Connecting Linksys WRT610N to WRT160N

Hi,
I was hoping someone could help me with configuring my network which I'm new at. What I have down stairs in my office is a Linksys WRT610N router which is connected to the socket my broadband comes through and my PC. The router is also connected to my WD My Book World Edition.
Upstairs I have a WRT160N router which I have connected to my WD TV Live. What I want to do is be able to access the WD My Book World Edition downstairs on my WD TV Live which is upstairs.
When I previously tried to network the WRT160N router I had it connected to the broadband socket which I also have upstairs but have been told this will not work.
In layman's terms, I would like the WRT610N which is downstairs to talk to the WRT160N I have upstairs wirelessly and for the WD TV Live to be able to access the WD My Book World Edition through that network so I can access videos and music on it.
I've tried various combinations but I don't seem to end up any further foreword so any help would be appreciated.

Configuring WRT610N and WRT160N wirelessly is not possible. In case if you want to configure it you need to connect the Ethernet cable from the port number one of your WRT610N router to WRT160N to do so follow this link .

Your firmware is corrupt with a flashing power light.  Follow one of these two to restore your router.

  • WPS push button on the Linksys WRT610N router does not work. Please help.

    Hi,
I am facing problems of the WPS Push Button on the Linksys WRT610N version 2.0 router which has stopped working. I don't see the Blue LED blinking. The WPS button no more works on the router. It was working before. I did a firmware upgrade. Could this be the cause?
Please help me in solving this issue at the earliest.
    Leo.

when you reset the router, did you notice that your network name changed?
also check the settings on the router if the wps is enabled.
with a computer wired to the router, are you able to go online?
follow the instructions in this page to setup wps

  • IMAC and Linksys WRT610N

Received my Linksys WRT610N router last night. Hooked it up and had a minor problem setting it up. Turned out to be my DSL ISP setting. After I figured it out though I got my IMAC running via the 5.0 GHz 802.11N side and my Iphone 3G, IPOS Touch and my Sony laptop running in about 5 minutes each. Just want to say that the IMAC and the WRT610N seem to work real good together.

I think you tried to change the wireless settings of the router using a wireless computer.
Do not change the wireless settings using a wireless computer. Use a computer which is wired to the router.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab.
Change the configuration view to manual. Change the wireless channel to 11. keep the network mode to Mixed. Change the wireless network name SSID ( create a new wireless network). Save the settings.
Click on wireless security sub tab. Change the security mode to WPA2 personal with AES. Enter the password for the wireless network. Save the settings.
Now try to connect to the new wireless network and see if that works.

  • Managing DSL modem (web interface) via Linksys WRT610N router.

I have a router WRT610N Version 1.0 connected to my DSL gateway (3wire). My PC is connected to WRT610N. All is working fine except: If I set Linksys Internet connection type in DHCP I am able to see my DSL modem (3wire) via web interface from my PC. But, if I set Linksys Internet connection type in PPPoE I can't connect to my DSL management web page from my PC via Linksys to DSL modem.
FYI, I need PPPoE for DDNS.
    Any idea?

Correct. If you configure PPPoE the modem is inaccessible because it works like a standard modem. That's normal. With PPPoE on the WRT the WRT is connected directly to the internet and there are not really any settings on the DSL modem/router which you have to change.

I'm looking for some help connecting linksys IP Cameras to my home network to monitor my property when I'm travelling.  I used to do this with linksys WAPS, but since I've discarded all my old linksys networking and standardized on airport, I can't get these things working.  I know that I have to identify my camera through the DHCP table and set up port forwarding and there is the problem.
My network consists of 4  base stations set up in a roaming network - same network name and passwords.  I need to do it this way so I don't have to switch network when I move from one side of the house to the other, go to the cabana, or my shop in the barn.  The network works pretty well since I went to a roaming set up.  Good performance, yata, yata, yata.
However, the roaming network requires the AEBS's to be set up in bridge mode, rather than sharing an ip address.  When the AEBS is set to  bridge mode, you don't see a DCHP table or have the ability to identify your IP Cam through the AEBS - and hence, no port forwarding.
I am able to identify and set up my Linksys IP Cam by locating the ip address on my FIOS router, even though, it's plugged into an AEBS.  I set it up, see the video, remove the ethernet cable from the IP Cam, restart - and I can't get to it from an AEBS.  In researching this, it appears, I should be setting up the AEBS to "share an IP Address", going to the DHCP table and identifying the camera's IP address and setting up port forwarding.  However, you don't see any of the DHCP or port forwarding options in Airport Network Utility when configuring in bridge mode.
I'm hoping I'm missing something here and that the solution isn't to set it up at the FIOS router level, but I'm beginning to think that's my only hope.  What concerns me there is that I should be able to see the IP cam on the network without port forwarding since I'm not coming from outside, and I can't even do this unless it's connected hard wire.
I'd appreciate any insight into this that anyone might have.  I've hit the wall with what I know.
    Thanks.

In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

  • Setting the time on Linksys WRT610N wireless router

Using a Linksys WRT610N, v1, latest firmware installed.
I have been working on wireless access permissions for specific times but, after testing, it appears the time is off 7 or 8 hours.  I checked the time zone and it is correct but I can't find anyplace to tell me what time the router thnks it is.
How do I tell what time the router thinks it is and how do I change the time?

Open the setup page of the router .
On the Basic Setup page at the bottom you will see the Time Zone settings .
Select the Time Zone in which you are .
See if that helps you .

  • How can you change the banner of the FTP-server on the Linksys WRT610N ?

    Dear readers,
My question is this : How can you change the banner of the FTP-server on the Linksys WRT610N ?
At present it says : "Welcome to WRT610 Router's FTP service" which gives away the type of the device.
Which is a clue I would rather hide. Besides that I would like to change it to something more personal.
But how do you do that ?
The UG is silent about this.
    Regards
    John

Try this to change FTP banner?
    * Login as admin
    * Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
    * Expand FTP sites (from tree view)
    * Right-click on the particular FTP site, select Properties
    * Click on the Messages tab
    * Setup new message
    * Save the changes

  • Incompatibility problems with mac mini MA206LL/A* and linksys WRT610N

i purchased a new wrt610n and one of the machines that is connected is a mac mini, 1.66 ghz intel core duo.
#ma2066/ll/a for those who want to compare notes. the computer is stock with the 802.11g wireless card that came with the machine. it is running the current software and all the updates are up to date.
    i am using wpa 2 personal w / aes
their is some kind of incompatibility or issue between the wrt610n and the mac mini.
either using the wireless connection OR connected directly to the router, web pages are very slow to load. sometimes it can take up to 45 seconds for the mac mini to open up a webpage. for 45 seconds it is at 'contacting website'
when i try to run software update, i get a time out error -1001, make sure you can connect to the internet and try again.
hulu desktop is also running slow.
copying a file from the mac mini to a another computer over wifi averages about 1 mb/s
when i informed linksys about this problem, they took my phone number and said that a linksys Technician / senior tech support employee would call me back. that was a day or so ago. i asked if i can have any newer firmware, considering the latest is 5 months old.
i am considering returning this router, but i don't see a lot of good alternatives that have similar features. i have 21 days to return this. the restocking fee will be 15% i am also considering various 802.11n solutions for the mac mini, even including the dell 1500 wireless mini card, i heard it works as an airport card.
if i do get a different model router i would like external antennas.
my previous router was a 5 year old wrt54gs version 2.0, and it never had a problem with any of the computers with the network.
the trouble shooting steps involved changing the beacon to 75 and the mtu to something else, i forgot. it did not make a difference.
i moved the mini and connected it wired to the wrt610 and turned off the airport wireless card and there was no improvement.
when i disconnected the wrt610n and connected the mac mini directly to my dsl modem. the issues were suddenly gone.
theres some kind of problem with this particular unit. and i would like to hear from others who have solved this or are experiencing the same problem

Just out of curiosity: what internet provider do you have? I'm just asking since I had similar issues after switching from AT&T DSL to AT&T U-verse. Sometimes pages took a very long time to load, or just a part or image of the page. Sometimes I would get a page not found error or something like this and only refreshing the page several times would retrieve and display the actual page.
Here's what I did: I went into my iMac's network preferences and switched the DNS server IP with one from OpenDNS.com, such as 208.67.222.222.
Since then I haven't had these issues anymore. Don't ask me why though; but I would be curious to hear whether this may fix your issue as well!

  • Trying to connect a WRT610N and a wrt54gs2

I have a wrt610n and a wrt54gs2 w/speedboost and for the life of me i cannot figure out how to make these two routers operate on the same network...im am trying to have the 54gs2 act as a signal booster but they will not communicate wirelessly. 1st off is it possible and if so can you help?

A Linksys WRT wireless router won't connect wireless to other wireless access points. A WRT won't operate as wireless bridge or wireless repeater.
Check if you can install 3rd party firmware like dd-wrt or tomato on your router. 3rd party firmware usually adds bridging and repeating capabilities. However, please note that a bad flash with 3rd party firmware may brick your router and it's not covered by warranty.

  • Connecting my WRT610N with my other Modem\Router (Philips ADSL Modem\Router)

Hi, I recently purchased a WRT610N Dual Band router and I have some questions to ask. I plugged the UTP cable (blue one) from my modem's\router's (Philips) ethernet port 4 to "Internet" port of the WRT610N router. In "Basic" Setup I chose "PPPoE Connection" (my ISP here in Greece working in PPPoE) and everything gone fine. WRT610N seems to log to Internet and everything is OK....but... In those 2-3 days that I'm working on it, I am curious in How this works.. and if my setup is 100% ok because I one bizzare problem.. the problem is that I run a DynDNS.com Client application, cause I wanna have Remote access from my work. this client has logs, I reviewed the log and I see that every 10 or 20 minutes (exactly 10 or exactly 20) my IP is different.. (I use dynamic IP from my ISP)...and I ask : What I have to do to the MODEM\ROUTER from one side and WRT610N on the other side? What setup? What exactly I must do to be 100% sure that everything is working fine? NAT ? firewalls from the two routers? DHCP ? In general I mean... Thanks and.. sorry for my English.. (I'm from Greece so.. )

  • Connecting a wrt610n and netgear wnr2000v2 in wireless repeater mode

I am having trouble getting the wrt610n to connect to the wnr2000v2 that can be set a  wireless repeater.  I had a 160n hooked up and it was working fine, but am unable to get the 610n going on it.  I'm kinda new to setting this type of networking up , but have a general idea of how it works.  I have the 610n running and is broadcasting a signal, but the wnr 2000 will not connect to it wirelssly and repeat it.  The setup in the netgear is pretty basic , but I am new to the linksys 610n and the interface that's why I believe it has to do with the 610n.  Could someone please walk through the settings for me?  Any help would be appreciated.

So as per the scenario that you mentioned according to that could you please tell us the name of the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ).... As it all depends up the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) setup....  Secondly check the firmware version of the Router is updated or not if it is not then it can be downloaded from the Cisco website (homesupport.cisco.com ).... Once after updating the firmware reset the Router and configure it again...
As far as wireless is concern WRT610N Router is dual-band Wireless-N Router... So that it means it has 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
    frequencies...
As far as wireless settings is concern you can use same wireless network name or even you can use different network name...
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161..
So these settings are sufficient to make the Netgear  WNR2000 v2 as a repeater mode...

  • Airport Extreme in Bridge mode with Linksys WRT610N

Is there a way to wirelessly connect my AEBS to a Linksys 802.11N (WRT610N) router. I think this is called bridge mode. My need is to have the WRT610N connect upstairs to the cable modem and then my computers hard wired into the AEBS bridging the 802.11N coming from the Linksys.

Apple does adhere strictly to the standards. Unfortunately there is no "standard" for wirelessly extending a network. A strategy is loosely described by a strict definition is not made. Therefore usually this does not work between manufacturers and sometimes doesn't even work between devices from the same manufacturer.

  • Losing Connection with both WRT54G & WRT160N

Problem In Short: My connection is going in and out randomly. One desktop, two laptops connected wirelessly. Same problem on Xbox360. I've been having problems for the last 2 months or so. My connection will randomly hang or go out completely and then come back. The timing will differ each time - sometimes every few minutes, others every hour or so. It started happening with my WRT54G. First, I thought it might have been my modem. Comcast replaced it with a brand new one - still had the same problem. Figured it would have to been the router, and considering it was already pretty old, I went out and bought the WRT160N. Installed everything accordingly, and STILL had the same problem. I lost count of how many times I've called Linksys. Tried power-cycling, tried changing router settings such as radioband, channel, Beacon Interval, MTU, etc.. and still nothing. I have one Dell Desktop connected to the Router, and then two laptops connected to the network wireless. I also have my Xbox360 connected to the network as well. I have the same problem during online games, everything will start out fine but a few minutes in it will either start lagging or lose the connection completely.
ETA: Could it be a problem with the new version of Utorrent (1.7.7)? Any help would be appreciated. Message Edited by SM26 on 05-09-2008 11:06 AM

I also have a connection problem with WRT54G v7 running the latest firmware.
Here's what happens: Seems like a rather serious bug in the firmware causes a watchdog bite.
