Connecting Monitor to iBook G4 - Resolution

Hello
I connected my Samsung SyncMaster 920n 19'' to my iBook G4 but i am not able to set it's native resolution which is 1280 x 1024
I read in iBook G4 User's Guide this: "Note: Your iBook G4 doesn't support external display resolutions above 1024x768"
But everything looks so huge on my monitor with this kind of resolution.. And i was wondering if there is anything that i could do to set it's native resolution.. any workarounds.. or hacks.. ?

no, there are no workarounds. you have to use it at supported resolution or get another monitor.

  • Connecting Samsung 913n monitor to ibook -screen resolution?

    Hi,
I've bought a new monitor - Samsung 913n - and want to connect it to my ibook. No joy so far!
I have the adaptor and there seems to be a link between them, as the monitor says I've lost the signal when I unplug the adaptor.
One possibility seems to be that there is not an option for the correct screen resolution when I go to the Display preferences. The monitor is 1280 x 1024, but I only have three options which are all smaller than this.
I have reinstalled my system software but no luck.
    Any help appreciated!

Hi, Nikki. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You are stuck with the screen resolution of the iBook. There is no way to increase it. Sorry.

  • Connected Monitor/Projector - Multiple Resolutions

Is it possible to have two different resolutions on a MacBook Pro and an external monitor? Right now, the MacBook always downgrades the resolution to match the video projector.

Hi otterit: In order to have independent resolutions, you need to set the external display to "extended desktop" mode. You can then set both monitors to their native resolutions.
    Enjoy

  • Cannot Connect to the iBooks Store

When I open the iBooks store in Mavericks I get "Cannot Connect to the iBooks Store". Also, in Safari anything it cannot connect to anything that uses HTTPS (secure/encrypted connection) such as Twitter. However I do not know if that persisted from Mountain Lion, as I use Firefox. It is solely with my computer, the other mac on Mavericks connects just fine. However, here's where it gets strange. My iPhone, which I have my keychain synced to, does not have a problem. Additionally, the iTunes Store on iTunes can connect to the books section. I've tried going through my certificates and resetting them to Use System Default, using First Aid, changing my MTU in Network Preferences to 1300, and fixing disk permissions, but none of that worked. I have no proxies and no DNS servers.
I'm getting this error in this console whenever I open iBooks: NSURLConnection/CFURLConnection HTTP load failed (kCFStreamErrorDomainSSL, -9813).

I have exactly the same issue as describet by "bengersfoo", i.e.
"I can find exactly the certificate that pavelfrompraha mentions, and it is set to "Always Trust".
But I cannot reem to reset it to System Defaults. When I choose that option it has always reverted to "Always Trust" whenever I check again."
It would be very helpful if someone could please explain how to make the "System Defaults" setting stick.

  • I have a new macbook pro and an LG w2361v monitor.  The max resolution the mac is allowing me to set is 1400x1050, why can't I get to the max resolution the monitor can accept (1900x1080)

I have a new macbook pro and an LG w2361v monitor.  The max resolution the mac is allowing me to set is 1400x1050, why can't I get to the max resolution the monitor can accept (1900x1080)?  I know that the monitor is able to accept this resolution but It can't seem to find it.  Is it something to do with the new thunderbolt port? or the fact that I'm utilizing the VGA adaptor?  I could go HDMI if that works better.

    Use DVI or HDMI.
VGA runs out of steam after a while.

  • How do I make a window full screen and keep my connected monitor separate to utilize with other programs?

I just got a MacBookPro and have an external monitor connected to it. I opened a window to full screen and the connected monitor went to a gray screen while the MBP monitor showed the program in full screen. How can I make them independant so this doesn't happen?

    Hello Azul37,
go to your Applications folder and ctrl-click iDVD, then choose "Show Package Contents" from the drop-down menu. Next navigate to the Resources folder, find the theme, duplicate and rename it, then open the copy with the above procedure (choose Full Frame 1 for this - the other one is a bit tricky)
Again navigate to the Resources folder and find a folder named "FullFrameTitle.pox". There are other folders inside - open them one by one until you find a TIFF file with a long name with loads of numbers and delete it. Now the grey bar for the title is gone.
Next launch iDVD and choose your (modified) theme. Import a movie. You'll see the grey bar appear as button under the text. Go to the Settings tab in the Customize pane, select the button options and choose "Text Only". Voilà
Note: I recommend you leave the grey bar for the buttons - it provides better on-screen visibility.
If you are interested in tweaking your iDVD themes I recommend reading here:

  • X240 VGA connection to TV shows wrong resolution

    Hello,
I recently migrated Win8.1 from X240 HDD to SSD, and replaced the stock HDD with the SSD. I managed to reset the system to the original Win8 factory settings, and updated through Windows update to Windows 8.1. I also used Intel Driver Utility 2.0 to update drivers. So far everything goes well, except for when I connect my X240 with VGA port to my TV. The resolution of my Sony Bravia TV is HD ready (720p), whereas my X240 display is Full HD. When I had my X240 running on HDD, connecting to my TV through VGA port went smooth out of the box. No resolution issues whatsoever, I got a screen-filling display.
I guess it must have something to do with drivers, but I'm not so driver-savvy. What driver would be involved in this (VGA port)?
    Thanks in advance!

Hi - Update for anyone that is interested. I've had a play around...
I went into System Preferences/Display and connected the TV.
The resolution still changed but I went to 'Arrangement' and deselected 'Mirror Displays' (10.5.7 to thank for that) My screen on the MacBook returned to its normal resolution but the TV was still not working.
I selected 'Display' and then 'Gather Windows' and on the TV's Display changed the resolution to 1600x1024 instead of the one 10.5.7 assigned.
Bingo! It's all back up and running!
Wish I didn't have to spend 20 mins on the phone to Apple though with no solution - that'll be added to my student phone bill! ARGH!

  • How to activate both connected monitor

In my application, i have to connect 2monitors with the CPU and have to activate both connected monitors(means both should show windows)
    PRASHANT SONI

    Bublina,
It depends. If he only wants to assign a VI to a particular monitor or enumerate the currently active monitors, the VI server properties and methods are indeed all that are needed.
I interpreted the request however as being able to enable and disable monitors at runtime of the application and that can only be done with the Windows API functions directly. To my knowledge there aren't even .Net methods to do that.

  • Imac 24" connecting to a ibook

    hey,
i was thinking of getting a imac 24". would the built-in airport let me share my internet connection to my ibook g3 if i plug my broadband into the imac?
    thanks,
    JC

You can use Mac OS X 10.3 with this feature, and the iBook will pick up the signal if the computers are within range and there aren't any nearby sources of interference.

  • Connecting & Using G3 iBook With MacBook Pro

I am planning to buy a MacBookPro shortly when I am in the States. Will I be able to connect to my iBook G3 on 10.3.9 (640mb) both to transfer files and to use the iBook as an external hard-drive (bootable)?
If so, do I need anything more than the connecting cable and maybe some software like SuperDuper?
Again, the question that is probably unanswerable -- can I buy a refurbished MacBook Pro or are they just recycled lemons? My wallet needs the price tag, my head doesn't need more problems.

You'll be able to connect your iBook although it will NOT be bootable. The Mac OS X version on Intel systems is different to that of the PowerPC systems.

  • Can't get my new monitor to display widescreen resolutions correctly.

Just bought a new 19" widescreen monitor with a maximum resolution of 1440x900. 1280x960 and other normal resolutions work fine, but they're distorted. But when I try to start X with 1440x900 resolution, the entire screen seems as if it's been moved to the right 2 inches and up half an inch. That is to say, there are black bars on the left and bottom, and the desktop area goes off the screen to the top and right.
I've been googling and searching forums all day but I haven't found any solution to this problem. Changing the monitor geometry in the menu can help, but it can't shift it enough to actually fix it.

try getting rid of all the other display subsections, i dont know why they are there.
also, you can try without a conf, the new x server doesnt need one.

  • Accessing MXI Connection Monitor Programmatically

The MXI-4 (PXI-8336) User Manual states that you can "programmatically retrieve data about the link, chassis, and modules you have installed."  I have two PXI-1042 chassis bridged together using PXI-8336 cards, and I would like be able to detect if the link is broken between the chassis.  I see the device "MXI-4 Connection Monitor "PXI13::9::1::INSTR" in MAX, but the only attribute I can see is "Bridge Retransmit Count" (another useful piece of info for error checking).  There doesn't seem to be any utility in NI-VISA to access this information--am I missing something, or maybe this info is kept in registers?
Bottom line, I would like to generate an error in my LabVIEW code if the link is lost between the chassis.  Obviously, if this happens, I would get other errors related to the instruments in the downstream chassis, but it would be useful to be able to detect if the fiber optic cable was broken or disconnected.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Marcus,
I have a PXI-8108 real-time embedded controller in "Chassis 1" with a PXI-8336 MXI-4 pair extending the PCI bus to "Chassis 2".  LabVIEW Real-Time 10.0 and NI-VISA 5.0 are installed on the controller.  I am running a real-time executable and using a laptop to display the remote front panel in a browser.
Unfortunately, I discovered today that if I lose the link between the chassis, the controller disconnects and my application stops.  Presumably this is due to the PCI bus taking issue with losing half of its devices...
So monitoring the link is a moot point.  However, "Bridge Retransmit Count" might still be useful to keep tabs on the health of the bridge or the connection itself.  I just don't see any way programmatically to access this info, even though I see it in MAX.
    Thanks

  • Will a cinema monitor override my MBP resolution?

I have an old 17" MacBook Pro with 1920x1200 res maximum.
I want a higher resolution so I can do crisper screen shots.
If I hook up my MBP to a cinema monitor (2560x1440 resolution) will that monitor override my MBP resolution?
I thought that you cannot override the resolution of a laptop.
I just went to the apple store and saw how much better a screen shot is on their monitors with higher res.  They told me I might be able to get a comparable quality by using a cinema monitor on my old MBP
    Does that make sense?
    Kate

-I will need to reset the desktop to appear on my laptop before I unplug and walk away with my laptop (since the toolbar wil not be accessible on the lap top if it is not mirrored)
When you disconnect the external display, the "extended desktop" becomes smaller. Anything left on the "other" display is moved so that it is on the remaining display.
No need to re-arrange anything manually.
You can move the MenuBar to either display.
You can place tools palettes on either display, or drag them back and forth.
You can drag windows so that half is on each display, and when you scroll, both halves are adjusted appropriately. "It just works."
You do not necessarily need a huge Apple display -- any modern Monitor-quality display will work. (A TV set is NOT a Monitor.)
You can ask them to demo this for you at the Apple Store -- that is what the Apple Store is all about -- take your computer and try it!

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
In the upper left corner of the window, you should see a list headed Keychains. If not, click the button in the lower left corner that looks like a triangle inside a square.
In the Keychains list, there should be items named System and System Roots. If not, select
              File ▹ Add Keychain
from the menu bar and add the following items:
    /Library/Keychains/System.keychain /System/Library/Keychains/SystemRootCertificates.keychain
Open the View menu in the menu bar. If one of the items in the menu is
              Show Expired Certificates
select it. Otherwise it will show
              Hide Expired Certificates
    which is what you want.
From the Category list in the lower left corner of the window, select Certificates. Look carefully at the list of certificates in the right side of the window. If any of them has a a blue-and-white plus sign or a red "X" in the icon, double-click it. An inspection window will open. Click the disclosure triangle labeled Trust to disclose the trust settings for the certificate. From the menu labeled
              Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
    select
              no value specified
Close the inspection window. You'll be prompted for your administrator password to update the settings.
Now open the same inspection window again, and select
When using this certificate: Use System Defaults
Save the change in the same way as before.
Revert all the certificates with non-default trust settings. Never again change any of those settings.

When you are having problems with a site - consider weather between you and it and amount of traffic (time of day).
Bad weather can cause problems with a connection as it travels on the information highway - hazard a guess all traffic that went through Buffalo is being routed elsewhere.
Bad weather can slow down handshake etc to the point of requiring too many resends - so Ibook is timing you out.
