Connecting macbook pro to sony bravia wirelessly

Hello,
Is there a way to connect a Macbook Pro to an HDTV that are both on the same wireless network? I have a Sony Bravia KDL40EX521 that I bought a USB wireless adaptor with. Is there an app that allows me to do this? Alternatively, I have a PS3. I know Apple TV has a way to "mirror" a display. Does PS3 have an app that allows you to do this?
Any comments / advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Go back to the salesman and have him demonstate that and advise you on the software needed. You could also check SONY web site as well.

  • Connecting Macbook Pro to Sony Bravia tv?

    Hi all,
Firstly i hope I've posted this in the correct location, I'm still new to this forum, and all the technology I'm surrounding myself with.
I recently brought a Samsung 3dtv, I connected my Macbook pro via the VGA, all worked fine, however my new tv does have dodgy hdmi's and screen issue, so a new replacement will be delivered next week.
My Macbook pro was bought in 2008, yes 4 years ago, only recently did it start slowing down and playing around. So, my Macbook is not top of the line, with many fancy connctions, oppostie obviously.  However the dvi - vga does work and continues to do so.
My iMac was brought only a couple of weeks ago, so is more up-to-date, I still don't know what all the connections are at the back, but I'm impressed.
In the lounge there is a Sony Bravia tv, was brought last year, again i don't know everything about it.
Last night, du to the failure of my hdmi's i decided to connect my Macbook to the Sony tv. This simple task turned in to hours of touture, not quite but it was pretty horrific.
I went the way which i knew has worked and should work. dvi - vga.
I connected the adapter from my Macbook to one end of the vga lead, the other end in the tv. I also connected my audio cable. The same way that i have done for years, especially on a 6 year old LG lcd tv. And still nothing. (This way even works on a broken Samsung tv)
The PC output on the Sony was grayed out, and continue to stay that way... all night. Frustrating!
I then decided to try an old windows laptop, again nothing.
I also tried with my iMac, thunderbolt (i believe) to hdmi - hdmi, again nothing!
I even tried the hdmi cables from the cable box etc and all worked ok. Nothing wrong with cables nor the connectors on the tv.
I spoke with a technician from the store of purchase, he said.... It only worked on Samsung tv as it is a 'Smart' tv, and that i could make it work by downloading a free app called... AirPlay. : |
I find this all completely odd as like I've said, the 6 year old LG Nothing-of-a-tv LCD worked via the dvi (on a 4 year old Macbook) to a vga cable, through and in to the tv, also using an audio cable, I bet my life that if i connct it again right this moment, it will work.
Also my Samsung tv is broken, yet the same cable and Macbook still works.
Why does the other two completely different tv's work just like that and the one year old Sony, No!!!
All i would like to know is, how on earth can i connect my Macbook to the Sony tv and have it working as an extra screen?? with video and sound content?
Many thanks to you all. x

I run into exactly the same problem with PC input staying grey. The matter gets worse by:
    - if I connect a PC to the Bravia on the it recognizes it.
    - if I then connect a MacBook after it it works, until the MacBook is turned off when the matter returns...
    - with the earlier MacBooks (time with the round power cables before the magnetic connector) it worked well but newer display connector has this problem.
Hence it's somehow a Bravia problem or a signaling problem from this particular MacBook connector to Bravia (something signal is missing that should be there...)

  • Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,thanks, Derek

Hi all, I'm trying to connect my macbook pro to Sony Bravia tv using Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support , when connected to the HDMI on tv I get a picture of the mac screen saver ( the starburst ) no video/audio,any ideas? thanks, Derek

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • Macbook Pro to Sony Bravia connection

    Hi,
I would like to connect my Macbook Pro to my Sony Bravia KDL-32V2000 but I'm not sure what input connection i need on the TV and what cable i need?
There is a HDMI input but that is being used with the cable box. Will the PC input connection work?
    Thanks,
    Carl

... I can use the PC port situated close by. However, is this likely to reduce the quality?
What are you going to be viewing? Just programs on the Mac? Or DVD movies?
Due to the size and "excitement" factor, you might want to try that option out first. It is also your least expensive option! Use the litrtle white video adapter that came with your MBP, and get a cable from it to the PC INPUT of the monitor.
... Secondly, can I get a dual HDMI adaptor and have both cables connected ...
And that's your more expensive option: a HDMI-male - to HDMI-male cable, and an "A-B HDMI Switchbox."
The profit/markup on HDMI cables can be enormous. For example, at a large retailer here in the U.S., I find a 6-foot HDMI cable for US$69.95. The same cable is on eBay for forty dollars less. Just purchase from reputable dealers, and check the feedback. There ARE differences in quality and workmanship with these cables, so please don;t just go for price alone.
A switchbox? I would go to the HDTV online magazines and read reviews. Or contact your local HDTV dealer for support. This might be the time to establish or re-establish your relationship with a local dealer, where pricing might not be rock-bottom, but advice, and the ability to return products without hassle is worthwhile.
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

  • Macbook pro to sony bravia color problems

I am trying to hook up my macbook pro to my sony bravia tv. i have it hooked up through the pc input and i get a picture but the colors are all messed up. i was wondering if anyone knew how to fix the colors. i have tried the color utility on my laptop and the color settings on the tv itself and the colors are horrible. if anyone had any insight i'd appreciate it. thanks.

I completely get what you're saying with the different connectors but there is something very wrong. Don't get me wrong the picture's quality is acceptable; I mean it has smooth lines and, easy to read - etc. but the color is flat out wrong.
I know the TV can out put colors correctly, because last night I connected a Sony SR11 camcorder to the component input and all was good. I've only tested the Component and PC Input but the problem is definitely on the PC Input.
I do Graphic Design & Video Work for a living so I'm familiar when you talk about calibration, but this problem goes beyond calibration as I've been in and out of the OS and Sony's menus for calibrating and nothing seems to aid in the problem.
It seems some have this problem while others don't and what I'd like to know is if this related to a certain model # and version # of the Bravias or if its a video chipset issue. For people having problems like me --> raelle123 what graphics card you running? Also AldousH what graphics card are you using?
I know more than likely the simple fix is an HDMI cable and a DVI to HDMI converter but it really bugs me that I spent the money and the PC Input isn't working the way it should.
I plan on speaking with Sony today and trouble shoot with them. I'll also try taking video and putting that up today as well.
    Thanks.

  • Trouble hooking up MacBook Pro to Sony bravia tv

Hello there again, so ive connecting my macbook to my tv using a minidisplayport to hdmi adaptor just fine. The problem is getting the audio to come from the TV. i have a phono plugs 3.5mm [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Mountain-3-5mm-Phono-Plugs/dp/B000NHOMSQ]which you can find here] and i plug them into the audio in but just no use. I've plugged them into the PC audio in and tried switching the sources to see if the sound will come out, no sound at all.  Any help?
    I use a Macbook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2009
    Software  OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
Processor  2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
My TV is a Sony Bravia model number Kdl - 40hx803
    The audio plugs are [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cable-Mountain-3-5mm-Phono-Plugs/dp/B000NHOMSQ]
if you need any more info dont hesitate to ask

Exactly what miniDisplayport-HDMI cable do you have?   That's probably the problem.
I use the following and it works perfectly between my 2009 MBP and Bravia TV:
    Apple miniDisplayPort-DVI Adapter
    Monoprice.com DVI-HDMI cable
Also, on the Bravia TVs you are advised to use HDMI #4 input.  I don't know why, that's just what Sony advises.

  • MacBook Pro to Sony Bravia TV not working

I've bought this Mini Displayport - HDMI cabel today and I want to connect my MacBook Pro (mid 2010) to my Sony Bravia (KDL-32BX300) but there is nothing but a black screen on my tv. I've tried every HDMI input several times, but without any luck. My MacBook has no problem with finding my Sony Tv, and I can set the audio to go out via the tv. But still no adio or display on the tv. Any one know hoew to fix this?

  • Macbook Pro to Sony Bravia NOT WORKING...PLEASE HELP

    Hi,
I am trying to connect my *macbook pro* to my *Sony Bravia TV*.
So far I have the macbook pro - mini display to VGA converter - VGA cable - PC VGA socket in the back of the TV.
When selected on PC mode, the mac display turns blue for about 3 seconds then returns to its original state whilst the TV has a black screen with 'NO SYNC' in the top left hand corner.
The VGA cable is brand new and the mini display converter works as i used it on an old TFT monitor which died...hence why i am trying to connect it to my TV : )
    Any tips/solutions would be amazing!
    Thanks
    Jon

Had the same problem with my 40" Sony Bravia LCD. I tried for ages to connect MiniDisplay to VGA. The TV would never recognise an input signal and the MacBook wouldn't acknowledge any change and I eventually gave up.
Recently, I checked the Bravia manual and the highest possible resolution for my model was 1360x768. So I set the MacBook display to one of the nearest: 1280x800. I connected the cord and then closed the MacBook lid for a few seconds and reopened it. The signal kicked in! The mac then gave me the option to reset the VGA to optimal display - I used the table at the back of the Bravia manual to reset it to the highest display compatible with the available mac options (1280x768, 60Hz). Now it works perfectly, but still only when first set to 1280x800, nothing less or more!

  • How to connect MacBook 2009 to Sony Bravia HDTV?

Hi everyone!  I received a Sony Bravia HDTV as a gift (lucky me!), and I want to connect my MacBook from 2009 to it so I can stream Netflix movies onto my laptop and watch them on the HDTV.  I have a Mini-DVI port (video out) on the MacBook, and HDMI on the TV.  A couple of questions:
    -  What cable(s) do I need?
    -  Do I need a separate cable for audio?
    -  Has anyone tried to stream Netflix this way (directly from the laptop), and was it successful?
    Thanks so much!
    Denise

You'll need a Mini-DVI adapter and an HDMI cable from that to your TV. Here's some types of Mini-DVI adapter to HDMI on Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_9_8?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field- keywords=mini+dvi+to+hdmi+adapter&sprefix=mini+dvi
When you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. You'll have to contact Sony support to see if the Bravia has an audio plug that will work with one of the HDMI plugs.

    Greetings -
We have an Aug 2009 MacBook Pro -- would like to feed video / movies to our Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500, which has all manner of inputs -- HDMI, Composite, S-Video.
There appears to be a video port between the firewire & 2 USB ports.
What cable(s) do I need to get the optimal picture to the TV (and what to the receiver)?
    Thanks,

  • MacBook Pro to Sony Bravia ... Flickering blue screen

    Hello everyone,
I've just bought a E-kom MiniDisplay to HDMI adapter as well as a full HD HDMI cable, to plug my MBP on my Sony Bravia TV, and I've got an image, but a blue screen keeps on coming and going every few seconds. Does anybody knows why and how to resolve the problem ?

I connect my macbook pro to an Epson wireless projector. The macbook can see the projector wirelessly and the image on the macbook is displayed on the projector. However on system ref., the arrangement tab does not show and thus cannot have multiple view.
I am trying to project Pro Presenter on the Epson projector such that I have the detail screen on the macbook and only the screen I want people to see on the projector display. This has not been possible because the arrangement tab on the Display section of the System Preference is not showing. If i tried to search for the arangement, it comes back with the message that there is not other source detected, hence the arrangement tab is not showing.
I have also tried to connect the Epson directly to the Macbook but it still the same result, so its not because it is a wireless connection. Can someone advise me jhow to go around this problem. I have used windows before and it is very easy to extend ptojection on windows, but this system seems to be frustrating to me.

  • Connecting a macbook pro to a verizon wireless network

how do i connect a macbook pro to a verizon wireless network? Wi-Fi connection automatically assigns an IP address and indicates that the Mac won't be able to connect to the internet. Two other MacBook Pros connect to the network without any problems. These Macs travel from home to school and back again and automatically reconnect when they are brought into the house.

I have read a few corporate IT policies and they are all PC-centric.
Unless your mac runs any windows tools such as Bootcamp Wine, Crossover, or a VM in parallels or VMware then your mac has no virus implications.
A few years ago word documents could be infected with macro viruses and although did not affect a mac a mac could pass them on. Up to date versions of Microsoft Word documents are not vulnerable to this flaw.
You could install ClamAV its a free anti virus app for the mac that would keep your IT dept happy.
Maybe I can find out what the WEP key is with a utility of some kind.
If you had a compatible usb wifi dongle and kismac you could crack their WEP key but this would be probably illegal in your country so I dont condone this activity but if you got written permission from your employer to give them a free penetration test, something that normally involves hiring a security company this would save them money and highlight the insecurity on their network.
    Or use an Ethernet connection.
