Connecting my Macbook (Alu) to my surround sound system in the lounge?

I really enjoy listening to Spotify, and I have a 6 speak surround system in my lounge.
Is there a way to combine the two?
My surround only has Scart and 'coaxial'? inputs.
My TV has yellow red and white sockets.
Anything I can do?
Seems a shame to waste the surround sound - when life could be so good

You can get multi-channel audio out of the MacBook using the optical audio output that is accessed through the same port as the standard 3.5mm analog audio out (i.e. the headphone output). However, the only software that Apple provides that outputs multi-channel audio is the DVD Player.
Digital optical to coax converters are available so to access the optical output you'd need a 3.5mm to TOSLINK adapter (cheap about $2 USD), an optical cable, an optical to coax converter (relatively inexpensive), and a section of coax cable.
Remember, however, that you'll only get multi-channel output when using Apple's DVD Player application with DVDs that contain multi-channel audio.

  • How can I connect my apple TV to my surround sound system without running any extra cables?

I have my Apple TV connected to my TV via HDMI. The TV is connected to an auxiliary box that outputs sound to house speakers. I don't want to run any additional wires because of the distance to my auxiliary box and the fact all my wires now run through the wall. Also the auxiliary box lacks any extra HDMI ports.
On cable, the TV sound plays surround sound, but on the Apple TV sound plays from the TV itself.
Is there any way to alter settings on the TV (LG LB6100 Smart TV) to change the sound source?

if you have a router and set it up for wifi and have ethernet plugged in then point your iPhone to that router and it will connect to the ATV.

  • My Macbook Pro to my Surround Sound System, possible?

I have a Philips FR 963 (Google it, found nothing, but its newer model, the FR 965 is everywhere, I think they're pretty much the same save a few minor differences) anyway, I want to connect my Macbook Pro to it to play iTunes radio, is there a cable for this? is it possible? under say, twenty bucks? thanks!

Mine works through my airport express just have to turn on Airtunes in the Airport utility. Airfoil is a program that can accomplish this for apps other than iTunes too.

  • Can I Connect an iPod Nano to Logitech Z-680 surround sound system?

I want to know if I can connect my  iPod Nano 16GB to my Logitech Z-680 Surround Sound System.  I already connect my MacBook to the system by plugging into the three plugs in the back of the controller then those three plugs merge into one plug which I then plug into the headphone jack on the side of my MacBook.  Since the battery life of my MacBook is 2 hours, at best, Id like to use my iPod to play music.  I tried plugging in the plug that I use for connecting my MacBook into the headphone jack of my iPod but I could not get any sound.  The single plug seemed a bit small for the iPod.  There are, also, two other jacks on the Logitech Z-680 controller, which are located on the front of the controller.  One is for headphones and the other I am not sure.  It has a musical note symbol above it.  I have never used that jack before.  Any suggestions/guidance is greatly appreciated.

This video guide should explain it:

Some progess I see. To be honest, i would not waste your time with trying to connect using wireless.
You are likely to get poor connections and dropping out.
If its working using a cable, then there is no need to bother with giving me the network settings, bu see how it goes, because sometimes giving the TV a static IP address can give better results.
There is an example of a couple of powerline adapters on the diagram below. Just ignore the network switch unless you want to connect other devices which are near to the TV.

  • Can I connect imac to HDMI and also Surround sound also through HDMI using the thunderbolt sockets via an adaptor into a HDMI?

I want to be able to connect my imac to my TV and Surround Sound, from what I have read the best want of doing this is both via HDMI. Before I go out and buy another adaptor for a second thunderbolt to HDMI I was wondering if this would work? I basically I want to be able to stream videos from Imac to TV with sound coming through surround sound and also when I am on itunes have the music come through the surround sound. At the moment I have an adaptor (thunderbolt to HDMI) which goes into the TV and a optical cable from TV into the surround sound, then I also have a 3.5mm from the imac to the Surround sound, but I find this lacks in quailty. Would upgrading to a HDMI work and be better ? Should I also look into an optical cable though I dont see how to connect this to the imac?

OK. From what I can tell here, the Sony HT-SF2000 has 3 HDMI inputs & one HDMI output, so the simplest hookup would be to connect the iMac to one of the the Sony's HDMI inputs via the Thunderbolt-HDMI adaptor, & connect the Sony's HDMI output to the TV's HDMI input.
Use the Sony like an HDMI input selector for the TV (plugging in your other HDMI devices, if any, to it). Use the HDMI input on it from the iMac for both movie & iTunes sound output, & for TV output for video. (You can even use the TV as a second screen for the iMac.)
If for some reason you want a separate input for the iMac's sound output, you can use the optical input on the Sony for that, with a TOSLINK cable connection to the iMac. You will need either a Mini-TOSLINK adaptor or a TOSLINK to mini-TOSLINK cable to connect to the audio output of the iMac.

  • Wireless to Bose Surround Sound System

I want to connect my computer (PowerBook G4) with all my ITUNES! to my surround sound system that is a Bose connected to my Sony TV so that I can listen to my music on my Surround Sound. What is the wireless solution? What is the best and most cost effective solution? Do I need an internet connection? I have Comcast for my provider. All goes through the Bose. It's a 123 Bose. The best answer will experience great music!

    Susan;
I am doing that right now. You will need to get one
of the Airport Express units. Plug it into an outlet
close to the Bose system and plug an audio cable
between the Airport Express and the AUX input on the
Bose. Itunes will see the Airport Express and you
will be given the choice in Itunes to play on your
computer or the Airport. Works like a dream!
I am going to try it this afternoon. Thanks. I'll let you know.

  • Can I hook up my apple tv to my surround sound system and keep my regular tv hooked up to surround sound at the same time?

Can I hook up my apple tv to my surround sound system, but keep my regular tv hooked up to the surround sound as well?

If your audio amplifier has multiple hdmi imputs, you can connect the apple tv to one and the tv to another.
Works well for me, and now I can mirror itunes to get the new itunes radio on the music system, and have the tv system also work.

I connect my macbook pro to an Epson wireless projector. The macbook can see the projector wirelessly and the image on the macbook is displayed on the projector. However on system ref., the arrangement tab does not show and thus cannot have multiple view.
I am trying to project Pro Presenter on the Epson projector such that I have the detail screen on the macbook and only the screen I want people to see on the projector display. This has not been possible because the arrangement tab on the Display section of the System Preference is not showing. If i tried to search for the arangement, it comes back with the message that there is not other source detected, hence the arrangement tab is not showing.
I have also tried to connect the Epson directly to the Macbook but it still the same result, so its not because it is a wireless connection. Can someone advise me jhow to go around this problem. I have used windows before and it is very easy to extend ptojection on windows, but this system seems to be frustrating to me.

  • 5.1 Surround Sound System in iTunes

When I use the integrated Windows function to 'test' sound, all speakers of my 5.1 Surround-Sound System are used. But when I play music in iTunes, only the 3 front-speakers are used. Help!

iTunes music does not output surround sound, it's not supported. The best option to get sound from all of your speakers is to change the Sound Field/Sound Preset on your Surround Sound System so that 2 Channel audio will be played through all of your speakers.

  • Macbook aluminum, connecting audio to surround sound system. HELP!!

    Hi,
I'm tryna connect sound running from my macbook to my home cinema kit. the sound system has a fiber optic input. so im trying to connect the sound via digital means. can you tell me what cables i need. I saw the fiber optic cables and i no the headphone jack can support fiber cable, but can some one tell me what piece i need to connect to my cable so i can stick it in the headphone jack of the mac.
    Hope this make's sense.

The headphone jack on the MacBook is a combined analog and digital optical port. Since it's the 3.5mm size, if you want to connect it to your sound system via a digital optical audio cable, you'll also need what's known as a mini-SPDIF to SPDIF adapter or cable. It looks like there's a cable with an adapter available at the UK online Apple store. If you already have a cable, you may be able to find one of the adapters at a local electronics store. They're usually available at a Radio Shack in the U.S., for example.

  • Macbook Pro 5.1 surround Sound setup, is it possible?

    Hi all,
I'm new to the world of Mac and so far I'm extremely impressed. I'm a film maker and I'm very down with the editing process, one area where I'm not to savvy, is sound. Soundtrack Pro looks great and perfect for a 5.1 mix for some of my upcoming short films I'm putting together. I'm not to sure if the Macbook pro is designed for mixing 5.1 in but it's all I have to work with.
My question is, what equipment would I need exactly, I understand the headphone port works as an optical for Dolby Digital, but can I create a 5.1 mix in Soundtrack pro and work with it? I'm confused as there's so many different questions and answers flying around, none of it comes to a solid conclusion.
In effect, I have my Macbook Pro, what items would I need to get this show on the road.I'm not playing games or anything like that, I just want to create a 5.1 mix for a short film.
    Many Thanks
    Ash

    Hi
I have a 5.1 system for my MacBook (not Pro). It consists of a Firewave firewire interface connected to an Altec Lansing speaker system. The output from the Firewave needs 3 stereo cables which plug into the back of the speaker bass unit. This set up will allow full 5.1 mixing and although I haven't tried Soundtrack pro I expect it will work ok. See: http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/firewave
Be careful what you buy. The first system I bought was a home theatre system with an optical interface. Although this would play pre-mixed 5.1 DVD movies, it would NOT allow general 5.1 audio mixing from an application. Eventually I passed it on to a friend.

  • Can I connect my iPod to my stero surround sound?

Can someone tell me how to connect my iPod to my stero surround system if it's possible. Do I need to buy a cable, if so, what?

Can someone tell me how to connect my iPod to my stero surround system if it's possible.
The 5G iPod can be connected directly to any standard A/V component (e.g., video amplifier, TV, monitor, etc.) which employs RCA connectors (composite video and stereo audio). You can use the iPod AV Cable (Part # M9765G/A) which plugs into the iPod earphone jack on one end and to you RCA connectors on the other. Similar cables often come with camcorders or can be purchased from Radio Shack or other outlets. However, be advised that while the Apple cable RCA connectors are correctly color coded for US stereos (i.e., Y-video, R-Rt audio, W-Lt audio), the jack end on the iPod is re-wired differently when used with non-Apple cables. In this case use R-video, Y-rt audio, and W-Lt audio. In addition, if you have the iPod Universal Dock, you can use either the above named iPod AV Cable (or similar cable) or an S-Video cable in conjunction with the audio lines from the AV cable. The advantage here is the ability to leave the base connected to your entertainment system and simply plug in the iPod when you wish to use it with your system. And, if you have a USB Power Adapter, you can even charge the iPod while using it with your system.

  • Surround sound system

I just got surround sound for my mac and was wondering if there was a way to let a stereo signal play on multiple speakers. For example, most of my music is stereo so itunes only outputs to my left and right speakers. Ideally, I would want to right signal to play on both the front and back right speakers and the left signal to play on both the front and back left speakers.
Also, for confirmation, I bought the audigy 2 nx and it works fine out of the box. You can moddify the speakers to channel connections using audio midi. It seems like there should be a way to get this program to solve my problem but I cant figure it out. Thanks for any help.

by a "real stereo i mean a speaker system that is hooked up to a reciever that is capible of decoding dolby digital, and then a real stereo has speakers require power than what you can get straight out of the computer headphone jack. and as for how to set itunes to surround sound, you can't it simply sends out the file which happens to be in stereo (left and right) in order to get surround sound from a stereo signal you need a reciever that imulate surround sound from a stereo signal

  • I can't play iTunes Movies in 5.1 surround on my surround sound system

I like to download iTunes movies to my MacMini from iTunes store. Recently I gave up doing so because I can't play iTunes movies in 5.1 surround on my surround system. My MacMini is connected to my Marantz 6007 SR via HDMI cable. However I can get DTS or 5.1 surround sound from my system with other players such as VLC player.
How can I fix this problem as I really want to buy or rent movies from iTunes store?

    Hi komansava,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your Mac Mini is able to output 5.1 audio to your surround sound receiver, but iTunes purchases do not play in surround sound.
When playing iTunes purchases, first see if iTunes is set to output the movie you're playing in surround sound:
Set up iTunes to play content in surround sound
Movies you purchased or rented from the iTunes Store may have stereo audio and digital surround sound tracks. ...
In iTunes, click the Speech Bubble icon to view your audio choices, such as English (Surround). If the surround sound choice is dimmed or the icon doesn't appear, make sure you are using the appropriate hardware and that the content is encoded with digital surround sound.
You can find this information here:
Set up iTunes and your DVD Player for digital surround sound - Apple Support
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy
