Connecting locked ipod to new computer
I have a 2nd generation ipod touch that is locked and the screen say connect to itunes. When I connect to my mac, itunes doesn't recognize the ipod because this computer is not the original computer that it was synced to. How can I reset the ipod and the passcode?

Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer.

Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay. -

It doesn't quite work that way. Transfer your music from the old computer to the new one. Then, sync the iPod.

bought drakes new album and connected my ipod to my computer. When the ipod was trying to sync, a box popped up that read Ipod cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the itunes library (additional 142.2 mb required)

I have an existing ipod classic with about 4,000 songs. I have downloaded iTunes to a new computer. Can I simply plug the ipod into the computer (Windows PC laptop) so that my Library and iPod will sync or is there another procedure?

Our old computer crashed which had all the kids ipod touch library on it. Now when I try to connect them to new computer it says I need to erase all data, apps, etc. to sync with new computer. I use my iPod to listen to recordings of lectures. I do the recording using a digital recorder, then download to the PC and import into iTunes then sync to iPod.
Recently my PC crashed and the hard disk is no longer recognized. I will have to buy a new hard disk and reinstall everything to get that PC up and running. It will take a long time.
I tried to sync from iPod to another PC to continue using the iPod but it won't let me. I got a message saying that everything in my iPod will be deleted if I use it with another PC.
I can understand the copyright issue for purchased music but I don't have any -- everything in my iPod is recording of lectures.
I looked for Apple Support but all their Support web site does is refer me to this forum.
Can someone suggest a way to transfer from iPod to a new PC? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Computer Hard Drive Crashed - Need to Transfer from IPod to New Computer
The hard drive died on my old PC as I was transferring files to the new PC. Most data made it but my daughter's ITunes was not one of the things that made it. Fortunately the tunes all still exist on her IPod. How do I transfer them on to the new computer and ensure the music all makes it?
