Connecting my new ipod mini

Hi everyone,
I bought a new ipod mini on saturday and have been struggling to connect it to my pc. WHen I connect my ipod mini this is what happens: 1. The apple logo appears on my ipod, 2. A sad ipod face appears on my ipod, 3. The battery logo appears but is not actually charging. During this period the ipod logo doesn't appear in itunes or in my computer.
Any help would be much appreciated,
Ross

Ross, I assume you ran the CD that came with it that formats the iPod for Windows use? If you did and you're still having these problems, I'd suggest your return your iPod for a replacement. The sad face means there are problems with it that cannot be fixed by the user.
What does this icon on my iPod mean?

  • New ipod mini-will not connect to pc

Got new ipod mini today, have uploaded software & plugged it into USB-it is charging fine, but PC will not recognise it as new hardware and it is not appearing in the itunes menu thing.
We have a USB 2 card on the computer, and windows xp. The PC is about 3 yrs old. When I plug it into a USB 1 port the computer recognises it but says it needs a higher powered port-when i put it in the USB 2 ports nothing happens other than it charging itself. I have tried 3 different USB 2 ports. I have removed the software and re-installed it, checked the PC for windows updates and downloaded the updated ipod software from the apple website. When it is in the USB 1 port it shows up as hardware-but nothing when in the USB 2 port.
At the moment I am beginning to think the only solution is to chuck the ruddy thing in the bin....
Is it me, the computer or the ipod? any advice gratefully received.

    I just saw this:
"If 1 still not able to recongize your iPod by the computer then you have to put your iPod to DiskMode i.e. plug your iPod to the AC charges, do a RESET and press "Select"+"Play" keys, you will see the message "Disk Mode" in few sec. Then you need to connect your iPod with your computer, and hope that it will be recongized. If you are lucky to reach this stage then you simply need to restore your iPod updater, and your iPod should be back to normal. Please note that You may need to plug and unplug few times in order to let your iPod to be recongized."

  • Using New iPod Mini w/Existing iTunes on Computer

I already have one iPod, andhave iTunes loaded on my computer.
I have just acquired a second, new iPod Mini, and would like to start it up for the first time.
Can I simply plug it into my computer w/the existing iTunes loaded on it?

First, make sure that the iPod is fully charged.
iPods come pre-formatted for Mac, so you may need to format it for Windows.
Make sure that you have the latest iPod Updater software
You also need to install the Updater software by double-clicking on the file that downloads.
After you install the Updater to your PC, reboot your computer.
    After rebooting, run the Updater.
Go to: Start ==> Programs ==> iPod.
It should initialize then ask you to connect an iPod.
Connect the iPod when asked (not before) and you should have two options available: Update or Restore.
-- Choose the Update option and it will update your iPod's firmware to the latest version.

  • How do i connect my new mac mini to the thunderbolt display

how do i connect my new mac mini to the thunderbolt displa,  It arrives tomorrow?

It has a built-in Thunderbolt cable, see here: http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
So assuming your mini has a thunderbolt port (you said it's new so I assume it does), you'd just plug the display's thunderbolt cable into the mini's Thunderbolt port.

    1. Is there anything I need to do before I connect this new iPod to my iBook and do an update?
    No. Simply plug it in.
    2. Will my iTunes library freakout if it sees a new iPod connected?
No. It will ask if you want to link the iTunes Library to this new iPod. Just say Yes.
    3. Will I be able to name this iPod anything I want and not create a conflict when I plug my own iPod later?[/b
    Yes, no problem.
    4. Would I be better off creating a new user in my PB, then connect/update the new iPod?
Not if you are only gonna connect the iPod one or two times.

Do not connect the Devices... is not advisable nor how it is done.

The Sync Process is via iTunes...

  • Connecting an new ipod to a new macbook

My friend just bought a macbook a wants to connect his new ipod which he used on a windows computer until now. It appears on the desktop, he can open it but it wont show his music files. Tried to consolidate the files to the library but it doesnt happen.
    Any suggestions
    Al

Then I suggest that your first priority before you do anything else is to try and get the songs off the iPod and into iTunes. As the iPod is showing up on the desktop one of these methods may work. There's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward.
    Senuti Mac Only
    iPodRip Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
    PodView Mac Only
    iPodAccess Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    PodUtil Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac & Windows
If you can get the songs backed up, try connecting the iPod back to a Windows PC and restoring it. Restoring will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings and with a fresh installation you may have more success getting the iPod to connect to iTunes on the Mac: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings with iTunes 7

  • Connecting my new ipod to my old ipods itunes

i have just bought a new ipod nano, how can i connect it to my old ipods itunes making sure that all my songs wont be deleted? i recently tried to move my itunes from my PC to my laptop and all my songs disappeared!!! how can i make sure this doesnt happen again? i was not happy last time!! what did i do wrong?

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect your new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions to register and name it. It will connect to iTunes and prompt you to automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like. You can leave it at manual update or choose to sync music - selected playlists.
By the way, I presume that your profile is wrong and that you are not really using Windows Me, neither iTunes or the Nano will work with this operating system.

How are the two TVs connected to the Minis?
Tell us more about the "problem" TV.
Are the Minis in the same location with both TVs? I ask because maybe interference is causing the problem. If the Minis are in same location it cold be cause by interference generated by the TV

  • Brand New IPod Mini - Can't mount iPod from IPod Updater

This is a very reasonable strategy. It has been previously used for USB problems with battery charging.
See this link: The iPod Battery Unplugged..
A synopsis of it is as follows:
"For best results, try not to use computer ports to charge your iPod. USB is especially sensitive to how many devices are on it and what the resulting bus voltage is. It may even display the charging icon but not be adding much to the battery. USB versions prior to 2.0 will not charge your iPod (and probably be too slow for its other functions). Even USB 2.0 is limited to 700 milliamps and an iPod "likes" to see one full amp for charging, plus some to spin the HD while mounted. Some (early) iPod models will not charge from USB, period. Some PCs use 4-pin Firewire cables (all Macs are 6-pin) which carry no charging voltage, so they won't work at all for recharging and can allow your iPod to run down and cause serious problems while updating firmware, restoring, or loading songs. Both USB and Firewire require the iPod to be mounted by your computer as an external drive, which means the iPod's HD is spinning, using some of the juice that the battery might like to have. And if the computer sleeps or is turned off, the battery won't charge and in some cases will actually drain through the port circuits. Bottom line: if your ports are not doing a good job of charging your battery, use the wall adapter to charge for several cycles before questioning the battery's credentials. If you have a new iPod which only comes with USB, don't panic; it can work fine. But if you do experience problems, either take everything else off the USB bus (except mouse & keyboard) and/or get an AC adapter."

  • If i download i tunes 7 and i have a new ipod mini what do i do?Plaese help

if i download itunes 7 and i have a new ipod mini what do i do dp i download the latest software updatse that are compatible wiht my ipod mini. because my instaltion cd for the ipod mine is severly scratched up and i want to know what to do cause i cant fina anohter ipod mince instaltion CD/DISC. plaese help me!!!!

iTunes 7 will download the correct version of the firmware from Apple's web site as necessary; you don't need the software on the iPod's CD if you have a newer version of iTunes and the iPod updater for versions of iTunes prior to 7 installed. The functions provided by the iPod updater have been rolled into iTunes 7.

  • New ipod mini help loading software

I just received a new ipod mini under warranty from apple and have not been able to load the software onto it.It did not come with the original software disc so i tried using the version from my original ipod dating back to 2004.However it does not allow me to do so because it says that the current version of itunes is incompatible with the software i am trying to load onto the mini.Any suggestions?BTW i tried downloading the latest version of the ipod updater to no avail.I thought of uninstalling the ipod software from the previous ipod but am afraid to lose my music on itunes.

BTW i tried downloading the latest version of the ipod updater to no avail
So you were not able to download the iPod Updater?
    What happens?

I thought of uninstalling the ipod software from the previous ipod but am afraid to lose my music on itunes.
You can't "uninstall" the software from the iPod.
You can Restore the iPod to erase it but it will still have the iPod OS on it.
This won't affect your computer at all.

  • Will Mini accessories connect to new iPod?

I have an iPod mini. I purchased an accessory for my Jeep Wrangler from www.ipodmycar.com that plugs into the back of my radio into the CD changer, allowing me to plug my iPod directly into the car stereo system.
I am thinking about getting a larger iPod (the mini is full) and was wonder if it had the same docking port as the Mini or did Apple change that? I want to be able to use it in the Jeep.
I just need to know if the old adapters and chargers that came with the older iPods will still work with the new ones.

The chargers and the dock connectors will work with any iPod.
