Connecting Lenovo T400 to Samsung BX2240, 1920*1080 resolution

Hello!
I have a Lenovo T400, and am planning to get an external monitor to connect to the thinkpad. I am thinking of getting the 21.5" Samsung BX2240, with a 1920*1080 resolution. Would this monitor be compatible with the Lenovo T400, given that it only has a VGA port? I'm planning to get this from Ebay. So, I don't really know where else I could possibly ask this question, as I can't seem to find this monitor in the shops. Many thanks.

Thanks Lead_Org! That's what I was worried about, possibly fuzzy/blurry images. So, an advanced mini dock should solve the problem?
Will this one work with the T400?

JDay: The DVI adaptor will do the same job as the advanced mini dock?
Thanks!

  • Screen tearing at 1920*1080 resolution on samsung tv.

Today I bought a display port to vga adapter so I could use my macbook pro in collaboration with my tv. I find that just moving the cursor or anything causes vsync like related screen tearing. Is there anyway I could stop this from happening?
The specs of my macbook pro are:
    13", mid 2010
    2.66ghz Intel core 2 duo
    6gb 1067mhz DDR3
    Nvidia Geforce 320m 256mb

    Hi-
If the graphics card firmware does not have resolution support needed for a particular monitor, it won't show as an option.
    You can create new, custom resolutions using SwitchResX;
    http://www.madrau.com/whatis/whatis.html
I've seen screen shots online where users have the option to choose 1080i or 1080p. This would be ideal!
The difference between 1080p vs 1080i is not something to worry about.

Which graphics card do you have enabled? The integrated Intel or discrete ATI? Which OS? Latest drivers?

  • When I connect a second monitor and change the solution so 1920*1080 the format ist 4:3 not 16:9

I connected a second display via mini display port to VGA adapter.
it works good, but when i change the solution to 1920 *1080 its only 4:3 not 16:9.

    Hi William
In iDVD selct file - new.  From the dropdown menu name your project, enter where you want to save it, select aspect ratio 16:9, save.
The templates you choose could be 14:9 or 4:3.  If you select a 4:9 for a 16:9 project you'll be prompted by asking if you want to change or keep. Make sure to keep original aspect ratio.
You should be able to  setup a 1pm, 3pm, 5pm menu in iDVD provided you exported the QT file with chapter markers. The chapter markers should be at these times.  Don't set the marker right at the start or end of a frame.

i think the dvi on the docking station is only dvi out not in which means the laptop screen can not be used as a second screen.

  • How to upgrade a Lenovo T400

    Hi,
I currently own Lenovo T400. Though I'm not that satisfied with its performance in terms of speed and all. I was wondering what exactly do I have to upgrade if I want it to perform faster. Is it the processor?
    My current system -
    Processor: Intel core Duo CPU T400 @ 2.53GHz 2.53GHz
    Installed Memory (RAM) : 4GB

So you only have an issue with this one program?
What type of machine are the other users running the program on?
Random lockups could be one of many different things. The first thing I would suspect would be a conflict with an anti-virus program, as it looks like you have sufficient RAM. Next thing I would suspect would be some kind of driver issue.

  • Internal Microphone in Lenovo T400 - Doesn't work

    Hello everyone!
Thanks for your attention and reading this thread,
Since I made a rescue and recovery from my laptop, after a while I did it, my internal microphone stopped working, and yesterday with Lenovo online support we did everything in hand to try and solve it but apparently the next step is to take it to technical support and frankly that takes a lot of time not to mention the problems I have with them after it such as lots of missing screws in the laptop frame.
What we did was to test it, uninstall the Conexant driver, download new one, install, update Windows, nothing fixed it.
However, as a suggestion I did another recovery again, but Microphone is still dead.
    The external microphone works perfectly.
And since I've been reading that other people have the same problem, from what I can see it just seems to be a Conexant software problem?
I've got Windows 7 Pro, Lenovo T400, High Definition Audio (after I uninstalled Conexant and still no luck with internal microphone of High Audio?) I don't know what other information can be useful to solve this?
Is it possible that a Windows setting is interefering?
Thank you very much for your response,
    Sincerely,
    Eduardo

Maybe the hardware broke? Get an Ubuntu live USB or live CD and boot into it. Try to record sounds from there.

  • Lenovo T400, slow!!!

Hello every one and happy new year..
I bough the Lenovo T400 4 months ago (October 2008) and I’m on VISTA Business. Although
I have 3GB of RAM and 2*2.8GHz CPU my PC is very slow and has loads of
problems. The Think Vantage Wi-Fi program is messing up the Microsoft one,
Firefox stops responding many times and when I tried to install  Linux
    ubuntu I couldn’t because of a graphic fault(card: ATI HD 3400 series).
    Any help??
    Thanks

From my experience with T or X Thinkpads: stick to ThinkVantage Access Connection instead of Microsoft one, or u can remove Access Connection if you don't like it. If you can afford the trouble (u seem to be wiping out the hard drive for OS reinstall anyway), recover the factory setup from Rescue*&Recovery. After that, you should see a reasonably working machine (like factory software setting). Otherwise, you would seriously need to locate what is wrong (or even send it to Lenovo for maintanence). With the software, particularly OS, messed up, it's very hard to identify the problem. Hope it helps.

  • Lenovo T400 cannot authenticate with WRE54G

I recently got a new Thinkpad (Lenovo T400) and am having trouble getting it to authenticate with my Range Expander (WRE54G).  My Xbox360 and my wife's laptop have no trouble authenticating with Static WEP but I cannot.  If I move towards my Router (WRT54GS) and select that access point it authenticates and picks up an IP address no problem.  What's up?  Thanks.

Which operating system you are using on the laptop ?
Which wireless card you are using on the laptop ?
If you are able to see the network name on your laptop but unable to connect then you can try updating the wireless adapter of your laptop as your other wireless devices are working fine.

  • Lenovo T400 Wireless Conncetion Problem!

Hi, I have a Lenovo T400 Laptop. Recently, I got some problems in connecting to wireless networks. My laptop can find available wireless networks. I can see "Access Connections" menu with available networks. When I click on "Connect" to access a network, a menu bar appears showing that WIFI is trying to connect to the network. However, after a couple of minutes the connection fails in "waiting for IP configuration" step. I tried it with different networks and got the same problem. I would be very grateful if someone can help me about this problem. Regards, Ali

Okay, that sounds like a faulty intel wireless card, i had couple of them doing that. Do you have warranty remaining?

  • Cannot connect Macbook Air to Samsung TV via HDMI

Hello, I have been completely unable to get my Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011, running OS X 10.9.1) to connect to my new Samsung TV (UN32EH5000F)  I feel like I have tried everything I can think of, have spent hours now looking for a solution online.  I also consulted Samsung tech support, who were not helpful in that they insisted the problem is with my Macbook (because the HDMI port on the TV works when I hook up my DVD player).
I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air to the TV using a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Compatible) to HDMI cable.  I have gotten the connection to work on my LG monitor (via the same HDMI cable), but this did require some switching back and forth between sources before it would appear as an external monitor on my Mac and doesn’t seem to work reliably.  Sometimes I can get the LG monitor to work as an external display over HDMI and sometimes I can’t.
I have also gotten the TV to work ONCE on my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008, running 10.9) by plugging the cable into the Mini DisplayPort while the computer was asleep.  I have not been able to replicate this in many tries since that first time.
When I insert either end of the cable (either into the TV or the Macbook Air), the screen flashes as if recognizing that the cable is plugged in, but the TV always says "No Signal."
    I have also tried:
Every possible combination of plugging in cables
Shutting down my Mac and the TV and rebooting
Switching the source on my TV back and forth
Plugging the HDMI cable into both ports on the TV
Changing the name of the HDMI source on my TV (to available options like "PC", "DVI", "DVI PC", etc.)
    Battery power and AC adaptor
Resetting the PRAM and the SMC
Using the Option button in Display preferences to click “Detect Displays”
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • ATI HD3400 in Lenovo T400: xf86-video-ati from testing docking issues

    Hi everyone,
I have a Lenovo T400 which I exclusively use with the discrete ATI HD3400 graphics chip because I need the DVI output from my Lenovo Advanced Mini Dock to drive a large display. When I recently updated to xf86-video-ati 6.9.0.91-1 (from testing), everytime I start X and the laptop is in the dock, all that happens is that the whole internal screen shows one full-screen color, cycling white->red->green->blue->grey->vertical black/white gradient->horizontal black/white gradient, and the external DVI display is ignored. The internal display is fine when I start X in the undocked state, until I put it into the dock and enable the DVI-out via xrandr (VGA-out seems to work fine, curiously).
6.9.0-6 (from extra) shows no problems. Pity this happens right now that one can expect more from the open-source drivers due to AMD's publication of the hardware spec...
Has anyone encountered a similar problem or knows where to file a bug most appropriately?
    Thanks in advance,
    S.

R00KIE wrote:Why don't you try the ATI binary drivers? Sure they aren't what we all would want them to be but at the current time they have support for more things than the open source drivers.
Do they support xrandr 1.2 now for using multiple displays easily? Last time I played around with them (in October) this was still a pain and ugly hacks were necessary to get multi-head to work. Otherwise I would have switched long before.

  • Lenovo T400 (4500MHD): Xorg 7.4, xf86-video-intel-2.4.3 upgrade

    hi!
I would like to ask you if anyone with an lenovo t400 has done a successful upgrade to xorg 7.4 with xf86-video-intel-2.4.3 and intel-dri-7.2-1. I'm still using xf86-video-intel-2.3.2-1 and intel-dri-7.0.3-1, though I'm not completely satisfied with it (sometimes X does not start, suspend doesn't work anymore).
I've read a lot about upgrading troubles and I would really appreciate sharing your experience.
    thanks in advance,
    woifi

    woifi,
I have the same machine and the upgrade to Xorg and xf86-video-intel make my machine not able to come back from a suspend/hibernate. The screen comes back, but everything is frozen. I have been able, however, to use the "vesa" driver in Xorg and get suspend/hibernate to work then. I can't use Compiz then, but I would rather have suspend than Compiz at this point. I'm hoping that the novelty of this machine and the Intel GMA 4500HD are causing the wrinkles in the drivers.
