Connecting MSSQL Database source system from BW 3.5/Oracle 9.2.0.6/AIX 5.3

Hi,
We want to extract data from MSSQL database source system into BW 3.5/Oracle 9.2.0.6 system in AIX environment. Apart from intsalling NT app server,UDC, XI,flat file options, can you please suggest any other methods to extract data from SQL database into  BW/AIX system?. Thanks in advance.
Thanks.
Raj.

Raj,
Did you find any solution for this problem. We are having exactly the same issue and are trying to do it with SAP DBConnect.
We are able to create a Source System for MSSQL server but it does not connect since the "Database Shared Library" is not installed on our BW 3.5 AIX box.
From what we gather there is NO DSL for MSSQL for AIX. I cannot believe we cannot connect to MSSQL directly since we have too many MSSQL databases all around the company.

Atul

  • How to design EDW for source systems from different Time-Zones

How to design EDW for source systems from different Time-Zones?
Suppose IT landscape has a global BW in New York, and source systems in americas, europe and asia, then how the time-zones effect on time related things like delta selections on date or timestamp etc.

As you said BW is global in NY, your source system must be global too. People from various locations can connect to same source system and thus timestamps for delta is always maintained as 1 single time. We have same scenario in our project. Our R/3 system is used by users in US and Europe. So we run deltas twice in day to make sure we got deltas from both locations.
If scenarios was such that all locations connect to separate R/3 system, then obviously you have multiple queues. That is unique delta queue for each source system so deltas will be pulled as per data in respective queues.

  • BW: Connect to new source system via special transport

    Hello everyone!
I have a BW system connected to an R/3 source system. I have made a copy of the source system. Now I want all my models to be connected to both source systems. I heard that this can be achieved via special transport (i.e. place all source system dependant objects into a special transport request to be imported back into my BW system, but with the new source system assignment). Does anyone have any documentation on how to do this?
    Best Regards and Merry Xmas!
    Luís Andrade.

    Hi Luis,
    There are two parts,
    1) If you want to transport all your objects from current R/3 system to newly created r/3 system then you can create a TR and use it in SCC4 transaction during client copy. In the same fashion you can use RSA1---> transport connection and use the TR for system copy. After that once you release this TR all the objects will move from one system to another.
    2) But if you have already moved all the objects in source system but now you want them to replicate in BI then go to SAP BI system select your source system and then from the context menu choose replicate datsources option, it will fetch everything from respective source system in BI.

  • How to Delete a Source System from BW System

    Dear All,
I have a request to delete a UDC based source system from a BW system. Can you please let me know the steps to be followed to delete a UDC source system.
It would be helpful if you provide steps to delete a SAP Source system also from a BW system.
If there are any such documents for both the cases, please provide me the link.
    Thanks to all.

  • Connecting sql server database as source system into BW in unix/oracle

    Hi
We have a requirement to extract the data from MS SQL server database as a source system into the BW3.0B instance, which is running under HP-UX/oracle.
We have been told that Microsoft does not supply a SQL Server driver for UNIX.
So in this case, we need to have a option to complete it.
Please let me know if some one has any similar type configuration existing.
    VJ

In general, BI application servers can only be supported for DB Connect on operating system versions where a SAP Database Shared Library (DBSL) has been released for the BI database and the source database.
refer: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/58/54f9c1562d104c9465dabd816f3f24/frameset.htm for DB Connect supported DB's.

  • Connecting to R/3 source system from BI in ECC6.0

    Hi all,
We have installed ECC6.0 system recently with two clients say 500 for R/3 and 600 for BI7.0.
we would like to know how to establish connection between these two clients?from BI7.0 >RSA1>Source Systems-->we do not have any source system assigned here(i.e. SAP folder has nothing under it).
Does anyone has documents on this?please share with me.
    Regards,
    Murali.

    Hi Murali,
Following are the stpes to be performed
1)Before any developments create a user ALEREMOTE through transaction code SU01. This user name is to be created in both the BI system and the R/3 system
Enter the requisite details for the same like address, Logon date, defaults, parameters, roles, profiles, groups, personalization and license data. Remember to assign the SAP_ALL and R_RS_ALL in the profiles
You can create the system-generated password by clicking the wizard button. You can also choose the password of your choice. It’s important to note that keep the password same for the user ALEREMOTE common for both the BI and the R/3 system.
    2) In the same way create another user BWREMO
    3) Define the logical system in BI
Click on SAP reference IMG in SPRO Transaction
For BI 7.0 the procedure is different. It is as follows. Click on SAP Netweaver Business intelligence Links to other source system General connection settings, then click on define logical systems.
For the earlier version BW 3.5 and earlier follow the following steps. Then drop down the BW customizing implementation guide. After that Business Information Warehouse Link to other systems  General connection settings then click on Define logical systems
Click on new entries and enter the logical system name and description
    Press the New entries button
Enter the client, city, logical system name, currency, and client role. Select the radio button automatic recording of changes and the rest will remain the same. After that click on save and then back and then save again.
    4) Define logical system in SAP R/3 in similar way
5)Go to R/3 connection in BW 3.5 or go to ABAP connection in BI 7.0. Then click create.
6)Now create two RFC destinations for BI, one for direct remote login and the other through the Dialog screen.
    7Creating RFC destination for BIW.
    a.     Create a RFC destination NB1CLNT500 with the name for logical systems. The other destination would This destination would be used for BW  BW interaction. The same would be for theNB1CLNT500_DIALOG.Now click on connection test and there should not be any error. Now check by clicking the Remote Login button and this will take you to the R/3 system.
    8.     Creating RFC destination for Dialog
    a.     Create a RFC destination with the name of and NB1CLNT500_DIALOG in BIW with the name for logical systems. This destination would be used for BW  SAP interaction.
    9.     The process is finished now.
    10.     Now your connectivity is successfully established with the R/3 system.
Please assign points if this helps
    Thank you,
    Regards,

  • Creating MSSQL as Source System

    Hi All,
I can't find any notes how to create MS SQL Server as source system in BW. Could anyone write me how to fill these fields?:
    - Logical System Name
    - Source System Name
    - Conn. info
I will be grateful for any example of correct configuration of MSSQL InfoSource.
    Regards,
    Maciek

    Hi Maciej,
Not much idea..I obtained the below info from SAP Help..
+The database library is made available in the SAP Service Marketplace in the SAR archives LIB_DBSL.SAR, in the patch directories, which are independent of database manufacturer.
You can access the required directory via the Software Center of the SAP Service Marketplace in the Internet, via the following address: http://service.sap.com/swcenter-main ® SAP Web AS ® Relevant SAP Web AS Release ® Binary Patches ® Relevant SAP Kernel Release ® BW Application Server Operating System ® Source-Database Management System® LIB_DBSL.SAR.
Load the file into the directory indicated by the environment variable DIR_LIBRARY.
The file LIB_DBSL.SAR forms a complete SAP kernel patch together with the database-independent DW.SAR archive. (SAP Note 19466 - Downloading SAP Kernel Patches describes how kernel patches are imported).
Next, unpack the SAR archive with the SAPCAR tool. Before doing so, refer to note 212876- The New Archiving Tool SAPCAR
We recommend you also download the latest DBSL from the SAP Service Marketplace for SAP DB databases.+

    hi,
I have just noticed that on my clients system I work now source system SAP ERP is connected as source system type SAP Business Information Warehouse.
Is it ok to do it like that? Should not it be connected as SAP System from release 3.0E (Automaitc Creation)?
or maybe it does not matter?

  • Connecting R/3 Source system to BW

    Hello,
I need to connect a BW dev system to R/3 Dev system (ECC 5.0)
I would appreciate if anybody could give me the detailed steps involved...
are there any plug ins which have to downloaded ??

    Kamal,
RSA1 --> Source Systems --> Right click on the top of the tree and select new source system
Give the R/3 server along with a suer ID and password in the R/3 system. Lower portion has the password of ALEREMOTE in the BW system.
Follow the instructions from there on. Select activate and replicate.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/80/1a618ae07211d2acb80000e829fbfe/frameset.htm
With ECC 5.0, you shouldn't need any plug-in.

  • Change source system from A to B

    Hello,
We have a lot of infosources which have a connection to datasources from source system A. Some of that infosources contain formulas. Now we have to change to source system B with the same datasources and even  the same content. What´s the best way to change without losing or filling in again the formulas and is there a way to do it not seperately for each infosource but for all infosources together, so simultaneously?
    Kind regards,
    Jos

    Hello Jos!
Have a look at this document:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/uuid/0e38e10f-0401-0010-2ea1-f6fad5969c47
It contains recommended scenarios for client copies and such. I think it will be useful to you.

  • Connection of 1 source system to 2 Target system

    HI ,
We are in the midst of upgrading the hardware for our BW box.
At present old box is as follow:
    1)BWQ connected to source QAS
    2)BWP connected to source PRD
The new box is called FWP. We are testing on the new FWP by establishing connection of FWP with source system QAS.
This mean, source system QAS is connected to 2 boxes at the same time.
    old BWQ-QAS
    new FWP-QAS
I would like to know if we perform data load in new FWP, what will the impact be. Will that impact the delta queue in source system QAS? If i trigger load in FWP, does that mean we will loose the delta whn data is triggered in BWQ?
    Regards,
    Maili

    Hi,
Since itu2019s a new box this will not impact to old box, but we need to develop everything from start in new box or you can copy from the Old.
We also have something like it.
Check the below link which will help you.

  • Disconnet a Source system from RSA1

    Hi!
I changed all the neccessary BW objects from one SAP ECC system to another one in my SAP BW system via tcode BDLS (e.g. EC1CLNT500 --> EC2CLNT500).
Now I would like to delete the old entry of EC1CLNT500 in RSA1 --> source systems.
When I do so I get the following error:
Source system cannot be deleted in Content system
    Message no. RSAR670
    Diagnosis
If a source system is deleted in the Content system, the shadow tables
for all source system-dependent objects for this source system release are also deleted. You can configure a user as a non-Content user by using a SET-GET parameter. You can then use this user to delete the system, and then the above-named objects are not changed duringdeletion.
    System Response
    The function is completed.
    Procedure
Logon as user ACTIVATE, and repeat your actions.
Can some one tell me how to proceed here?
    regards
    Jürgen

    Hi!
The table RSBASIDOC does not have the entry for new SAP BW system that I would like to disconnect.
Only the value of the old SAP BW system is there...
    How to proceed?
    Thank you!

  • How to change the Source system from ONE DataSource?

    Hi,
I'm trying to change a DataSource's source system (active with dtp and transfer rules), but it's not possible to  do it in change mode because the field 'Source Sytem' is not enabled. I know I can use the BDLS transaction but I understand that this is for change all Datasources and I only want to change one of all.
    Thanks for your help

    Hi Marcel,
As I understand apart from file and web services all other data sources are replicated from underlying source system. BDLS transaction is used to change the source system but in case of system copy activity and it is necessary because the data sources points to old source system.
In your case as I understand you will have to replicate the current data source directly from underlying source system and then build the rest of the flow. May I know how you have got this single data source for which the source system is different?
