Connecting Macbook to networked LaserJet 4 Plus

I have a Laserjet 4 Plus that is connected to the network via a Jetdirect card using IP. I am trying to get my Macbook to print to it and get a W2 Invalid Personality error.
I assume that the Mac is trying to talk via Postscript. I don't want to get the Postscript SIMM and memory for the one Mac that we have currently.
How should I configure the printer in OS/X forthis printer?

Try the included driver HP Laserjet 4 series Gimp-Print.

  • Can not connect Macbook Pro to IPhone 6 Plus via bluetooth.

I have a MacBook pro late 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.1 and bluetooth ver. 2.1 EDR. I can not connect my IPhone 6 Plus Ver. 8.1 via bluetooth.  I can see the the iPhone 6 on my MacBook and MacBook on IPhone 6, and can select connect but the iPhone 6 has error message MacBook Pro is not supported.  I am guessing that the issue is with the bluetooth versions, but not sure.  Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

And what is it you want to accomplish?   iPhones cannot pair with Computers  (Mac or Pc).
If you want to use features such as Continuity, or Handoff, pairing is not necessary.  However you would need a newer MacBook for those features.
iPhones can pair with speakers, keyboards, headsets, hands free devices, in car media centers etc...
But there's no profile for connecting to a computer directly.

  • New Macbook Pro. wont connect to wireless network once it has had a update

    hi
bought a new macbook pro last week, when you first start it up it connects fine to a wireless network, but once the software update is compltete it says that there is an error trying to jion network. there is already a powerbook g4 connected to the network and a pc. i have re installed tiger and it can connect fine until the software update has restarted the mac and the same error is back again. do i re install it again and never update it or is there a simple way to correct the fault

My girlfriends New Macbook Pro is doing the same thing. I does connect to non-secure wireless connections such as at the airport but doesn't connect to her home wireless connection that is run by an SBC DSL 2WIRE gateway. I can connect fine on her old IBM laptop that I am on right now through this network wirelessly.
There has to be a fix for this?

  • I have an HP LaserJet 8150N that I am trying to get connected via ethernet cable directly to my iMac. I always had this printer connected via a network so I don't know if I am able to connect directly with a cable since it is a network printer.

I have an HP LaserJet 8150N that I use for my work and I have had this printer for ever and it is one heck of a work horse! I am trying to get it connected via ethernet cable directly to my iMac. I always had this printer connected via a network so I don't know if I am able to connect directly with a cable since it is a network printer. I have tried to reconfigure the printer using the JetDirect menu giving it a new IP address but still no luck. If anyone could help me through this issue I would appreciate it.

Second, seeing "connecting" and connection failed is normal. You must click on "Connect As" in the Finder window and then enter the username and password for the admin account on the other computer. That should fix things.
    Thanks for responding.
When does clicking on "Connect As" happen in the process above?
    After step six? Seven?
    After the connection has failed?
Is this the FInder window that shows the icon of the computer you want to copy the file from?
You should see "Connect As" in the Finder near the top right of the window as shown below:

Try resetting your modem. Power it down. Wait a moment, then power it up again. While it resets, do not change what is connected to it.
In another, though unrelated article, Apple recommends the following:
If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.
This step really ought not be considered optional for the configuration you propose. If the problem persists after resetting your modem, reset everything else too.

  • MacBook to MacBook connection via Home Network

Hello everyone, please forgive me if this is a duplicate post. I have checked the other posts and all I see is people trying to connect MacBook to either iPod or other device, but not to another MacBook.
My friend broke her screen on her MacBook and ended up buying a new MacBook. Now she wants to transfer all her data from the old MacBook to the new MacBook. She have DSL at home, but her two MacBooks do not see each other on the network. Is there a special setting that needs to be changed? Or how would she be able to set it up so that she can access the old MacBook with the new MacBook?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Jay, we did use a USB SATA external HD case for the old HD, downloaded it to a special folder in Documents, but apparently, not all of the data was moved. We cannot find her data files (Excel, etc.). Also, when we look at the old drive as an external, we cannot see the data. The applications are there, but cannot find data. We even used Find to look for them, and nothing was found.
What is Migration Assistant? Is that part of the OS 10.6 applications menu? Or do we need to download it? Thanks for your advice and help.

  • Can't connect MacBook (Core 2 Duo) to AExpress "N" network

    Hi folks,
I have a MacBook which connects happily to my home Airport Express wireless-G network. However, my parents have an Airport Express which is a year or two newer, and theirs is wireless-N. I have searched the discussion pages here for guidance on why I can't connect to their network. My MacBook sees the N network, I have the password, but it just won't connect. At first I thought my MacBook was not compatible with N, but these discussion pages seem to say that mine should have the capability. I found something about downloading a $2 "wireless N updater enabler" software from Apple, which I did, but it wouldn't install, perhaps because my OS is already up to date? (I think the enabler update was more for OS 10.4 users?)
I have confirmed that I have Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which is a prerequisite. I confirmed that I have a wireless b/g/n ready airport card on board (I think it was the Network Utility software which showed me that).
But I can't figure out what else I need to do in order to connect to the N network.
    Grateful for any help. Thanks.
    -- Josh

I had this problem with my MacBook connecting to my Linksys N Router. They had me change the wireless security from WPA to WPA 2 and now it connects as 802.11n. Speed still seems a bit slow as it only connects at 72 Mbit/s but it is better than the 54 Mbit/s it was connecting at before the change...

  • Can't connect MacBook to a network behind D-link router

    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.8)
I am not able to access shared folders or networks behind a D-link DI-524 router from my MacBook but can access the networks/shared folders from PCs. From my MacBook I can connect wirelessly to the internet and access other computers connected to the router but I do not know what to do to get to the systems/networks behind the router. If I remove the router completely and connect my MacBook directly to the open ethernet cable that would have gone into the router I can see and connect to all of the networks.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi BDAqua, Thanks for your quick reply.
The cable from the router connects to the network at work, where all of the networks and shared folders are that I am trying to access. I am using this router to share the internet connection between multiple computers. There are 2 WinXP computers that connect to the router (1 wireless and 1 ethernet) and they can see the shared folders and access them at //serverip/sharename. My MacBook can communicate and share files with these two computers, but can't access anything beyond the router, as the others can. When I try to use smb://serverip/sharename I get error code 36, but when I remove the router and connect my MacBook directly to the internet I can access the shared folders using the same method. I am sure that I am assigned a 'real' ip as I can access a web server which is running on one of the computers behind the router whose port I had forwarded (using http://ip that I am assigned).

  • MacBook Airport card has lost its IP address and won't connect to my network

The Airport card on my MacBook has lost its IP address and will not connect to my network. It worked fine until about two or three days ago. Network Diagnostics says that the Airport now has a self-assigned IP number and will not connect to the Internet. I can't find any info anywhere that tells me how to restore the IP number, and I don't get how it can have a self-assigned number and not connect. I have AT&T U-Verse, and my iMac desktop and two iPhone 4s connect with little difficulty. The MacBook is three years old, and AppleCare just expired two months ago. I'm still running 10.6.8 on both machines. I found an article saying that sometimes DHCP leases expire, but my desktop still works ifne, and I've had both connected to the same network since the same time. The artcicle said that more than one machine can share an IP address, so I wanted to try to enter the desktop IP address into the laptop, but I can't find a way to do so, either. Any thoughts?

Have you tried making a New Location for each yet? The Automatic one get confused easily.
Some "nix" to try when it happens also...
sudo ipconfig set en1 BOOTP;sudo ipconfig set en1 DHCP
    sudo ifconfig en1 down;sudo ifconfig en1 up
Sometimes having an all OFF Location can help, thanks to Gnarlodious...

  • MacBook Pro Network Connectivity Problems

    Hi everyone!
I am baffled with an issue connecting my MacBook Pro to the internet.  My wifi worked okay until about two or three months ago, when it stopped being able to automatically connect to networks.  I simply used my phone to pick up the IP/DNS information, and then entered it manually into network settings.  Then, last month, that solution stopped working, and I am unable to connect to any network via wifi or Ethernet, even when manually entering IP information.
I have restarted my laptop and router multiple times.  Reset the PRAM.  Created a new location.  Deleted and added the network again.  Deleted network settings in Library.  Symptoms are not present on other wifi devices – other laptops and devices connect fine.
    I am running OS X 10.8.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks!

If you're still on 10.8, then you need to update to 10.8.5 (which, itself, has some bugs) in order to rule out the bugs found in 10.8 through 10.8.4. Use the Combo updater -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1676.
If, after updating, your connection problems persist, call back. There's no guarantee that updating is going to 'fix' your problem.

  • MacBook won't stay connected to preferred network after sleep

Anytime our MacBooks (good ole white) go to sleep, they wake up and need to be connected to the preferred network again.  I attempt to only connect with Preferred Networks, but that does not resolve the issue.  I only want it to see the preferred networks and it continues to sit around while I tell it where to link.
Any ideas?  I have a netgear router and 2 Macbooks that are having the issue.  I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and continue to experience the same problem... lovely grayed out signal and a prompt to connect to some network.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

  • New Macbook won't connect to existing network

    Hi there,
I've just got my new macbook, and it won't connect to my wireless network. It comes up with an error message saying it cannot connect to the network. There's no hint of what the problem is. I have another laptop which connects to the network fine. Is it a password issue? And if so where do I go to change the relevant Airport settings?
    Thanks
    J

The System Preference, Network, is where you change these things. However, it will only ask for a password when you try to connect, and it needs one. If it didn't ask, the network doesn't have a password. If you tried to enter one before, you can try deleting the Keychain that holds the wireless password. Open Keychain Access from the Utilities folder. Look for your network name in the list of items and delete the one with that name. If you have more than one, that may be the issue. Just delete them and start over trying to connect. Otherwise...
We need to know more about the wireless network. Open, WEP, WPA? Type of router? What are the router settings?
What are the MacBook settings for the Airport Network settings? Is it set to join automatic or preferred networks. Try adding your network as a preferred network and try that.
The following are things that may work. Sometimes preference files prevent things like this, even on a new MacBook.
There is also a preference file, /Library/Preferences/System Configuration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist that controls some of the global Airport items. Try moving it to the desktop and then open system preferences and re-configure the network settings. Also there is preferences.plist. It has all of your network configurations and locations. If you move it, you'll have to add all of your network interfaces back into the Network Port Configurations and any Network Locations you may have made.
You can always move them back if it doesn't help, but you'll have to overwrite the new ones that were created. You must be an admin user to do this.
