Connecting laptop to WRT350N and wireless security

Hi, I have the following problem. I need to connect a laptop to WRT350N router. Everything works OK if I do NOT use wireless security. If I use PSK (WAP) then at the Preferred Network screen I set the settings to WAP/PSK and enter the shared key. However, this setting is overruled again and again. I can not save it. If I select my network from the networklist, many times the laptop doesn't even ask for the shared key. And if it does then it acts as if I have installed WEP on the router (which isn't the case!). I use Windows XP Home. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to solve it? Many thank, JFX

I have a second laptop connected to the router which works ok with both the non-secured and the WAP/PSK-secured environment. The one that is not working is a Sony Vaio with LAN-express AS 802.111g card for which I have the latest driver installed. For the WRT350N also the latest firmware installed (WRT350N v2 firmware 2.016) JFX

  • Been losing connection for magic mouse and wireless keyboard

When I have my MBP running Mavericks in clamshell mode, I lose connections to both magic mouse and apple wireless keyboard in clamshell mode. I've tried all the PRAM SCM, aluminum foil and paper tricks. What I then did was test what happens when I leave the MBP open rather than in clamshell mode and it appears to avoid losing connection, at least that is what I've concluded with Mavericks for now..... anyone else able to replicate this? Having to leave the MBP open is not ideal.

Barry, thanks, still not working.  I've tried every thing I can think of or have read, what I'm concluding is that there is either a problem with Mavericks or something has changed on how bluetooth works in Mavericks. Did not have this problem for the last 4 years. I can reproduce the problem when I close the laptop. I had the Bluetooth and wireless card checked out and replaced about 3 weeks ago. Problem has continued.

  • Resetting and wireless security...

    hi there,
last night i got my AEBS and after setting it up it worked fine and dandy. But today within the last hour i realised there is no wireless security when i could have sworn i set it up when i did the airport utility. so i went to set up wireless security and still on system preferences it does not show up that it has wireless security.
Also after resetting the base station after clicking 'update' the base station doesnt usually reappear unless i manually reconnect to it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
oh and while i'm on here, I have connected my AEBS to my 802.11g/b router i used as it has a built in modem. The wireless network works fine on it and I have set my AEBS to 802.11n only, does this mean i am okay running both wireless networks?

oh can i also just slip in there my macbook doesn't think my router has a wpa2 key even though i set it on my base station. my base station says wireless security is on. regardless of weather its in my keychain or not. i have changed it a fair few times...

  • WRT54G keeps resetting the SSID name and wireless security

Over the past few weeks, my WRT54G (which I've had for about 18 months) has been resetting itself by changing the SSID name back to the default "linksys" and losing wireless security. I have updated the firmware.
Any ideas of what is going on here?
    Thanks.

After a firmware upgrade, you must reset the router to factory defaults, then setup the router again from scratch.  If you saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.
Routers seem to be sensitive to electrical surges and noise. This can cause them to loose their settings. You should keep your router plugged into a high quality surge suppressor with EMI/RFI filtering, such as the Belkin SurgeMaster Gold Series. A surge suppressor alone is not enough because surge suppression does not start until the voltage exceeds 330 volts. Alternatively, most UPS devices have both surge suppression and EMI/RFI filtering.
If this does not prevent your router from "forgetting" its settings, then the router is malfunctioning, and it should be replaced. A router that forgets its settings is not secure.

  • Connecting laptop to TV 42VL863B wirelessly - nearly there

    Hey all,
Ok, I bought a toshiba wireless adapter for my TV. It works just fine, I can connect to the internet - excellent.
But I want more, moooooore (c:
I managed to get my laptop connected to the TV, using the network device setup on the TV. I Set media renderer to on and found my laptop in media controller setup.
Noooww... using Windows Media Player (I'm on win 8, if this matters) I can send mp3 to the tv wirelessly, but when I try to send a mp4 or AVI I get a "Media is nor supported by device" in my laptop... if I try to send it anyway the TV says "media playback error"
Of course, I can play mp4 and avi in WMP in my laptop... the issue only happens when I try to "send to" the TV. Weardly, if I put the mp4 or avi in a memory stick and plug it behind the tv, it works fine...
So, what do I need to do?
    Thanks!

    Hi RLjr.;
    > Sounds like S-video to me wylbur, that would be a better quality than VGA.
It seems u_hsn disagrees, but no matter. I'll take one of each cable, then use whichever one
gives me the best picture.   :-)
    > If you have S-video on your TV, I would connect it that way.   But don't forget the audio.
    > The easiest solution is to buy a cable that has a headphone jack on one end, then splits
    > to the red and white jacks on the other end.  You can buy that cable at BB or most other
    > retailers.  The official name for that cable I believe is called a "mini jack to RCA" cable.
Got it - or I now know what to get (I should say).
    > Hope this helps!
    It certainly does - thanks!!!

  • Connect to Airport Express and Wireless Router (Linksys) at the same time?

I have a laptop that connects to a Linksys wireless G (WRT54G) router. I just got an Airport Express to play iTunes wirelessly over my stereo. Is there a way to connect to both the Linksys router and the Airport at the same time - i.e., connect to the internet as I was over the wireless router AND send music wirelessly from my laptop to my stereo using the Airport Express at the same time?

  • HP CP1525nw - Connect via wired network and wireless ad hoc?

At my job we have our HP 1525nw printer connected into the network printserver via ethernet cable.  The printer has its own IP address setup on the network.
With support for XP computers ceasing, a copule of computers will be cut off/blocked from the job's network.  One computer is close enough where we can make a USB connection to print.  Another is located on another bench.  Furthermore, the one that is further away from the printer also can't be upgraded to a compliant Windows OS due to incompatibility with specialized software used to operate equipment hooked up to this computer.
Is it at all possible for this wired network printer to also be setup to print wireless via an ad hoc connection?  The idea was perhaps we could install a wireless card on thix XP computer and  print wirelessly via a direct connection to the printer, avoiding having to connect to it via the wired network at all.  But it is sounding like this wouldn't be possible.  Looking for a direct answer before I start shopping around for a wireless PCI card.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

From other posts I have read, I think the CP1525 can be either ethernet or wireless not both at the same time.  That will prevent you from setting up with an adhoc network the way you described.
You might try an inexpensive wireless router with a build in print server attached to the usb port.  then add wireless USB wireless dongles to the XP computers.  Be sure you make sure that the wireless dongles support XP. Also for security purposes you will want to leave the wireless router disconnected from your network.
If your fairly tecky and you don't mind playing a bit you could check your local thrift store for a used router with a print server.  For printing you don't need the fastest wireless available.  Just make sure it is a b/g router (not a B only one).

  • Problem connecting laptop to printer via wireless connection

I installed my HP Photosmart D110 series and the printer is not detecting my wireless internet (which is a Verizon Wireless card) . I only know the basics when it comes to computers, internet, etc. Therefore, this might be a completely stupid question, but is it possible to connect only through my Verizon card or do I need to purchase a router as well?
When I print my Wireless Network Test Report from my printer it tells me that it's recommended to change my network name to make it unique? I have no idea how to do this. And is it even applicable here?
I would greatly appreciate some feedback here.Thank you!

    OK,
    1. On the printer: Setup > Network > Reset network Defaults
    2. On your PC, go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.  Look for a wireless network that starts with 'hp" or "HP".  Join it.  There is no password.  On the printer: Setup > Network > WIreless Network Test.
    3. Now, in Start > Control Panel > Printers, Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.

  • How do i connect a wired pc, and wireless nb to same network?

is it possible to connect my desktop to a network with a wireless notebook without adding a wireless card to the desktop? I have a wrt54g wireless router.

On the back of the router you should have 4 ethernet output ports.  If your desktop has a ethernet adapter all you need is a ethernet cable.  This BTW is the prefered configuration as you will always have communication with the router even if there are wireless problems.

  • Connection problem w/ wired and wireless

My internet service comes in via cable and goes to my modem. In then goes to my Belkin router. At a friends suggestion, I added an Airlink switch. From there, I split off to a wired G4 and an Airport Express.
Despite several system resets, I can't get any connection on my wired G4. When I take the switch out of the chain, I can connect the G4 and the Airport Express but, the AE connect goes dead when the G4 is shutdown.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Hey jrmprod
Modem>belkin router> Airlink switch < split to AE and ethernet .</div>
Hmm, very interesting post. Your existing Ethernet network already has a router sharing your Internet connection, so you simply need to switch the AirPort Express into bridge mode. See this Apple Article for more info ... http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21540 & more info about the AE ... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1515?viewlocale=en_US

    Hi,
It's quite possible that there is a hardware fault with the capacitive strip - is your notebook still under warranty?
Regarding the Audio controls, try the following and let me know..
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp48501-49000/sp48668.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.
