Connecting Mini to Phillips 55PP95 0217 HDTV

So I am trying to connect a new Mini to a Phillips rear projection HDTV using a DVI-D duel link cable to the DVI port on the TV. When I first started it up, I could see the grey screen with the apple logo and the TV showed 480p, but as soon as it would go to what would be the screen with the startup status bar on it, the TV would show a bunch of horizontal lines, like it was attempting to send at 720p. My TV can handle either 480p or 1080i but not 720p. After hooking it up to a VGA monitor, going through the initial setup and lowering the resolution on the monitor, it still isnt working.
One final tidbit of info, when the computer was forced to shut down by holding the power in the begining, each startup I could see the grey screen with the apple logo before the image went out. After going through the initialization and connecting to the TV again, the first time I still could see the apple logo, but after shutting down the computer using the keyboard, now even that initial splash screen appears to be sending in 720p.
Starting in Safe mode doesnt help either. Is there any way to force the display settings to either 480p or 1080i without using the monitor? Thanks,
Steve

Unfortunately there is no way to force the mini into a certain video mode short of selecting it in Display Preferences with the display in question attached. Since you can't get a working screen from the Philips, you may need to resort to using a second computer on the same network with the mini and running a VNC server on the mini and a VNC client on the second computer. In this way you will be able to see and control the mini's screen remotely from the second computer. You can then set 1080i (assuming it is an available option in the mini's preferences) and from there on the mini should stay locked to that setting.

  • How can I connect my new macbook pro to HDTV, either wirelessly or via a cable?

I just got a Macbook Pro about a month ago and I'm trying to figure out how to connect it to my HDTV. Is it possible to connect it and simply use the HDTV as a display that way?
Ideally, I'd like to connect it wirelessly, but if not, I understand that a cable should work. I tried to look for a cable from one of the Macbook Pro's ports to the HDMI port on the tv... but couldn't find anything. My old Macbook had a DVI port and I don't think it exist anymore (unless I'm missing it).
    Hope to hear back soon.

If your MBP can use it, I highly recommend the following adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't have a capable mini DisplayPort, since my not-quite-one-year-old MBP does.  But to be sure, first make sure you've got a mini DisplayPort, then scroll down on the page above and find a user comment titled "How you know if it is supported w/o guessing."

Trying to connect Apple TV (2g) HDMI to HDTV with only component video input.  Can I use a simple cable or do I need a converter box/plug? Is the HDMI signal coming from ATV encrypted or HDCP enabled?
The TV is HD, but only has a component input and not HDMI.  Apple TV 2g only has HDMI output.

Thank you for reaching out to us. I am glad to see that you are exploring options to expand your device. The LG Lucid 2 is a Bluetooth capable device. If the mini keyboard is android capable then you should have not troubles with connecting it. Most keyboards have listed the compatible functionalities on them. • Connect Mid-2009 Macbook Pro to HDTV via Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter

    Hello,
I'm trying to connect my Mac to my HDTV via a Mini Displayport to HDMI converter I bought at the Apple Store. I have tried on three different HDTVs, none of which allow me to output video. I have tried adjusting the resolution to every available resolution under system preferences. Any advice as to how to resolve this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jordan

I'm having the same problem, also with a 2009 13" MBP and a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.  Does anyone out there have a solution?  Do we need a different kind of adapter?  My tv is a Samsung 720p.  My boyfriend can connect his PC laptop with an HDMI cable with no issues.

  • Connecting to a Samsung TX-R3079WH HDTV w/Mini-DVI to HDMI

Greetings, I have a Samsung TX-R3079WH 30" HDTV that has an HDMI input (which works just fine via cable box input), and I have a Rev C Powerbook G4 12" 1.33 GHz with an nVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 64 MB AGP graphics card with the mini-DVI output (which works with the converter to a 17" CRT via VGA).
I recently purchased a 4 m Radio Shack DVI to HDMI cable to connect the PowerBook to the Samsung TV. I am connecting the DVI cable through the DVI to Mini-DVI converter from Apple to the PowerBook.
At first, when I had the Mini-DVI/DVI connector attached to the laptop, I had the TV turned off and plugged in the HDMI cable to the TV. I turned on the TV, and my computer's display definitely recognized the external display. The problem initially was probably a refresh rate/resolution problem I guess, since the TV was reporting "No Signal" but the laptop definitely recognized an external display, which had its own icon in the System Preferences Displays panel (running at what looked like 640 x 480, definitely smaller than the native res 1024 x 768 of my primary display).
Anyhow, I didn't recognize what the problem was then, but now when I try and connect the DVI/Mini-DVI to the HDMI, all I get is incessant flashing from my primary display as it tries to decide whether or not there's something attached.
Any suggestions on getting this setup to work? Thanks in advance.

never mind found the mirror display function.

  • Connecting Mini to HDTV

I've got my Mini connected to a HDTV via a DVI to HDMI cable and it seems I can't get the display size to exactly match my TV's display size. If I enable overscan then a noticeable amount of the screen is cut off on all sides. If I disable it, then the image is too small for the screen.
If I connected via VGA then the image fits pretty closely, but there is still some overscan. Suggestions?

Is your TV a rear projection TV by any chance? RPTVs are, by design, set to overscan the image to some degree and hence are not very good when used as computer monitors. They really don't have a way displaying full screen and native.

  • Problem trying to connect mini-dp dvi to HDTV

Hi, i just came home all happy from buying a mini displayport to dvi, had all the cables set but it seems its not working... I dont know if i have to do something but as of now can´t see anything in the tv.
I´m using the mini displayport to dvi and a cable that is dvi-d single link to hdmi.
Might the cable be the problem? do i have to press a button in the mac? i´m totally lost here.
    Thanks!

I know certain devices require an HDMI connection to work. Part of the implementation of HDMI was to try and curtail pirating by digital copying, so many devices look for a "handshake" in order to function.
I have personally just purchased a new MBP, so I don't have personal experience with what you are trying to do yet, but I did get a Mini Displayport to DVI adapter and we have a DVI to HDMI cable at our church. If I have time I'll try it out to see if it works or not and let you know.
I do know that my Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter I just received this afternoon from monoprice.com DOES work on my Panasonic plasma TV. For $10 it might be worth getting instead of wasting time troubleshooting what you have.

  • How to connect macbook pro 15 inch to hdtv ?

    Hi support community,
I want to connect a mid 2012 macbook pro to my HDTV, but this model has no mini display port, HDMI or VGA port, only thunderbolt and firewire ports. I had a look through the accessories but can't find anything. Am I missing something obvious? I do have a mini display port to VGA adapter from when I had a macbook previously, could this be utilised?
    Thanks in advance!

You can use Mini Displayport in your Thunderbolt port.

  • Connecting Macbook Pro 15" to Samsung HDTV - Audio Problem

    Hey guys,
I'm new to these forums so I hope i'm posting this in the correct section! On to my problem...I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz- Late 2009 (model: MB986LL/A) and I'm currently trying to connect it to my new TV which is a Samsung LCD HDTV (model: LN46C610).
The video connection is perfect. I'm using Apple's Mini-DisplayPort to DVI, via DVI to HDMI to my TV.
The audio connection for some reason is not working.
I've tired using an RCA cable, which has a regular audio jack on one end, and the 2 coloured wires (yellow + red) at the other end. No luck.
Now I was told to buy a Mini-Toslink cable to connect from my TV to my MBP. I've plugged the Optical Cable into the TV and the other end to my MBP. Yet I still have no sound.
Can anyone please guide me on how to set this up? Maybe i'm doing something wrong or i'm using the wrong cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Karman

Ok i'm in the Utility but i'm confused...where would I go to select it to change the output?
Because everywhere i've tried...I don't see an option to change it...
*EDIT: ok I've noticed when I plug in the mini-toslink cable to my MBP, i notice the output source changes from Internal Speakers to Digital Output*
*EDIT #2: Still no sound when I do that...also on the back of my TV, the digital output connection use to have a red light in it, and now it doesn't anymore?*

  • How to connect MacBook 2009 to Sony Bravia HDTV?

Hi everyone!  I received a Sony Bravia HDTV as a gift (lucky me!), and I want to connect my MacBook from 2009 to it so I can stream Netflix movies onto my laptop and watch them on the HDTV.  I have a Mini-DVI port (video out) on the MacBook, and HDMI on the TV.  A couple of questions:
    -  What cable(s) do I need?
    -  Do I need a separate cable for audio?
    -  Has anyone tried to stream Netflix this way (directly from the laptop), and was it successful?
    Thanks so much!
    Denise

You'll need a Mini-DVI adapter and an HDMI cable from that to your TV. Here's some types of Mini-DVI adapter to HDMI on Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_9_8?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field- keywords=mini+dvi+to+hdmi+adapter&sprefix=mini+dvi
When you connect the MacBook using a Mini-DVI to HDMI adapter you will probably need to use external speakers or a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack to RCA sound plugs connected to a stereo system for audio if your TV doesn't have separate input plugs for audio with the HDMI plug. The Mini-DVI to HDMI doesn't carry audio and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with the HDMI. You'll have to contact Sony support to see if the Bravia has an audio plug that will work with one of the HDMI plugs.
