Connecting my new ipod to my old ipods itunes

i have just bought a new ipod nano, how can i connect it to my old ipods itunes making sure that all my songs wont be deleted? i recently tried to move my itunes from my PC to my laptop and all my songs disappeared!!! how can i make sure this doesnt happen again? i was not happy last time!! what did i do wrong?

If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect your new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions to register and name it. It will connect to iTunes and prompt you to automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like. You can leave it at manual update or choose to sync music - selected playlists.
By the way, I presume that your profile is wrong and that you are not really using Windows Me, neither iTunes or the Nano will work with this operating system.

  • ITunes thinks my new iTouch is my old iPod

I received a new iTouch and when I first connected it to iTunes I accidentally didn't rename it. So now iTunes thinks my new iTouch is my old iPod. So when I started syncing it, it looks as though my new 64gb iTouch only has 32gb. How do I make iTunes recognize my iTouch as something new? I was scared to do restore because I thought it might restore the old iPod settings and not the new iTouch settings.

    Hello noonie23,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
How you sync one iPod should have no effect on any other iPod you may be syncing to the same iTunes library.
I think at this point it would be best to restore the iPod via iTunes, name it to whatever you like, then sync away. Not sure why only 32 gb is showing though.

  • I think iTunes thinks my new iPod is my old iPod and it's keeping me from syncing apps

I recently set up an iPod 5 to replace my iPod 4.  The new one was my wife's that she never used and let me have it.  So I restored it, tied it to my account, and I've been using it for a couple of weeks and a few days ago downloaded Tiny Death Star, which I've been enjoying.
However, ever since I downloaded it I have been unable to sync with my computer.  I repeatedly get the "This iPod is no longer authorized for this app, do you want to authorize", error in iTunes then Iclick yes, then it asks over again and I can't sync anything else.  So I deleted the game(sigh...) and everything worked fine again -- but when I try to "push" the app to my iPod from iTunes, it tells me that "tinydeathstar" is not compatible with my iPod -- which is absolutely incorrect.  It is incompatible with my iPod 4 (there's some compass thing it needs?) but I downloaded it on my iPod 5 and it runs like a champ.
Tiny Death Star is the only app I have that won't run on an iPod 4.  I think that's the issue with the syncing and the pushing -- iTunes thinks that my new iPod is the old iPod, and won't "allow" an app it thinks it is incompatible.  To remedy this I've tried 1) doing everything from this support article : (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389), 2) restoring my iPod to factory settings 3) removing both devices from my account and re-adding only the new one and finally 4) uninstalling itunes and manually removing a bunch of registry stuff.
    None of that worked.
So it isn't a huge issue for now.  I just won't be able to sync my iPod for however long I play this game.  But eventually more and more apps won't be compatible with an iPod 4 and I'll be in a pickle.  I might have to rebuild my computer (sigh) just to get itunes to work again.
So, other than rebuilding my computer, any ideas?

The app seems to be the tiny death star .  try reset the sync folder and try it on another account (create one if you dont have one). mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1627; http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4600 and for windows: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1692. tell me what happens.

i am just a little embarrased... i have a new dell and an old ipod.  i want to copy a cd from my new dell onto my old ipod but absolutely nothing comes up on the screen to do this....

You will first have to install the OS that shipped with the Mac. After that, you can upgrade it to Mavericks.

  • New computer:  Can I upload new songs from my new computer to my old ipod without deleting the playlists that already exist??

I recently had to purchase a new computer due to my old one shooting sparks and almost setting fire to my furniture when I used it.  I can use it rarely to try to get my itunes loaded to transfer over, but it usually doesn't cooperate.  I now have a bunch of new songs on my new itunes from purchases and also uploading old cd's.  I want to be able to add these songs to my playlists I already have mostly because I use my ipod to work out and also, there are a large amount of songs from my old computer on playlists currently. Is there anyway to make new playlists from my new computer onto my old ipod??

You should be backing up regularly so you can transfer your library to the new computer.
    Otherwise, you can transfer purchases

For non-purchased content you will need to find a 3rd party app

  • Is it possible for the software to be too new to restore from old iPod's backup?

So I tried to restore my new iPod from my old iPod's backup, but the old one was working on iOS 5.1 and the new one was an older software.
It said it could not restore the new one from the backup of the old one because the software was too old, but the only option is to update it to iOS 5.1.1.. will it still say it is not compatible now because the new one is too new and the old one is too old? :/

If you update your iPod to iOS 5.1.1, you'll be able to restore the iPod to a backup from any iPod with current or older software.
To put it simpler, you can update your new iPod to the latest iOS and restore your old iPod's data.

  • Anyone can point me out on some proper steps to connect my new iPhone5c to my old MacBook running an updated 10.6 OS?

    Hello,
Anyone can point me out on some proper steps to connect my new iPhone5c to my old MacBook running an updated 10.6 OS? Cannot make the iPhone to connect to he MacBook (Bluetooth) even the latter has already paired the new device and it seems ready to use.
The iPhone only want to forget the device (my MacBook) while it cannot connect to it.
I also created a WiFi network on my MacBook and joined the iPhone to it - cannot see it anywhere.
I have connected the iPhone to the Macbook using the provided USB cable but Finder does not show the iPhone, that only presented me with the option to trust or not the Computer the moment I plugged in the USB cable.
Am I missing something? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thx,
    Iul

Unless you're trying to Tether, your phone won't pair with your Mac...file transfer, by Bluetooth, is not supported.
Your phone won't appear in Finder, as Disk mode is not supported on any iPhone.

Contacts are not part of the backup.  Contacts, when using your phone as intended, are synched to your computer's Outlook, Address Book or with a cloud service.  If you haven't been using your phone as intended, then your contacts are gone.

I have icloud and downloaded new CDs on my 2nd computer.  How do I download the new music into my old computers iTunes using icloud.

For your computer first get iTunes to see it by:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    or
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    - The transfer iTunes purchases
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Or redownload them by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    newer copy
    - Connect the iPod to your compute and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not included synced media like apps and music.

  • New iPod won't connect to a computer installed w/ old iPod

I just purchased a new 2nd gen. iPod nano to replace my 2 year old iPod mini. My laptop recognizes my mini fine, but won't even detect my new nano. Why is this? I saw in the other topic that a BIOS update would do the trick, but I updated and the computer still won't recognize. What can I do?
    Thanks for your help
    Dani

This could be caused by Windows drive letter confusion on your computer. Have you tried assigning your Mini a different drive letter?
Log off of any other users on your computer (and disconnect any iPods that are currently connected to your computer, as well)
Then, put your iPod into Disk Mode, and follow these steps:
1 - Don't plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, connect your iPod to the computer.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
If that fails to get your new nano recognized by your computer, try the steps and suggestions in these links below:

    iTunes 7 doesn't recognize iPod

Also, this possibility: Fast user switching on a Windows computer is not supported for iPods

  • New user on an old ipod, creating a new itunes account without deleting old

I inherited my daughter's old ipod. I want to set up a new account and purchased new music but not delete her library. Whenever I turn on the computer it takes me directly to her account and asks if I want to delete the music on her account. We use AOL. help

When you connect are you getting a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually

  • HT1386 I accidentally synced my new iPad with an old iPod Touch Device, can I undo that? How?

I just got my iPad a half hour ago and by mistake instead of listing it as a new iPad I clicked sync with an old ipod touch. What do I do?!!?

If you want to start all over again - erase it - if that is what you are asking. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and Settings.
If you have a backup of another iPad, restore from that backup and sync again with iTunes. Connect the iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, right click on the iPad name on the left side under devices and select - Restore from backup. Select the iPad backup from the pop up window and then sync with iTunes after the iPad finishes restoring,

  • Can I set up a new iPhone using an old iPod backup?

The support articles cover backing up and then restoring from backup but only on like devices. I just got my first iPhone and I need to set it up with my old iPod data. iTunes didn't cue me when I plugged it in and just set up the phone as a new phone. I just want to make sure I don't render the phone useless or something if I restore it from iPod data. If I have to re-enter everything manually I might cry.

I'm going to answer my own question in case someone else needs it.
I synced my iPod. Then, I wiped my iPhone and restored it to factory settings. Since I've only had it 36 hours, there wasn't much to lose. When it came back up, iTunes asked me which backup to use (which it didn't the first time, I still don't know why). I selected the one for the iPod. Everything seems to work. It installed everything, apps, as well as app data, but left everything unique to the phone alone. My biggest fear was bricking the phone if I installed iPod data over it, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I still have a new, functional phone but now it has the treasure trove of data that's been in my critical device for the past four years.
