Hello, my macbook was stolen! I have lots of info on my ipod video. Now, I bought a new Mac book Pro. How do I transfer all the info from my ipod without losing it?

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using a lot of the utilities your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac. If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are relatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

If these files you lost from your iPod Touch are no longer in an accessible iTunes library or backed up somewhere else, I'm afraid you are out of luck. There are expensive data recovery solutions out there, but I'm positive if they will work with an iPod's hard drive.
You should be able to redownload most iTunes purchases via iCloud. For music imported from outside of iTunes such as downloads from another music store, or tracks ripped from CDs, you'll need to either rerip them into iTunes or redownload them from their original source if possible.

Not unless you choose the Erase and Sync option. However, you won't be able to transfer content from the iPod to iTunes via iTunes or sync any new content to it until you restore the iPod or choose the erase and sync option. Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method I've seen posted. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. -

I just got a brand new laptop and when I connected my ipod and iphone 4 it prompts to syns a delete everything. How can I avoid that. I tried using the manual setting, but once I press apply it asks again to sync and delete all my music. Is there any other way to accomplish this?
That's exactly the way it is designed to work.
When you attempt to sync your iDevice with a new computer/library, iTunes will wipe the contents of the device and replace it with the contents from the library on the new computer.
To avoid losing content, first copy or move the media from your old computer to your new computer. Once this is done, the iDevice can be synced without worrying about iTunes removing the content as it can be synced back. -

I have tried to transfer music from my windows 7 media player to my ipod.This is the first time i have tried to use my ipod on my new computer .In the media player it doesnt give me the option to add to itunes library it just give me the option to send to my ipod and when i do this it says that the device has stopped responding or isnt working.Any ideas? coz i aint got the foggiest where i am going wrong.My ipod keeps telling me to update the software,but then will i lose the music thats already on my ipod?
You should import the music (that is listed in Windows Media Player) into your iTunes Library - on your computer - to add it to your existing iTunes Library. I take it you have moved (or copied) your music from the old computer to the new computer, haven't you?
Then Sync your iPod to that Library.
iPods will not respond to Windows Media Player, they're designed to connect to iTunes. -

I am hoping someone can help me. My laptop recently died, so I have bought a new one (with windows vista). I downloaded the new version of Itunes, but I am a little wary to plug my ipod into the USB in case itunes tries to automatically sync with my library, which will result in wiping off all my songs as I had it set to manually add songs on my old computer.
Do I need to reinstall the software from my original disc? or is it only as simple as plugging the ipod into the USB? I never updated the ipod updater or itunes on my old computer as it worked fine with the old software. Will this present a problem now with the new version of itunes I now have on my new laptop?? please help, I want to start using my ipod again

I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay. -

I have a 16gig ipod touch synced to my main itunes library, however, as most of the music in this library is imported as lossless files this is taking up a lot of room on the ipod. I therefore want to create a separate library containing smaller AAC files just for the ipod. I will need to select the tracks I want for the ipod touch and convert them from lossless to AAC first, then import these into the new library. What I need to know first is what will happen when I connect my ipod touch and its current content, including applications and photos to this new library? Will everything get very confused, if so what do I need to do? Will it try to do a back up of my ipod?

How do i move all the songs that were on my iPod to the new computer?
Are they all from iTunes or CD's? Some of the songs from iTunes may have still DRM on them, and thus, may not transfer.
It may also be a few other items--Windows 7 may have issues with your iTunes, for example--and someone else may have thoughts that I don't right now.

Connecting my ipod crashes my new computer
Ok, so I just bought a new computer. Windows XP, from Dell. I've had my 3rd gen iPod for 3 years, no glitches thus far with the old computer (though battery life was awful, as now expected with this gen iPod). I've installed iTunes plus iPod Updater on the new PC, but I just can't get my iPod to connect.
Whenever I put the iPod into the dock connector, my new computer just crashes (gives me the blue screen of death). Any ideas on what's going on? Windows tells me there's some sort of conflict device-wise. I've even tried using msconfig to not run other services and startup items, but this doesn't help.hi bratsche!

let's try enlisting some technical help with this. we'll capture a minidump of the crash and send it to someone who can interpret minidumps.
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
