Connecting my BASS using Griffin Guitar Cable

I just bought a Griffin Guitar Cable that works great for my Guitar when playing on Garageband, however I thought that it would work for Basses as well. I can't seem to get levels when plugging in my bass. Does anyone know for sure that Bass Guitars aren't compatible with the Griffin Guitar Cable?

it's not exactly a compatibility issue with the cable, it's just a cable, and that's where the issue is:

does the guitar have active pickups?

  • GB and Griffin Guitar Cable

Please correct me if I'm wrong but after reading these forums I've come to the conclusion that the Griffin Guitar cable is falsely advertised. It is NOT the only thing you need to connect your guitar to GB. I've tried it and there is no signal in the sys prefs --> audio --> input dialog.
What's the consensus on getting it connected? I've read about preamps, pedals, amps, iMics, etc. It would be nice to find something for less than $100 but without degrading the sound.
    TIA for your help.
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I've used the various cables & adapters. They all appear to work, but you won't really get the best sound until you buy an audio interface which amplifies the signal from the guitar. The signal the guitar generates is somewhat quiet and when you boost it inside the computer, you add a lot of noise which effects the quality of the amp models. To get that real 'amp' feel, you need a bit of gear to prime the output of your guitar as it goes into the computer.
I recommend the Presonus Inspire 1394. This firewire audio I/O device was designed specifically for what you are doing. It sounds great and its the least expensive FW i/o you can buy at about $199.

I have just purchased the Griffin Garageband Guitar Cable and have it working with my electric guitar BUT I can hear in the background some foreign radio stations . This is particularly noticeable when using the guitar effects . Any solutions to this ?

that kind of sounds like the shield in the cable might be broken. it might be a good idea to return it for a replacement

  • Satellite L300-1AQ - Connection to TV using 3RCA Component cable

Just got the above cable from EBAY - it has the 15 pin 'D' connector which fits the computer external monitor socket and on the other end 2 'phono' type plugs (red, green and blue).
Problem is I can't get it to work. My medion 32" LCD has the coloured inputs and I have tried all the external input options but no luck. The cable supplier says the laptop should support "component video out" but nowhere can I find any reference to this in my laptop literature.
    Help please!
All that happens when I connect the laptop to TV is the laptop display changes resolution the the TV says "Not Support". Yes I tried all the F5 output options too.

Yes it has - 3 colour phono type sockets (red green and blue). This was used by my son's xbox. I tried the monitor input (15 pin 'D' connector) this works but whatever setting and resolution I try the picture is always stretched to fit the wide screen and it looks strange. I am unable to find any setting on the tv or laptop that fixes this

  • GarageBand w/ Griffin Imic+guitar cable

Ok Hi all, first post but I've been skimming the forums for a few weeks. I just bought a 15" powerbook with the works. I'm trying to mess around with garageband so I picked up the griffin guitar cable and imic (re: college kid on a budget) and have everything setup and installed correctly.
I'm able to record myself playing, but the volume input isn't very high. If I'm picking/strumming, its tolerable, but not adequate. If I play fingerstyle, you can BARELY hear it. I'm not sure where my problem lay.
I have everything turned up to max, as far as I can tell. Is there any software that I can use to adjust my input volume further? All the software that appears to have come with Imic is junky and not what I need, unless I'm overlooking something.
    Thanks in advance,
    J

Pardon me for stepping in but I have another problem with a similar setup, I sure would appreciate your thoughts on this. I have a 1GB Mac Mini hooked up to a Griffin iMic and the Griffin Guitar cable in order to connect to my electric guitar. I am able to record into Garageband, however, there is at least a half second delay between the time I pick a cord and it comes out of my speakers (monitor enabled). So, basically, it is impossible to play with this lag... I have the latest version of Garageband and all the updates to Tiger, what to do? Is it the iMic? Is it the Mac Mini? Is it a "magical" setting in Garageband? Is this even possible or am I facing a lost cause, really do I have to buy an iMac before the monitor lag goes away??? Sure would appreciate some advice, I'm sure I'm not the first one to experience this.

  • Using an ethernet cable to connect Time Cap to iMac?

    Hello,
This is a pretty basic question, but I'm not really sure what the correct answer is.
I use a Time Capsule as my WiFi unit in my house (I have a cable internet connection---cable comes out of the wall and goes into a cable modem, and then from there, an ethernet cable goes from the cable modem into my Time Capsule).
I was told by an Apple expert that I can probably get a faster internet connection if I use an ethernet cable to connect my iMac to my Time Capsule (as opposed to using it via WiFi, as I am currently doing). I have two questions regarding this:
    1) Is it true that my speed will increase?
    2) How do I connect the two together? Do I just use a spare ethernet cable and plug that into the rear of my Time Capsule, and then the other end into my iMac?
I want to keep the WiFi part working, because I have other Apple devices that use WiFi (iPhone, iPad, AppleTV).
Thank you for any information and/or suggestions.

The expert is only providing half of the story. He forgot to tell you that your Internet connection speed is determined by the plan that you have with your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
This is the bottleneck on your (and my) network since your wireless connection speed capability is already much higher than your ISP can ever hope to deliver.
For example, let's say that your plan with your provider supplies 20 Mbps.  Your wireless network will typically handle much higher speeds...anywhere from 100-250+ Mbps.
Yes, an Ethernet connection has yet higher speed potential than a wireless connection, but if your wireless connection speed potential is already much faster than your Internet connection can deliver, having even higher speed potential with an Ethernet connection will do nothing for your performance.
In other words, your Time Capsule (or any other router) cannot take the signal that your Internet Provider supplies and make it go faster, whether it is using wireless or Ethernet connections.
Your Internet connection speed will only be as fast as your plan allows. If you need a faster Internet connection, you will need to speak to your ISP about a faster plan.
    2) How do I connect the two together? Do I just use a spare ethernet cable and plug that into the rear of my Time Capsule, and then the other end into my iMac?
Yes, that is correct. Be sure to turn off the wireless on your iMac as well since you no longer need that connection.

  • Can't connect to internet using Nokia Suite

Hello. I have a Nokia Asha 311. I could connect to internet using my USB cable and Nokia Suite without trouble in another computer similar to the one I'm using now. The difference is that that computer had windows 7 and this one has Windows xp (probably there are more differences, but this is the most noticeable). I have Nokia Suite version 3.8.48, it recognizes my phone, but everytime I tried to connect to the internet using the phone as modem, it says, inmediately (it isn't even trying to connect) "Failed to establish a network connection"
What can I do? If I was able to use my Nokia Asha 311 in the other computer as a modem, I'm sure I can use here too for that. But there is something preventing it from working well. What can it be? I have already read the other posts about similar issues but I haven't found any solution in them.

    Hi overo,
    Welcome to the forum!
Is the OS of your Windows XP PC updated? It's advisable to keep both PC and phone's software up-to-date. Try also to repair Nokia Suite to isolate the issue. Just click the PC's start button, and then go to All Programs > Control Panel > Installed applications. Select Nokia Suite, and then choose Uninstall / Change > Repair. After this step, try to share our phone's connection to your PC and see if it'll work. Make sure that Nokia Suite mode is selected in your Asha 311 when sharing the internet connection to your PC via Nokia Suite.
Let us know how it will go.

  • Forcing OSx to connect 2 Macs using FW or Ethernet rather than via Airport

Moving larger files via an airport network obviously is rather slow. The solution appears to connect via Firewire or Ethernet when sending larger collections of files.
Setup: Macs are connected via an airport network. All Macs have been assigned static IP addresses (10.0.1.201, ...)
Problem: When connecting two Macs via Firewire or Ethernet, the Macs still appear to prefer a connection via the Airport network rather then Firewire or Ethernet. In order to get around this problem, I usually just turn off the Airport network and thereby force OSx to take the connection via Firewire or ethernet.
Question: How can I force OSx to connect both Macs via Firewire or Ethernet without disconnecting from the Airport network?
Failed attempts: I tried to assign different IPs to the Macs in Network > Integrated Firewire, i.e. Mac1's IP in the Airport network is 10.0.1.201. In integrated Firewire, I assigned 10.0.1.212 to Mac1 and tried to connect to it from Mac2 using that IP and which is connected to Mac1 using a Firewire cable. Didn't work
Does anyone have any experience in this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Hello,
You can reorder network ports in Network Preferences.
Go to "Show > Network Port Configurations" then drag & drop ports so that ethernet and firewire are first in the list.
Now the default route should be via the first connected device.
    Why reward points ?

  • OVI Suite will not connect my N8 using USB

    Hello
For some very odd reason the only way I can connect to OVI Suite is by Bluetooth.
When I plug the USB cable in and starts OVI Suite nothing happens.
    Nothing happens vice versa either.
I'm using Suite version 3.0.0.290 on Windows XP. Nothing is wrong with my USB connections in general.
It is a problem since Bluetooth isn't ideal for transporting huge amounts of data.
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Success!!
Nokia Care came through for me!
    Pretty complex procedure though.
    Try this:
    1. Disconnect your phone from your computer.
    2. Go to Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel.
    3. Remove Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver
        Remove Nokia Ovi Suite
        Remove PC Connectivity Solution
    4. Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner from
    http://www.nokia.dk/produktsupport/download-software/pc-suite/how-to/nokia-pc-suite-cleaner
    5. Reboot
    6. Download latest version of OVI Suite from
    http://www.nokia.dk/produktsupport/download-software/nokia-ovi-suite/compatibility-and-download
    7. Turn off you AntiVirus/Spyware and Firewall(Including Windows Firewall is enabled) software before you start the install of OVI Suite- very important!!
    8. Reboot after installation of OVi Suite
    9. Do not start OVI Suite yet after reboot!
    10. Make sure your AV Software/firewall is not turned on.
    11. Connect your phone using your USB cable.
    12. The drivers should install without any problems. Takes a minute or so.
    13. Start OVI Suite after Windows reports that the installation was succesful.
    Everything should work now

  • Griffin GarageBand Guitar Cable for connection

Can I use the Griffin GarageBand Guitar cable to connect my Yamaha mixer to my G5 tower. It's a 1/4" connector to a 1/8" mini-jack.
    Thanks for your help!

You'll need to tell us more about your setup.
It could be any number of things, like what effects are you using?
Or did you know that where your guitar is placed in relation to other electronics can create a magnetic field that is picked up by the guitars pickups? Try moving your guitar around by facing it in other directions and see if that helps.
Without more info though, that's all I can suggest.
    Good luck.

Not able to connect N70 to pc(xp) using ca-53 cable
hi i am having this trouble from a year... i am unable to connect my phone n70 using cable to my pc,.,. even after installing all drivers n pc suite n havin it reinstalled also n again doin d same process.. its not getting detected at all.. please help me out... pleaseeee..been tryin 4m a year..nevr checkd des forumss.. hopin som bdy ll help ,me out.. !!!. !!!!

The DKU-2 cable is no longer supported and so cannot be guaranteed to be compatible with current PC Suites, you should be using either your current CA-53 or the CA-70.
Have you had the chance to connect any other phone with the PC using this cable? This would test if thr cable itself might be faulty.
Otherwise remove PC Suite, PC Connectivitiy Solution and Connectivity Cable Drivers from control panel, run the PC Suite Cleaner program that you can get from the PC Suite support pages on the web site, then reinstall everything.

  • I would like to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable and pass thru dolby digital. I do not have optical inputs on my receiver.

I want to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable. This should allow me to pass thru high definition video and simultaneously decode Dolby Digital material with an HDMI connection from my receiver to my TV without the use of an optical cable (my receiver does not have an optical input). I am unable to decode 5.1 material and don't understand why this is not working. In the audio setting I have Dolby Digital output turned on.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you sure the content you are playing has Dolby Digital.

Your answer is likely in Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Apple Support If you are familiar with this document, please re-read it and I suspect you may find something you either missed or are doing incorrectly.

  • I have an older HDTV with only 1 HDMI connection. I use a Bose 3.2.1. GS Series II system and have a HDTV cable box. Bose system has no HDMI. How can I connect an Apple TV to this system?

I have an older flat panel HDTV with only 1 HDMI connection which is being used through my cable box for TV reception.  I also use a Bose 3.2.1. GS Series II home theatre system.  It has no HDMI inputs. Can I use an Apple TV with my present system?  I'd prefer not hearing, "buy a new flat panel."
    Cliff

Have you tried adjusting the "Audio Out" and the "Dolby Digital" settings in settings > audio and video? It may be worth trying several combinations of these settings, although typically it is the "Dolby Digital" setting that causes most problems for users.

  • I can't get a picture on my toshiba tv when I connect it to my Mac Book Pro using an HMDI cable

In 2010, we bought a MacBook Pro 7.1.  We also bought an HDMI cable that connects directly to the MBP’s mini display port and to the HDMI port in the TV.  The TV is a Toshiba. We made the connections and selected the correct ports and got nothing on the TV, except a “no signal” message. The Display window on the MBP recognized the Toshiba TV. We tried the same hookup with a different TV (Phillips) and we got video (no sound) on the TV with the same mini display port to HDMI cable. We borrowed a mini display port to VGA adapter with a VGA cable. The adapter also had a separate audio cable that connected to the TV’s audio port. That worked.  We got both video and audio on the Toshiba (but the video was not HD). We connected my Kindle Fire HD to the Toshiba using an HDMI cable, and that worked.  We got both video and audio on the Toshiba. So, we proved: - the mini display port works  - I can get video from it to the Toshiba with a VGA adapter - the mini display port to HDMI cable works – I got video through it from the MBP to the Phillips - the HDMI port on the Toshiba works – I got video / sound from the Kindle and its HDMI cable What do I do to get video from the MBP to the Toshiba using the HDMI cable I have?

Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->
Read the tv user manual.  I have a Toshiba which has detailed instructions for tv to comp hookup.  If necessary call Toshiba.  Especially, if you are still under warranty w/them.
