  • Problem connecting to Buffalo Linkstation Pro

Hi all, im still looking for a solution to this problem...
I have 2 macs that use airport express for network / internet etc. The Airport express is connected to my router to get to the internet connection. I also have a PC that is wired to the router. All works great, until I got a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Network HardDrive. I have set up the buffalo by plugging it in to the router and config it on the same IP range and its set up for mac and PC, it can be seen and used via my PC both by using the ip address through explorer to see the config page and as an extra hard drive, but the macs just cant see it.
The only thing I do know is that the buffalo does show up on the macs if I turn off airport and hardwire the mac to the router.
Any ideas anyone, i dont really want to hardwire my macs again just to use this hard drive.
    Thanks
    Lee

Not sure why its working now, just one of those great technical things. All I have done is unplugged and moved the drive, used a longer CAT5 cable, and plugged it in to a different port on the router.... and now I can see it on the mac!!! how does that happen.

  • Connecting a Buffalo Linkstation Live to an AE network

I just bought a Buffalo Linkstation Live HS500GL on closeout at Circuit city. I have it hooked up to my AE via ethernet, but I can't "see" it on the network. The supplied software, the NAS Navigator seems to find it, and shows the IP address, and all the information, but I can't connect to it through a browser (Safari or Firefox) or any other way.
The instructions that came with it said I would have a NAS Navigator icon on my desktop as well as a new "share" icon on my desktop. There is no share icon showing up.
I have also tried connecting to server in the Finder "Go" menu, but this doesn't work either.
    Any advice out there?

Just bumping up to see if anyone has any ideas.

  • Buffalo Linkstation not connecting to SLM2024

I have recently installed an SLM2024 Gigabit switch. We have a mixture of devices on the switch, desktops, servers, printers, wireless access points and all are working ok. We also have four Buffalo Linkstations with Gigabit Ethernet. Each linkstation has a DHCP reservation but when connected to the SLM2024 the ip address is not issued and the linkstation is not accessible as the default ip address is used by the devices. When the linkstations are connected to a Netgear switch they work as expected. The SLM2024 was purchased to replace the Netgear as it only has 2 gigabit ports.
I have not made any changes to the SLM2024 configuration. Any ideas?

    Hi Richard,
    The Buffalo manual suggests for the linkstation;
If the LINK/ACT LED on the front of LinkStation is lit, your LinkStation is connected properly.
If the LINK/ACT LED is not lit, make sure that:
    •  Both LinkStation and the switch or PC are powered on.
    •  The Ethernet Cable is securely fastened to both devices.
    •  The Ethernet Cable is not damaged; verify this by trying another Ethernet Cable.
    If the link light is not properly lit, Buffalo suggest the following, contact;
    Web:   www.buffalotech.com
    E-mail:   [email protected]
Telephone: (866)-752-6210 (USA & Canada only
But the manual leaves alot of troubleshooting out,  is the link/act light flashing who knows, port statistics on the switch port will tell you if packets are TX and RX out the switch port to the linkstation.
         1.    It would be interesting to see a screen captures of linkstation's SLM switch port statistics.
(This will tell me if the switch port is receiving and sending traffic in and out of the switch port)
          2.  It would be interesting to see a screen capture of the linkststation's  SLM  port status.
(This will tell me if the linkstation has negotiated link speed and duplex correctly)
There is a process mentioned at the  buffalo support page that illustrates how to directly connect a PC to the linkstation.  But I guess if your PC can communicate using the Buffalo easysetup utility, you can  manually configure the IP and Ethernet settings onto the unit.
Sounds like setting up  a port mirror would be useful to see the DHCP and ethernet interaction to the Linkstation.
So far there are two things to reply with, port status and port statistics.
           3.  Why not use the SLM to port mirror the linkstation port and capture the DHCP process via a free  tool called wireshark.
           4.  Please reply with a short wireshark capture ?
    Good luck and seasons greetings,
    regards Dave

  • Anyone help setup TC with Buffalo Linkstation NAS

I have a TIme Capsule working great with my iMac. I also have a Buffalo Linkstation Live 1Tb NAS.
There is a smartphone app that allows you to share a folder from your NAS over WiFi and 3G. I want to do this so I can share my music over my 3G when out and about, and play it (I am in UK and have unlimited 3G internet).
However in the easywebaccess setting it says I havent got UPnP. I'm unsure how to enale/set this in my TC. I goto advanced setting on my NAS and says I need to setup oorts etc, I dont know how to do this on a TC.
When trying advanced setup I get this error "UPnP Gateway not found and/or doesn't support port forwarding, use manual setup."
    Anyone help please?
    cheers

Let me suggest you swap your system or your thinking..
If you use a modem router to which the TC is connected tell me more.. The TC can be bridged and the other device become the router.. this makes things easier as you can then track ports that upnp opens.. and see what you need to do.
I am unsure where the app is loaded.. is it in the buffalo or the phone??
Mostly iphone is rigged to itunes, welded or melded would be better as it is almost impossible to escape itunes.. so when you coyly refer to smartphone.. I presume you are not actually talking about iphone but the that horrible company that had the gall to encroach on Apple's space.
To get music to work, it must use a standard method eg http, or ftp etc.. all you need to do is to tell me what method it uses if you don't have the actual ports it uses.
Apple buiild everything to operate in their own paid for realm of itunes.. icloud etc. When you try to bypass that.. you need to get the apple router out of the way.
(It might also be much easier to use an SD-Card or some other memory type if you can plug those in).

  • Buffalo Linkstation works with all PC's but not iMac - With Airport Extreme

Hi. I hope someone can help. Been at this for days, even AppleCare can't help....
We have a Buffalo linkstation hooked to a new Airport Extreme.
All PCs can see it and view documents, iTunes, etc. My iMac cannot. Actually, I think it sees it but it's a mere file on my desktop. When I click on it, it pulls up a Finder type window, but this Buffalo icon (like network icon) can't be mounted in my normal finder main section. I can't figure out how to do that.
When I open Finder, I don't see the buffalo at all but have to go thru many libraries to find it. When I click on it ("connect") to it, It says "Select the SMB/CIFS shared volume you want to connect to: I click on the name, but it says "the alias blablabla could not be opened because the original item cannot be found. It gives the option to fix alias so I hit that and it puts me in my "documents" area and won't let me go anywhere else.
OMG... Can someone tell me how to get this thing working? I can see the files but they are so buried. I'd like to take this Buffalo which seems to be on my desktop and mount it? to the right area of my Finder.
All I want to do is see the darned iTunes on the buffalo wirelessly via airport extreme. LOL All other computers (PC's) did this instantly. Help?

Yes, I can see everything I need to see (external HD)....
I even dragged the darned thing into the finder...
Now my upper left box of the finder says:
    Network
Share (that's my external buffalo HD)
    Windox XP
    iMac
The problem with the above is that "Share" is not mounted. It has the eject button next to it. I think (maybe) I could get this functioning if I could mount this darned thing but I can't for the life of me get it to do that. Any ideas?
EDIT: I'm not sure how to use directory access utility. Do I need to?

  • Buffalo Linkstation not accessible in Mavericks

    Hello All,
I have recently purchased a Buffalo Linkstation Pro Duo model no. LS-WX4.0TL/R1 for an IT client of mine that needs to backup both PC and Mac computers.
When I go to map to the NAS via AFP I receive an error that the particular location is not available, or cannot be accessed.
This is peculiar because I have used this particular NAS in other Mac environments running Lion with no issues.
Has Apple restructured AFP in Mavericks?
Also, I have logged into the NAS user interface and checked for Firmware updates. The NAS reports that it is running the latest firmware.
I have posted this same question on the Buffalo support forums. They said to update firmware, and then to contact Apple Support if there are further issues.
Does anyone have any insight to this issue? Be it regarding AFP in Mavericks, or firmware for the NAS?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks so much!

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem with a linkstation quad I purchased yesterday - works fine over SMB but cannot access via AFP.
Running mountain lion and mavericks and same problem in both, have already upgraded to latest firmware.

  • Buffalo Linkstation is not recognized when plugged directly into mac

I recently received a Buffalo Linkstation and tried setting it up, when i got it all up and running, the lights come on, but it won't connect to my mac, it's connected via ethernet cable
I do not have it plugged into a router and don't want to go get one, I have two wireless routers, but when i first used one for both the internet and the linkstation, it was too slow, and when i tried using one for the internet and one for the linkstation, they interfere with each other and defeat the purpose.
I just want it to go from the hard drive to the mac, then when i get it all set up, i'll add a printer
I know this defeats the purpose of the networking capability and that i should just go get an external hard drive, but I did have one and it stopped working, so i sent it in and got this.
Any help whatsoever would be appreciated

I've never seen one of these puppies but your question
was intriguing so I looked at Bufflalo Technology's web
site. They claim to have a built-in ftp server, and that
sounds like how you're gonna connect. The first thing to
do is figure out the linkstation's ip address. Hopefully the
default will be listed in the manual, or maybe you set it
in the setup process. Otherwise, you've got to search
your network for port 21. If it gets its ip address via DHCP,
you need a DHCP server in the mix. I bet your wireless
router has one, and you could use it to get you going.
Once you have the ip address, you can mount the device
in the Finder using Command-K and entering
    ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip address.
    Good luck!

  • Buffalo LinkStation Live and NasNavigator 2 problems with Mac

I am using a Buffalo LinkStation Live (LS-CH1.0TL) with my MacBook. With the Firewell turned off on my Mac it works really well. Unfortunately, with the Firewall on, a perpetual dialogue box appears asking to give permission to allow incoming connections from NasNavigator 2. Whether you click Allow or Deny, the message appears again after about 10 seconds. This process continues indefinitely. It works fine with Windows 7 (either run via Mac or on my previous PC). I have updated all software/firmware and reformatted and restored factory settings on the LinkStation.
Buffalo are stating that this is an Apple issue so can anyone help or is this going to be technical-support-tennis where each are blaming the other?! Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Somewhere at either Macworld or here I learned that DVDSP 2, DVDSP 3 and now DVDSP 4 "internally" are major re-writes.
Support for HD among a few other items along with QT 7 which comes with Tiger means sincerely that one set of applications/OS is not going to be stable.
Personally I think of all the issues possible its DVDSP vs QT.
Unless you move to DVDSP v4 the alternative is to wipe the disk and go back to Jaguar (10.2) or perhaps Panther but avoid upgrading QT beyond 6. I advocate wiping the disk because I'n not sure an archive and install to down shift to an earlier version of the OS is possible. If it is I'd still worry about mis-matched files in all sorts of locations.

  • Time Machine - Not Seeing My Buffalo LinkStation Hard Drive

Currently have a Buffalo LinkStation 2TB hard drive on my home network. The Buffalo is connected to my router (Netgear WGR614v10). It is not physically connected to my iMac, but I do have a LinkStation icon on my desktop in order to add files to.
When trying to start Time Machine, I click "Choose Backup Disk" but the only drive listed is my Maxtor 750GB that I had when I purchased my iMac a couple of years ago. The Maxtor was purchased when I first bought the iMac because I wanted to use Time Machine (my iMac has a 750GB internal hard drive).
Because the Maxtor 750GB is the only backup drive listed, I click "Set Up Time Capsule" but the "AirPort Utility" says it was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. The only thing I can do at this point is "Rescan" which only proves the same result. There is a "Manual Setup" button at the bottom but it is greyed out and I can't select it.
How do I configure the Buffalo LinkStation so Time Machine will view it as an available backup drive?
Also, how would I do this if I added an additional hard drive (or two or three more)?
I have a feeling this is probably obvious and I'm just missing it.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Time Machine does not work well, if at all, with some NAS devices. See #2 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

  • TimeMachine backing up to Buffalo LinkStation

    Hi there,
I'm considering upgrading to Leopard primarily because of the Time Machine, but I'm not certain I would be able to use it as I'm envisioning it.
I have a Buffalo LinkStation NAS drive, is it possible to configure Time Machine to use it as a backup storage drive? I have a MacBook Pro, so it would be ideal to have it backed up to NAS since it wouldn't need to be connected.
Is that possible? If not, do you know of any other software that would that sort of backup with Buffalo NAS (automated backup, set it and forget it kind of thing).
    Thanks,
    Alex

Time Machine doesn't currently support backing up to a generic NAS. It supports backing up to Time Capsule (which is a NAS, but which has specifications that Apple knows and supports).
There are reports here of people who have gotten Time Machine working with various NAS products, and it works in some cases, while in other cases it has stopped working and caused crashes in Leopard. I'd say, since it isn't supported (and since the only way to get it to work is to set a system preferences like ...allowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes), that it's best to avoid it and go with Time Capsule, or with a locally attached drive (Firewire preferred, but USB2 would work).

  • Excessive log entries with buffalo linkstation

    Hi all,
I am getting excessive log entries on my MacBook Pro (OS 10.6.7) that appear to be related to my Buffalo LinkStation HD-CELU2 external drive. This drive is connected to my Airport Extreme (latest firmware) via USB and acts as my iTunes (10.2.2) library, which also serves as the music source for a Sonos digital music system. A sample of the log entries follow:
    4/18/11 8:15:22 PM    com.apple.launchd[1]    (jp.buffalo.NASPower) Throttling respawn: Will start in 60 seconds
    4/18/11 8:15:39 PM    com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[131]    (jp.buffalo.NASPower[6798]) posix_spawn("/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/NasNavigator2.app/Contents/MacOS/Na sNavigator2", ...): No such file or directory
    4/18/11 8:15:39 PM    com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[131]    (jp.buffalo.NASPower[6798]) Exited with exit code: 1
    4/18/11 8:15:39 PM    com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[131]    (jp.buffalo.NASPower) Throttling respawn: Will start in 60 seconds
It says that a file isn't found, and that could be because I uninstalled NASNavigator in an attempt to get rid of these extraneous log entries. Uninstalling the software seems to have only resulted in changing the messages (to "no such file"), not reducing or ending them.
This log entry is constant; it occurs even when the computer has no need to access the Buffalo hard drive. It makes it very hard to diagnose any other issues because it both clutters the log and causes it to only recall a couple of hours worth of log info.
    Thanks in advance!

Ho everyone, just registered as I have a Bold 9900 and am considering a Playbook with the new OS2.  Does anyone know whether I will be able to get it to talk to my Buffalo Linkstation.  think its a Pro Duo 2 and is about 2-3 years old.

  • 'Phantom'  iTunes tracks on Buffalo Linkstation Live shared drive

I have finally copied all my music over to a Buffalo Linkstation - I could not consolidate so dragged into iTunes from my PC drive and changed directory location. My PC can see the entire library direct and my iMac and PC can see the library on the Buffalo drive. But when searching direct to Linkstation via PC or iMac I am seeing multiple copies of tracks. Some of these multiples come up with '!' others show up 2 or 3 times and can be played. There are no duplicate copies on the LinkStation - the trash is empty. Any ideas please?

download the setup guide from here and follow the instructions.

  • Issue with AFP (Buffalo Linkstation?) mounts on 10.5.7

I have a Buffalo LinkStation Pro which I use to share folders with on my local network. I have it set up so that AFP is used and user permissions are in use. With 10.5.6 I didn't have any problems.
However, after the upgrade to 10.5.7 on one of the shares a single directory won't show up in Finder (all other directories on the specific share show up fine). Looking at the volume contents in terminal shows the directory. Likewise, Lightroom can access it with content that was imported earlier. Lightroom can't access the directory when trying to import new content.
Disconnecting from the NAS and reconnecting with SMB instead of AFP shows the folder fine.
The problem and solution works on both of my Macs.
Is this an issue with the 10.5.7 update? The firmware in the NAS hasn't been upgraded and no other changes have taken place.

I was looking for something like this. I have just bought a WD My Book World NAS drive. I connected it to my old router (G) and discovered it was too slow to wirelessly stream high bitrate music or movies. I then bought a Belkin N+ router which resolved this issue. However I have trouble with the mounts. When I wake my MacBook from sleep I can normally see the drive under Shares in Finder, but after some minutes it disappears. If I Go -> Network in Finder it turns up, but will not connect. The funny thing is I can be streaming music from the darn thing without interruption! The network shares on the desktop also turns on/off erratically. I can still access the folder contents from these even that the drive is not visible in Finder.
The NAS is set up for AFP on all shares which should be ok. I have tried both dynamic and fixed IP address on the NAS, but my Mac gets it dynamically. I'll try a fixed IP for this.
People are talking about automatic mount of network resources on start up. I came from Windblows and do not know all the fancy Unix commands and config files stuff. So how do you folks do this?
    Will be much appreciated, thanks!

  • Printing to Buffalo Linkstation

    Hi everyone,
Am thinking of buying a new iPad and using it as the main connected device in my house (laptop giving up the ghost and can't afford the space for another computer - iPad seems ideal solution). I have a Buffalo Linkstation NAS which has a built-in print server (you connect any printer to it via USB) to share the printer across the network. The Linkstation's core OS is a version of Linux I believe, but there is no access to the OS without hacking it.
My question is this: will an app like PrintCentral work on the iPad to connect to this printer as obviously you can't install WePrint on the NAS... will the printer still be picked up as a normal networked printer? The printer in question, by the way, is a Canon i865. This is a crucial thing for me and will decide if I get the iPad or not.
    Message was edited by: digitalinkblot

    Really? Nobody knows?
Have decided to get the iPad anyway, have placed order, so when it arrives I'll try it myself and post the results back here, so that should anyone be having the same issue there's the info somewhere out there...
