Connecting MacBook with a printer

Hi, just got a new MacBook pro and tried to connect it to my HP Laserjet Printer 1320. The printer isn't recognized by my MacBook. What can I do?

How is the printer connected to the Mac? USB or is it networked.
Download the proper drivers for it. Usually from Apple.

  • Can I use a USB Lead to connect PC with my Printer instead of the network connection?

I have recently moved my BT home Hub (wireless modem) from my study where it sat beside my printer, into the living room downstairs. So that it’s A, nearest to the BT access point (less loss) and B, it can connect directly to my TV, Blu-ray & BT Vision box. I have used a pair of Powerline adaptors to connect the home hub back to my HP PC and it’s all working very well with a faster broadband speed reaching my PC.
The only problem I now have is with my printer, which connects wirelessly to the home hub.
The printer is now right on the edge of the wireless range and really struggles to make a connection, sometimes failing altogether. The printer takes a long while to start up and sometimes fails to collect all of the data.
    My real question is:
Can I simply connect my PC to the printer using a USB cable (USB A to USB B) and if I do, do I need to make any other changes to the way my PC connects with the printer?

No problem.  Here's the link for the download for your operating system.  Click Here  When I sent my first post, I wasn't sure which operating system you were using.
Here's something you might try first before you do the download.  You can leave the current drivers installed ( might come in handy if you decide to reconnect to the network ).  Click on your Start button, and then select All Programs.  Scroll down to the HP folder and open it.  Then open the folder for the Photosmart 6510.  Select Printer Setup and Software.  You can go through the installation process as you did before, but this time you will choose usb connection.
    Let me know what happens.
    Good Luck !

  • Connect MacBook with Studio Display Monitor (2000)

I am trying to connect my MacBook with an old Studio Display monitor (made in 2000) that has an ADC 30 Male cord. I have a Mini-DVI to DVI 24 Female Adapter that fits into my laptop. I can't seem to find a DVI 24 Male to ADC 30 Female adapter, which is what appears I need. Is there anything I can do to make this work? Thanks!

  • How do I print from wifi-connected MacBook Pro to printer connected via USB to Win7 PC?

This is really frustrating, and I did not think that anything could be this difficult on a Mac. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium desktop PC connected via ethernet cable to wireless router, and a printer connected to the PC via USB. I recently bought my first ever Mac - a MacBook Pro, which is connected via wifi through the same router. All I want to do is to print files from the MacBook Pro on the printer connected to the PC. I have spent a LOT of time searching all over the web. Have tried some 2 or 3 different methods but none of them work for me, e.g. I shared the printer on the Win7 desktop and then added the printer on the MBP with the IP option with LPD/LPR Protocol, after enabling LPD Print Service on the PC. The printer gets added but when I give the command to print from the Mac, the print job shows up on the printer queue but the "Printing" soon changes to "Error Printing" (or something like that) and nothing gets printed. Then, I have to switch off the printer, remove the print job from the queue and switch on the printer again to get it out of the error state.
I also tried setting up the printer on the MBP using CUPS Admin interface, i.e. localhost:631. Again, printer gets added but document does not print. The third way I tried to add the printer was using the Windows option in the Add Printer dialog, and typing in an smb: URL but no luck with that, either.
Please, can anyone help me? This is driving me crazy
    Oh, and the devices are:
    1) Windows 7 Home Premium Desktop PC
    2) MacBook Pro running OS X Mountain Lion
    3) HP Deskjet F2110 printer
    Thanks...

First Install Bonjour for Windows on your Windows machine. This will allow the printer to be discovered.

  • Connect macbook to a printer

Hi, I'm a new mac user and firstly, let me just say that I'm really happy with my purchase (original Macbook). I've used PCs since 1996 and I don't know why I have waited this long.
I have a linksys WRT54G on one side of the room, and a printer that's not set up wirelessly (on a separate location in the computer room). We have 2 macbooks in the house, and I'd like to set up a wireless printer. How should I go about this?
Also, my internet connectivity is not as strong... could it be because I'm using a linksys and not a mac airport hub?
    Thanks in advance!

As far as the printer... the PC wireless to the WRT54G is ok. Enable printer sharing by right clicking on the printer icon in the printer & faxes section of the control panel. Select the option to share the printer. You can leave the default name windows selects for the share name. Apply the changes.
Now, on the macbooks, you can browse for windows printers when selecting a new printer to add. Once you have found your printer and added it, you'll select the driver from the huge list that is presented to you. If you cannot find an exact match for the printer, then visit the gutenprint web site and see if the latest package supports your exact printer:
    http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/index.php
If the gutenprint package does not contain a match, then you'll need to select the closest printer driver from the list and hope for the best. I had to use an older printer model for my printer and it prints fine.
As far as your router goes... I have the WRT54G and it works great for me. Like you said, you may be experiencing interference if you have lots of others near you using the same bandwidth. You might consider getting an 802.11a band router, which operates on the 5.8GHz band. That is likely to eliminate interference issues because most folks aren't going to pay extra for those routers unless they need to. I don't think the Airport will help you if in fact your issue lies with interference, unless the Airport operates on the "a" band.
Edit: Ok, I just visited the Apple website and it does seem that the Airport Express supports 802.11a, so perhaps that will solve your problem.
    Hope that helps.

  • Connecting Macbook with Time Capsule via Ethernet

    Hello!
I have a time capsule and a macbook. I used to backup my data with the time capsule via ethernet. Now there was an update to airport I guess and since then the menue to configure the time capsule looks different and now I have trouble finding out how to set up the connection between macbook and time capsule via ethernet. I dont want the WLAN to be used so I want the ethernet be the connecting part of both esp because i want to backup lots of data now but Im missing the setting that said use use time capsule via ethernet. I just dont know how to set it up now.
I have the ethernet cable in the very left ethernet slot next to the reset button of the time capsule and its also plugged in to the ethernet slot on the macbook. But what are the settings for this connection.
Can someone help please otherwise i think my 23GB backup will take 3 days...
    Thanks in advance
    Dine

Open the network preferences and make sure the ethernet is getting an IP from the TC.. you do not need to change any settings .. all you need is network connection.. if the ethernet is working just turn off airport for the time the backup is going on. Once you turn off airport in the MBP the connection will be forced to ethernet. You can do it more correctly by rearranging the order of preference for network connection.. but for now.. just turn off airport.

  • How to Connect Macbook with tv?

I have a macbook n would like to connect it to my tv, ive been browsin for the cables n i think i shud buy "Mini-DVI to Video Adapter" but is that the only cable i need? my tv has s-video entrance and a video(black), audio(yellow)

The adapter is just that, it's an adapter that gives you the hole to plug the cable into. You'll also need an s-video cable. You may also want to purchase an audio cable, as the video adapter and s-video are video only. There are quite a few minijack to RCA "Y" adapters. Are you certain the yellow plug is audio? Usually those kinds of ports are yellow (video), red (stereo audio left), and white/black (stereo audio right).

  • Can't connect macbook to wireless printer via time capsule

I recently installed time capsule as my lan router. i use a 10.6.8 macbook; i use a brother mfc-6490 printer wireless. the printer was working fine on my previous setup, which used just a normal wireless router. the printer sees the wireless network but i can't print to it from my macbook. i've reinstalled the drivers. any suggestions?

Did you delete the existing printer in System Preferences > Print & Fax, and add it again?
I realize you reinstalled the printer's drivers, but deleting and subsequently adding the printer is certain to be a requirement as a consequence of changing your router. As far as your MacBook is concerned, the printer no longer exists where it had been accustomed to finding it, so you simply have to tell it where it "lives" now.

Not sure of the specifics of your network/computers, I use Airprint Activator on my Mac which offers up any installed printer on the network as an 'Airprint' printer which iphones/ipads can see.

  • Hello, I currently have a MacBook snow leapord and i'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer, i put in the CD and installed everything properly but now when i add a printer it says a Queue already exists, i click continue and nothing happens???

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Snow Leapord and I'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer/scanner.
I installed the CD and followed along with the manual and did everything it asked, at the end it told me it was finished.
So then I went to go print something and an error had occured so i went to the file menu on Microsoft Word for
Mac and clicked Print/Add Printer and then i click on the Canon MP560 series-1 as it was the only one to click on.
When I did it stated that I already has a Queue for this printer and if I'd like to add a new one so I clicked continue and nothing
    had happend. PLEASE HELP
    sincerely,
    Laura.

I would recommend to download the driver appropriate for your system from the Canon webiste or, after installing it, to run software update and it will detect it for you.
If you have the last driver appropriate for your system, you may wish to reset the printing system. To do this, go to Sys prefs/print and fax and, upon clicking minus button, also press Option/alt key. You will be asked to confirm, do it. Then, add the printer by pressing plus button, it should work now.
But, before doing this, download the last good driver, CDs usually contain outdated drivers.
