Connecting MacBook Air to LAN cable?

Hi
Currently sitting in Singapore in a serviced apt that does not allow me to connect wirelessly to the internet. I have to connect a LAN cable to a laptop... How do I connect one to a MacBook Air?
TIA

Hi,
Just head over to Wheelock Place on Orchard Road at the Apple Center (2nd Floor, I think) and ask for the USB to Ethernet adapter.
That should let you plug in your Air to your LAN cable.
The other thing you can do is get an Airport Express (from the same place). Just plug your LAN cable into it, configure it, and you've got wireless - easy!
Hope that helps.

Sounds like you may have been in extended display mode. If so, all you had to do was drag a window to the projector display. Or, if you wanted mirrored mode, in display preferences select check mirror display.

Try doing it without a cable!

Since you posted in the Thunderbolt Display Community, I am guessing you are attempting to connect a MacBook Air to a Thunderbolt Display, but since you tagged projector, it makes me doubt my assumption. Can you provide some more details on what you are trying to connecto your MacBook Air to?

  • Just purchased USB SuperDrive to connect MacBook air can't eject start up disc

just purchased USB SuperDrive to connect MacBook air can't eject start up disc? please advise

No, of course not. The "startup disk" is the disk with your boot volume (operating system) on it. Once you boot (startup) from it it is locked as your computer will not "run" without a valid "startup disk".
It would be similar to complaining that "I can't remove the engine from a running vehicle".

I can't help you with a direct answer.  For third-party devices you should contact the vendor (Vodafone).
If you have an iPhone (or an Android phone with hot-spot capability) you can use that to connect to the Internet without paying for a separate cellular service.

  • How do I connect Macbook Air to Macbook via ethernet crossover cable?

    Hi all,
For the life of me, I'm having a lot of troubles connecting my Macbook Air to Macbook, here is what I've done so far:
    1. Turned on sharing in System preferences on both systems and given "read and write" access to "myself", "users" and "everyone".
    2. Then connected a ethernet cable to both macbook and macbook air (via original Apple USB ethernet)
    3. When I go to Finder > Shared on both systems, they say cannot open drop box insufficient privileges.
Please someone link to step by step tutorial of Mac OS X 10.5 sharing through ethernet cable or correct me on what I'm doing wrong, and I don't have firewire cable otherwise things would've easier .
    Thanks in advance!

You are probably over thinking the problem.
Do not use a crossover cable. Just connect the two machines directly with a standard ethernet cable and they will auto assign ip addresses and be accessible to each other. The ethernet chips in both machines will detect the cable, etc and it "just works".
Also your sharing settings do not need to be that open. I would recommend to pulling them back so that you are not giving the world access to your machine.

  • How to connect Macbook Air to OLD tv (w/o HDMI)?

    Hi,
    I have a macbook air 11"  LATE 2010.
I want to connect my Macbook Air to OLD TV, via VGA cable.
It's its old tv, but it has a big screen, anyways, it does NOT have HDMI.
I can't find the right cables I need. I tried amazon, but it gave me the wrong cable, that did not fit.
So  can you tell me excatly what cables I need to connect my macbook to my tv, please?
    Thank you so much!

Ok so i looked at my TV, turns out that you were right, and it does NOT have a VGA. But it has S-Video.
I can't seem to find the model number but, I found a picture of it on the internet. It's a 10 year old HDTV  47" Panosonic TV.

    Thanks again
So this means that I need to get a VGA to S-video connector right?
Do you know what I need for sound?

  • Cannot connect Macbook Air to Samsung TV via HDMI

Hello, I have been completely unable to get my Macbook Air (13-inch, Mid 2011, running OS X 10.9.1) to connect to my new Samsung TV (UN32EH5000F)  I feel like I have tried everything I can think of, have spent hours now looking for a solution online.  I also consulted Samsung tech support, who were not helpful in that they insisted the problem is with my Macbook (because the HDMI port on the TV works when I hook up my DVD player).
I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air to the TV using a Mini DisplayPort (Thunderbolt Compatible) to HDMI cable.  I have gotten the connection to work on my LG monitor (via the same HDMI cable), but this did require some switching back and forth between sources before it would appear as an external monitor on my Mac and doesn’t seem to work reliably.  Sometimes I can get the LG monitor to work as an external display over HDMI and sometimes I can’t.
I have also gotten the TV to work ONCE on my Macbook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008, running 10.9) by plugging the cable into the Mini DisplayPort while the computer was asleep.  I have not been able to replicate this in many tries since that first time.
When I insert either end of the cable (either into the TV or the Macbook Air), the screen flashes as if recognizing that the cable is plugged in, but the TV always says "No Signal."
    I have also tried:
Every possible combination of plugging in cables
Shutting down my Mac and the TV and rebooting
Switching the source on my TV back and forth
Plugging the HDMI cable into both ports on the TV
Changing the name of the HDMI source on my TV (to available options like "PC", "DVI", "DVI PC", etc.)
    Battery power and AC adaptor
Resetting the PRAM and the SMC
Using the Option button in Display preferences to click “Detect Displays”
    Any help would be appreciated!

  • Connecting Macbook Air 2011 to Epson projector for Keynote

    Hi,
I'm trying to connect my Macbook Air 2011 to a brand new Epson (Powerlite 1760W) projector for Keynote presentations.
I bought the recommended Monoprice mini cable from the Apple store but I can only plug it into my MBA (small squarish socket), the other end dosen't connect to the projector. It seems the projector wants a VGA cable into it.
I'm lost. Do I still need the UBS cable between the two? Do I need a USB / VGA cable instead?
    Thanks in advance.

    Alison,
In looking at the technical specifications (on Epson's site) for this device it would appear that you can make HDMI work - http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/jsp/Product.do?sku=V11H361120&BV_UseBVCookie= yes
That being said, the HDMI end on the adapter and on the projector are most likely female. So you'll need an HDMI cable (the length will vary on how far the machine is away from the projector) but I suspect a 3 or 6 footer would work just fine. The cable is a male-to-male.

  • Connecting macbook air to my ipad

I want to connect my Macbook air with my ipad but for some reason they connect recognise each other but won't allow anything to transfer between them. Any ideas?

If you are trying to do this via Bluetooth, there is no support for file transfer over Bluetooth on iPads so the Mac will not find it.
If you need to transfer things between them you need to use iTunes and the provided USB cable that came with the iPad.

  • Connecting Macbook Air to TV

Okay how can I connect my Macbook Air to my TV so that I can play movies I have bought on iTunes?

@No_Dominion - sorry to interrupt but I have been googling my fingers off trying to get this sorted.  I have the latest MBA with Thunderbolt, USB & SD ports only. I have AppleTV. I have cables.  I can't get this sorted.
Initially i thought i could stream content from my MBA via AppleTV - in similar fashion to iPad2 - not quite so, so I installed AirFlick on the MBA - but couldln't make that work, the app could not see the web page i was streaming.
So today i visited a physical store to make it perfectly clear that i have a Thunderbolt port & want to connect to an HDTV via Thunderbolt to HDMI, which _must_ have audio.... so the cheerful salesperson says just use AppleTV!  I ask him to demonstrate instore... he couldn't get it sorted.  He told me Thunderbolt wouldn't work - different port, not for displays, i begged to differ & made him open the cable & stick it in the port & get his additional display working... no problem!
So we choose an OEM Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor, he then advises that a simple DVI-D to HDMI cable will do the trick, again I ask about audio, especially noticing only video interface mentioned on the packaging, nothing about audio.... he assures me it will transmit audio.... I have connected.  No surprise, no audio!
The Moshi cable i've found in searches seems to be unreliable according to reviews... what is yr opine?
    Thanks!
    Sian

  • How to connect Macbook air to tv via airplay ?

How do I connect my Macbook Air to tv via Apple TV and airplay ?

    Hello wayneharlow
You should see an AirPlay button in the Menu Bar in the upper right hand corner near the Date and Time. If you do not see it, then you may need to turn it on to show up there, then it is a matter of selecting the Apple TV from that drop down menu. Check out the article below for more information and troubleshooting if needed.
