Connecting Mac to TV! Please Help

Hi guys,
I just bought a mini display port to dvi cable and a dvi to hdmi cable.
I go home and plug the mac into the tv. My mac flashes blue for a second. The tv says there is no video signal.
What is the problem here and what do I do?
Thank you so much in advance to anybody who can shed some light on this.

That sounds to me like a bad adapter. Exchange it for another one, and, if this is not an Apple adapter, consider investing in an Apple adapter.
