Connecting MB Pro w/OS 10.8.4 to other network computers hangs

I have updated my 2011 MB Pro to OS 10.8.4. I have an Airport Extreme network with 3 other desktop Macs connected - a Mac Pro, a G5, and an older iMac all runing a combination of Snow Leopard or Mountain Lion, but not the latest OS 10.8.4 update.
I can connect and share files from those older OS Mac desktops with each other and to the MB Pro. Trying to connect from the MB Pro to either desktop Mac hangs. In a nutshell - to the MB Pro is fine, from the MD Pro hangs. An icon for the selescted volume does appear on the MB Pro's desktop when try to access one of the desktops but the connection window stays open and I get the dreaded beach ball. Only answer is to shutdown the MB Pro, restart, and do the file sharing from the desktops to the MB Pro. That direction works okay.
I suspect there is something in the latest OS update that is causing the networking problem. Is there a fix? I could update the desltop Macs to OS 10.8.4 but am afraid I'll have no netwroking capability at that point. So, just checking to see if there is a known networking issue with OS 10.8.4, or perhaps a workaround.
Thanks Much!

Are you doing this via screen sharing?
On the MacBook Pro
Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application uninstaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • Cannot connect to internet on ipad mini need to use 'other network' please help

cannot connect to internet need another network as haven't password

The Other Network option is so you can connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot that might have its name hidden.  Other Network gives you the oppertunity to type the name of the hidden Wi-Fi hotspot so the iPad can see it.
If you are looking for a Wi-Fi hotspot to join, but can not because you do not have the password to join that network, you will need to ask the hotspot's owner for permission and a password before you can join.
If you have internet in your house and you want to connect your iPad Mini to the internet, you will need a wireless router or access point.  Ask your internet provider, they may already have that available for you and it would be a quick setup for them.
    Good luck,
    UG

  • Connections to networked computers hangs after upgrading to 10.8.4

I've upgraded to OS 10.8.4 on a 2011 MB Pro. I have 2 Mac Pros also and all are networked via an Airport Extreme. AP Extreme has a network HD connected for backups. The AP Extreme is running the latest firmware. Wireless diagnostics says connections are fine from the MB Pro. But Everytime I try to connect to a networked computer or the network HD the connection starts and all I get is the beachball of death. No connections!
On the Mac Pros I have not upgraded to OS 10.8.4 yet. And I can connect to the MB Pro, AP Extreme, etc without any problems. So this appears to be an issue with 10.8.4. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

How to connect macbook pro to panasonic hd tv with hdmi cable

    Hi m,
It depends which MPB you have and the inputs on the TV. The following assumes your TV has an HDMI input which will work with a computer.
This is if your MBP is from April 2010 or newer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241
First connect the adapter to the MBP and the HDMI cable from the adapter to the TV, then go to System Preferences > Sound > Output > select HDMI.
Or if your MBP is older than that and you have a Mini DisplayPort, you can use something like this: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMID/
If it's older than that, for video you need a DVI or mini DVI to HDMI or whatever input your TV has. For audio, you need a 3.5mm stereo mini plug to RCA or optical (Toslink), depending on what audio input your TV has.

Any experience with cables for connecting MacBook Pro 17" Mountain Lion with HDMI port on TV, Panasonic TC-P55ST50 (or similar)?

It depend upon the model (age) of you MBP.  If you have a Thunderbolt or minidisplay port, then you will need a minidisplay/HDMI adapter.
    eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/CBLMDPHDMI/
Or you can get an all in one:
    http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Premium-DisplayPort-Thunderbolt/dp/B004CADYD O/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1361985588&sr=1-3&keywords=minidisplay+hd mi
If you have an older mac with a DVI port, you will need something like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/DVI-HDMI-Cable-6ft-Male-Male/dp/B0002CZHN6
Note that audio is supported via HDMI for MBPs 2010 and later.  Earlier ones require tapping the audio output port.
    Ciao.

  • Can't connect Macbook Pro to TV with HDMI

I have a Macbook Pro (osx Lion) and I can not connect it to my tv. I am using a mini display port to HDMI adapter to connect to my Insignia TV. Whenever I connect it the screen on my laptop goes blue for a second but nothing shows up on the TV. When I check for displays nothing happens and the TV says no signal. I have tried using other cords and have had the same result. When I try to use the same cord and adapter on a different TV it works just fine. The TV model is an Insignia LCD TV NS-L22Q-10A. Please help, I have tried various methods and still can not get it to work.

    Hello Alley-cat,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I found an article to assist with troubleshooting external displays connected to your mac that should prove helpful.
Named Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays you can find it here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573.
No video or no signal, image distortion, "snow," or flickering
    Check connections
When using an external display be sure to check the following:
If you're using an Apple notebook, confirm the AC power cable or adapter is securely connected to the computer and the cable providing power to the display is also secure. It is always good to have your notebook connected to AC power when an external display is in use.
Confirm display adapters are fully seated in their respective connections and that they are supported models and for the computer and display. Refer to these articles to assist you with adapter compatibility and further configuration information:
    Monitor and Display Adapter Table
About Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters
Apple Mini DisplayPort adapters: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Thunderbolt ports and displays: Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Remove all display cable extenders, KVM switches, or other like devices and retest to determine if the issue is resolved.
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolutionStart by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, you can drag the display pictures to match the actual arrangement, drag the menu bar to the other display, or enable mirroring.

  • Update: audio problems connecting macbook pro to insignia TV: resolved

There have been posts from users who have expressed frustration that they cannot get audio when they attempt to connect their macbook pro to an Insignia TV.
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=10830387
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2192206
Insignia customer service also attempts to state that the pre-April 2010 macbook pros cannot get audio output to the TV, because the units are designed to get the audio on the same HDMI and no alternative audio input is available on the TV.
    http://community.insigniaproducts.com/t5/Televisions/Connecting-MacBook-Pro-to-T V/td-p/5564
For the Insignia models (from 2010 onwards and possible some from 2009 as well), there is a simple workaround that does not seem to be published elsewhere on the internet (as far as I can see):
Use the HDMI port 1 only (audio does not work with port 2, port 3 or port 4) to connect your macbook and you will receive 1080p video signal.
Use a mini stereo audio cable (example link below) and connect your macbook audio output to a designated green color coded audio port on the TV located right next to the VGA. You will receive full stereo audio.
Example link for mini stereo audio cable:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00116VJIO

I recently acquired a new Insignia TV and had sound trouble.  I went to Best Buy to inquire about the cable in the link above and the sales manager had doubts.  He recommended a RCA cable with a male connection at both ends.  The RCA jack is on the bottom edge of the TV display next to the VGA connection.  The sound worked perfectly using the RCA cable from the headphone jack on the Mac.  I connected the video with a HDMI adapter from the monitor mirroring port.

  • Problems connecting MacBook Pro to Apple TV

not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but my macbook pro won't connect to my apple tv via airplay anymore. My college has really spotty wifi and it's extremely selective sometimes (one time it wouldn't let me log into the site that i put in my schedule for work, it just kept refreshing the site after i would hit submit) so i'm not sure if this is a software problem or if its my wifi. I can still connect on my iphone just not my laptop.

That would be a wifi issue, mirroring requires a lot more resources from the network and will need a stable/consistent connection. There would likely be a lot of other activity occurring as well so that will impact performance.

Can't connect macbook pro to internet with airport extreme

If you have ethernet still on your MBP plug it in by ethernet and tell me if that works.
Tell me how the Airport is setup.. what broadband modem and router you have.
What OS on the laptop? Yosemite I guess.. since it is the most troublesome.
Did it work before whatever change was made? Has it worked in the past? When did it stop and what did you do that coincided with it stopping?
    Upgrade to Yosemite??

  • Can't Connect MacBook Pro and Mac Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (pre 2008 - dual core) running OS X 10.6.7 and I regularly connect it to the Mac Pro at my work (also running OS X 10.6.7). I've had no problems until recently. Now, when I try to connect, I get the following message:
"The server "name of my MacBook Pro" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Sometimes I click the icon to connect, the computer tries for a minute or so to connect, then it disappears from the shared list.
This happens whether I try to connect from either computer to the other one.
    Ideas? Suggestions?
    This is frustrating.

I'm still having problems with connecting my MacBook Pro with my Mac Pro. Both are running Snow Leopard (10.6.7). I have tried repairing permissions and toggling settings in my Sharing, but no luck. I'm still getting "The server "name of my MacBook Pro" may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Anyone have any other suggestions?
