

I use small audio adaptor like this one http://www.audiogear.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?key=Adpt2Rf-Mnsp&preadd=action . Usually the HIfI has AUX free line. This line you can use for music listening.
It is also nice when I play the games. I like it very much.

Itouch shuts out of currently playing music to main screen

I got my Itouch about 3 months ago, and just in the last few days my ipod(no damage at all), while im playing a song, will shut out without warning and go back to the main menu. It does it while i run, it does it while i have it plugged into my car, it does it when I am just sitting and listening to it. What could be the reason for this? should i send it back?

Connection iTouch to Remote Audio using Airport

I have audio equipment connected to my Airport WiFi and play music on my computer using the Remote Speakers feature in iTunes. Is it possible to connect my iTouch via WiFi in a similar fashion?

Why do my ATV's play music sourced from a computer OK but when the same computer plays the same library through Airplay to the same ATV's the streaming breaks down?

Does anyone know why my ATV's (connected to AV & hifi systems) can play music from a computer OK but when I try to use the same computer and library and play them through the same ATV's using Airplay the streaming often breaks down? Although I could live with the current situation I am missing the opportunity for simultaneous multi-zone playing with single volume control via the Remote App on my iPhoneS. Just find it curious as all the elements of the system are the same, ATV's, computer, router etc and would have expected the quality and efficiency to be the same under both modes of operation.

Yes, the quality and efficiency of the audio should be the same for both methods. The fact that it isn't may suggest that you have a problem on your network. Have you checked for interference.

Airport express base station with HI-FI to play music, how to do this.

I have an airport express base station and would like to know if I can use it to connect to my Home Theater and play music from my iTunes and or ipad/iphone (or Sonos), and how would I do this if so.

Once setup the airport express can be used by any wireless device. The actual OS or firmware it is running is irrelevant.
So simple.. set up the airport express in whatever role you want them.. I cannot give you details since you have not given any info on how you want to use them.
Once setup say to play music to a speaker.. the Mac will be able to find the device.. airport utility will see the device .. it is simply that Apple decided you cannot configure it.
If you want details, then we need full details of the network.. and how you intend to use the express.

Connect to Existing Wireless Network Using AE and 2WIRE Home Portal

I would like to use my airport express to connect to an existing wireless network set up in my place, I got a pc wireless network connected with a 2Wire Homeportal 1000HW.
I've tried with the Assitant in both options, just joining the network to play music or joining the network to extend the range and nothing works, always the AE disappears.
Can I do that with my home portal or I need a different one?
If I need a new one what should I buy, my provider is SBC (DSL)

I am on a Mac and can do this with my 2Wire 1000SW. Not sure what the difference is, but I imagine it's just speed (mine is 802.11b). The reference to another posting on the 2Wire says that you must disable WEP. I have all my security still in place. When I run the setup utility and ask it to join my existing network (2Wire Network), it asks for my WEP and runs from there.

How to play music on iTunes through Hi-Fi

I have now loads of music on my iTunes. Previously I used a netgear MP 101 connected wirelessly to an XP machine to connect to my Hi Fi and play music.
Now every thing is on iTunes is there a way to do the same thing? I know the MP 101 will not work with apple, so any ideas?....Please

When I put my 4th gen iPod Touch in my iPod dock it makes the sound and charges but when I play music it is silent. Help?

The volume slider at the bottom disappears, so it is connected and my iPod dock will play music on my old 4th Gen iPod Touch. My new iPod will play fine through headphones, the internal speaker and one other iPod dock I have tried. I have restarted it (home and lock keys), reset and backed it up and this problem existed when it was on iOS6 (have updated it to iOS6.1 - problem still exists). Any help or suggestions welcome!!

However, sometimes an iOS update will break conpatibility and you will have to wair for an update to either the iOS or the dock firmware.

Since upgrading my iPhone 4 to IOS6 it no longer plays music through the Apple Dock

Since I have upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS 6 it no longer plays music through the Apple Dock.
The dock still charges the phone, no error messages appear on the screen when I connect it but when trying to play music the sound just comes out of the speakers on the phone and not through the connected dock.
I have obviously tried a reset (power and home button together) as suggested for fixing other sound issues people seem to be experiencing but this made no difference.
Any help would be appreciated!

Why would there be a fix? YOU are having the problem. I'm not, no one I know is having the problem. No fix is needed.
Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new. Have you been through any, if not all of these troubleshooting steps yet?
