Connecting midi?

I have tried to connect my Kawai380 electric piano to a macbook pro via cable which has input and output from kb sockets, a midi junction boxand a usb connection to my mac but they won't talk to each other. Have tested using Sibelius and other programmes.

You may just need a compatible USB Midi adapter. There are a few for the Mac. Verify with the vendor they have tested it with your operating system.

• How to cancel a http connection mid-way

Hi,
I would like to cancel a http connection mid-way.
For example, I may make a connection to a web server and the midlet will display a wait screen with a Gauge showing the status of the connection. The screen also has a Cancel button to allow the user to cancel the connection.
I have written a method to cancel the connection (as below), but it doesn't work. The connection continues to be processed.
public void cancel () {
try {
if (httpconn != null) httpconn.close();
if (instrm!=null) instrm.close();
if (outstrm!=null) outstrm.close();
if (bStrm!=null) bStrm.close();
} catch (Exception e) { logger.addLog("cancel "+e.toString()); }
}Has anyone successfully tried to cancel a http connection mid-way?
Thanks.

Hi,
I was also facing such problem but i got a solution for it.Method in which your are making HTTP Connection check a boolean variable after every line if
boolean variable is true than terminate connection otherwise continue connection. And set boolean variable true when cancel method is called.

• How to connect mid 2012 MacBook Pro to home theater system

Okay so I'm looking at purchasing a home theater system and was wanting to know the best way to connect my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to the home theater system and TV. I am wanting to play both movies (Netflix etc) and music. Will my MacBook play 5.1 surround sound to the home theater system? Whats the best way to connect this all up? MacBook audio to the home theater system via Digital Optical from the headphone port with a 3.5mm to toslink adapter and then video to the TV via HDMI cable from the thunderbolt port with thunderbolt to HDMI adapter? My thinking was to separate the video and audio to get the best picture and sound. Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Will my MacBook play 5.1 surround sound to the home theater system?
Yes.
Whats the best way to connect this all up?
An AppleTV or any AirPlay-enabled AVR. AirPlay is wireless, though you could use wired Ethernet if you want to avoid all the potential problems associated with wireless. Make sure it specifically says AirPlay which is Apple's proprietary technology. There are quite a few of them to choose from today. Denon is one, I believe Pioneer, there may be others. Shop around. The AppleTV's price was recently reduced to $69 US and may actually be the most cost-effective solution, allowing you to research the best AVR for your needs. The AppleTV has both HDMI (audio and video) and optical audio outputs.
MacBook audio to the home theater system via Digital Optical from the headphone port with a 3.5mm to toslink adapter and then video to the TV via HDMI cable from the thunderbolt port with thunderbolt to HDMI adapter?
Way too complicated But if you really don't want to use AirPlay, you can purchase an inexpensive (< $10) Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter and an equally inexpensive (<$3) HDMI cable to any HDMI input on your AVR.
My thinking was to separate the video and audio to get the best picture and sound.
It makes absolutely no difference. HDMI and optical audio use completely identical digital audio signals.

• Connecting mid-2007 iMac to LG TV via mini dvi to HDMI

I am trying to connect my mid-2007 iMac to my 42" LG HDTV to no avail. I am running iOS 10.6 Snow Leopard. I bought the mini dvi to HDMI adapter and plugged the iMac into the TV. I went to the display tab in the system settings and see that the iMac recognizes the tv. I went to the arrangements section and it recognizes the tv. When I click on gather windows it even calls it the LG TV. However, there is nothing showing on my TV. It says no input detected. When I move my mouse to the right side of the screen it disappears like it is going to a second monitor.
Any thoughts?

Hey Corinthone, did you ever figure it out? I have a mid2007 iMac running snow leopard & a 120hz LGTV 42". I was having the same issues as you(yes Frankie, I made sure I was selecting the correct hdmi input). Now with the same setup, my LG recognizes the HDMI input from my iMac. It says connecting but then 'no signal' on the screen. The hdmi2 is still showing a connection in 'inputs' just no picture on TV. I started changed the setting via my mac but still nada. The lg is 120hz. Does that have anything to do with it? Thanks

• What cables are required to connect Mid 2010 MacBook Pro to my TV?

Hi,
I've seen a number of forum posts stating that there are mixed issues with different models of MacBook Pro's and connecting to your television. I have a mid 2010 model, 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, purchased in August of that year.
I have an Apple TV hooked up, which is fab for my iTunes music, pics and movies, however I'd like to get the SkyGo/Anytime+ working but can only do so by buying an X-Box or a cable - You've guessed it, the cable wins!
Would someone please be able to point me in the right direction? Some of the info I have found is quite conflicting.
Many thanks in advance.

Assuming your TV has HDMI inputs, you will need a mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter that supports audio, and a standard HDMI cable of the appropriate length. Your MacBook Pro outputs an audio signal through its Mini-Displayport, unlike earlier models. Once you make the physical connection, you'll have to select the proper HDMI port as the input in the TV's menu system, and select the TV (or perhaps "HDMI") as the output device in the Output tab of the Sound pane in System Preferences on the Mac.
Conflicting information most often gets posted here when responders are guessing about the equipment being used. You've done a good job of identifying your MBP model, so answering your question with assurance is easy.

• Connecting Mid 2012 MBPro to External Monitor

I've recently purchased a Mini Display Port to Display Port cable to connect my Mid 2012 MacBook Pro (Non Retina) to a 23" Asus PA238Q IPS Monitor, when I connect it It displays an image ok, it sometimes flickers but the main problem is it won't display an image in any other resolution other than the MacBook Pros native resolution.
The main reason I wanted to use an external monitor from time to time is for photography related work and using an IPS Monitor with a resolution of 1920x1080 would be hugely beneficial, not to mention the fact it's 23" not 15"
Is there a way I can get my MBPro to display the image properly at 1920x1080?
Huge thanks in advance for any help!

Can you post a screen shot of your Displays preference pane -> http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4391?
Should look something like this:

• Connecting Mid-2009 MacBook Pro to multiple monitors?

Hey everyone,
I have a Mid-2009 MBP 5,3-- the type with a Mini Displayport, Firewire 800, 2 USB ports, and an ExpressCard slot. I'm trying to connect multiple monitors to it. The monitors may have different sizes/resolutions, so I'm not looking for a solution like the Matrox DualHead2Go, which apparently stretches out a virtual screen across multiple devices. My MBP should recognize each external monitor as its own device.
In all likelihood I'll be using the Mini Displayport for the first monitor. After doing some research, I can't really figure out the best way to get a second screen attached to the MBP:
People seem to complain about the refresh rate when using USB-to-X adapters for second monitors. Is there a better alternative to USB?I was thinking about ExpressCard-to-X adapters, but not sure this would work for second monitors.
Up to how many monitors could my MBP recognize? Theoretically I could connect 2 through USB + 1 through ExpressCard, but not sure this would work.
Thank you in advance for any tips.

Thank you ogelthorpe for the information. I have found the same cable that you lnked here in Spain/UK but can not find the exact one. The nearest I have found is this one.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000068O3B/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc= 1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLEhttp://
Would that one be suitable. I contacted the manufacturer and asked if it would do the job and they replied
Our CMR-210 is designed to pass analog audio only. Quite often the newer TV's receive only digital information. I would refer to your TV manual or perhaps the TV manufacturer regarding the Audio in jack on your TV to see if it is digital or analog.
Can you please give me any guidance.

• How do I connect MIDI to MacBook Air

Having installed Hauptwerk virtual organ, I want to configure connection from MacBook Air to Johannus Organ (uses RCA plugs). How do I connect Air to organ?

• Connecting MIDI controller via USB

Does anyone know how to connect a Roland SH-201 to a MacBook Pro via USB to use as a midi controller in Logic Express 8. I've installed the SH-201 driver, however I am getting a warning saying it is not compatible with an Intel based Macbook.
Just some general guidance in connecting a keyboard via USB to work within Logic Express 8 would be good.
Thanks.

Well, if the synth's USB driver is not compatible with your laptop's system, there is nothing you can do about it I'm afraid. There is always an option to get a portable USB to MIDI Interface (price would be around $20-50, I think) and connect your synth to Macbook Pro through it.

• Can't connect MIDI devices in Audio Midi Setup

In the help for Audio Midi Setup, step 7 says you can connect devices as follows:
"7. To specify the connection between MIDI devices, drag the output or input connectors above the device icon to the corresponding connector on the other device icon."
I can drag out a line from the device ports ("connectors"), but cannot find a way to make those lines "stick" to a second MIDI device or its ports -- i.e., I cannot connect devices like this at all.
Is this just me? Is this feature not yet implemented perhaps?
Thanks!

Ok, I finally solved this. For whatever reason, I could not set up connections between my auto-detected USB MIDI devices in Audio MIDI Setup -- maybe it is just not designed for this, or maybe I'm still not understanding what to do. i.e., I could not connect my E-MU 0404/USB to any port on my MOTU MIDI Express 128.
However, I was able to configure the individual MIDI interfaces (i.e. the E-MU or the MOTU, separately), using "Add Device" and then connecting between those interface devices and the newly added devices. This was the first time I had seen the "connectors" actually "take" and connect between entities within the Audio MIDI Setup utility, so that was a relief. Presumably doing this informs applications on the Mac how the MIDI system is set up -- I just thought it did more than that, i.e. allow direct routing between MIDI devices using just the utility itself.
I still don't know if I am meant to be able to connect a keyboard to a synth using just Audio MIDI Setup alone (what I had hoped), but I certainly can't seem to get that simple config to work and will have to resort to using some additional software like a sequencer. Not my preference, but c'est la vie.
Thanks for all the suggestions,
Stewart.

• Connecting Midi Keyboard

Hey everyone,
I am trying to get the yamaha ypg-225 to work with a software instrument in logic. THe keyboard has an internal midi device or something so it just uses usb to connect to my laptop. Specifically I am using Native Instruments FM8 and I can get it to work when i run the program as a standalone and turn on the midi connection in preferences. My question is, what do i have to change in preferences to connect the keyboard?
Thanks

You need do nothing.
As long as OSX sees the MIDI interface from the keyboard, then all is good. Logic will receive MIDI from all MIDI ports that OSX knows about - what the transport while you play some notes - you should see MIDI activity.

• Need advice for connecting MIDI-apparat to pc

Hello,
I have a digital piano which i want to connect to my computer. So i can use some software to record notes being played.
Which would be the most obvious way in connecting it? Just a MIDI-USB data cable (or a MIDI-Gameport. I still have an old SBLive) or do I need to buy an MIDI interface like for example a M-Audio MIDIman?
Is there anyone who could give advice in what is the easiest way? Because I dont want to spend weeks on how to get things working. I had that before with other stuff
Thanks.

A Midi-USB cable will work, but be wary of any cheap brands as this can give problems with unofficial extensions like Yamaha's XG or Roland's GS (or like above, high latency) I have an E-MU X-midi 1x1 USB Tab myself. Works fine with my keyboard, both ways, but I can't transfer any songs into the database (not sure whether it's the cable of Yamaha's crappy software).

• Connecting midi devices

Hi there guys and girls....
At the moment I'm using GB on my imac G5 to write music as I'm waiting for other software to arrive. I am trying to connect a midi keyboard(Korg Karma) and a midi interface (Midisport 4x4) so that I can record midi into GB. I have loaded the OMS software and the midisport software aswell as OS 9 and a couple of patches from the Korg site to try and get the **** thing to recognise the items but with no luck. Items are not recognised in the Audio/midi setup in utilities. When i search the system for midi devices nothing is recognised. I have also tried adding a device, but to tell the truth I have no idea how this works as I was a mac virgin till 2 weeks ago ;o) Am I doing something wrong or is this going to be much easier/better when I load up logic? Any remaks or suggestions would be great. Rob

OS9 has nothing to do with it.
1) Did you install the drivers for the midi interface? If not, try to get the most recent package from the manufacturer's website. Install it, then attach the midi interface again.
2) Open "Audio MIDI Setup". You can find it in the "Utilities" section of the Applications folder.
3) Check the "MIDI setup". If everything is all right, your MIDI interface should be visible.
4) Add a device that represents your keyboard, choose a decent icon, fill in which ports it can receive and send, and give it an easy name.
5) Connect one of the outputs of your MIDI interface to one of the inputs of your keyboard, and vice versa.
Now you can open GarageBand, and it should make sounds when you select a track with a plug-in instrument (not a track containing audio loops) and hit a note on the keyboard.

• Connect Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to HDTV via Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter

Hello,
I'm trying to connect my Mac to my HDTV via a Mini Displayport to HDMI converter I bought at the Apple Store. I have tried on three different HDTVs, none of which allow me to output video. I have tried adjusting the resolution to every available resolution under system preferences. Any advice as to how to resolve this problem would be very much appreciated.
Thank you,
Jordan

I'm having the same problem, also with a 2009 13" MBP and a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. Does anyone out there have a solution? Do we need a different kind of adapter? My tv is a Samsung 720p. My boyfriend can connect his PC laptop with an HDMI cable with no issues.
