Connecting Macs via Airport net

I am using 3 Macs: A, B and C. All are running OS 10.6.6. I enabled file sharing on all of them. On each Mac I could find the other 2 in the Finder. After connecting all 3 Macs between each other I for example could see in the Finder of Mac A the files of Mac B and Mac C.
"Suddenly" - I did not change any settings - Mac A and Mac B dont connect any longer. Mac A and Mac B appear in the Finder of Mac A, but no connection is possible. Connection between Mac A and Mac C continues working in both directions. The same for Mac B and Mac C.
The 3 Macs are connected over WLAN (Time Capsule)
Regards

Assuming you are correct that nothing in the configurations have changed, then I would start by shutting down all three computers, the TC, and your cable/DSL modem. Wait at least one minute. First, turn on the modem and wait for the status lights to indicate connection to your ISP. Next, turn on the TC and wait until it boots and the status lights indicate communication with the modem. Lastly, power up the computers. See if this restores your network function.

  • Connecting computers via Airport Express

I have a problem that I've been trying to solve, but so far nothing has worked.
I have three Macs, 2 G4 PowerBooks and an iMac (Core 2 Duo) which are all connected via an Airport Express. All of the computers can access the net and my printer just fine. The iMac can connect to both of the G4s, and one of the G4s can connect to both the iMac and the other G4. The problem is that one of the G4s can only connect to the other G4, not the iMac. It's as though the iMac does not exist for it's purposes. Yet I can connect to that G4 from the iMac, just not the other way around.
Any clues as to a fix for this would be greatly appreciated.

That is what you want to select.
You jumped into the middle of this thread. What
    problem do you have?
More to the point - what is YOUR problem...I think your response was a little rude...
One who has common sense can see what issue I am having simply by looking at the subject of the original post - and reading my entire post.
For your benefit, the subject is: Problems Connecting Two Computers to Cable Modem via AirPort Express.
If you read my post again, you will see that after following the advice given by Rj, I am still having problems. I will not re-post my question. Simply restating things in this post has been a waste of time.

  • Problems syncing with .mac via airport extreme

When I try to sync my calendar via .mac I get an error can't connect to .mac sync server. There does not appear to be a problem with idisk syncing.
When I use a hardwire connection I do not have a problem. I have no problem browsing or streaming itunes music using the express nor printing. It has been suggested that the signal being sent is not of sufficient "quality" for the .mac to accept the link.
Is this likely? Is it possible to alter the configuration of the airport to result in a stronger more stable link? I would be willing to sacrifice some speed for this reliability.

Therefore I was wondering if it's possible to connect my external drive to an extrem airport and to listen at the music from my mac via i-tunes to my stereo ?
Yes. You just need to point iTunes on your Mac to the new location for its Media Folder on the AirPort Disk attached to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS).

  • Can't access desktop Mac from Laptop Mac via Airport/Ethernet

    Hi.
I have an iMac G5 running 10.3.9 and a MacBook Pro running 10.4.8. I have recently gotten DSL. I have a DSL MODEM connected to a Belkin Router. The router is not wireless. I bought it when I got the iMac a couple of years ago, and the iMac had no Airport card in it.
I have connected the router to the MODEM, and the iMac (which does not have an Airport card) to the router via Ethernet. I have an Airport Express Base Station connected to the Belkin Router via Ethernet.
My MacBook Pro connects to the router via Airport.
I am connected to the internet with no problem.
My first problem is that, on the laptop in Finder, I can connect to my iMac through Connect to Server with no problems. However, I cannot do the same (i.e., connect through Connect to Server) from the iMac to the laptop.
The second problem is that I cannot use the printer connected (USB) to the iMac from the laptop. I could when the laptop was connected via Ethernet alone, but not since I introduced the Airport intot the network.
What am I doing wrong? BTW, I don't have an extra Ethernet cable or the right USB cable to connect the printer to the DSL MODEM, so I haven't tried that yet.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Make sure that the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) has "Distribute IP addresses," found on the Network tab of the AirPort Admin Utility, disabled.

  • Connect mac via thunderbolt

    Hello,
I was messing around with my 2011 imac, retina display macbook pro and a thunderbolt cable. I wondered wether it would be possible for the to computers to be "connected", not via any target mode (display or disc). just connected, i know it sounds weird but i think it would be cool to work on both computers with one mouse and keyboard. This way i dont have to switch from one pc to another. Besides using 1 keyboard, sharing files would be super easy.
I was wondering if a function like this exists. If not, apple please look in to it. I hate restarting my macbook or imac for file transfer via thunderbolt...
    Thanks in advance!

  • Connecting Wi-Fi Camera to Mac via Airport?

I just purchased a Nikon Coolpix P1, which is Wi-Fi certified. The manuals provided with the camera leave something to be desired, and I am having trouble establishing the Wi-Fi connection between the camera and my iMac. Should I in fact try to make that connection via my Airport Express system? If so, where can I find the settings I need to input into the camera? The camera and computer seemingly should be able to connect directly, but here too I'm not sure where to find the computer settings that the camera needs to have.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Welcome to the discussions!
I assume you've read these instructions.
Is your iMac connecting wirelessly to the Express for Internet already? If so then yes you should have the camera join that network. The settings you need for the camera can be found in Airport Admin Utility. SSID is the same as Airport Network Name. The online instructions at Nikon's technical support site look pretty good if the link above doesn't work.

  • Connecting to a pc from my mac via airport express wireless network

I have successfully been able to access my mac from my Windows XP machine via my AE wireless network that I set up with my Mac. However, I am unable to do the reverse. I.e. connect to my PC from my Mac.
There seem to be two issues I need to figure out to make this work:
    1. Firstly, the option to allow sharing for any of my Windows folders has been restricted because apparently I need to create a network first but I have a network and both the PC and Mac can access the internet, share a printer and see each other via this network so I don't understand what's wrong. Do I have to create a network from the pc side of things as well in order for this to work?
    2. When I attempt to connect to the pc from my mac I do the following from Finder: GO >> "Connect to Server" then I type in smb://<ip address of the pc>. When the dialogue comes up asking for "Workgroup/Domain", "Name" and "Password" comes up I know I have the correct workgroup and I know the pc is there because it's full name is displayed but I'm not sure what to enter as "Name" and "Password". I assumed it was the username and password for the windows user on the pc whose files/folders I want to access but then I'm told the connection can't be made because the name or password isn't correct. I tried every user name and password I could think of in these fields--even the accounts for my mac--but they all give me the same response.
I'd appreciate it if someone could someone lend a hand.
    Joey

Sorry, I don't know which articles you have already reviewed.
Sharing folders on the PC should be nothing more than enabling "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" option under Network options & then identifying which folders you want to share.

  • Allow wireless PC to access files on my Mac via airport express - possible?

I currently access the internet wirelessly via an airport express plugged into a netgear router, everything works great.
I also have a spare pc that i would like to be able to access the net wirelessly - it currently doesnt have a wireless card but i figure if i just get a usb unit it should be able to without too many problems as it should just detect my airport network (hopefully anyway).
Befor i go get the card tho, i was wondering if there will be a way to allow me to transfer files between the Mac HD and the PC HD - it wouldnt have to be 2-way, just so i could sit at my mac and send files over to the Pc - is this possible, and if so, a little help in how exactly to set it up would be appreciated!
    cheers!!

using the guide on that page i have managed to
connect to the Mac from the PC, but i am unable to
see the folders on my external hard-drive
You will need to use Sharepoints in order to share the external hard drive.

  • Connecting iphone via airport extreme on dsl

I just moved to a location that does not have access to cable internet and have switched to DSL..(*****). Is there any way for me to just connect without having to use PPPoE. with cable all I had to do was walk into the room..
Can anyone tell me how to connect an iphone via PPPoe?? If I connect to the router I still access the internet. How can I put my user name and password into my iphone like i do on my laptop via PPPoE or is there another way to connect??
    Please help!!

    Hola ehaser,
I have DSL and I have my Airpot Extreme connected to the DLS router using PPPoE. You do not have to enter the PPPoE info on the iPhone. All you need is the network name and password you have set up for on the Airport Extreme.

  • Internet Connection Not via Airport Express

I have a iMac connected to the internet via a DSL modem upstairs and an airport express downstairs connected to the stereo with the ethernet port turned off. It works fine for itunes. The airport express is configured as a base station and is using the 10.0.1. subnet. When I use an ibook to connect to the wireless network, I can see the iMac and transfer files, mount locations etc. fine, but I cannot get to the internet from the ibook. How do I configure the base station so that the ibook can get to the internet via the iMac, which uses a different IP assigned by the ISP.?

I have a iMac connected to the internet via a DSL
    modem upstairs
I assume an ethernet cable from modem to iMac, right?
    and an airport express downstairs
connected wirelessly to the iMac on the different network created by the Express, right?
    How do I configure the
base station so that the ibook can get to the
internet via the iMac, which uses a different IP
    assigned by the ISP.?
The Internet IP can be shared from iMac's ethernet to it's Airport via System Preferences/Sharing/Internet. Then the Express would need to connect to the iMac as a client which would continue to work for AirTunes but since the iMac sharing can't be a WDS Main Station the iBook wouldn't work.
The best strategy is to connect the DSL modem to the Express and then connect both the iMac and iBook wirelessly. That probably re-arranges where your stereo gets AirTunes so buy another Express or better yet an Extreme Base Station!

  • Printing Lighter from windows to mac via airport express

My wife has a windows vista computer and the only way she can print to our printer through the airport express is if she connects to the printer through my computer as a shared printer. Going directly to the printer via bonjour does not work.
Anyway, whenever she prints to the printer the text is always lighter than it should be or would be if she was directly connected to the printer. My iMac prints perfectly to the printer via the AE.
    Any ideas?

Airtunes actually only support MP3/AAC audio streaming from iTunes. That's too bad for video.
The things is, even with other Airtunes streaming software, the streaming delay is such that the song will be off by a few second from the video. I guess Apple have choose to do not stream video sound until this may be resolve.
Therefore, I'm not aware of any solution to this issue.

  • Can i share files between two macs via airport express?

hi. we have an imac and a macbook connected to the internet with airport express. all is well with that, but i'd like to be able to share files between the two computers. it seems like i should be able to, but i can't figure out how. can someone help?
    thanks.

Hello smw380. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Yes. You just need to enable "Personal File Sharing" on both Macs.
o System Preferences > Sharing > Services tab
o Personal File Sharing: On (checked)

  • 2 accts(2 libraries), 1 mac via airport-please help

    Hi,
I just picked up the 5th gen airport extreme; managed to set it up and link an external HDD on my admin account and worked fine but I ran into some issues when I switched over to my girlfriend side.  The hdd does not mount like a regular hard disc on her desktop. It does appear in the finder as a shared drive but it shows up as empty (0gig) and/or it shows up as a blue folder with a red X in the corner with no accessible data.  It wsn't until I ran the utility on her side that I was able to retrieve/view the contents on the drive yet it became all screwy on my side/account when I went back and I had to run the utility again.
Basically what I'm trying to do is to link my GF's iTunes library via the shared HDD w/o unlinking my own iTunes library on my account/side.  It seems that I can only get one account to link to any given iTunes library but not both at the same time.  It's driving me insane.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Disk Permissions changed after connecting mac via firewire on Target Disk Mode.

I have connected 2 macbook pros using firewire in target disk mode and the permissions on the destination macbook pro have changed. Now when I try to start the macbook pro, it stays on the grey screen and the apple sign changes to a prohibitory sign, therefore I cant log in.
    Please help!
    Thanks

I am unable to perform a safe boot, it simply wont happen.
I tried to start from mac osx install disk and that works so I am able to go disk utility, I can run 'verify disk' and 'repair disk' and it shows that everything is ok, however, I cant 'verify disk permissions' or 'repair disk permissions' as both are greyed out because 'the selected disk is not mounted'. I try mounting but that wont work either, I am told to 'disk can not be mounted, run first aid first and then retry'.
Furthermore, I try to perform 'archive and install' so I follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
But on number 7, intead of being able to choose volume to install to, there is nothing I can choose! There is no list. And of course I cant continue.
    Any help is appreciated!
