Connecting my GL1 to a Macbook

I'm thinking of buying a Macbook and returning to the Mac fold. Pretty sure I'll take the plunge if I can feel confident that I'll be able to connect it to my Canon GL1. Can anyone tell me which Firewire cable I'll need and if I'm likely to encounter major hassles trying to capture video from the GL1? I realize that a Macbook is not ideal for video production, but I would buy it mainly for other uses that don't require a hefter machine. Thanks.

All you'll need is a basic firewire cable.
Still, Canon cameras are known to be problematic in capturing when there is another firewire device (aka hard drive) on the same bus - and since you'll need the external drive for editing you can be SOL.
Get the MacBookPro if you need portability.

I have a Nokia 9300 communicator, with a GPRS conenction. I want to use it to connect to the internet on my macbook. Since I am in India, my service provider, not having sufficient knowledge of the mac, cannot help me with configuring it.

i want to connect using bluetooth. Also, although I can connect the phone to the macbook via bluetooth and can trabsfer files to & fro, I cannot syncronise my phone book.

Hi Brian, Thanks for that. I went to meet my service provider (Hutch) yesterday. What he told me is very close to yours. Here it is
First, when we have to make the new connection, there are 2 options - dial up or GPRS line. We tried GPRS line and set up as follows:
Username: Blank
Password:Blank
Number to dial 99**# or *99#
Here, the guy wants to know where we can enter the APN number - & I have no clue.
Second, using these settings, I got connected, the MB says it was authenticating user and my call also showed the "G" sign, but it went away after a second, giving me an error message - Could not negotiate connection with PPP server.
Just for curiousity sake, this guy tried his cell- a Nokia 6230. & it worked just fine. There was this problem, though, that every few seconds, the connectiion went off, giving the message that the modem had unexpectedly hung -up (& the poor guy's cell would switch off & on again on its own). But this is still distant for me.
I need your help in getting the modem script that you are talking about. I can only see 3 nokia modems- & they are all ir, none of them are for GPRS.
My problem is that there is no store or anything like that in India. I just bought the MB when in London recently, as it looked nice. Not very sure what to do now.

Is this just the most ridiculous oversight or is there some underlying reason why this doesn't connect and function properly? How amazing would it be if I could just click on a contact number and dial from my phone like I could in 2008 via my Lenovo and my Blackberry. This blows my mind that two devices that scream compatibility are far from it. From my bluetooth options it see my device, then sends a code, I confirm and then it briefly connects only to disconnect almost immediately. #fail #appleoversight #failfailfail
Fix it or I'm going back to PC ****

Time Machine has to erase the external disk in order to make backups. Before setting Time Machine up, copy the files of your external disk to the hard disk of the Mac in order not to lose them, and then, set up Time Machine. The first backup will start automatically.

I have also tried changing the contact emails(you can contact me by) in Facetime(diff email for IPAD and Macbook Pro). Facetime tried the call, I see the accept buttom appear and it goes away as the call never connects? Any ideas??

I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

You should have no problems downloading PDFs with Safari.
Unfortunately, ANY PDF that says it's damaged.... is. You'll have to trash them.

I have had the same issue since day 1 of the ios5 installation. I always hit "Cancel" and then the iPad eventually shows up again in iTunes. Then a few hours later, I get the same message again. Annoying, but I've not found a way around it.

Problem solved!! I finally managed to pair the SE HCB-100 car kit speakerphone with the 3GS. I surfed the SE web site and it mentioned resetting the speakerphone. Tried it on 'one color ID' but it didn't work so I did it on all 'color IDs' and left it on reset mode when it 'accidentally' was picked up by my 3GS while searching!!! Found 'headset' and then recognised it as HCB-100. One happy guy for the holidays!!!

Is there a way to prevent iTunes from starting up when connecting an iPad to my Macbook? We use Apple Configurator and would love to be able to set up the MacBook to open Apple Configurator when we plug in an iPad.

When you connect the device open iTunes and select it from the sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in the main window. Uncheck the option to automatically connect to iTunes. You will find it in the collection of options near the lower part of the window.
