Connecting mac book to 32 inch LCD

i have a macbook, and i bought the VGA to DVI adapter. i have a DVI to HDMI cable that i connect to my VIZIO 32" LCD, but i cannot get the resolution right, and the screen is off center and i am not able to see anything.
How should i set up my tv and computer so this doesnt happen?

Thank you all for your great advice and help. It worked!!! but I have one other very minor issue. How to I get the display on the monitor to be a different resolution than on my lap top? whenever I change the resolution on one it also changes on the other but not always identical. All of this was a test to be sure I could use the tv as a monitor. My plan is to buy a mac mini to be in our kitchen so if the laptop video card supports this particular tv I have been told the mac mini video card is better and should work as well. So just some reassurance needed before I buy the mac mini. Thanks again for all your help. You folks are super.

  • Connect Mac Book Pro to my TV

Is there a way I could connect my mac book pro to my LCD TV? I could not find any adapters? I am sure there is a way. I would like to connect using my HDMI slot. Composite or component are fine.

Yes, and it is very easy assuming you have the right cable. The MacBook Pro is the best example, because it uses a standard DVI connection right out the side. What you need is a DVI to HDMI cable. However, there are three types - analog, digital, and integrated. You need digital, but your safest bet is to get integrated, since it supports both digital and analog. These cables are considered DVI-I, and can run you a lot in stores. I got one on Amazon from the vendor SF Planet for under $10 with shipping. Albeit not the highest quality solution, it still outputs fine in HD and is worth the money compared with the $60+ cables you find in electronics stores.

The router might be bad or incompatible, but let's be optimistic.
On System Preferences, go to Network/Advanced/PPP. Only two items should be checked: Connect Automatically When Needed and Disconnect when switching user accounts. Uncheck everything else. Now, click Okay on the end of the page. The next time you're online, you shouldn't be disconnected.
If you still get disconnected like before, we might be dealing with a router issue - which can get rather complicated.

    Hi ohmghimire,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're seeing unexpected behavior when using USB devices, try resetting the SMC on your MacBook Pro:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the article with these steps here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • I had brought the Mac book pro 15 inch retinal display in nov. 2013 in USA. I lost my luggage in the flight transit at Paris CDG. Now I can't install windows 8.1 which I brought from same store frys at LA, USA. Pl. help. Thanks gyanesh

    Dear friends
I had brought this Mac book pro 15 inch retinal display and windows 8.1 and then I left to India my home place for vacation now my problem is during flight transit at Paris CDG. For flight change. My luggage got lost and I had to leave for India. On reaching I waited for 6 days daily going to the Mumbai airport and enquiry but now I am stuck I can't work using windows software s for designing engg.
Can someone tell me a better way how can I install windows if I don't have the driver CDs?
Thanks in advance.  Sb sob sob
    Pl. help. Thanks

Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then use Boot Camp Assistant. One of the Boot Camp Assistant menu items is download the Windows Support Software (drivers). Make sure you follow the Boot Camp instructions.
Or, Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then install a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. Then install Windows in the virtual machine.
You can use either Boot Camp or a virtual machine to install Windows. Neither method requires any driver cds.

  • I have a late model mac book air 11 inch can i upgrade to a solid state hard drive

i have a late model mac book air 11 inch can i upgrade to a solid state hard drive

If you're looking to get an SSD with increased capacity, they can be purchased from OWC:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Aura_Pro_Express
They are very easy to install.
Note that I'm not sure on how this may impact your warranty.  Nothing in an Air is considered user upgradable.  Therefore there would be no reason for a consumer to open it up.  As Apple does not consider the SSD as user replacable, it may cause warranty issues.  I have not seen any comments from anyone who has upgraded their SSD and subsequently had to have service.

Do you have a SD slot? If not you get a USB to SD memory card adpater at the computer/office/online store and use that.
It appears as a drive on your machine and you can use Export from iPhoto or drag and drop methods too.
    Make sure you backup

  • What is the most RAM I can put in mac book pro 15 inch 2.16(2006)?

What is the most RAM I can put in mac book pro 15 inch 2.16(2006)?

Depends. There were two version of the MBP that shipped in 2006 with different max RAM. The quickest way to see which is yours is to use System Profiler to get your Mac's "Model Identifier."
Do "About this Mac" from the Apple menu and, in the resulting window, click "More Info..." That launches System Profler for you.
The answer is in the first screen of Profiler that comes up--"Hardware Overview." Note the second line in this example:
If the Model Identifier says "MacBookPro1,X" you are limited to 2G RAM. Period.
If the Model Identifier says "MacBookPro2,X" you can install two, 2G modules for an installed total of 4G RAM, but the logic board can only access 3.2G of it. That becomes your "max RAM.
    Hope this helps,
    AJ

How can i connect mac book pro to appel tv3

To do what?  It's not clear from the question.
If you want to play iTunes library content on the unit you need to enable Home Sharing on both, have them on the same network and then look for your iTunes library under the Computer icon - iTunes must be running of course.
Communications can be blocked by firewalls or security software sometimes.
To factory restore a black AppleTv2 or 3 you connect it to the computer running itunes with a USB to microUSB lead alone and start itunes.

  • Mac Book Pro 13 inch i5 vs 13 inch 17 to run Video Editing Soft wares . Which one to buy?

    Hello folks ,
I am planing to buy Macbook pro and I am quite confused between mac book pro i5 and i7( 13 inch) . The difference between these two version are of 20,000 Indian rupee ( which means around 400 US$).
The purpose for my purchase is mainly to use editing softwares ( Final Cut X , Adobe premier pro 6). Although these softwares can be run on both the version but I am just curious to know how much difference will make in a long run. Will there be major performance and speed issues ? Do, after a certain time, I need to upgrade to i7 and is it possible to upgrade a processor to i5 to i7 in mac ? I am bit tight on budget so I am considerng Macbook pro i5 version  is it REALLY neccessary to increase the budget anyhow and get i7 version for much better performance of editing sofwares? Please help. Thanks a lot in advance

By the model with the fastest cpu you can afford with the standard ram and hard drive because those 2 things can be upgraded by the user. That is if you are looking at the standard mac notebooks and not the retina models.
I agree with the above post that a 15" with discrete graphics would be a better choice for your needs.
With whichever model you choose factor in the cost of the extended applecare warranty because to fix any mac computer once the warranty is over is very expensive. So much so that in some cases it would be more cost effective to just buy a new computer with newer technology then to fix one that is 1+ to 3 years old. With the applecare extended warranty you will get at least 3 years use out of it with no worries of a repair bill should anything go wrong.
Note that no apple warranty covers any accidental damages. From dropping it to spilling water on it or general misuse or abusive treatment of the system.

No, you can't upgrade the GPU on a MaBook Pro - it's soldered onto the logic board.

  • Mac Book Pro 17-inch Mid-2010 memory compatibility

I have a Mac Book Pro 17-inch, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB 1066 MHz DD3 RAM. The RAM consists of two 4GB modules. I was just wondering if I can upgrade the RAM by putting DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz SO-DIMM PC laptop memory module RAM. Will it work?

Buying RAM off eBay is probally the worst thing you can do.
Not only that, it's some off name brand RAM made for PC's, so it's likely to cause issues or fail in the Mac, which the seller might not respond for a exchange or refund.
Inexpensive RAM is usually lower quality and more prone to not working but might so it's pawned off to third party resellers to appeal to the cheap crowd willing to work more to get their machines running.
Opening up the MacBook Pro is delicate work with fine screws that need to go back into each exact hole they came out of. The more you have to open it, the more potential damage can occur that is not covered by AppleCare or warranty.
If you want perfect RAM the first time, without having to keep trying over and over which costs you more money and headaches, buy the RAM directly from the manufactor here
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/
When your looking at the RAM approved and tested to work for your machine, you can opt to spend more for the higher speed RAM however it will only work as fast as your BUS speed (aka: "Mhz") of the machine.
Benefit of the faster RAM is it will max the bus speed, whereas the matched speed spec-ed RAM can be a bit slower than the bus speed.
If your not into serious performance of the machine, then just opt for the most used spec-ed RAM speed.

  • Mac Book Pro 13 inch crashes !!

    Hello,
My mac book pro 13 inch with no retina display crashed for no reason.
It was working perfectly yesterday night, i woke up today and opened the laptop.
The screen was white and stuck with the apple icon, I couldn't control the laptop so i pressed the power button to shutdown the laptop.
I tried to open in it again but still i had the same problem, so i decided to take it to the store. they told me that the laptop needs to be formatted, i was shocked because by doing that ill be loosing all the documents and programs i have.
I told them okay!!! format it, i can't do anything else besides erasing all the data, so i left the store and while were working on the laptop.
2 hours ago the sales man called me and said, "noora we couldn't format the device there was an error, your hard disk is gone and you will need to repair it."
I have no idea where to take my laptop, I was told that it will cost me approximately $300 to get an new one.
please advice me whether to repair the hard disk or try to format it again.
    Thanks,

Disconnect power adapter from the ac outlet and the computer, then reconnect it.
    Try SMC reset.
