Connecting Microphone to record voice memos

Recently installed the new software update (3.0) on my iPod Touch. I would like to use the voice memo app that automatically loaded with the update.
I have a Sony Bluetooth stereo head set with built in microphone (DR-BT100CX). I had no trouble pairing the headset with the iPod Touch and it works flawlessly as a head set. (I can listen to music, movies, etc.)
But when I launch the voice memo app and try to record, it tells me there is no microphone connected.
Is there a setting that needs to be tweaked or adjusted that might make this work?
If there is some reason this particular headset with microphone will NOT work with the voice memo app, can someone recommend a headset/microphone that DOES work with the iPod Touch?

Until Apple gets us set up to be able to use BlueTooth Headsets w/mics, I'm using this http://www.switcheasy.com/products/ThumbTacks/ThumbTacks.php To hear the quality of the SwitchEasy Mic click on the orange iLounge logo in the link. It's great and only $12.99!
My complaint is I can't give a title to my Voice Memos on my iPod Touch 2G. Yes…I know I can label the voice memos once they've synced in iTunes, but I'd like the label to be on my iPod, too.

  • External microphone for recording voice memos on iPhone?

  • Ear bud not recording voice memo

I have an iPod Touch 64GB and the first day I used the voice recording feature it went great. But yesterday I have to use it again but after playing the recording there was nothing in the recording. Does the earbud are broken or do I have to go somewhere in the iPod settings to see if there is a button that I need to turn on??

  • I am unable to use my bluetooth headset to record voice memos, is there a trick to this?

I have a Plantronics Voyager Pro+ Bluetooth headset, I am unable to use it to record voice memos on my Iphone 4, using IOS 6.1.3.  The memos record fine when using the built-in mike but not the Bluetooth headset.  Does anyone have any insight or comments that might help resolve this situation?
    Thank you.

    Hello jaymecaroline,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
The steps below will help you in resolving this issue of your iPhone giving you a No SIM alert.
Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
Toggle Airplane mode On and Off.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Check for a carrier settings update. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, a prompt will appear.
Remove the SIM Card and verify that it is a valid, carrier-manufactured SIM. Also verify that it is not damaged, worn, or modified. Then reinsert it.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you still are unable to resolve this issue, contact Apple support for further assistance.

  • I can record voice memos fine using the built-in iPhone 4 mic.  And my Bluetooth headset (Jawbone Era) works fine when I leave messages on voice mail systems etc. when calling on the iPhone 4.  However, I cannot record voice memos with my Bluetooth mic.

I can record voice memos fine using the built-in iPhone 4 mic.  And my Bluetooth headset (Jawbone Era) works fine when I leave messages on voice mail systems etc. when calling on the iPhone 4, so it appears my headset mic is fine.  I can also use voice activated dialing, although it fails miserably interpreting numbers.  However, I cannot record voice memos with my Bluetooth mic.   I just get barely audible static.  Any suggestions?   Thanks.

Hello, did you ever get an answer to your question? I just picked up a Jawbone Era and using on an iPhone 4s running 5.0.1. Seems to work fine on regular calls, but not on the built in Voice memos application. It worked fine on my older Jawbone Icon, but haven't tested on the 4s or iOS 5.
    Thanks!

  • IPhone 4s recorded voice memos failing to send and locking memo app.

I am using an iPhone 4s 16gb with the latest ios. When I record a voice memo, and then try to send it via iMessage it often fails to send.  It does not provide any error messages but what will happen is, I will push the "send" button and the phone will sit there doing nothing for a second then the memo will disappear having not actually send anything. This causes me to have to reboot the phone or I can not send recorded memo's via any message format. (ie text, imessage, email) Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

  • Irony: Voice Control can't be used to record voice memos?

Does anybody else find it ironic and short-sighted that Apple didn't include a way to use Voice Control to control the Voice Memos app? Or am I missing something? This would be incredibly useful for me and I'm sure for many others.
Heading over to the feedback page...

It can't? Wow, that was silly. I'll make the same complaint - I would have liked that feature, too. Thanks for letting us know.

  • I can't afford an expensive microphone, but I want better quality than internal microphone to record voice. What's out there?

I can't afford an expensive microphone attachment, but I want higher quality to record my voice for eventual radio use. What's out there as far as inexpensive attachments that are easy to use? What can I do using my MacBook Pro?

Not sure what your idea of inexpensive is - have you searched for USB Microphones yet?  There are hundreds of choices under $100 compatible with Mac or Pc.  I'd be cautious and read reviews of the cheaper items as the built-in mic seems to be better than most $20-$30 ones.

  • Voice memos are not recorded properly on my Ipod touch. It records voice memos but I cannot hear them. Please Help.

I record class lectures but for the last couple of days I have been unable to hear the recordings. The sound is practically nonexistent. Perhaps it is a problem with the speakers but  I am unable to determine a problem.

When you recored the memo did you get a good signal on the VU meter?
Try using headphone to rule out a speaker problem.

  • GarageBand not Recording Voice or Skype after update

I have been using Garage Band 6.2.2 to record my Podcast for over a year now and since the latest update I am now dead in the water. I use Soundfllower and Line-in to grab the Audio from Skype and my Samsung Mic to record in Garage Band. Now with all settings being the same Garage Band does not see any audio coming in. I can see Audio in system settings, Skype and in Line-in. Any Help would be appreciated.

  • I have a brand new iPod Touch. I recorded three voice memos, then synced with my computer. Now the voice memo feature no longer works on my iPod.

My iPod touch is no longer recording voice memos. It worked for a while, then I synced it with my computer. Now it no longer works. I bought this for the main purpose of recording, and it no longer does this. It responds like it is recording, i.e. the needle moves in response to sound, but nothing is saved, and when I try to see the list of memos on the iPod by touching the correct button, absolutely nothing happens.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • I have a Voice Memo recording in my iPod Classic which I want to transfer to the iTunes Library.  How can I do this?

I have a Voice Memo recording in my iPod Classic which I want to transfer to the iTunes Library.  How can I do this?

    From here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2396
Transferring a recording to a computer
    Manually
Voice memos are saved in a Recordings folder on iPod in the WAV file format. If you enable iPod for disk use, you can drag voice memos from the folder to copy them.
    Synchronize
If iPod is set to update songs automatically and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically downloaded to a playlist in iTunes when you connect iPod. Once downloaded, the voice memos are removed from the Voice Memos folder on your iPod. To play the voice memos that have been synchronized to your computer in iTunes, select the Voice Memos playlist on the left side of the iTunes window. To play the synchronized voice memos on the iPod, select the Voice Memos playlist in the Music menu, not the Voice Memos menu in the Extras menu.

  • Voice Memos have stopped Recording on iphone 4S

Appreciate advice for eliminating this problem:
Needle not moving when I record voice memos on iphone 4S.
    No sound in playback.
Was working great until last week.

Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo.

  • Voice memos won't record

Aside from my issues with my 4S not playing videos - I can't seem to record Voice memos either.  I hit the red record button, it beeps for like a second then stops.  Siri works fine, I've no issues with making calls so it's not a mic problem - help me out please.  I'm thinking a restore might be necessary or a trip to the Apple Store which'll be heaving this time of the year....

I had the same problem, but after importing all my 600 photos to my computer and deleting them from the phone, the voice memo worked like a charm.  I couldn't take any more pictures either until I deleted them from the phone.

  • Voice Memo on Classic Ipod 12GB

is Voice Memo on the new 120gb Classic? if so how can i use it, and where in menu is it?
i'm trying to record my vinyl directly onto IPod using an Numark TTI Turntable with IPod Dock.
Please help nearly 2 days need a fast solution
    Cheers

    Here's what the manual says:
You can record voice memos using the optional Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic or an optional iPod classic-compatible microphone (available for purchase at www.apple.com/ipodstore). You can store voice memos on iPod classic and sync them with your computer. You can set voice memo quality to Low or High.
Note: Voice memos can’t be longer than two hours. If you record for more than two hours, iPod classic automatically starts a new voice memo to continue your recording.
    To record a voice memo:
1 Connect the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic to iPod classic, or connect a microphone to the Dock connector port on iPod classic. The Voice Memos item appears in the main menu.
2 To begin recording, choose Voice Memos > Start Recording.
3 Speak while wearing the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic, or hold the microphone a few inches from your mouth and speak. To pause recording, press the Play/Pause button. Choose Resume to continue recording.
4 When you finish, choose Stop and Save. Your saved recording is listed by date and time.
To play a recording: Choose Extras > Voice Memos and select the recording.
Note: You won’t see a Voice Memos menu item if you’ve never connected a microphone or the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic to iPod classic.
To sync voice memos with your computer:
Voice memos are saved in the Voice Memos application on iPod in the WAV file format.
If you enable iPod classic for disk use, you can drag voice memos from the folder to copy them.
If iPod classic is set to sync songs automatically (see “Syncing Music Automatically” on page 24) and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically synced to a playlist in iTunes (and removed from iPod classic) when you connect iPod classic. You see the new Voice Memos playlist in the source list.
