Hi druwest, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
To watch movies from the TV you would need a video input adapter such as eyetv.

To do what?  It's not clear from the question.
If you want to play iTunes library content on the unit you need to enable Home Sharing on both, have them on the same network and then look for your iTunes library under the Computer icon - iTunes must be running of course.
Communications can be blocked by firewalls or security software sometimes.
To factory restore a black AppleTv2 or 3 you connect it to the computer running itunes with a USB to microUSB lead alone and start itunes.

  • Trouble connecting Mac Book w\ Mt Lion to a projector.

I am trying to hook a fairly new Mac Book Pro with Mt. Lion to an external DLP projector.
I followed the manual, turned on the projector then connected to computer.
The Mac recognizes the projector, blinks the computer display then the projector shows my background picture but nothing else, not even the dock. No cursor movement seen through projector.
The only time I got a change was when I opened Keynote, went to preferences, went to Slideshow and hit 'Open Display Preferences'. In that case I get a window through the projector that is different thant the Display Preferences window shown on the screen. It is titled VGA display, show buttons for Resolution and a drop down for Rotation.
I am trying to run a Powerpoint Program with Powerpoint for Mac. Please let me know if there are any additional things I need to do to make that work on the projector. Thanks to anyone who can help.

You have mirroring disabled in the display settings.
Go into settings/display and select "arrange displays".  There you will see a selection for mirroring (select it).  You will also see a graphic to show the current relationship of the built-in display and the projector.
If you want to keep them separate, just remember that the projector is off to the side of your built-in display.

  • Mac mini turns off after watching movie in front row

we were watching movies through front row on my mac mini (intel core duo from 2004, 1 gb processor) and it turned off a few times, all within about 15-30 minutes of each other. I just upgraded to leopard a few months back but have not had any issues until now. the mac mini is also connected to a hard drive where we store our movies.
Has this happened to anybody else?

I have the same problem. It's pretty annoying and renders the app useless. For now I solved the problem by preventing my Macbook going to sleep via the power settings. Since this is a waste of energy, I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • How do I connect Mac Book Air with HD TV No Apple Tv available

I am looking for a cable or connection from Mac Book Air to an HD TV. I ant to have the movies on the TV screen. But I don't want to buy an Apple TV.

    Hey vickitaunus,
Thanks for the question. Your MacBook Air has a Thunderbolt port that can be used to connect Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cables. We have a few offerings in our store:
Cables - Mac Accessories - Apple Store (U.S.)
    http://store.apple.com/us/mac/mac-accessories/cables
You can also use our handy Cable Chooser tool in our Online Store:

  • Connecting mac book pro wirelessly with hp printer

I am unable to connect my new mac book pro with my hp G85xi wirelessly. I am able to connect utilizing my other pc computers (laptop and desktop; this is my first mac). Could anyone provide help with this?

Right now, it's impossible to diagnose your issue. First, I would want to see if your MBP works on another monitor. I'd bring it to an Apple Store, I'm sure they'd let you try. Bring your own cable, just in case that's the issue. If it works there, then you know it's your LG monitor.
Something is wrong with either your monitor or the cable. I don't think it's your MBP.

  • Connect Mac Book Pro to my TV

Is there a way I could connect my mac book pro to my LCD TV? I could not find any adapters? I am sure there is a way. I would like to connect using my HDMI slot. Composite or component are fine.

Yes, and it is very easy assuming you have the right cable. The MacBook Pro is the best example, because it uses a standard DVI connection right out the side. What you need is a DVI to HDMI cable. However, there are three types - analog, digital, and integrated. You need digital, but your safest bet is to get integrated, since it supports both digital and analog. These cables are considered DVI-I, and can run you a lot in stores. I got one on Amazon from the vendor SF Planet for under $10 with shipping. Albeit not the highest quality solution, it still outputs fine in HD and is worth the money compared with the $60+ cables you find in electronics stores.

  • Connect mac book to vga projector

    Hi,
Eveyone...can anyone helpo me with 30 mins?
Have a mac book pro and am trying to connect it a Project via the apple VGA connector.
When I plug everthing in the projector does not pick up the MPB???
on a pc/laptop I would nornally use fn / F5 to shift through the different screen options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks

Look for a minidisplay port to VGA cable.  The Thunderbolt port will act as a minidisplay port if required.
    Ciao.

I'm not interested in a work around I can probably find one myself, what I would like to know is where can I check what the power mac thinks the IP address of the mac book is? I can see the server name and that's right and I know the sharing options are the same as yesterday, Mac OS suggests you check these things but as I didn't set them and it found them on its own, where are they?
I suspect that you are using DHCP to distribute ip addresses on you LAN and that the MBP has a different ip address today than it did yesterday. You can find the new ip in the Network pane of System Preferences on the MBP. I can't figure out how to find out what the client thinks the ip of the MBP is, though. ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist contains an entry for the last server connected to, for example, but it doesn't seem to include the ip. I deleted a bunch of obsolete files from ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost recently, though, which might have included this so you might look there.
P.S. Why does it also offer me the option to "Fix Alias" for a network item when all that does is open finder for this computers so I can point it at something on the hard drive?
    No idea.

  • Connect mac book to TV

    Hi,
I want to be able to connect my macbook so I can watch things on my TV.
    I have noticed I will need this cable;
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/M9319G/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=Mjc2MTg
But will I need anymore cables to attach this to my TV? I think my TV has an RCA and scart sockets available.
P.s. will this allow my TV to show pictures and play sound?
    Thanks

MacNewbie82 is correct. That mini-DVI to video adapter is just that, only an adapter. You'll still need the video and audio cables to connect the adapter to your TV. Once you have an RCA cable between the adapter and your TV, the TV will appear on the MacBook as a second display. You can choose to "mirror" the two screens so they both show the same image or use the TV as a secondary display.
The UK online Apple store has an audio "Y" type cable you could buy:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/TN779LL/A?mco=MTIxODk3Mw
But I'm sure you can find a much cheaper audio "Y" cable somewhere else. They're pretty common.
